Road to agile: federal government case studyDavid Marsh
Presentation to PMI Government Community of Practice on March 21, 2014. Case study of a transformation from traditional to agile way of working on a re-engineering project for a mission-critical financial system. Includes ideas behind transformation, specific techniques and tools used, as well as the outcomes.
Improving software development at scale - promise and pitfalls #llkd14Andy Carmichael
Software (as frequently observed) is hard. And software development at scale is particularly hard. Evidence suggests a strong inverse relationship between the likelihood of a software project delivering its planned benefits (within budgeted costs) and the project's size. While this is nothing new, we should ask why has there been so little improvement over the years.
Agile methods undoubtedly contributed much over their first two decades to the effectiveness of software teams - particularly "coffee-pot-sized" teams developing new products. Agile methods were primarily designed with this sized team in mind, and agile process frameworks are still defined almost entirely with reference to this scale. In their third decade however, the question of how these methods scale can no longer be avoided. This presentation, rather than focusing on the new frameworks that are now emerging, reviews anecdotal evidence as well as theoretical ideas on what improves (or degrades) performance of large initiatives… in particular the management behaviours that have proved helpful or counter-productive in real projects.
Large scale does not invalidate strategies that work at small scale, however it does introduce management problems that are new - problems that are not overcome by simply "keeping the geeks away from the suits" (or keeping the "chickens" silent while the "pigs" speak)!

Microsoft developer division has implemented SCRUM while developing Visual Studio 2012, and TFS 2012. In this talk we will cover information on this implementation. You will learn about why Microsoft has decided to implement SCRUM, best practices that was helpful for us. How implementing SCRUM has changed our cadence and product delivery cycle. The content will be our developer division SCRUM journey. We are not pure SCRUM put at future leavel we are. I will also discuss which part of our process is SCRUm which part still is not.

For projects like building a power plant or a train tunnel, tough project managers are needed. But when it comes to developing digital or physical products, the role of a project manager has an increasingly difficult standing. During agile or digital transformations, new roles emerge to take over project management tasks. So, are project managers needed in these areas in the future?

'How To Apply Lean Test Management' by Bob van de BurgtTEST Huddle
Cost reductions and the quest for more efficiency are more evident in today’s business world. It also follows that our testing processes will ultimately be affected. When test techniques and methods for structured testing are introduced, this results in improvements in the production of more consistent and predictable results.
Introducing a risk based approach to testing makes it easier for the business to determine to what extent testing is necessary and most efficient. The resulting Go/No- Go decision process may not be sufficient for all companies so other creative methods need to be investigated. Many management theories speak about “Lean” as being one of the solutions. One of the key steps in using “Lean” is the identification of which steps add value to the customer and which do not. This track will give you information to start using “Lean” within testing and more specifically within test management.
The presenter will also look at Lean Six Sigma as being one of the more popular theories that introduces the concept of “Lean” in combination with obtaining higher quality products. This subject will also be explained in combination with testing and test management. This track will focus on applying Lean Six Sigma techniques to test management processes using practical examples from customer cases. The audience can take home a practical “Lean Test Management” overview which they can apply in their own companies.
This track is especially of interest to business managers, IT managers, QA managers and test managers that are involved in improving the quality of test management processes.

The potato is a starchy root vegetable native to the Americas that is consumed as a staple food in many parts of the world. Potatoes are tubers of the plant Solanum tuberosum, a perennial in the nightshade family Solanaceae. Wild potato species can be found from the southern United States to southern Chile
Synopsis (short abstract) In December 2023, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 30 May as the International Day of Potato.
Monitoring Health for the SDGs - Global Health Statistics 2024 - WHOChristina Parmionova
The 2024 World Health Statistics edition reviews more than 50 health-related indicators from the Sustainable Development Goals and WHO’s Thirteenth General Programme of Work. It also highlights the findings from the Global health estimates 2021, notably the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on life expectancy and healthy life expectancy.
Combined Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Vessel List.Christina Parmionova
The best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool for a wide variety of stakeholders to better understand and combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, the following regional organisations maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas and/or species of competence:
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)
Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM)
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC)
Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO)
North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC)
South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO)
South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO)
Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)
Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC)
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all these sources into one list that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel is currently IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example because of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are also retained on the site, so that the site contains a full historic record of IUU listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on individual RFMO websites, which may update vessel details infrequently or not at all, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership, location, and operations.

Alma development uses the Agile methodology in which we introduce new
functionality in quarterly releases and bugs fixes every month
Release preproduction tests (manual and automatic) are performed using a
replication of selected customer environments on the cloud to ensure
correctness of deployment procedures
The scripts runs and is tested on each database clone as final step before
releasing it to the customers.
We have ~2370 daily automatic testing scenarios running during the release
QA period.
The test scope (manual and automatic) is based on real customer scenarios
and is enriched every release.
We are running lesson learn sessions for each regression that we find
internally or as well as for regression coming from production customers.
