1. Usage of “In case and In case of”

2. We use ‘in case’ to talk about things we do because something
else might happen. That means if we don’t want to take any
chance or want to be more cautious.
Take an umbrella in case it rains. (It means there is every
chance, it might rain.)
We’ll take our car in case Murthy’s family come.
We’ll buy some fruits in case my mother comes.
Please study the following sentence.
We’ll buy some fruits if my mother comes. (This sentence
doesn’t give the same meaning. It is a condition. It clearly says
that if my mother comes then only we’ll buy fruits.)

3. We use ‘in case of’ to talk about some condition.
In case of fire, please leave the building.
In case of shortage, they’ll supply water.
The above two sentences clearly indicate a condition.
The first sentence gives the meaning ‘to leave the building
when fire breaks.
The second clearly gives the meaning that ‘they will supply
water when there is any shortage of water.
