प्रथमोध्यायः
{study on medicalscience}
 हिताहितं सुखं दुःखमायुस्तस्य हिताहितम ् ।
मानं च तच्च यत्रोक्तमायुवेदः स उच्यते ॥(चरि)
 आयुः is classified into 4 types
 हितायु (hitayu)
 अहितायु(ahitayu)
 सुखम ्(sukham)
 दुःखम ्(dukham)
Explanation of आयु
1.हितायु (hitaayu)-
 One who always speaks the truth,who follows
धमम,अथम,िाम,
 Who gives respect to the elders
 Who tries to help others are the लक्षण’s of a
person having hitayu
2.अहितायु(ahitayu)-
 Telling lie,who not follows धमम,अथम,िाम
 The opposite qualities of hitayu are the
लक्षण of अहितायु
सुखायु-(sukhayu)
 One who has good health of शरीर and मनस ्with
बल,वीयम,पराक्रम,ज्नान
 Who enjoys the इन्द्रियाथम’s are the lakshana of the
person having sukhayu
4.दुःखायु (Dukhayu)
 One who not maintaining the health
 One always in sadness that is called dukhayu
The derevation of the word
ayurveda?
 आयुः षवध्यते इतत आयुवेदः ।
 The veda that deals with ayu is calledd Ayurveda
 आयुः षवध्यते अन्द्स्मन ् ।
 The veda from which details of ayu is known as ayurvda
 आयुः वेदयतत ।
 The veda that teaches about ayu
 अनेन आयुः षवरदतत ।
 That from which man learns about his life
 आयुः षवध्यते षवचायमते अनेन ।
 That from which ayu can be studied,examined,srutinised is
known as ayurveda
 िायवाग्बुद्हदषविया ये मलाः समुपन्द्स्थताः।
चचकित्सामक्षणाध्यात्मशास्त्रॆस्तेिां षवशुद्दयः॥
(वाक्यपदीय)
 पदषवभागः-
िाय,वाि्,बुद्हद,षविया,ये,मलाः,समुपन्द्स्थताः,चचकित्सा,लक्षणा,
आध्यत्म,शास्त्रः,तेिां,षवशुद्दयः ॥
 In this world 3 great sciences are present
 They have the capacity to purify a person internally and
extrenally
 They are: 1)चचकित्सा शास्त्र (medical tratment)
2)लक्षण शास्त्र (grammer knowledge)
3)आध्यात्म शास्त्र (spiritual knowledge)
1.चचकित्सा शास्त्र:
 चचकित्सा means treatment,शास्त्र means
learningknowledge
 Knowledge of treatment
 When shareera becomes impure due to
disease,चचकित्सा शास्त्र able to purify that
2.लक्षण शास्त्र :
 It means when person not grammetically
correct ,then grammer is very help full
 Grammer is helpful to learn about how to
speak grammetically
3.आध्यात्म शास्त्र :
 Spiritual knowledge
 When the mind is not in proper status the spiritual
knowledge helps to keep a sound mind in the body
• like meditation,doing yoga,
•it helps to keep mind in properly
To get these 3purities आयुवेद helps to
purify the दोिा’s of शरीर and मनस ्, so
आयुवेद is appreciated as
“लोियोरुभयोहिमतम ्” it means which
gives हित in both the लोिा’s that is
before and after death
 3.सद्यः फलतत गांधवं,मासमेि
ं पुराणिम ् ।
वेदाः फलन्द्रत िालेिु,ज्योततवॆद्यो तनररतरम ् ॥
पदषवभाग :
• सद्यः,फलतत,गारधवमम ्,मासमेिम ्,पुराणिम ्,वेदः
फलन्द्रत,िालेिु,ज्योततवॆद्यो,तनररतरम ्॥
 Here is an explanation about 4 great sciences and their
specialities.
 सद्य फलतत गारधवं means the enjoymnt we get by
hearing music that is instantaneous.
 If you heared the music you feel like a happy and relax.
 मासमेि
ं पुराणिम ् means one can get the good fruit of
action,up to month
 In INDIAN traditi0n there are so many puranas
 example षवष्णु पुराण,गरुड पुराण,शशव पुराण etc.
 वेदाः फलन्द्रत िालेिु,ज्योततवॆद्यो तनररतरम ् ।
 Vedas one can get its result for a long time but the
Astrology and medical science are capable to give fruit
forever to the human being in the form of happiness.
 अरयातन शास्त्राणण षवनोदमात्रं प्रप्तेिु वा तेिु न
तॆष्च किन्द्रचत् ।
चोकित्स ज्यौततिमरत्रवादाः पदे पदे
प्रत्ययमाविन्द्रत ॥
 Here the author explains about the शास्त्रा’s which
are very useful and which are not
 There are many Sciences present on the earth
 Most of them are only for the sake of
entertainment
 They do not change the mentality and life style of
human beings
 Medicine(चचकित्स),Astrology(ज्यौतति),and
mantra(मरत्र) are the sciences which have capacity to
give permanent happiness to the person and also
encourages to attain मोक्ष.
एि
ं शास्त्रं वेद्यमद्यत्मि
ं वा सौख्यं चॆि
ं
यत्सुखं वा तपं वा ।
वरद्यश्चॆिो भूपततवाम यततवाम ह्येि
ं िमम
श्रेयसं वा यशो वा ॥
 The main science through which we can get सुख in
both tha लोि’s,are वैद्यशास्त्र and आध्यात्मशास्त्र
 A person to lead the life comfortably,should opt
either सुख and तप
 One should give respect to either a यतत or a भूपतत
because both are capable of showing the right path
of life.
 One should perform िमम which gives either श्रेयस्
or यशस्,by doing such karma one get सुख in many
जरमा’s
 यन्द्स्मन् ज्नाते सवमशमदं ज्नातं भवतत तनन्द्श्चतम्
तन्द्स्मन् पररश्रमःिायमः,किमरयचछास्त्रभाषितम ्
 When one has confidence about a perticular
science and its all type of benefits
 He should put effort to learn that sciences
 If unnecessarily efforts one put to study other
shastras,it is of no use.

  • 2. प्रथमोध्यायः {study on medicalscience}  हिताहितं सुखं दुःखमायुस्तस्य हिताहितम ् । मानं च तच्च यत्रोक्तमायुवेदः स उच्यते ॥(चरि)  आयुः is classified into 4 types  हितायु (hitayu)  अहितायु(ahitayu)  सुखम ्(sukham)  दुःखम ्(dukham)
  • 3. Explanation of आयु 1.हितायु (hitaayu)-  One who always speaks the truth,who follows धमम,अथम,िाम,  Who gives respect to the elders  Who tries to help others are the लक्षण’s of a person having hitayu
  • 4. 2.अहितायु(ahitayu)-  Telling lie,who not follows धमम,अथम,िाम  The opposite qualities of hitayu are the लक्षण of अहितायु
  • 5. सुखायु-(sukhayu)  One who has good health of शरीर and मनस ्with बल,वीयम,पराक्रम,ज्नान  Who enjoys the इन्द्रियाथम’s are the lakshana of the person having sukhayu
  • 6. 4.दुःखायु (Dukhayu)  One who not maintaining the health  One always in sadness that is called dukhayu
  • 7. The derevation of the word ayurveda?  आयुः षवध्यते इतत आयुवेदः ।  The veda that deals with ayu is calledd Ayurveda  आयुः षवध्यते अन्द्स्मन ् ।  The veda from which details of ayu is known as ayurvda  आयुः वेदयतत ।  The veda that teaches about ayu  अनेन आयुः षवरदतत ।  That from which man learns about his life  आयुः षवध्यते षवचायमते अनेन ।  That from which ayu can be studied,examined,srutinised is known as ayurveda
  • 8.  िायवाग्बुद्हदषविया ये मलाः समुपन्द्स्थताः। चचकित्सामक्षणाध्यात्मशास्त्रॆस्तेिां षवशुद्दयः॥ (वाक्यपदीय)  पदषवभागः- िाय,वाि्,बुद्हद,षविया,ये,मलाः,समुपन्द्स्थताः,चचकित्सा,लक्षणा, आध्यत्म,शास्त्रः,तेिां,षवशुद्दयः ॥
  • 9.  In this world 3 great sciences are present  They have the capacity to purify a person internally and extrenally  They are: 1)चचकित्सा शास्त्र (medical tratment) 2)लक्षण शास्त्र (grammer knowledge) 3)आध्यात्म शास्त्र (spiritual knowledge)
  • 10. 1.चचकित्सा शास्त्र:  चचकित्सा means treatment,शास्त्र means learningknowledge  Knowledge of treatment  When shareera becomes impure due to disease,चचकित्सा शास्त्र able to purify that
  • 11. 2.लक्षण शास्त्र :  It means when person not grammetically correct ,then grammer is very help full  Grammer is helpful to learn about how to speak grammetically
  • 12. 3.आध्यात्म शास्त्र :  Spiritual knowledge  When the mind is not in proper status the spiritual knowledge helps to keep a sound mind in the body • like meditation,doing yoga, •it helps to keep mind in properly
  • 13. To get these 3purities आयुवेद helps to purify the दोिा’s of शरीर and मनस ्, so आयुवेद is appreciated as “लोियोरुभयोहिमतम ्” it means which gives हित in both the लोिा’s that is before and after death
  • 14.  3.सद्यः फलतत गांधवं,मासमेि ं पुराणिम ् । वेदाः फलन्द्रत िालेिु,ज्योततवॆद्यो तनररतरम ् ॥ पदषवभाग : • सद्यः,फलतत,गारधवमम ्,मासमेिम ्,पुराणिम ्,वेदः फलन्द्रत,िालेिु,ज्योततवॆद्यो,तनररतरम ्॥
  • 15.  Here is an explanation about 4 great sciences and their specialities.  सद्य फलतत गारधवं means the enjoymnt we get by hearing music that is instantaneous.  If you heared the music you feel like a happy and relax.
  • 16.  मासमेि ं पुराणिम ् means one can get the good fruit of action,up to month  In INDIAN traditi0n there are so many puranas  example षवष्णु पुराण,गरुड पुराण,शशव पुराण etc.
  • 17.  वेदाः फलन्द्रत िालेिु,ज्योततवॆद्यो तनररतरम ् ।  Vedas one can get its result for a long time but the Astrology and medical science are capable to give fruit forever to the human being in the form of happiness.
  • 18.  अरयातन शास्त्राणण षवनोदमात्रं प्रप्तेिु वा तेिु न तॆष्च किन्द्रचत् । चोकित्स ज्यौततिमरत्रवादाः पदे पदे प्रत्ययमाविन्द्रत ॥  Here the author explains about the शास्त्रा’s which are very useful and which are not  There are many Sciences present on the earth  Most of them are only for the sake of entertainment  They do not change the mentality and life style of human beings
  • 19.  Medicine(चचकित्स),Astrology(ज्यौतति),and mantra(मरत्र) are the sciences which have capacity to give permanent happiness to the person and also encourages to attain मोक्ष.
  • 20. एि ं शास्त्रं वेद्यमद्यत्मि ं वा सौख्यं चॆि ं यत्सुखं वा तपं वा । वरद्यश्चॆिो भूपततवाम यततवाम ह्येि ं िमम श्रेयसं वा यशो वा ॥  The main science through which we can get सुख in both tha लोि’s,are वैद्यशास्त्र and आध्यात्मशास्त्र  A person to lead the life comfortably,should opt either सुख and तप  One should give respect to either a यतत or a भूपतत because both are capable of showing the right path of life.
  • 21.  One should perform िमम which gives either श्रेयस् or यशस्,by doing such karma one get सुख in many जरमा’s  यन्द्स्मन् ज्नाते सवमशमदं ज्नातं भवतत तनन्द्श्चतम् तन्द्स्मन् पररश्रमःिायमः,किमरयचछास्त्रभाषितम ्  When one has confidence about a perticular science and its all type of benefits  He should put effort to learn that sciences  If unnecessarily efforts one put to study other shastras,it is of no use.
