The Vessyl cup is the world's first smart cup that can analyze the nutritional content of whatever drink is poured into it using molecular spectroscopy. It works by sensors detecting the wavelengths of light absorbed and passed through the liquid, generating a unique spectral signature. The signature is sent via Bluetooth to a smartphone app, which uses its database of over 5,000 drink spectra to identify the drink and provide nutritional information to the user. For unknown drinks, the spectral data is sent to servers to be analyzed and added to the database. The app also tracks calories and nutrients consumed over time.
