3. OBJECTIVES
Recognize the principles of natural moral law
Regard moral law as the innate source of conscience
Prove that a conscience formed based on the natural
moral law serves as a guide in sound decision-making
Examine the input of conscience in decision-making
Analyze decisions made every day based on the
judgment of your conscience
4. Text Message Writing
You will be presented with one news article
about a bad deed. Pretend that you will be
sending a text message to the perpetrator
featured in the news article. In the text
message, tell the person why you think he
did something wrong. Write your answer in
3-5 sentences on Padlet.
9. WHAT IS NATURAL MORAL LAW?
It is instantaneously
understood or
perceived by people
which directs them
to do what is good
and shuns what is
bad or evil.
The law within us where
the same basic moral
standards of people and
the common understanding
that it is wrong to commit
crimes and bad deeds
comes from.
12. CONSCIENCE
In Greek literature, conscience
is called SUNEIDESIS,
meaning “moral consciousness
or awareness.”
Suneidesis comes from the
root verb sunoida, which means
“to have knowledge with.”
13. WHAT IS CONSCIENCE?
It is the voice within us that
guides us to the right path.
Listening to or ignoring this
voice can greatly affect our
lives so we have to be self-
aware at all times and
sensitive to what it is telling
us before we act.
It makes us feel
happy when we
do something
good. It makes
us feel guilty
when we do
something evil.
14. Valuing & Organizing
God, with His wisdom and love for us,
created us in His image. He wants us to
reflect His image and goodness. He also
wants us to fulfill our purpose as humans, be
happy, and not be destroyed by sin.
15. So…
God planted conscience in
our soul which serves as our
moral compass that leads
us toward good and away
from evil.

CONSCIENCE
It pushes us to do something when the
need arises or warns us when we do
something wrong.
It tries to stop us when we are tempted
to be involved in doing something we
may eventually regret.
It warns us whenever we
forget or fail to do something
that we should do.
It may discourage or encourage
us to act on or answer the moral
challenges that we face daily.

22. Our conscience is NOT perfect.
It can be ill-informed – we may think that what
our conscience is telling us to do is right even
though it is actually morally wrong.
A conscience can also be calloused or hardened
– when we deliberately do something evil long,
and we become used to doing it that we do not
see it as evil anymore.
23. It fails to see sin where sin actually exists because
the conscience has fallen into moral dullness.
This is a result of habitual commission of sin.
It tends to follow the easy way
and to find excuses for mistakes.
24. In order for our conscience to be of good use to
us, we must make sure that it is WELL-FORMED.
Forming a conscience properly is a LIFELONG process
and there is no better time to start than NOW.
25. Did I thoroughly study the issue or situation before making a decision, checking the facts and
information on all of my options or choices?
Will my decision hurt myself and others?
What would God say about my decision?
How woud I feel if somebody made a decision that would affect me?
Did I consider the Golden Rule in making my decision?
How do I really feel about the decision that I am about to make?
How would my decision make me feel later on?
How would my parents or family members feel about my decision?
Will I be happy with the outcome of my decision?
Keeping our conscience well-informed and responsive.
