Uses and gratification theory is the idea that the viewer will
specifically choose the media they watch, based on their
individual needs and preferences. It is understood that the
chosen media is to: Entertain, enhance knowledge,
improve social interactions and act as a diversion.
3. Entertainment
Relaxation and being diverted from problems.
Watching our film at the cinema or in your home will give a
sense of relaxation, as you can sit comfortably, with people
whose company you enjoy. Our film is an intense thriller,
which means the audiences attention will be fully directed
to the action taking place, and therefore distracting them
from any problems or worries in their lives. The storyline
allows the audience to explore their emotions, leaving the
film feeling satisfied and more enlightened about life.
4. Entertainment
Visual enjoyment and time consumption.
The viewer may get a pleasure from watching specific
actors or actresses. They may also get a pleasure from
watching scenes of an unknown or exciting event, such as
sexual scenes or drug use. Our opening sequence shows
alcohol use and violence; some people like watching this
take place. Watching our film will fill time and prevent
boredom for the viewer, it is also an activity that can be
done with friends/family/lovers meaning you are socializing
whilst enjoying a great film.

Connecting with family friends and society.
Normally people watch a film with other people whom
they enjoy spending time with. Our film is the perfect
chance for being around friends and family. The film we
are producing contains scenes which will get a reaction,
such as child violence and drug use. These topics can be
discussed after watching the film, and therefore
creating closer bonds and understanding of peers opinions.
6. Social Interaction
Having a topic for conversation and debates.
Watching a new and exciting film gives plenty of
opportunity for conversation. The audience can discuss:
Their favorite and least favorite parts of the film;
The plot and intense scenes and their opinions on them;
How the film could have been improved; and suggestions
for a sequel. Talking to others around you is the primary
form of social interaction.
