4. Us, humans, possess particular
characters and behaviors.
These are wide range of
actions and habits that can be
caused by different
experiences in our lives that
we have no control of.
However, there are acceptable
behaviors and unacceptable
ones.
5. Some deeds, being based on
different cultural contexts and
situations, may be judged
differently from the perspective of
people coming from other
cultures.
On the other hand, there are moral
deeds that are universally
accepted. The message of the
Scripture encourages us to choose
doing the highest forms of deeds
based on commendable objectives.
6. “Everyone is a moon,
and has a dark side
which he never shows to anybody.”
—Mark Twain
8. The mind is a powerful thing.
It affects how we perceive
what is right or wrong.
It is what we use to make decisions
and how we evaluate our actions.
Our actions are rooted
in how our mind works.
However, our heart aids the mind
to make the right decisions
and do the right thing.
“Be careful how you think;
your life is shaped by your thoughts.”
~ Proverbs 4:23
9. Philippians 4:8 states,
“In conclusion, my friends, fill your
minds with those things that are good
and that deserve praise:
things that are true, noble, right, pure,
lovely, and honorable.”
We must surround ourselves with good
things and positive thoughts
to avoid making decisions which
we might just regret later on.
Let us not allow negativity in our lives
and only share what is good
for us and for others.
10. Our thoughts affect our life significantly.
This is recognized by the writers of the Scripture.
As such, what we feel in our hearts and what we have in
our mind should be directed to spreading goodness.
This implies that we have to be aware of what is happening
not just in the world we are in, but also in the places
where our thoughts and emotions reside.
11. Being noble.
This means keeping with a set of
standards that are upright in nature,
an ideal that is highly reputable.
Remaining pure.
There ought to be no inherent
contradictions among the things that
we do and we must be consistent in
being good.
Advocating what is right.
We are tasked to choose what is
ethical even in difficult situations.
Appreciating loveliness.
Lovely thoughts attract other lovely
things. They do not allow temptation
and defeat to get a chance to
dominate them.
The verse also speaks of the following ideas.
12. Thoughts are not enough when they remain as thoughts.
They should be lived out, therefore we must think only
of good things for ourselves and for others.
Our mindset must translate into
deeds that bring glory to God.
When our mind and heart are focused
on doing the right thing, we will not
be easily swayed by elements that
stop us from doing the right things.
13. St. Thomas Aquinas believes that our human acts
go through stages that can happen in a blink of an
eye or drag on for a long period of time.
Stages of Human Act
Eleonor Stump,
an expert in medieval philosophy,
condensed St. Aquinas’s
12 stages of human act
into 5 stages.
14. Stage 5
The intellect commands to do the
best means. The will exercises
control over the body or mind in order
for it to work as the intellect
commands.
Stage 4
The intellect determines the best
means for the given circumstances.
The will selects the means
determined by the intellect.
Stage 1
The intellect apprehends a situation
and determines that an end is good for
the given circumstances. The will
approves or rejects or changes this.
Stage 2
The intellect determines that the end
is achievable. The will intends to
achieve it through some means.

planet
Stage 3
The intellect determines various ways
of achieving the end. The will accepts
these means or asks for more means.

16. Value Focus
ACCOUNTABILITY
Relating it to human acts, all actions done
with full knowledge and free will have an end
result or consequence. Whether good or bad,
the person responsible for his action is
answerable. When a person consistently takes
responsibility for the results of his actions, he
develops the virtue of accountability. He
becomes then a person who is reliable and can
be trusted by his family, friends, and the
members of the community.
