Importing Survey Data | ACAD Civil 3D | Total Station |Zakaria Yahya
A report prepared and compiled using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2016.
This report contents are Import of survey points or data into the computer, Creating Alignment, Making A Profile of road, and so on.
Road Alignment | Road Profile | Contour | Box Culvert | Add Labels | Pick Coordinates | Center Line Coordinates | Surface | Survey | Incremental Station Report |
This document provides an introduction to remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and the GIS software ArcGIS. It begins with definitions of remote sensing and GIS. It then outlines tutorials for using ArcGIS, including how to open ArcMap, add and explore data layers, navigate maps, identify features, edit data, work with labels and legends, and use layout view. The document covers basic functions in ArcGIS like navigation, selection, attribute tables, and editing tools as well as more advanced topics such as creating maps for printing.
The document describes two options for adding point data from a different coordinate system into a Civil 3D drawing:
Option 1 imports the points as a point cloud, which references rather than imports the points to keep file sizes smaller. It transforms both the coordinates and elevations.
Option 2 imports the points directly by first creating a new point file format that defines the source coordinate system. This transforms just the coordinates, not elevations, but adds the points directly to the drawing.
Both options have advantages and disadvantages regarding file size and what data is transformed. The best option depends on the specific data and needs of the project.
This tutorial guides the user through importing survey point data from a text file into AutoCAD to build a surface model of a river. It then demonstrates various ways of visualizing the surface, including contours, triangles, elevation banding and slope banding. Finally, it shows how to generate a profile of the surface by creating an alignment along the river and viewing elevations along that path.
This document provides instructions for importing survey point data into AutoCAD Civil 3D and generating a surface and profile from the point data. It guides the user through importing an ASCII text file of survey points with northing, easting, and elevation coordinates into AutoCAD to build a surface. It then demonstrates different ways of visualizing the generated surface, including contours, triangulated irregular networks, elevation banding, and slope banding. Finally, it shows how to create a profile of the surface by using the points to generate a polyline alignment and extracting a cross-sectional profile along the alignment path.
This document provides a step-by-step tutorial for creating custom maps using Google Maps screenshots and tracing in Microsoft Publisher. It outlines capturing a Google Maps screenshot, importing it into Publisher, tracing roads and other features, adding text and icons, customizing the map, and saving it as an image file. The process allows economic developers to easily create professional custom maps with basic graphic design skills.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Step 1
Open InDesign and go to File>New>Document or click the Create New File icon on the welcome screen. Set the settings shown here (these are all default settings except you’ll set it to 4 pages and click “facing pages”).
Step 2
Let’s set up the master pages. That way we can add a header and page numbers automatically. Make sure your “Pages” window is open from the Window Menu. DOUBLE-Click on the A-Master icon on the top of the Pages pull-out palette to work in the master pages shown here in yellow).
Step 3
In the lower-left hand corner of the left master page, click-and-drag with the Text tool to drag out a text box for the page number.
Step 4
Go to Type>Insert Special Character> Markers>Current Page Number.
Step 5
This will insert an automated page number so you don’t have to number each page. Change the size (and style if you want) of the font to an appropriate one for your publication.
[Note: Additionally, you could also place text (like the word 'page' or '#' symbol) in front of the page number and it would be continued throughout all pages using the master page template.]
Step 6
Select the Selection tool (black arrow). Hold down Option and click-and-drag the text box that has the automatic page number in it over to the right page to create another instance of the Auto Page Number. I placed the text box on the right side page on the lower right hand corner.
Step 7
If you put the text boxes for the page numbers in the same locations as I chose to, it should look something like this.
Step 8
Page numbers are not the only objects to put onto the master pages. And all the objects don’t have to be automatically updated objects, either. You can add photos, text, or shapes and they’ll be on every page. For this tutorial, add just a simple title at the top of each page by clicking-and-dragging out a text box along the top.
Step 9
Open the Paragraph palette under Window>Type & Tables>Paragraph and click the center or justify icon to center the text after highlighting it. Up in the Control options menu, change the tracking to 600 to increase the spacing of the text to spread out the title. The Tracking setting icon is an uppercase AV with directional arrows underneath it.
Step 10
Open Adobe Illustrator, create a New Document and go to File>Place to place the japanese_flag.gif file located in the downloadable support files for this tutorial (see Module 3 on our website).
Step 11
After clicking on the placed file with a Selection tool, open the Image Trace Control palette (under Window) to view the options for live tracing. Make sure the settings are set to the ones shown here; pretty much a basic black and white trace.
Step 12 Select Trace and then Go to the OBJECT menu and Expand (object+fill) to apply the trace to the selected artwork.
Step 13 Next, Deselect the image. Then, ...
1. The document provides instructions to create a personal geodatabase in ArcCatalog to store GIS data.
2. It describes how to create feature datasets and feature classes to organize different types of geographic features.
3. Steps are outlined to register a topographic map by adding control points and rectifying the map, then digitizing features from the map into the newly created feature classes.
This document provides a tutorial for creating custom maps using Microsoft Publisher. It is a 5-step process: 1) Take a screenshot of a Google map area in your browser, 2) Import the screenshot into Publisher, 3) Trace roads, boundaries and points of interest over the screenshot, 4) Add labels, icons and other customizations, 5) Save the finished map as an image file. The process allows economic developers to easily create professional custom maps without advanced design skills.

The document provides population change data from the U.S. Census from 1910-2000 expressed as percentages. It shows population changes for the United States, regions of the country, and individual states. The population grew fastest in the West and South between 1910-1950, with growth rates between 13-64%. States like California, Florida, and Texas saw especially large increases, above 30% in several decades.
This presentation was put on by Susan Price from FireCat Studio and myself (Kristen from Cubit) last Friday as part of the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association's Planning Services Track, Technology and Planning Session in San Antonio.
A synopsis of the session is as follows. Community planning has traditionally been a written report with few images. Is your local government organization effectively using internet to communicate with its citizenry? How do you find suitable services for providing the information and effectively move your plans to the internet? Citizens and public leaders are asking for more information and analysis. The traditional planning report cannot provide this data in a manageable format. There is a need to present this information in geospatial format, data base and provide web access. This session provides a discussion of web-based presentation of planning data and introduction to software that provides analysis of this data, with possible projections based on the data analysis.

Use MapWindow to Figure Out Census Tract by Cities
1. How to Figure Out Which Census Tracts Are in a City Using MapWindow<br />Double click on the MapWindow icon on your desktop to get started. Add the shapefiles that you downloaded from the Census Bureau to MapWindow by clicking on the Green Plus button. <br />Order the data so that the places are on top of the tracts by clicking on the places layer in the Legend and dragging it on top of the tracts layer. <br />Right click on the Places Layer & click View Attribute Editor.<br />Sort the Places Name ascending by right clicking on the column heading of Name10.<br />Click on the blank box on the left most column next to the city that you want to get data for to highlight that row. Then click Selection at the top of the screen & then click Export Selected Features. <br />Click ok. Then Click Yes to Load the New Shapefile.<br />You now have a shapefile of just the City that you want to figure out tracts for (see the green shape below). <br />Zoom to your city<br />I tried to move forward, but I kept getting errors. So I looked at the shapefile that I created, & there was an error in the .dbf file (it has a red x on it). Hopefully this won’t happen to you, but if it does, now you have 2 options. You can edit the DBF using OpenOffice and get the MapWindow insertion utilities to work. I don’t want to mess with editing the DBF; because it’s now 11:00 pm at night, and my example project is super small. But it would be the option that you’d need to take if you have a large city—like New York or LA. <br />Let’s say you get the DBF working. There are several GIS Tools in MapWindow that you can use to calculate which Census tracts are in your City. I’d probably use Identity of Shapes with Polygon first. <br />But if you’re like me and don’t want to or have to get the DBF working, try this. Right click on the City layer and click on Properties.<br />Scroll down & change the transparency percent to 50. Close Properties.<br />Right click on the Tract layer and click on Label Set up.<br />Click on TractCE10 and save. Tada! You now have Census Tracts for your City.<br />
