Valley Forge Research Paper
The year is 1778, the place is Valley Forge in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. George Washington and
many other revolutionary soldiers are here. I am one of them. Valley Forge is a Winter Camp that we
have built to keep an eye on the British army. When I arrived here in 1777, I was not exactly a
perfectly healthy man, and I am far from healthy now. Life here is torture. Everyday I see my
friends and fellow soldiers die. I have been here eight whole months with only one more to go. I
cannot wait to leave this godforsaken place. But George Washington and an abundance of other
soldiers would like me to stay to fight for this soon–to–be country. However, I can not stay here, for
it is unbearable. There is not enough food to go around, illness and ... Show more content on

The men here hardly bath, and with 12 men in one small hut, it can get terribly nauseating. It reaks
in all the huts in the camp. I, myself, have not bathed in about one month. Not to mention, our huts
have terrible ventilation, that causes our huts to fill with smoke, making it hard to breath. It is not
good when your own surgeons cannot see because of the smoke. We cannot open the door, for the
weather outside is merciless and freezing. The terribly cold weather makes it especially hard, since
about 20% of us have no shoes. Among us soldiers is also men who will assault you. It has
happened to me on more than one occasion. Luckily General George Washington can break up
fights easily. The water here is not good and probably causes many of the diseases that have taken

Maggie Monologue
Sitting at his desk with the lamp turned down low, Ben watched the shadows flicker softly over
Maggie's body lying in the bed across the room, the light casting her hair almost the perfect shade of

Opening the top drawer, Ben pulled out a piece of yellowing paper and a pencil. Laying them on his

How Did John D. Rockefeller Reshaped The Oil Industry?
When Edwin Drake discovered oil in 1859 in Titusville, Pennsylvania, Rockefeller saw the future.
In the mid–19th century, the chief demand was for kerosene. (ushistory.org.) Shortly after the
discovery of petroleum in Titusville, Pennsylvania, the 24–year–old Rockefeller entered the
fledgling oil business in 1863 by investing in a Cleveland refinery. (Klein, Christopher.)Within a
few years, Rockefeller held the majority stake in this refinery, which had grown to be the largest and
most profitable in Ohio. In 1870 business was so good that Rockefeller, along with several partners,
decided to incorporate a new firm under the name Standard Oil. ("John D. Rockefeller Forms the
Standard Oil Trust: 1882.")A young englishman named Clark did the fieldwork while Rockefeller
controlled office management, bookkeeping, and relationships with bankers. ("Rockefeller, John

He then, briefly, studied bookkeeping at a commercial college after which he found his first job at
the age of sixteen as a produce clerk. (History.com Staff.) From the start Rockefeller showed a
genius for organization and method and was a fervent abolitionist. ("Rockefeller, John D..") John
Davison Rockefeller, the son of a traveling salesman, was born on July 8, 1839, in Richford, New
York. (ushistory.org.) Industrious even as a boy, Rockefeller had the vision and the drive to become
the richest person in America. (Klein, Christopher.) The tycoon's father, William Avery Rockefeller,
was a con man. He posed as a deaf–mute peddler and hawked miracle drugs and herbal remedies.
John's mother instilled a devout Baptist faith in the boy, a belief system he took to his grave.

Alexander Hamilton
Alexander Hamilton
When producing something as important as the document outlining an entire nation's culture, it is
helpful to have inventive and innovative thinkers; however, it is necessary to have leaders with
experience and knowledge. The United States needed a strong leader who stood for his beliefs and
could execute them to their full potential. When Alexander Hamilton entered Independence Hall on
May 14, 1787, that was exactly what he was willing to do for his country. He helped with the
ratification of the Constitution by writing 51 of the 85 installments of the Federalist Papers.
Hamilton continued to strive for the well–being of the U.S. as Secretary of Treasury after the
Philadelphia Convention. He advocated for a strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamilton knew that the government needed the ability to borrow money. (Bowen 67) He therefore
asked the Federal Government to pay back the bonds in full that they issued during the
Revolutionary war so that wealthy merchants would have the confidence to lend money in the
future. Although this was an important step in financing the government, Hamilton argued that the
government still needed a bank to manage its debts and interest payments. He is mostly known for
his decision to create this First National Bank. The bank would manage its debts and interest
payments by providing a currency and collection of taxes. The Necessary and Proper Clause of the
U.S. Constitution gave congress the permission to pass the bill in 1791, opening up the First
National Bank of the U.S. The contributions that Hamilton made during his term as Secretary of
Treasury made him a very triumphant and remembered leader of the Federalist Party.
Alexander Hamilton, leader of the Federalist Party, played a key role in building a solid foundation
for the United States. Hamilton favored a strong national government and believed that 1800–
democracy left the U.S. at risk of losing its liberty. (Brookhiser 127) In addition, Hamilton knew
that manufacturing and trade had to be the basis of national wealth and power. (Staloff 24) These are
the policies that drove his life and provided the

Art Of The Steal
"The Art of the Steal" brings up fundamental issues about giver aim, legitimate execution of offbeat
people groups' wills, and the meaning of access to an accumulation. Albert Barnes expressed in his
will that his specialty couldn't be sold, duplicated, advanced, or voyage and that the school he made
was to proceed. The film records the incremental subversion of Barnes' will and the possible
improvement of another, exceedingly open home for the accumulation in Philadelphia– – precisely
what Barnes scorned and tried to maintain a strategic distance from. The urban and social pioneers
who effectively tested the first aim of Barnes' will had two fundamental contentions for the change

The Gospel Of Matthew Is Considered A Gospel
The Gospel of Matthew is considered a Gospel based on the premise that it describes the life, death
and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. Translated into narrative form means 'good news' and the
preferred standard to communicate the mystery of Christ. A Gospel is the committing to write of a
narrative born of the faith–filled vision, theological perspective and pastoral concerns of the
evangelist (Mullins 2007, VI). The famous theologian Rudolf Bultmann saw the gospel as an
original Christian creation that centered on faith; cult and pastoral concerns arising from and
illustrating the Christian Kerygma (Mullins 2007, IV). Kerygma is a fancy Greek word that is the
very heart of the gospel, the core message of the Christian faith that ... Show more content on

Numerous studies show that the Gospels of Luke and Matthew contain much material from the Q–
source and none in Mark's Gospel. This is significant as the contents of these texts apparently passed
down verbally from one generation to another. The M–source on the other hand is a hypothetical
textual source likely written by Matthew and defined as special material that is neither Q source nor
Markan. The M–source distinguishes itself from both Q and Markan influence with inclusions such
as Jesus's Genealogy (Matthew 1:1–17) and the Infant Story (Matthew 1:18–23). The Gospel of
Mark or Markan material is plausibly the earliest of the Gospels and an influence to the Lukan and
Matthean writings. There are 661 verses in Mark, 606 of those verses appear in Matthew, however
Matthew is a simple, easy to read style as compared to that of Mark.

4:23 Teaching and Preaching: There is a difference in these two acts that Jesus practiced. The
teaching term is in reference to all things present, while preaching is things yet to come (Aquinas
1993, 142). By the word of divine power he cured the weaknesses of the body and by the medicine
of heavenly teaching, he healed the wounds of the soul (Simonetti 2001, 74). It should be noted that
at this stage of Jesus's ministry, he is directing everything to his own people and only later in his

Pope Francis's Trip To Washington
On Tuesday, September 22nd, at about 4:00 pm, Pope Francis arrived in Washington D.C. for his
very first visit to the United States. He landed in Joint Base Andrews and was greeted by the
families of President Barack Obama, and Vice President Joe Biden. The thousands of catholic
followers in America were ecstatic at his arrival, emphatically chanting and welcoming the fourth
Pope to visit the U.S.A.
For the next five days, the Pope had about twenty–five scheduled events in Washington D.C., New
York, and Philadelphia. One of the supposedly most memorable moments in the time that the Pope
was here was when he visited Our Lady Queen of Angels school in East Harlem, New York City.
The school was recently going to be closed down, and while trying to find a solution, the members
of the school thought of it as nothing but a miracle when the Pope was said to visit and talk to the
students. One thing he said, as a reference to Martin Luther King Jr.'s words, was,"It's beautiful to
have dreams and to be able to fight for them. Today we want to keep dreaming." Throughout his
visit to the school, he even got the chance to take a few selfies with some of the students. ... Show

others; it just depends on your point of

Oncology: The Painfully Great Science
"When someone has cancer, the whole family and everyone who loves them does, too." – Terri
Clark
This statement is very true. When someone is diagnosed with cancer it starts a journey down a road
that no one wants to travel on. In recent years, there have been countless trials and tests to find a
cure for this terrible disease but none have been entirely successful. There are treatments on the
market that can help and slow down the process, but they have various side effects that aren't quite

Progressively, the survival rate from cancer has doubled, and more people are surviving now than
ever before. Cancer is still the largest cause of death than any other disease; consequently
researchers realize they still have a long way to go. Some of the leading oncology drugs on the
market today include; Rituxan, Avastin, Revlimid, and Gleevec. Figure one (pictured below) shows
the profits of these drugs in the year 2011. Cancer drugs represent the second biggest category of
pharmaceuticals sold in the U.S. worldwide. Sales of cancer drugs are estimated to grow
progressively, due to the population of cancer patients globally and by the opportunities given by the
cancer drugs and oncology research. These things open the door for possible long–term disease
management and control. This white paper will explore the recent discoveries in the oncology field
and how the treatment works in the body. Although the drugs are helping patients daily, there is still
room for improvement.

The Charismatic Age: First-Century Galilee Essay
The Charismatic Age: First–Century Galilee
The long–awaited death in 4 BCE of Herod, the ruthless architect of an oppressive Judean police
state, sparked a series of spontaneous revolts by the Jewish peasantry. Once these rebellions were
subdued, the Jews continued to chafe under a series of tyrannical Roman governors until the
massive revolt of 66–70. This period was marked by "widespread discontent and periodic
turbulence." Direct Roman rule, along with the burdensome tribute that accompanied it, was highly
offensive to the Jews, who considered themselves subjects only to God. Many, in fact, considered
their conditions tantamount to slavery (Horsley and Hanson 34–5).
This highly–charged atmosphere reached a fever pitch in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He said he was a prophet, and that at his command the river would be divided and allow them an
easy crossing. Through such words he deceived many. But Fadus hardly let them consummate such
foolishness. He sent out a cavalry unit against them, which killed many in a surprise attack, though
they also took many alive. Having captured Theudas himself, they cut off his head and carried it to
Jerusalem. (164)
Theudas' attempt to become the new Joshua by parting the waters of the Jordan was not the only
example of an ill–fated maneuver by a would–be prophet. Around 56 CE, a Jew who had come
originally, or returned recently, from Egypt, took a page from the battle of Jericho:
A certain man from Egypt arrived at Jerusalem, saying he was a prophet and advising the mass of
the common people to go with him to the Mount of Olives, which is just opposite the city...He said
that from there he wanted to show them that at his command the walls of Jerusalem would fall down
and they could then make an entry into the city. But when Felix learned of these things, he
commanded the soldiers to take up their weapons. Marching from Jerusalem with many horsemen
and foot–soldiers, he attacked the Egyptian and his followers, killed four hundred of them and took
two hundred alive. The Egyptian himself fled the battle and vanished without a trace. (168)

Historical Information About The Lovely Bones
Historical information about the setting:
The Lovely Bones takes place in a small town near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The plot begins
December 6, 1973 with the rape and murder of Susie Salmon. As Susie herself says, "It was still
back when people believed things like that didn't happen." (Sebold 1) During the 1970s most serial
killers and rape were unheard of. The fact that many people weren't aware led to the very criminals
living amongst them. Awareness to these crimes started to rise with the feminist movement and
technology. The inspiration to the setting in this novel also comes from where the Sebold herself
grew up. She grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and she called it Nowhere, USA. She lived in
some look–alike homes when she was an adult and made the same design for the setting in The
Lovely Bones.
Biographical information about the author:
Alice Sebold was born on September 6, 1968 in Madison, Wisconsin. She moved and grew up in the
suburbs of Philadelphia. She many times called it Nowhere, USA. She graduated from Great Valley
High School in Malvern, Pennsylvania. She also graduated from Syracuse University in 1984. Alice
was raped when she was freshman in college. She was walking through an off–campus park when
she was dragged in to a tunnel. She was severely sodomized, urinated on, and beat. She survived
and was told it was a miracle because many young ladies who dragged into that tunnel never made it
out alive. One day on October 5 1981

The Miracle of Feeding the 5000 Essay
The first thing that one needs to understand is the true meaning of the miracles Jesus performed,
even though the Devil does not want us to understand the meaning. He loves when we speculate and
question. In the Bible, miracles are often referred to as "signs." Miracles are acts that only God can
be responsible for, usually above and beyond natural laws. Baker's Dictionary of the Bible defines a
miracle as "Synthesizing the root connotations of these terms, we may define a miracle biblically as
an observable phenomenon effected by the direct operation of God's power, an arresting deviation
from the ordinary sequences of nature, a deviation calculated to elicit faith–begetting awe, a divine
inbreaking which authenticates a revelational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jesus also performed a miracle of feeding four–thousand (Matthew 15: 32, Mark 8: 1), which is
much like the miracle of Jesus feeding the five–thousand. There were many more astonishing acts
performed by the wondrous miracle worker, Jesus. The coin in the fish's mouth, walking on the
water, and raising of Lazarus from the dead, are just a minute amount, out of approximately thirty–
six. The miracle of Jesus feeding the five–thousand is just one of the many.
Feeding of the multitude is the only miracle besides the resurrection that is present in all four of the
Gospels; Matthew 14: 13– 21, Mark 6: 31– 44, Luke 9: 10– 17, and John 6: 1– 15. Jesus performed
this miracle of feeding the multitude of five–thousand, with only five barley loaves of bread and two
fish. The basic meaning of all four gospels is the same with a few slight differences. The amount of
five–thousand did not include the women or children. According to John A Broadus, "the number of
these (woman and children) was probably small in proportion to the men, for otherwise Mark, Luke,
and John would hardly have omitted to mention them."
Matthew and Mark have the most similar writings in regards to this miraculous act, besides a few
minor things. Matthew writes that Jesus feels pity for them and cures the sick but Mark on the other
hand does write that Jesus feels pity, but does not mention healing the sick. In Matthew, the people
heard the ship

The Green Mile Symbolism Essay
The film, The Green Mile, portrays several deep religious themes through symbolism to portray the
main character John Coffey. The ideas of Christianity are shown through several of these underlying
themes. The cross and God are the key religious symbols portrayed throughout this movie. Some of
the main themes I will talk about are capital punishment, racism and Christianity symbols. Also, I
will describe ways cinematography is used in the film; some examples are cross cutting, flashback,
three shot and close–up.

Before electrocution the primary methods of capital punishment were hanging, firing squad and gas
chambers (Dow, 2000). The era of The Green Mile takes place in the 1930s, but Louisiana did not
begin to use the electric chair until around 1940. Studies show that King made an error on the
timespan in his book (Arbeiter, 2015). Texas was the first state to use lethal injections on prisoners
on death row in 1977, and is now the only type of capital punishment used (Dow, 2000).
During this time, African Americans experienced prejudice towards them and were not given an
equal chance. This statistic will help the audience understand the segregation occurring in this
movie; during the early 1930's about 50% of the Southern towns were African American and the
people did not have the right to vote (Dieter, 1998). African Americans were not allowed to marry
whites at the time or even date in public. This movie opens with police officers screaming at John
Coffey and pointing guns at him. This is the first example of racism shown in the movie. It was
found that in 1983 Philadelphia, as well as other states, African Americans were more likely to get
the death penalty. Research also shows that 38% of African Americans were given the death penalty
over other ethnic groups that committed the same crimes (Dieter, 1998). Even after all this, John
Coffey is still the definition of compassion. He has a huge heart full of grace and sorrow. He wants

The excitement was waning; instead, the need to sleep was taking over. My moods would go from
one extreme to the next. One minute I was smiling at my now husband sleeping with our daughter in
his arms, and the next minute I was crying because.... Well, who knows why? I chalked most of my
sudden mood swings to hormones when, quite possibly, sleep deprivation can influence hormonal
changes which may contribute to postpartum depression. According to a Harvard Mental Health
Letter, "All parents of newborns get less sleep than normal, but people who develop postpartum
depression may be the most sleep–deprived of all. It is hard to determine whether symptoms of
postpartum depression might be due to lack of sleep, to depression, or to some mix of the two"
(Beyond the baby blues). Besides taking care of this tiny human and balancing everything outside of
motherhood, I started to keep a daily mood/sleep journal with encouragement from my doctor. I

linked to the nights of little to no sleep. It was then that I started to delay chores, like endless
laundry, and get to bed; thus, leading to less mood

My Interest On Public Health
My interest in public health was piqued in the midst of my adolescence. The idea germinated with
fearsome speed; after a series of fainting spells, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor and entered
surgery one week later. As I lay bandaged and recuperating, I began to ponder my great fortune: I
was alive, thanks to the skilled hands of the Chief of Neurosurgery at the Children's Hospital of
Philadelphia. Even as a young teenager, I could appreciate the scale of my privilege, and that many
others would suffer tumors worse than mine thanks to carcinogenic environmental factors and a lack
of access to quality healthcare. In a most unlikely way, my residence in this particular hospital
setting was the catalyst for falling in love with this environment.
Upon matriculating at Richard Stockton University, I began my studies in the natural sciences with
the aim of bettering the world through the combination of my experience as a patient and a growing
understanding of environmental health. Through my undergraduate coursework in public health,
epidemiology, and policy, I grew increasingly convinced I would thrive as a public health
professional. This prompted me to spearhead fundraising efforts, concentrating on annual JDRF
(Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Walks and the Starkey Hearing Foundation.
While I am fully confident in my ability to excel in graduate–level coursework, I am aware that my
undergraduate GPA falls short of my potential. I hope that the committee reviewing

Fever 1793 Analysis
Suffering is a part of life, just like joy and love is. We can never choose how life treats us, but we
can always choose how we react and get back up again. Through Fever 1793 we see up close and
personal how suffering can affect us, and how sometimes it can affect us in positive ways. How
suffering can help turn the page to the next chapter in our lives. How suffering doesn't always mean
losing, but also gaining.
Laurie Anderson clearly lays out the Yellow Fever through the eyes of 14 year old Mattie. We
experience suffering and disease along with the characters, how it affects us and the kind of person
we can become because of it. We see how a city raving with disease handles itself and how it is put

Nell gives Mattie a new purpose in the story, she helps Mattie find a new kind of strength in herself
and is a distraction to all she has lost. Nell helps Mattie just as much as Mattie helps Nell. Through
her suffering she is still able to mother a little girl and help and care for the sick."The sights and

enough to go and spend a day helping the sick and seeing heartbreaking things. "It had been a good

The Founding Fathers
Most Americans know who the founding fathers are. But, not many know what they have done for
us and how hard they have worked to be a part of the American Revolution. Subconsciously, each of
these men had a great impact on the revolution that started this country. Thomas Jefferson loved
education and was well known for being the true author of the Declaration of Independence and for
his wisdom. Benjamin Franklin, respectfully known as a diplomat, was also known as a great
inventor, printer, and writer. Thomas Paine was a spectacular journalist who is best known for his
anonymous pamphlet called "Common Sense." Through these great men, our country rose.
Thomas Jefferson played a huge role in our history. He was an extremely intelligent and noble man.
Being the author of the Declaration of Independence and Americas third president, he is best known
as "the man of the people" (Listabuzz). If it was not for Thomas Jefferson, this country would not be
independent from England. Jefferson continued his life in the estates his father left him after he
passed away and was a highly educated man who loved and cherished books. According to
Listabuzz, British troops attacked the Library of Congress in 1814 and burned all of the books.
Because Jefferson loved books so much, he offered to replace them with books from his own
personal library. So, one year later he did what he promised and gave the library 6,587

Thomas Paine 's Common Sense Essay
Thomas Paine began writing Common Sense in late 1775 under the working title of Plain Truth.
With Benjamin Rush, who helped him edit it, publish it, and suggested the final title, Paine
developed his ideas into a forty–eight page pamphlet. He published Common Sense anonymously
because of its treasonable content. Rush recommended the printer Robert Bell, promising Paine that,
where other printers might say no because of the content of the pamphlet, Bell would not hesitate
nor delay its printing. Paine and Bell had a falling out, but Bell still felt strongly about printing a
second edition. Bell added the phrase "Written by an Englishman" to his second edition without
Paine 's permission. Paine had stressed that it was "the Doctrine, not the man" that was important.
Paine wanted to remain anonymous for as long as possible and felt that even such a general phrase
as Bell 's addition would take attention away from the ideas in his pamphlet. This did not seem to
matter; printed by Bell, Common Sense sold almost 100,000 copies in 1776, and according to Paine,
120,000 copies were sold in the first three months. One biographer estimates that 500,000 copies
sold in the first year (in both America and Europe – predominantly France and Britain), and another
writes that Paine 's pamphlet went through twenty–five published editions in the first year alone.
Aside from the printed pamphlet itself, there were many handwritten summaries and whole copies
circulated. At least one newspaper,

Personal Narrative: The 11th Grade At Northside High School
As I stared out the passenger window of my mother's black BMW that was currently halted at a red
light, the reality of my forever–changed life hit me, hard. My father had, once again, charmed his
way to a better position in the army with his compelling words, but everything comes with a price.
This time it happened to be at the expense of my junior year. I wasn't exactly the cheerleader, but I
had established a routine that I didn't intend on changing. This adjustment was of no concern to my
mother, who had never been one to argue, considering most of the people she interacted with were
overseas. So, thanks to my parents, here I was on the first day of the 11th grade at Northside High

Being the new kid, I was getting a lot of attention, especially since I had befriended, Quinn Sawyer,
the 'it' girl. Quinn was the only light at the end of this endless tunnel of darkness. Just as I was
beginning to trick myself into thinking that everything was going right, I heard my name being
called over the intercom. "Ms. Anderson, a source has confirmed that you were responsible for the
theft of our mascot. Unless you can prove yourself innocent, you are expelled." All at once, the
words took away any confidence I had mustered to build in the last few days. Quinn heard, loud and
clear, and stood up for me before I could even begin to respond. I had always thought that popular
girls were nothing but killer looks and expensive clothing, but I was wrong. Throughout everything,
Quinn was there to support me and help me get my name cleared. Eventually, I found out that I had
been framed by the football jock, Liam, who was just jealous of all the attention I had been
receiving. Growing up in different places, I never knew what it was like to be close to someone or
even use the word "home", so I spent all of my life hiding in the shadows. I never had the time to

Art Of The 1980s
Art and sports are my topics for this essay. My year is 1980. It was a very important time in the art
and sports world. The biggest moment in sports history in 1980 was the "Miracle on Ice" This is
when the USA hockey team beat the gold medalist Soviet Union. The Soviet Union had won the
gold medal in six of seven previous winter olympics, and were the favorite to win once more in
Lake Placid. The final of the nerve racking game was 3 to 4. It was a very close game but the USA
hockey team managed to hold the Soviets off.
The game in the medal round, the United States and the Soviet Union finished the first period with a
score of 2–2. The Soviet Union took the lead 3–2 in the second period. The US team scored two
more goals to take their first lead during the third and final period. Winning the game 4–3 in a major

The Promise of Pentecost
The Promise of Pentecost
"I am going to send you what my Father promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed
with power from on high."
Luke 24:49(NIV)
Since the Old Testament, the Spirit of God was promised to come to the people of God. The prophet
Joel wrote: "And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will
prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions." (Joel 2:28 NIV) Nine
hundred years later, the Spirit of the living God was poured upon His church in an event named
Pentecost. The purpose of the following research is to show the Pentecost as a major point in the life
of the apostles, as well as the beginning of the church of Christ.

Practically every doctrine of Christian theology is included in this first sermon given at Pentecost."
(34) What is Minister Ockenga talking about? The fisherman betrayer was preaching with great
eloquence and authority? It seems like Peter had something different.
Arno Clemens says: "In his bold testimony Peter, the erstwhile denier of Christ, manifests the power
of the Holy Spirit. His inspired testimony shows what witness the Holy Spirit will bear through the
believer, when He is unhindered."(34) Clemens adds: "Peter preached the Word and through the
Word he preached the Person, the Work and the Glory of Christ."(34)
The first message from Peter was a blast. Veli–Matti Kärkkäinen, professor of theology at the
University of Helsinki, says: " Pentecost is a dramatic work of the Spirit: Three thousand repent,
and charismatic elements are visible."(31) Ockenga includes an interesting fact: "This sermon
resulted in the conversion of 3,000 people, who continued in the apostles ' doctrine and in prayer.
They were note temporary conversions."(35)
Another important issue that marked the life of the Apostles specially Peter 's, was that they were
now able to do miracles like what they saw Jesus do. Minister Ockenga says: "In his position as an
apostle, Peter had great power so that he performed miracles."(35) Acts 2:43 says: "Everyone was
filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostle. (NIV)" Minister

Kudzu Plant Essay
The kudzu vine comes from a specific subfamily of perennial vines that is mainly found in tropical
regions of Southeast Asia, particularly in Japan and China. 1 This particular species would be in the
same species as the legume family, with pods similar to a pea plant with tiny hairs surrounding the
pods. The vine is characterized by having large oval leaves in either two or three per stem. Because
of the nature of vine plants, the Kudzu plant has the unique ability to use its stems to climb vertical
structures in order to reach better nutrition sources or more sunlight. The environment that the
Kudzu plant prefers is mainly going to be lush forested areas with dry soil and access to ample
sunlight. The vine does not necessarily do well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many farmers would use the invasive vine to prevent soil erosion on their land. They would till their
land with the vine thinking that the vine would somehow strengthen their croplands. That mistake
allowed the vine to spread even more quickly by introducing it to the soil and allowing Kudzu to
take deep root into the South. When the vine was first introduced, there was a cult following for the
vine, much like what you would see in modern days for any sort of 'miracle plant'. Because so many
influential people were extremely big proponents of the vine, more and more people bought into the
craze and brought the vines to their homes and farms. Promises of shade, soil erosion prevention, as
well as using it for alternative feed for animals were just some of the biggest marketing drives for
Kudzu. Because the novelty of the plant was still in full swing, many people were so adamant about
growing the plant and influencing others to follow suite. Other than simply giving out free samples
of the plant for farmers to grow, there were also monetary incentives as well. In the early 30s and
40s, the Soil Erosion Conservation service provided approximately 84 million Kudzu vines as well
as offering $20 per hectare for farmers to plant it on their land. Due to this, the area of which the
invasive vine was thriving was increased tremendously from roughly 4,000 hectares to 1.2 million
hectares.

How Did Benjamin Franklin Impact Humanity
Benjamin Franklin was a world renowned inventor, scientist, author, american statesman, and man
of God (Franklin 1, Franklin 1). It is self evident that Benjamin Franklin made one of the most

Franklin was born January 17, 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts. His father's name was Josiah

Commentary On Founding Brothers By Joseph Ellis
The book "Founding Brothers" by Joseph Ellis is a nonfictional historical novel focusing on the
lives, achievements and the interesting situations of the founding fathers that came up and occurred,
while also the description of how America came to be American (revolution of America). Founding
members of the revolutionary generation secured their legacies through battle and later through
legislation, but many were unaware of what happened behind the scenes of the hardships and
dedication it took to do the things that needed to be done. The book reminds me that Americans
today take our freedom for granted, but our founding fathers had to fight to separate us from the
British and their tyrant's ways. Revolutionaries like Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine suggested
that colonial independence from England was not only plausible but was meant to be. No other
colony at that time in history had ever successfully won its independence to form a lasting republic.

Absolute Government In Thomas Paine's The Age Of Reason
The heightening of intellectual thought and questioning absolute of rule, throughout the
Enlightenment and Great Awakening leading into the Revolutionary Era, brought up a lot of
untouched topics within society. Philosophical thinkers, such as Thomas Paine, began questioning
conventional ideas and promoting the possibility of newfound freedom for the people of the
colonies. Thomas Paine then deliberately took to writing Common Sense to reflect upon the
colonists ideas of freedom and democracy result of breaking ties with Great Britain. His later book,
The Age of Reason, became an instant topic of controversy. He was met with angry accusations by
many Americans, but was able to stir the idea of conviction and religion's purpose into perspective

Thomas Paine was rather hesitant to comment on religion due to possible outrage he might face
from the public when speaking philosophically on religion. Being the clever politician he is, Paine
made the decision of waiting until his old age to speak on what he saw as the issue of the church. He
makes clear in the first chapter to the audience that he is aware of the sensitivity on the subject, "IT
has been my intention, for several years past, to publish my thoughts upon religion; I am well aware
of the difficulties that attend the subject, and from that consideration, had reserved it to a more
advanced period of life. I intended it to be the last offering I should make to my fellow–citizens of
all nations, and that at a time when the purity of the motive that induced me to it could not admit of
a question, even by those who might disapprove the work." Paine then begins his discussion on
religion by plainly stating his broad belief in God and following up with, "My own mind is my own
church." He is then quick to reign down the hammer specifically on the church, "All national
institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian, or Turkish, appear to me no other than human
inventions set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit." Thomas Paine
does not shy to state, in a rather vulgar manner, his exact thoughts on the evils of church. These
radical ideas proved not only to resonate with some in America, but many in Europe too. A snippet
from a letter written by an Englishman published to the Temple of Reason reads, "Yet Paine will
certainly arrive and that too in an United States vessel, bringing with him, as a present, the Third
Part of the Age of Reason. On this occasion we should not be surprised to hear the New–England
men... against [the Age of] Reason and Common Sense..."

History of the Constitution
The U.S. constitution is the foundation of our national government. On September 17, 1787 it was
signed by the delegates at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia ("The U.S. Constitution").
By signing this, the Constitution replaced the first governing document called the Articles of
Confederation. Before it could be passed, it had to be ratified by nine of the thirteen states. Soon
after the Constitution was finally ratified, in 1791 the government decided to add the Bill of Rights
to the Constitution (Bill of Rights of the United States of America (1791)). After the Constitution
was written, many of the great delegates or "framers" called it a miracle. America 's first national
government, the Articles of Confederation, was ratified in 1781 ("The U.S. Constitution"). While
under the Articles of Confederation, the states were acting as self–ruling or self–reliant countries.
The national government was composed of only one legislature, the Congress of Confederation.
There was no judicial or executive branch. The Articles of Confederation limited the powers of
congress. They did not have the authority to impose their requests to the states for money or troops.
Then after America won the Revolutionary war, which granted America 's freedom from Great
Britain, it became clear that America was in need of a stronger and more stable national government.
Then a lawyer from New York,

They believed that this leader–the Messiah (?anointed one?)–would rescue them from their Roman
oppressors and establish a new kingdom. As their king, he would rule the world with justice.
However, many Jews overlooked prophecies that also spoke of this king as a suffering servant who
would be rejected and killed. It is no wonder, then, that few recognized Jesus as the Messiah. ?How
could this humble carpenter?s son from Nazareth be their king,? they thought. But Jesus was the
King of all the earth, and it was Matthew (Levi) who took it upon himself (but not alone) to spread
the word. Matthew used about 1475 words, 137 of which are words used by him alone of all the
New Testament writers. Of these latter 76 are classical; 15 were introduced for the first time by
Matthew, or at least he was the first writer in whom they were discovered; 8 words were employed

writer. It is probable that, at the time of the Evangelist, all these words were in current use.
Matthew's Gospel contains many peculiar expressions that help to give decided colour to his style.
Thus, he employs thirty–four times the expression basileia ton ouranon; this is never found in Mark
and Luke, who, in parallel passages, replace it by basileia tou thou, which also occurs four times in
Matthew.

family through anything and everything. The director's Patricia Riggen (Miracles from Heaven) and
Jamal Hill (Brotherly love) of these films give the same purpose. That you should always stick with
your family and trust your instinct no matter what people say about what's happening. For an
example from Miracles from Heaven is when Anna was in hospital. Christy went to church and
people came up to Christy saying maybe this isn't a mistake, bad things happened to bad people.

The White Men
It was the year of 1801, when my grandfather, Shalem and grandmother, Boshika were kidnapped
from Africa. Coming to awful America was the scariest, heartbreaking time of their lives. As the
white men took them away from their home and culture, they brought to America both an education
and their faith in God and Jesus Christ. The White men checked the health of the Negroes and
grouped them according to their health and sex. Boshika was pregnant with my mom Ablimim.
Shalem and Boshika named my mother when she was first conceived. Boshika was put in the group
of female sex that had a baby that was conceived past 20 weeks. Shalem was put in a group of male
sex that was completely healthy. The white men were shouting commands and telling people where
to go. Shalem and Boshika were scared to death. Boshika watched in tears as her beloved husband
got chained at the ankles and wrist. Shalem entered a slave ship, turned around towards Boshika, he
brought two fingers to his heart and tapped twice. Boshika returned the same hand gesture. As they
both knew that it meant "I will love you forever and ever my beloved spouse, for I will never leave
your heart." Shalem and Boshika were put onto two different ships. While the long journey over the
Atlantic, Shalem and Boshika grew weak and sick. The conditions on the ship were mortifying, for
the Negroes were fed awful, non–nutritious food, there was little room to move, and people were
sitting in puke, urine, and feces. On the 4th month of

Jadelphia Rush Fever
The theory that fevers were produced by putrid air entering the body's system was not originally
formed by Rush. It was formed by the English physician Thomas Sydenham. Through his
observations, Sydenham theorized that diseases formed from vapors that tainted the atmosphere. He
writes that these vapors produced particles that were detrimental to the human body. As the vapors
are breathed in, the particles would enter the body and become mixed with the blood. This is
interaction was the basis for the cause of epidemics. Rush's adoption of Sydenham's theory of putrid
air is an example of how American was struggling to distance themselves from Europe while
attempting to gain more power through medical innovations. By having the city of Philadelphia ...

Mitchell came to this conclusion after opening up a cadaver of a woman who had succumbed to the
fever. He found that the lining of the abdominal wall was the same color yellow that had been seen
in the eyes and skin of the fever's victims. Mitchell claimed that purges were more necessary in
treating this disease than any other disease that existed. He wrote that the stomach had to be purged
because impure contents from unhealthy vapors caused the fever. He also wrote that the veins had to
be blood let in order to release sickly matter from the body. Mitchell wrote that plentiful bleeding
was key to curing the disease. He notes that bleedings could be frequent, but only small quantities
should be taken at each time. Mitchell made this claim because there were other evacuations that

Valley Forge Research Paper

  • 1. Valley Forge Research Paper The year is 1778, the place is Valley Forge in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. George Washington and many other revolutionary soldiers are here. I am one of them. Valley Forge is a Winter Camp that we have built to keep an eye on the British army. When I arrived here in 1777, I was not exactly a perfectly healthy man, and I am far from healthy now. Life here is torture. Everyday I see my friends and fellow soldiers die. I have been here eight whole months with only one more to go. I cannot wait to leave this godforsaken place. But George Washington and an abundance of other soldiers would like me to stay to fight for this soon–to–be country. However, I can not stay here, for it is unbearable. We cannot open the door, for the weather outside is merciless and freezing. The terribly cold weather makes it especially hard, since about 20% of us have no shoes. Among us soldiers is also men who will assault you. It has happened to me on more than one occasion. Luckily General George Washington can break up fights easily. In the mid–19th century, the chief demand was for kerosene. (ushistory.org.) Shortly after the discovery of petroleum in Titusville, Pennsylvania, the 24–year–old Rockefeller entered the fledgling oil business in 1863 by investing in a Cleveland refinery. (Klein, Christopher.)Within a few years, Rockefeller held the majority stake in this refinery, which had grown to be the largest and most profitable in Ohio. In 1870 business was so good that Rockefeller, along with several partners, decided to incorporate a new firm under the name Standard Oil. ("John D. Alexander Hamilton Alexander Hamilton When producing something as important as the document outlining an entire nation's culture, it is helpful to have inventive and innovative thinkers; however, it is necessary to have leaders with experience and knowledge. The United States needed a strong leader who stood for his beliefs and could execute them to their full potential. When Alexander Hamilton entered Independence Hall on May 14, 1787, that was exactly what he was willing to do for his country. He helped with the ratification of the Constitution by writing 51 of the 85 installments of the Federalist Papers. Hamilton knew that the government needed the ability to borrow money. (Bowen 67) He therefore asked the Federal Government to pay back the bonds in full that they issued during the Revolutionary war so that wealthy merchants would have the confidence to lend money in the future. Although this was an important step in financing the government, Hamilton argued that the government still needed a bank to manage its debts and interest payments. He is mostly known for his decision to create this First National Bank. The bank would manage its debts and interest payments by providing a currency and collection of taxes. The Necessary and Proper Clause of the U.S. Constitution gave congress the permission to pass the bill in 1791, opening up the First National Bank of the U.S. The contributions that Hamilton made during his term as Secretary of Treasury made him a very triumphant and remembered leader of the Federalist Party. Alexander Hamilton, leader of the Federalist Party, played a key role in building a solid foundation for the United States. Hamilton favored a strong national government and believed that 1800– democracy left the U.S. at risk of losing its liberty. Translated into narrative form means 'good news' and the preferred standard to communicate the mystery of Christ. A Gospel is the committing to write of a narrative born of the faith–filled vision, theological perspective and pastoral concerns of the evangelist (Mullins 2007, VI). The famous theologian Rudolf Bultmann saw the gospel as an original Christian creation that centered on faith; cult and pastoral concerns arising from and illustrating the Christian Kerygma (Mullins 2007, IV). Numerous studies show that the Gospels of Luke and Matthew contain much material from the Q– source and none in Mark's Gospel. This is significant as the contents of these texts apparently passed down verbally from one generation to another. The M–source on the other hand is a hypothetical textual source likely written by Matthew and defined as special material that is neither Q source nor Markan. The M–source distinguishes itself from both Q and Markan influence with inclusions such as Jesus's Genealogy (Matthew 1:1–17) and the Infant Story (Matthew 1:18–23). The Gospel of Mark or Markan material is plausibly the earliest of the Gospels and an influence to the Lukan and Matthean writings. There are 661 verses in Mark, 606 of those verses appear in Matthew, however Matthew is a simple, easy to read style as compared to that of Mark. The teaching term is in reference to all things present, while preaching is things yet to come (Aquinas 1993, 142). By the word of divine power he cured the weaknesses of the body and by the medicine of heavenly teaching, he healed the wounds of the soul (Simonetti 2001, 74). He landed in Joint Base Andrews and was greeted by the families of President Barack Obama, and Vice President Joe Biden. The thousands of catholic followers in America were ecstatic at his arrival, emphatically chanting and welcoming the fourth Pope to visit the U.S.A. For the next five days, the Pope had about twenty–five scheduled events in Washington D.C., New York, and Philadelphia. One of the supposedly most memorable moments in the time that the Pope was here was when he visited Our Lady Queen of Angels school in East Harlem, New York City. The school was recently going to be closed down, and while trying to find a solution, the members of the school thought of it as nothing but a miracle when the Pope was said to visit and talk to the students. One thing he said, as a reference to Martin Luther King Jr.'s words, was,"It's beautiful to have dreams and to be able to fight for them. Today we want to keep dreaming." Some of the leading oncology drugs on the market today include; Rituxan, Avastin, Revlimid, and Gleevec. Figure one (pictured below) shows the profits of these drugs in the year 2011. Cancer drugs represent the second biggest category of pharmaceuticals sold in the U.S. worldwide. Sales of cancer drugs are estimated to grow progressively, due to the population of cancer patients globally and by the opportunities given by the cancer drugs and oncology research. These things open the door for possible long–term disease management and control. This white paper will explore the recent discoveries in the oncology field and how the treatment works in the body. Although the drugs are helping patients daily, there is still room for improvement. Profits in 2011

The Charismatic Age: First-Century Galilee Essay The Charismatic Age: First–Century Galilee The long–awaited death in 4 BCE of Herod, the ruthless architect of an oppressive Judean police state, sparked a series of spontaneous revolts by the Jewish peasantry. Once these rebellions were subdued, the Jews continued to chafe under a series of tyrannical Roman governors until the massive revolt of 66–70. This period was marked by "widespread discontent and periodic turbulence." Direct Roman rule, along with the burdensome tribute that accompanied it, was highly offensive to the Jews, who considered themselves subjects only to God. Many, in fact, considered their conditions tantamount to slavery (Horsley and Hanson 34–5). This highly–charged atmosphere reached a fever pitch in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He said he was a prophet, and that at his command the river would be divided and allow them an easy crossing. Through such words he deceived many. But Fadus hardly let them consummate such foolishness. He sent out a cavalry unit against them, which killed many in a surprise attack, though they also took many alive. Having captured Theudas himself, they cut off his head and carried it to Jerusalem. (164) Theudas' attempt to become the new Joshua by parting the waters of the Jordan was not the only example of an ill–fated maneuver by a would–be prophet. Around 56 CE, a Jew who had come originally, or returned recently, from Egypt, took a page from the battle of Jericho: A certain man from Egypt arrived at Jerusalem, saying he was a prophet and advising the mass of the common people to go with him to the Mount of Olives, which is just opposite the city...He said that from there he wanted to show them that at his command the walls of Jerusalem would fall down and they could then make an entry into the city. But when Felix learned of these things, he commanded the soldiers to take up their weapons. Marching from Jerusalem with many horsemen and foot–soldiers, he attacked the Egyptian and his followers, killed four hundred of them and took two hundred alive. • 38. Historical Information About The Lovely Bones Historical information about the setting: The Lovely Bones takes place in a small town near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The plot begins December 6, 1973 with the rape and murder of Susie Salmon. As Susie herself says, "It was still back when people believed things like that didn't happen." (Sebold 1) During the 1970s most serial killers and rape were unheard of. The fact that many people weren't aware led to the very criminals living amongst them. Awareness to these crimes started to rise with the feminist movement and technology. The inspiration to the setting in this novel also comes from where the Sebold herself grew up. She grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and she called it Nowhere, USA. She lived in some look–alike homes when she was an adult and made the same design for the setting in The Lovely Bones. Biographical information about the author: Alice Sebold was born on September 6, 1968 in Madison, Wisconsin. She moved and grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. She many times called it Nowhere, USA. She graduated from Great Valley High School in Malvern, Pennsylvania. She also graduated from Syracuse University in 1984. Alice was raped when she was freshman in college. She was walking through an off–campus park when she was dragged in to a tunnel. She was severely sodomized, urinated on, and beat. • 42. The Miracle of Feeding the 5000 Essay The first thing that one needs to understand is the true meaning of the miracles Jesus performed, even though the Devil does not want us to understand the meaning. He loves when we speculate and question. In the Bible, miracles are often referred to as "signs." Miracles are acts that only God can be responsible for, usually above and beyond natural laws. Baker's Dictionary of the Bible defines a miracle as "Synthesizing the root connotations of these terms, we may define a miracle biblically as an observable phenomenon effected by the direct operation of God's power, an arresting deviation from the ordinary sequences of nature, a deviation calculated to elicit faith–begetting awe, a divine inbreaking which authenticates a revelational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jesus also performed a miracle of feeding four–thousand (Matthew 15: 32, Mark 8: 1), which is much like the miracle of Jesus feeding the five–thousand. There were many more astonishing acts performed by the wondrous miracle worker, Jesus. The coin in the fish's mouth, walking on the water, and raising of Lazarus from the dead, are just a minute amount, out of approximately thirty– six. The miracle of Jesus feeding the five–thousand is just one of the many. Feeding of the multitude is the only miracle besides the resurrection that is present in all four of the Gospels; Matthew 14: 13– 21, Mark 6: 31– 44, Luke 9: 10– 17, and John 6: 1– 15. Jesus performed this miracle of feeding the multitude of five–thousand, with only five barley loaves of bread and two fish. The basic meaning of all four gospels is the same with a few slight differences. The amount of five–thousand did not include the women or children. According to John A Broadus, "the number of these (woman and children) was probably small in proportion to the men, for otherwise Mark, Luke, and John would hardly have omitted to mention them." Matthew and Mark have the most similar writings in regards to this miraculous act, besides a few minor things. Matthew writes that Jesus feels pity for them and cures the sick but Mark on the other hand does write that Jesus feels pity, but does not mention healing the sick. The ideas of Christianity are shown through several of these underlying themes. The cross and God are the key religious symbols portrayed throughout this movie. Some of the main themes I will talk about are capital punishment, racism and Christianity symbols. Also, I will describe ways cinematography is used in the film; some examples are cross cutting, flashback, three shot and close–up. Before electrocution the primary methods of capital punishment were hanging, firing squad and gas chambers (Dow, 2000). The era of The Green Mile takes place in the 1930s, but Louisiana did not begin to use the electric chair until around 1940. Studies show that King made an error on the timespan in his book (Arbeiter, 2015). Texas was the first state to use lethal injections on prisoners on death row in 1977, and is now the only type of capital punishment used (Dow, 2000). During this time, African Americans experienced prejudice towards them and were not given an equal chance. This statistic will help the audience understand the segregation occurring in this movie; during the early 1930's about 50% of the Southern towns were African American and the people did not have the right to vote (Dieter, 1998). African Americans were not allowed to marry whites at the time or even date in public. This movie opens with police officers screaming at John Coffey and pointing guns at him. This is the first example of racism shown in the movie. It was found that in 1983 Philadelphia, as well as other states, African Americans were more likely to get the death penalty. Research also shows that 38% of African Americans were given the death penalty over other ethnic groups that committed the same crimes (Dieter, 1998). The idea germinated with fearsome speed; after a series of fainting spells, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor and entered surgery one week later. As I lay bandaged and recuperating, I began to ponder my great fortune: I was alive, thanks to the skilled hands of the Chief of Neurosurgery at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Even as a young teenager, I could appreciate the scale of my privilege, and that many others would suffer tumors worse than mine thanks to carcinogenic environmental factors and a lack of access to quality healthcare. In a most unlikely way, my residence in this particular hospital setting was the catalyst for falling in love with this environment. Upon matriculating at Richard Stockton University, I began my studies in the natural sciences with the aim of bettering the world through the combination of my experience as a patient and a growing understanding of environmental health. Through my undergraduate coursework in public health, epidemiology, and policy, I grew increasingly convinced I would thrive as a public health professional. This prompted me to spearhead fundraising efforts, concentrating on annual JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Walks and the Starkey Hearing Foundation. Paine showed his inner feelings in those words. Even though these men were fighting each day for something, they are brave. Each and every one of them. The weather outside is delightful! It just wasn't so delightful for us though. The weather was crazy. It was so crazy, we never had enough clothing or stocking to warm us. Again, (Rhoden 141) said, "Cold was one problem." But, not many know what they have done for us and how hard they have worked to be a part of the American Revolution. Subconsciously, each of these men had a great impact on the revolution that started this country. Thomas Jefferson loved education and was well known for being the true author of the Declaration of Independence and for his wisdom. Benjamin Franklin, respectfully known as a diplomat, was also known as a great inventor, printer, and writer. Thomas Paine was a spectacular journalist who is best known for his anonymous pamphlet called "Common Sense." Through these great men, our country rose. Thomas Jefferson played a huge role in our history. He was an extremely intelligent and noble man. Being the author of the Declaration of Independence and Americas third president, he is best known as "the man of the people" (Listabuzz). If it was not for Thomas Jefferson, this country would not be independent from England. Jefferson continued his life in the estates his father left him after he passed away and was a highly educated man who loved and cherished books. According to Listabuzz, British troops attacked the Library of Congress in 1814 and burned all of the books. Because Jefferson loved books so much, he offered to replace them with books from his own personal library. So, one year later he did what he promised and gave the library 6,587 ... With Benjamin Rush, who helped him edit it, publish it, and suggested the final title, Paine developed his ideas into a forty–eight page pamphlet. He published Common Sense anonymously because of its treasonable content. Rush recommended the printer Robert Bell, promising Paine that, where other printers might say no because of the content of the pamphlet, Bell would not hesitate nor delay its printing. Paine and Bell had a falling out, but Bell still felt strongly about printing a second edition. Bell added the phrase "Written by an Englishman" to his second edition without Paine 's permission. Paine had stressed that it was "the Doctrine, not the man" that was important. Paine wanted to remain anonymous for as long as possible and felt that even such a general phrase as Bell 's addition would take attention away from the ideas in his pamphlet. This did not seem to matter; printed by Bell, Common Sense sold almost 100,000 copies in 1776, and according to Paine, 120,000 copies were sold in the first three months. One biographer estimates that 500,000 copies sold in the first year (in both America and Europe – predominantly France and Britain), and another writes that Paine 's pamphlet went through twenty–five published editions in the first year alone. Aside from the printed pamphlet itself, there were many handwritten summaries and whole copies circulated. At least one newspaper, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kudzu Plant Essay The kudzu vine comes from a specific subfamily of perennial vines that is mainly found in tropical regions of Southeast Asia, particularly in Japan and China. 1 This particular species would be in the same species as the legume family, with pods similar to a pea plant with tiny hairs surrounding the pods. The vine is characterized by having large oval leaves in either two or three per stem. Because of the nature of vine plants, the Kudzu plant has the unique ability to use its stems to climb vertical structures in order to reach better nutrition sources or more sunlight. They would till their land with the vine thinking that the vine would somehow strengthen their croplands. That mistake allowed the vine to spread even more quickly by introducing it to the soil and allowing Kudzu to take deep root into the South. When the vine was first introduced, there was a cult following for the vine, much like what you would see in modern days for any sort of 'miracle plant'. Because so many influential people were extremely big proponents of the vine, more and more people bought into the craze and brought the vines to their homes and farms. Promises of shade, soil erosion prevention, as well as using it for alternative feed for animals were just some of the biggest marketing drives for Kudzu. Because the novelty of the plant was still in full swing, many people were so adamant about growing the plant and influencing others to follow suite. Other than simply giving out free samples of the plant for farmers to grow, there were also monetary incentives as well. In the early 30s and 40s, the Soil Erosion Conservation service provided approximately 84 million Kudzu vines as well as offering $20 per hectare for farmers to plant it on their land. Due to this, the area of which the invasive vine was thriving was increased tremendously from roughly 4,000 hectares to 1.2 million hectares. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 102. How Did Benjamin Franklin Impact Humanity Benjamin Franklin was a world renowned inventor, scientist, author, american statesman, and man of God (Franklin 1, Franklin 1). It is self evident that Benjamin Franklin made one of the most positive impacts on humanity, making many new discoveries throughout his lifetime. Benjamin Franklin was born January 17, 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts. His father's name was Josiah Franklin. He was born on milk street. He was the youngest of his siblings. He was teased as a spend–thrift after spending too much for a whistle; that was the the last time little Benjamin ever spent a penny unwisely. He was normally leader among his play–mates for his immense wit among his peers. Once he built a fishing wharf of cobble stone which they got from a nearby construction site; when the workers got back ... Though Josiah was glad his son was home, he believed he was still too young to run a press by himself and advised him to remain with his steady job as a helper at a printing press. When he got his own printing press, he became a hard worker that worked profusely and was skilled in his trade. He decided he wanted a wife and married a woman by the name of Deborah Read for her good nature (FAQ 2). He made a calendar about a man named poor Richard, a wise man with a nagging wife who likes to study the stars through his telescope; everybody loved the wise little sayings that are scattered throughout the little calendar. Being a good willed man, Benjamin hated the sight of his wife hurting her back constantly replacing the wood in the fireplace and getting little to no heat. Hating waste, Franklin invented a stove that circulated heat Torres 3 efficiently and didn't burn as much wood. Benjamin Franklin began to have an interest in electricity which had recently been ... Erik Larson writes a stunning explanation of America's first look at horror, in The Devil in The White City. Crown Publishing Group made an extraordinary choice of acceptance toward this life changing 1890's nightmare in 2003. Seeing the 447–page book as utterly fascinating as we did. The story of one of the most unspoken events in our history, really makes the reader plunge right into the complications of one man's success and another man's taste for blood and power. Daniel Hudson Burnham had a rough and unsuccessful start in his career, never having a permeant hold on anything. Until Chicago. Commentary On Founding Brothers By Joseph Ellis The book "Founding Brothers" by Joseph Ellis is a nonfictional historical novel focusing on the lives, achievements and the interesting situations of the founding fathers that came up and occurred, while also the description of how America came to be American (revolution of America). Founding members of the revolutionary generation secured their legacies through battle and later through legislation, but many were unaware of what happened behind the scenes of the hardships and dedication it took to do the things that needed to be done. The book reminds me that Americans today take our freedom for granted, but our founding fathers had to fight to separate us from the British and their tyrant's ways. Revolutionaries like Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine suggested that colonial independence from England was not only plausible but was meant to be. Philosophical thinkers, such as Thomas Paine, began questioning conventional ideas and promoting the possibility of newfound freedom for the people of the colonies. Thomas Paine then deliberately took to writing Common Sense to reflect upon the colonists ideas of freedom and democracy result of breaking ties with Great Britain. Thomas Paine was rather hesitant to comment on religion due to possible outrage he might face from the public when speaking philosophically on religion. Being the clever politician he is, Paine made the decision of waiting until his old age to speak on what he saw as the issue of the church. He makes clear in the first chapter to the audience that he is aware of the sensitivity on the subject, "IT has been my intention, for several years past, to publish my thoughts upon religion; I am well aware of the difficulties that attend the subject, and from that consideration, had reserved it to a more advanced period of life. I intended it to be the last offering I should make to my fellow–citizens of all nations, and that at a time when the purity of the motive that induced me to it could not admit of a question, even by those who might disapprove the work." Paine then begins his discussion on religion by plainly stating his broad belief in God and following up with, "My own mind is my own church." He is then quick to reign down the hammer specifically on the church, "All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian, or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit." Thomas Paine does not shy to state, in a rather vulgar manner, his exact thoughts on the evils of church. These radical ideas proved not only to resonate with some in America, but many in Europe too. A snippet from a letter written by an Englishman published to the Temple of Reason reads, "Yet Paine will certainly arrive and that too in an United States vessel, bringing with him, as a present, the Third Part of the Age of Reason. Maddison Shaw Mr. Ron Ramage Honors English III 20 April 2015 History of the Constitution The U.S. constitution is the foundation of our national government. On September 17, 1787 it was signed by the delegates at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia ("The U.S. Constitution"). By signing this, the Constitution replaced the first governing document called the Articles of Confederation. Before it could be passed, it had to be ratified by nine of the thirteen states. Soon after the Constitution was finally ratified, in 1791 the government decided to add the Bill of Rights to the Constitution (Bill of Rights of the United States of America (1791)). After the Constitution was written, many of the great delegates or "framers" called it a miracle. America 's first national government, the Articles of Confederation, was ratified in 1781 ("The U.S. Constitution"). While under the Articles of Confederation, the states were acting as self–ruling or self–reliant countries. The national government was composed of only one legislature, the Congress of Confederation. There was no judicial or executive branch. The Articles of Confederation limited the powers of congress. They did not have the authority to impose their requests to the states for money or troops. Then after America won the Revolutionary war, which granted America 's freedom from Great Britain, it became clear that America was in need of a stronger and more stable national government. It is no wonder, then, that few recognized Jesus as the Messiah. ?How could this humble carpenter?s son from Nazareth be their king,? they thought. But Jesus was the King of all the earth, and it was Matthew (Levi) who took it upon himself (but not alone) to spread the word. Matthew used about 1475 words, 137 of which are words used by him alone of all the New Testament writers. Of these latter 76 are classical; 15 were introduced for the first time by Matthew, or at least he was the first writer in whom they were discovered; 8 words were employed for the first time by Matthew and Mark, and 15 others by Matthew and another New Testament writer. It is probable that, at the time of the Evangelist, all these words were in current use. Matthew's Gospel contains many peculiar expressions that help to give decided colour to his style. Thus, he employs thirty–four times the expression basileia ton ouranon; this is never found in Mark and Luke, who, in parallel passages, replace it by basileia tou thou, which also occurs four times in Matthew.
