Understand fully the process of getting published and to
critically evaluate and apply strategies that may be used in
getting scholarship or research published.
Student learning journey

suitable for their research.

• Intellectual Property Rights
• Task 3: Prepare and submit a paper to the online

Real World Experience
• Created online journal, scope and submission guidance
• Registered to join the journal and read requirements and guidance.
• Submitted paper - all journal mechanisms worked through the
journal including automatic receipt for submission
• Student allocated to 2 papers to peer review, peer review request
automated via e-mail student used to join.
• Receive e-mail request to peer review, accept then anonymous
peer reviews carried out online
• Feedback for each peer review returned through the online system,
peer reviews collated for individuals, files with grades for each peer
review loaded as a batch into Turnitin.

• Guidance for students for a peer review was added to the
journal.
• Students had to decide whether the paper should be:
Rejected, Major revisions, Minor revision, Accepted
• Students fully engaged in the process including making
suggestions for additional papers, critique of papers, positive
suggestions as two how the paper could be improved.
• Cross-programme peer reviews were possible where Sports
students had chosen psychology related topics and
psychology students topics were not too specialised.
• 2 Peer reviews each important as allowed for variations in
sizes and for variations in quality of submissions.
Benefits for students
• Gaining confidence through real world learning of journal
submission processes.
• Appreciated the value of the peer review process
including:
• Peer reviews of own work submitted x 2
• Peer reviewing two pieces of colleagues work
• The research wasn’t published so students could still
publish in a journal.

Student learning journey • Task 1: Explore the range of journals that might be suitable for their research. • Task 2: Engage with the range of learning materials • From research to submission • Peer review and publication • Post-publication and digital identity • Intellectual Property Rights • Task 3: Prepare and submit a paper to the online ResearchActive journal. • Task 4: Peer reviews of your colleague's submissions. Need for real world learning

Real World Experience • Created online journal, scope and submission guidance • Registered to join the journal and read requirements and guidance. • Submitted paper - all journal mechanisms worked through the journal including automatic receipt for submission • Student allocated to 2 papers to peer review, peer review request automated via e-mail student used to join. • Receive e-mail request to peer review, accept then anonymous peer reviews carried out online • Feedback for each peer review returned through the online system, peer reviews collated for individuals, files with grades for each peer review loaded as a batch into Turnitin. Anonymised peer review • Guidance for students for a peer review was added to the journal. • Students had to decide whether the paper should be: Rejected, Major revisions, Minor revision, Accepted • Students fully engaged in the process including making suggestions for additional papers, critique of papers, positive suggestions as two how the paper could be improved. • Cross-programme peer reviews were possible where Sports students had chosen psychology related topics and psychology students topics were not too specialised. • 2 Peer reviews each important as allowed for variations in sizes and for variations in quality of submissions.

Benefits for students • Gaining confidence through real world learning of journal submission processes. • Appreciated the value of the peer review process including: • Peer reviews of own work submitted x 2 • Peer reviewing two pieces of colleagues work • The research wasn’t published so students could still publish in a journal.
