A gerund is the ing
form of a verb which
functions as a noun.
The examples that
follow show the
difference between a
gerund and a verb.

(verb)
• Reading is a good hobby.
(gerund)
• Mark is troubleshooting a
computer. (verb)
• Mark is good at
troubleshooting. (gerund)
A gerund may be used
with complements and
modifiers to form a gerund
phrase. A sentence with a
gerund phrase may offer
more information.
