Vehicular CrowdCell technology brings cellular connectivity to vehicles, allowing them to function as small cells. This improves coverage for passengers inside vehicles and provides ubiquitous high-quality connectivity outside. It also offers network operators benefits like on-demand capacity increases at events through parked vehicles acting as small cells. Simulations show this vehicular small cell concept can gain network capacity, and prototypes are being developed to evaluate real-world performance. The technology was presented at MWC 2016 by researchers from BMW and Vodafone.
