Performance: Storage IO Latency is a good indicator of a storage issue Queues can build up at any point in the path Is the latency “high” from the Host to the array? (i.e. > 20 ms) Is the bottleneck in the Host or the array? Is most of the delay coming from the host or the array? Which VMs are generating the most IO?

Migrating to vSphere 5 Visibility with Virtualization Manager Before you migrate: Analyze your current capacity, configuration and load across all your resources (CPU, Memory, Network and Storage) Evaluate your new licensing requirements After you migrate: New load balancing is per cluster, but you still need to analyze cluster performance for initial placement Police storage vMotion recommendations as vSphere has limited visibility into storage, so it may not align to your configuration or expectations. Continue to use Capacity Planner to be proactive to manager you capacity and IO – you can still overwhelm your resources.
