STRUCTURES
Are you familiar
with the word
parallel?
Parallel is two or more things
that are equal. In grammar,
parallel structure means the
same pattern or form of
words,phrases, or sentences to
show equality or similarity.
Parallel Structure
- means using the same construction
for sentence elements that are the
same in function. Parallel structures
also known as parallelism, for this is
use to create balance and clarity in a
sentence.
1. I like reading books, writing stories, and
studying grammar.
(“ reading, writing, and studying” are all
verbs in the same form.)
2. She is a talented singer , songwriter, and
musician.
(“ singer, songwriter, and musician” are all
nouns in the same form.)
3. I like swimming, dancing, and
singing.
(“ swimming, dancing, and singing”
all in the same verb form)
4. She is smart, kind, and helpful.
( all adjectives are in the same form)
