Vegetables constitute an integral component of the cropping pattern but the increasing pressure on food and cash crops has limited the area under vegetables to about 0.62 million ha, which is 3.1% of the total cropped area. Vegetables fit well in most farming systems due to shorter maturity period.
Vegetable crops are very important due to their higher yield potential, higher return and high nutritional value and suitability for small land holding farmers. Vegetables provide proteins, minerals and vitamins required for human nutrition. In Pakistan, the daily per capita intake is low, being about 100 grams compared to the recommended consumption of about 285 grams. In view of population increase, land degradation and water scarcity, there is a need to substantially increase vegetable production in the years to come and to attain self-sufficiency as well as to increase the exportable surplus. However, in the past, development efforts in agriculture sector were primarily focused on production and development of cereal crops; in spite of the fact the vegetables provide maximum output per unit area.

Garden Under Cover: Winter Vegetable Production in Low TunnelsCathy Rehmeyer
As presented at the 2016 Ohio Ecological Food and Farming Association (OEFFA) conference (audio available for download via OEFFA at http://bit.ly/1QhdFzA). Cathy Rehmeyer (www.motherofahubbard.com) shares her experience offering a winter CSA in the eastern Kentucky mountains, successfully growing through some of the coldest winters on record. You’ll learn about low tunnel construction and management, planting calendars and formulas, and the most cold-tolerant (and tasty!) vegetable varieties for winter harvest. If you’re a market gardener wishing to extend your growing season, or a home gardener wishing to live more sustainably, you’ll come away with the knowledge and resources you need to get started growing next winter.
I have tried to describe what is tunnel and what is tunnel farming and its types according to both via height and via structure.
And it also includes Substrates we use in preparation of seedlings and different structural features like buffer zone, trellising, coolers etc.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

5. What Are High Tunnels?
High tunnels, also known as hoop houses, are relatively
simple polyethylene-covered unheated structures that
typically do not use fans for ventilation. They can be
covered with one or two sheets of plastic; those covered
with two have an air layer in between, thus offering better
insulation, and consequently, more cold protection.
6. High Tunnel
Season extension techniques, such as high tunnels, can
allow producers to extend the time period over which cash
flows are generated from produce crops. High tunnel
production of leafy greens and herbs can also enable
producers to market products at higher prices, before the
start of a traditional local season. High tunnel leafy greens
and herbs are typically added by producers already selling
through direct market channels; especially farmers
markets, CSAs (community supported agriculture), local
restaurants, and groceries.
7. High Tunnel
High tunnels can provide the protective environment necessary
for growing greens throughout the winter months. Tunnels do
not have a permanent heating system, but instead are
passively solar-heated. Nighttime low temperatures within a
structure covered with two layers of plastic (with an insulating
layer of air in between) generally average about 7º F to 8º F
warmer than outside temperatures. Structures covered with
just a single layer of plastic often realize only a 3º F increase
in nighttime lows. Row covers used in conjunction with the
high tunnel will provide further cold and frost protection.
Because row covers also block sunlight, they should not be left
on for prolonged periods during the winter. Placing the row
covers over hoops will help to keep tender leaves from
freezing to the fabric. As an alternative, a portable heater can
be used when unexpected drops in temperature occur.
8. High Tunnel
However, due to rising energy costs, the use of heaters
should generally be limited to short durations. Often these
extra precautions against cold are not necessary as many
greens will recover from an overnight freeze and continue
to grow with warming temperatures the following day.
Opening the sidewalls is imperative for good air circulation
and temperature control, even in winter. During sunny
days, temperatures in the tunnels can be 30º F to 40º F
higher than outside temperatures, necessitating that the
tunnels be adequately vented. Lacking the automated
ventilation system of more elaborate greenhouses, high
tunnels are ventilated by manually rolling up the sidewalls
in the morning and closing them at night. Orienting the
houses perpendicular to the prevailing wind on the farm
will help facilitate air movement
9. 1.Basil – Ocimum basilicum
1. Basil. Basil tops the list
as the most popular
culinary herb. Basil is a very
tender plant and should be
kept indoors until there is
no danger of frost. Growing
basil starts in plug trays can
work great for basil. Expect
to be selling lots of these,
so keep the fresh plants
coming
11. 3.Aloe Vera
The aloe vera grows only
under the sun with well
drained dry or moist soil.
Although the plant tastes
like turd, it’s still edible.
The sap from aloe vera is
extremely useful to speed
up the healing and reducing
the risk of infections for :
