A new invention, uWIN, could revive interest in
energy recovery from low level waste heat.
uWIN is a patented [1]
low cost wind turbine, based on a
chimney effect and a vacuum device powered by the
wind [2]
.
Some background information
Very low temperature heat waste is
significant, yet
energy recovery is complex and inefficient.
Waste heat is everywhere
Large amounts of waste heat are generated by
industry, data centres, power plants and many
processes
that burn fossil fuels.
For every useful kWh of energy almost the same amount
is rejected to the environment.
Researchers around the world worked for decades seeking
ways to harness the very low temperature wasted energy
economically with limited success[3]
.

Waste heat categories
Waste heat recovery is categorized in dividing temperature ranges
into low, medium, and high quality of waste heat sources as follows:
High: 650ºC and higher
Medium: 230ºC to 650ºC
Low: 230ºC and lower
Very Low: 25ºC to about 75ºC
Graph below shows that Very Low Temperature waste heat
(25 to 75 degrees Celsius) is a significant contributor to global
warming in USA [5]
and throughout the world.

Introducing uWIN green
How uWIN wind turbine recovers low level
waste heat ?
 The waste heat is fed to uWIN air intake, as
shown in the figure below. It is that simple.
 Waste heat enhances the chimney effect to
extract more energy from the air flow.

Recovering waste heat as low as 25 degrees
Celsius
uWIN wind turbine is designed to take the air
from the ground level up via Venturi portion to
exhaust.
The induced air flow from waste heat then drives
the ground level mounted wind turbine as shown
in the figure above.
The higher the ground inlet air temperature, the
better the overall efficiency, including that of the
Ventury area.

uWingreen wind turbine recovers energy from waste heat

  • 2. Introducing uWIN green A new invention, uWIN, could revive interest in energy recovery from low level waste heat. uWIN is a patented [1] low cost wind turbine, based on a chimney effect and a vacuum device powered by the wind [2] .
  • 3. Some background information Very low temperature heat waste is significant, yet energy recovery is complex and inefficient.
  • 4. Waste heat is everywhere Large amounts of waste heat are generated by industry, data centres, power plants and many processes that burn fossil fuels. For every useful kWh of energy almost the same amount is rejected to the environment. Researchers around the world worked for decades seeking ways to harness the very low temperature wasted energy economically with limited success[3] .

Waste heat categories Waste heat recovery is categorized in dividing temperature ranges into low, medium, and high quality of waste heat sources as follows: High: 650ºC and higher Medium: 230ºC to 650ºC Low: 230ºC and lower Very Low: 25ºC to about 75ºC Graph below shows that Very Low Temperature waste heat (25 to 75 degrees Celsius) is a significant contributor to global warming in USA [5] and throughout the world.

  • 8. Introducing uWIN green How uWIN wind turbine recovers low level waste heat ?  The waste heat is fed to uWIN air intake, as shown in the figure below. It is that simple.  Waste heat enhances the chimney effect to extract more energy from the air flow.

  • 10. Recovering waste heat as low as 25 degrees Celsius uWIN wind turbine is designed to take the air from the ground level up via Venturi portion to exhaust. The induced air flow from waste heat then drives the ground level mounted wind turbine as shown in the figure above. The higher the ground inlet air temperature, the better the overall efficiency, including that of the Ventury area.
