Sulphuric Acid Production Should Not Be Banned Essay example
Sulphuric Acid Production Should Not Be Banned
Background Information
Acids and bases are chemical compounds with certain properties, and are classified according to
several different definitions. There are clear distinctions between the two types of compounds, and
although they share some similarities in their physical and chemical properties, their uses and
applications vary greatly. Acidscan be described as having a sour taste, producing hydronium ions
in water, forming a salt and water when reacted with a base and having a pH of less than 7. In
contrast, bases follow the descriptions that; they taste bitter, produce hydroxide anions in water,
feel soapy slippery and have a pH of more than 7. There are three chemistry based ... Show more

1. Strong acid + strong base пѓ Salt + water
e.g. HNO3 + LiOH пѓ LiNO3 + H2O
In this reaction, the products are always a salt and water. The salt, in a reaction between a strong
acid a strong base, always has a pH of 7.00. The produced ions will not react with the H2O.
2. Strong acid + weak base пѓ Salt
e.g. H2SO4 + NH3 пѓ (NH4)2SO4
Usually, reactions between strong acids and weak bases do not result in water being formed, and
instead only a salt is produced. This is because weak bases usually do not have hydroxide ions.
3. Weak acid + strong base пѓ Salt + water
e.g. HNO2 + NaOH пѓ NaNO2 + H2O
The reaction between a weak acid and a strong base results in the production of a basic salt, i.e. a
salt with pH 7, and water.
4. Weak acid + weak base пѓ Salt
e.g. HNO2 + HN3 пѓ NH4NO2
The pH of the solution formed from the reaction of a weak acid with a weak base depends on the
relative strengths of the reactants. For example, if the acid HClO has a Ka of 3.4 x 10 8 and the
base NH3 has a Kb = 1.6 x 10 5, then the aqueous solution of HClO and NH3will be basic because
the Ka of HClO is less than the Ka of NH3. (Helmenstine, 2004)
Production of Sulphuric Acid
Sulphuric acid, in its anhydrous form, cannot naturally occur on Earth; however, the natural
formation of sulphuric acid does occur, rarely, in a few different circumstances. One natural
occurrence of sulphuric acid happens due to the sulphur dioxide gas produced by volcanoes. Sulphur

Essay on Character And Theme In Rip Van Winkle
In Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle, Rip s character is closely correlated with the theme of
nature and its prominence over the ever changing world. The story is set in the Kaatskill
Mountains, an important setting with a luminance that does not falter throughout. Similarly, Rip is
immediately described as a respectable and well liked man in his mountainous setting. Right off
the bat, the two can be easily associated. The magical elements in the story cause Rip to fall
asleep for twenty years, and upon waking, he is in a world completely changed by the progression
of time. However, despite the extreme alterations, only Rip and the nature that he is so familiar
with are able to prevail, remaining ultimately unaffected by the... Show more content on

Almost as soon as the grand setting is told, the designation of the story itself, the character Rip
Van Winkle, is introduced. He is depicted ideally as well, said to be simple and widely liked, and
most importantly good natured. Without hesitation, it is stated that he is a descendant of a family
who played a more than respectable role in the history that helped to capture and establish the
land that is now his mountainous village. He is recognized as more than the average citizen
already, perhaps one of great influence, not unlike the nature itself. He was, moreover, a kind
neighbor and an obedient henpecked husband. Indeed, to the latter circumstance might be owing
that meekness of spirit which gained him such universal popularity, (Irving 702). Despite this
constant distressing of his spouse, made eminent in the opening pages, Rip was able to ignore the
chronic squabbling and seek elsewhere for loyal friendships, which in turn, boosted his regard.
After some time, however, the nagging became overbearing, and he was forced to flee to the
highest peak of the mountains where he would be surrounded by nature, and thus was at ease with
himself. However, Irving introduces a twist; the nature of the mountains cast a magical command
upon Rip and forced him into a sound sleep for twenty years. When he awoke Rip found himself
an old man in a place that was, at first,

Reciprocity And Kawelka Relationship
The act of reciprocity, the mutual act of giving and receiving; giving more than you are taking. A
quote that really captures the true meaning of reciprocity is, People gave with the expectation of
taking and took with the expectation of giving (Harris 1989). This is seen across many different
cultures and time periods. Nevertheless, they are not all the same, and may not generate
equivalent types of relationships, for social and personal value. In this essay we will look at two
separate acts of reciprocity; how they work, and what they provide. First, a look into the Gebusi
sister exchange, and then into the Kawelka s moka ceremony. Everyone desires connection,
whether that be through friendships or sexual relations.
Community and the desire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among the Kawelka tribe, reciprocity serves as a way of gaining prestige and shaming rivals
(Cronk 1988). This form of exchange serves as way of social superiority. Their ritual is called the
moka; this is a very important ceremony to their tribe. The reason why Ongka so wanted to give
his big moka, is that only by giving can he earn fame and status for his tribe and for him (Niarn
1974). The moka ceremony is a formal interaction in which one man gives more than he received
from another, as a pay back of debt, as well as a trump to their social status. However, the return
of the moka cannot happen after a long period of time, doing so immediately would serve as a
desire to cut the strings and end the relationship. It is expected that the debt will be repaid when
the time comes, if it is not the one who has not repaid the debt will lose their support and status
as a big man . The goal of the moka is to eventually become a big man , also known as a tribal
leader (Cronk 1988). After one big moka was thrown by Ongka, that included several hundreds of
pigs, a truck, thousands of dollars and more, he told the recipient of his moka, I have won. I have
knocked you down by giving so much (Cronk 1988; Nairn

The Legacy Of Darius The Great
Darius I ,also known as Darius the Great, was the third king who reigned from 550 486 BCE
during the Achaemenid Empire. While he lived, Darius held the empire at its peak, which
stretched from the river Nile and parts of Northern Greece to the Indus River Valley. One of the
most major events in Darius s life was his expedition to discipline Athens and Eretria for their
support in the Ionian Revolt. He made his empire larger by vanquishing Thrace and Macedon,
and occupying Scythia. He also arranged his empire, by splitting it into provinces and placing
governors to rule over it. Darius organized a new financial system, along with making Aramaic
the official language of the empire. He further worked on establishment projects throughout the
empire. Darius also formulated a codification of laws for Egypt. He order the carving of the cliff
face Behistun Inscription, an autobiography of great modern linguistic significance. Darius also
started many massive architectural projects including magnificent palaces in Persepolis, and
Susa. Darius was born as the eldest of five sons to a leading figure of power in Persia named
Hystaspes. Herodotus of Halicarnassus wrote that after a dream that seemed to predict Darius
reign, King Cyrus became suspicious of the son of Hystaspes, who was about twenty at that time
and had been left behind in Persia because he was too young for war (Herodotus) . Herodotus adds
that Cyrus sent back Hystaspes to control his son. A couple days late and the

Essay On Sekou Sundiata
Many times I have struggled to express myself. A plethora of ideas would be trapped inside my
head. Sometimes I would be at a loss of words and couldn t explain my thoughts verbally or on
paper. No matter how much effort I put in, my words wandered off and I could find no method of
portraying my emotions. After many failed attempts, I finally found something that could express
what I feel and what I want others to feel. It s music. Performance poet, Sekou Sundiata, is able to
clearly express himself in a way where others can understand him by incorporating poetry with
music. Both Sundiata and I were searching for a way to share our life experiences in a creative yet
understandable format; we accomplished that through music. In the film... Show more content on

When Sundiata changes his tone of voice, sometimes it s too low that you cannot hear him or it
s too high which hinders ones hearing. Also, the way he uses the microphone disrupts the
cleanliness of his voice. If the microphone is too close to his mouth it may sound scratchy. If it s
is too far away then it s difficult to hear him. Lastly, Sundiata changes the speed of his voice
frequently. For example, in Sundiata s poem Space from The Circle Unbroken is a Hard Bop, he
is speaking extremely fast and it s hard to catch his words. As a result, the audience is unable to
comprehend his words, which lead to failure of drawing a connection to his poems. These magic
tricks seem superfluous and revoke his audience from understanding his words. Although this
supports the idea that Sekou Sundiata is not able to clearly connect with his audience, there are
more ways he does connect with them. Sundiata s magic tricks help him connect with the viewers
because they draw attention. He also connects really well with his audience by reflecting on his
past. Sundiata talks about human rights and black freedom which relates and interests many
people. Lastly, he reflects on his childhood in Harlem which many people who grew up at that time
and place could relate to as well. Sundiata clearly displays an ardent connection with his audience

Theme Of Oedipus Rex And The Kite Runner
Over the history of man, stories have been told in many fashions, but even through all that time
some basic elements of storytelling hold true. For example, even though Oedipus Rex and The Kite
Runner were written hundreds of years and hundreds of miles apart, they still have similarities.
They both use irony, suspense and other writing methods to present a story in an entertaining and
thought provoking way. Also, between the two books they share major themes. The Kite Runner
and Oedipus Rex share the theme of guiltand shame, as illustrated in the stories ironies, climax, and
by the protagonist actions.
Both stories are full of ironies that contribute to the guilt and shame theme. Oedipus Rex is a
prime example of using dramatic irony to drive a story. Since the audience back when the drama
was released, they would have known the outcome of the story. So, throughout the story the
audience knows that he is guilty, as Oedipus follows down a path that will lead to this horrific
realization. Much of this dramatic irony is what makes the guilt he feels at the end all the more
painful, for the audience wishes does not find out. Also Oedipus s own accusations and
condemnation against those guilty of the murder is ironic when he discovers that he is guilty.
Likewise, The Kite Runner uses irony to further Amir s grief. The biggest form of irony in the
book is the fact that Hassan was Amir s half brother. This adds an additional level of shame for
Amir. Now, not only does

Essay Before Breakfast by Eugene O Neill
Before Breakfast
Before Breakfast is a short gloomy play by Eugene O Neill. Eugene O Neill was born in 1888 in
New York City. He is the only American dramatist to ever win the Nobel Prize for literature.
Before Breakfast is set in the Greenwich Village section of New York City, in a small one room
flat on Christopher Street. The flat consists of a kitchen and dinning area. There are only two
characters in this drama. Mrs. Roland who is the only speaking character and her husband Alfred.
Alfred s hand is seen once in the play, but not much else. This is symbolic of an absentee husband
or a non existent marriage. Although, Alfred is not seen, he contributes a great deal to the conflict.
With only Mrs. Rowland on stage, O Neill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The child, the reason the couple married, born dead. Alfred unable to sell his writings, is
depressed. His depression contributes to a self destructive lifestyle, dragging his wife along with
him. It was inevitable the marriage would fail.
Mrs. Rowland, the protagonist, is portrayed as the stereotypical nagging wife. While a flat
character, she is very realistic. Her level of diction implies her lack of education, she is also
bitter towards her husband. Her bitterness is not unfounded. Alfred is of no help, Heaven knows
I do my part and more going out sewing every day while you play the gentleman and loaf around
bar rooms with that good for nothing lot of artists from the Square (Jacobs 1211). Mrs. Rowland
s husband is adulterous and can not hold down a job. Mrs. Rowland loves her husband, although
she does not like the way he treats her. She exhibited love by continually enabling him, paying the
rent, providing food, and cleaning up after him. She regards Alfred s depression as laziness. Not
that I ve got any doubts about your being lazy enough to stay in bed forever (Jacobs 1211). After
learning Alfred s lover Helen, is pregnant, her frustration and disappointments only intensify.
Alfred the antagonist is a flat character, but also very realistic. He is the stereotypical insensitive,
substandard husband. Mrs. Rowland thought that Alfred loved her when he didn t let his father buy
her off. Alfred was suppose to be

The Cold Blooded Murder of Mr. Verbermockle
54.3 percent of murder victims were killed by someone they knew (acquaintance, neighbor,
friend, boyfriend, etc.), 24.8 percent were killed by a family member. The evidence shows that
this is logically the case in the Verbermockle murder mystery. After allegedly finding Mrs.
Verbermockle s husband unconscious on the bathroom floor, Mrs. Verbermockle calls her family
doctor. Mrs. Verbermockle claimed that he must have slipped on a bar of soap, and she did not
touch him. When the doctor arrived, he announced Mr. Verbermockle dead from a fracture to the

Verbermockle suffered blunt force head trauma. Knowing that he was killed using blunt force
head trauma, either the weapon or the body would have made a loud noise from impact. Mrs. V
would have been able to hear this loud bang in her own home. Any normal person would have
rushed to the scene immediately after hearing the noise, especially if the impact was tough
enough to cause a fracture in the rear of his skull, as the doctor had mentioned. In addition, Mr.
V s body seems to be in front of the sink, implying that he was in front of the mirror at the time of
the impact. Anyone would have been able to react if they saw someone behind them in the
mirror. However, his body is placed as if he hadn t moved a muscle. Though if he saw his wife
behind him, he wouldn t have had any worry of suspicion of an intruder. Most importantly, next to
the body is a broken bottle of cologne or mouthwash that could have been used as the murder
weapon. At the murder scene you can see that the victim has some type of liquid come from the
back of his head, where he was hit at. The bottle was used to hit Mr. V in the back of the head
causing a fracture in his skull while splashing the liquid on him at the same time. Unless the liquid
coming from his head was blood, then bottle didn t splash on him during the attack. We also know
that the attack would have to be fast and swift, as the body seems that he hadn t moved from the

The Struggle Of Survival By Sherman Alexie
The Struggle of Survival
Imagine growing up in a place where everyone is poor, there is only one road going through the
town, one school, and one store. Now imagine having a tragic ancestral history of people who
were taken advantage of, massacred, and forced into the slums of society. For the people who
live in this place, this means there are little to no resources or opportunities to prosper and make a
better life. Also everyone there is being dragged down by a history of abuse and these misfortunes
are still affecting them in present day. The book The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven by
Sherman Alexie follows a young Indian boy through his experiences on an Indian reservation. in the
short stories Alexie demonstrates the good, the bad, and the ugly of what goes on native
American reservations. There is a deep longing of men to be warriors, because they have a need to
get ahead of their tragic history, and survive the harsh societies that try to keep them down, as
second class citizens.
Native Americans are constantly trying to escape their tragic history. The short story Every Little
Hurricane observes a typical night for a young native American boy on an Indian reservation. he
describes the adults surrounding him getting drunk and being reckless. towards the end of This
night the boy describes a significant moment when his uncle and father have a drunken petty fight.

The Healing Of A Healing Hospital
A hospital is a place that people go to for healing and help. Many associate fear with hospitals due
to previous experiences. Rather than relaxing and having optimal time to heal, hospitals can create
stressful environments for patients as well as employees. A new type of hospital setting breaking
out in the healthcare industry are healinghospitals that provides a patient centered environment. In
this paper I will discuss the aspects of a healing hospital, its relationship to spirituality, the
challenges of creating a healing environment, and finally the biblical aspects of a healing hospital.
What is a Healing Hospital?
A healing hospital is a place that is patient centric and focuses on making the patient relaxed and
allow healing in a peaceful environment. The three aspects of a healing hospital include a quiet
environment, integrating technology into care, and providing compassionate care to patients.
These components are beneficial to both hospital staff and patients. By providing a noise free
environment caregivers are less apt to get distracted (Eberst, 2008, pg. 78). When hospital staff
have a calm environment where they can think through situations, the right decision is more likely
to be made. Distractions can be detrimental to the health of a patient. Nurses should be confident in
their decision making process and know that they are making the right choice. Using technology
efficiently in healthcare can speed up results which allows doctors to create a

Reflection On Reading Comprehension
Introduction
Reading is one of the most beneficial activities a man can do. Out of reading, man can be able to
discover new things, concepts, places and people. More so, reading is a way to relax our mind and
soul, going deeply through the world of story and improves our thinking and internalization process.
Furthermore, reading opens the mind to new horizons and exposes a new experience. That s why,
whilst reading it also needs some sort of any other way of process, wherein man can read and
understand texts deeply. This so called other way of process is the outlining, that in such a way,
can be a tool for a meaningful reading comprehension.
An outline establishes an orderly relationship of facts or ideas. It is an essential tool and a time
saver. (De La Cruz and Aquino, 2008). It is the guide when reading or guide for writing a report.
Furthermore, outlining serves as a visualization of the ideas and information in an orderly manner.

Negotiation is the process of making amicable decisions between individuals or groups. In this

Charles Wesley Research Paper
Charles Wesley is mostly known as a Methodist hymn writer. However, he made many more
contributions to the Methodist movement than just hymns. He was the co creator of the
movement with his brother John. He was also a preacher, a leader, and a theologian, in addition
to a hymn writer. He is rarely considered separately from his brother, except concerning his
hymns. Assist Me to Proclaim: The Life and Hymns of Charles Wesley by John R. Tyson and
Charles Wesley and the Struggle for Methodist Identity by Gareth Lloyd attempt to change the
narrative by presenting Charles as separate from his brother and as more than just a hymn writer.

Whitefield was preaching predestination, the idea that God has already decided who is of the elect.
The Wesleys believed in unlimited atonement, the idea that God s forgiveness and grace are
available to everyone, not just a certain chosen few (Tyson 106 107). Charles viewed Whitefield
as a good godly man who was confused by false teachers and evildoers (Tyson 127 129). The two
friends agreed to disagree about the predestination issue and put their differences aside because of
their shared concern for ministry. This disagreement would result in two different types of
Methodism: Calvinist Methodism, who believed in predestination, and Wesleyan Methodists, who
believed in unlimited atonement (Tyson 114 115). Another issue concerning the Methodist
movement was that locals and Anglican ministers sometimes turned against the Wesleys. The
brothers, especially John, were accused of being papists, the only authority coming from the
Wesleys (Tyson 136). Mob violence was directed against the Methodists; the Methodists did not
retaliate, instead practicing nonviolence resistance. The persecution they felt would eventually

Pros And Cons Of The Individual Mandate
The individual mandate is a tax penalty for those who do not obtain health insurance. This is a
highly controversial aspect of the Affordable Care Act that is currently up for debate. Under the
latest version of the GOP tax reform bill, the individual mandate is up for elimination. Eliminating
the individual mandate would ultimately cause healthier people to opt out of healthcare insurance.
This would leave only unhealthy people being the ones who purchase health insurance, which in the
long run would lead to higher healthcare costs. By ending the mandate premiums would rise and
businesses would possibly shift to high deductible plans or cut coverage entirely. With the creation
of the Affordable Care Act under Obama, it was said to be like a Expedia for health insurance

It would also lead to insurance companies leaving the public marketplaces. This is because without
a mixture of both healthy and unhealthy participants a financial disaster would occur, this is if only
unhealthy people obtained health insurance. There would be an unbalance in the risk pool causing
premiums to rise. So, insurance companies would either leave the market or have to offer healthy
people cheaper plans in order to get them to participate in health insurance. With the elimination of
the individual mandate there also would be cuts in Medicaid as well as fewer subsidies being paid
by the federal government to purchase health plans on the ACA exchanges. Essentially the
individual mandate helped keep the cost of health insurance lower for everyone but making
younger and healthier people buy insurance, without the mandate the health insurance market will

Review Of Robert Mundell s Trilemma Essay
Section I: Exchange Rates Paper
Robert Mundell s Trilemma, also known as the Impossible Trinity, states that a nation cannot realize
monetary policy autonomy, free capital movements, and exchange rate stability at the same time.
While either of the two goals can combine and actualize in any given period, as a simultaneous and
three fold effort, each objective cannot coexist. Together they are simply incompatible. Thus, and
holding true to the tradeoff nature of economics, Mundell s undisputed theory illustrates that in
order for a nation to attain its preferred monetary goals it must give up one desired option.
Nevertheless, it is no easy decision. Before any resolution is made, nations must invest substantial
time and energy into understanding the consequences at stake because the policies that they do
deicide to implement are not only felt at a national or international level but personally amongst
those that they govern.
To exemplify the tradeoffs that define the Trilemma s policy combinations, consider a nation with a
long history of high inflation and a central bank that has limited credibility. Bearing in mind that
low inflation is a primary macroeconomic goal amongst world powers and likened to symbolize
economic stability, would not the aim of the nation be to promote steady financial growth through
deflation? And while the costs of inflation are substantially high on their own, when coupled with
uncertainty produced by an unreliable central bank the costs are only

CIPD s HR Profession Map sets out standards for HR professionals around the world the activities,
knowledge and behaviours needed for success. It represents an accurate tool that guides an HR
practitioner s learning and development towards becoming an effective HR professional. It was
launched in 2009 and today it is used by a large number of organisations to define or benchmark
their team of HR professionals at all levels.
The map has a form of a cycle and consists of 10 professional areas and 8 behaviours which are
hierarchically split in 4 bands of professional competence. The behaviours are positioned on the
edge of the cycle (map) and describe the way HR professionals should carry out their day to day
activities. Professional areas of the map are built of 2 core areas and 8 professional areas.
Insights, Strategy and Solutions and Leading HR are positioned in the middle of the map. They
represent core areas of HR profession that are vital to all HR professionals. Manny CIPD reports
showed that success of HR professionals depends on their capability to understand business of
organisation in general (mission, vision, strategy and context of the industry) and their competence
to lead (leading themselves, others and leading issues).

Active Aging Essay
Active aging is defined as the maintenance of positive subjective well being, good physical, social
and mental health and continued involvement in one s family, peer group and community
throughout the aging process (Hofer, 2016, p.1). Active aging promotes the vision of all individuals
regardless of age, socioeconomic status or health fully engaging in life within all seven dimensions
of wellness: emotional, environmental, intellectual/cognitive, physical, professional/vocational,
social and spiritual ( What is Active Aging, 2017).
Active does not just refer to the ability to participate in the workforce or be physically active. It
also refers to the continued participation in social, economic, cultural, spiritual and civic affairs.
Older people who are ill, live with disabilities, and/or are retired from work can still be active
participants in the lives of their families, peers, and communities. The goal of active aging is to
extend healthy life and the quality of life for people as they age ( Active Ageing: A Policy
Framework, 2002).
The active ageing approach is based on the recognition of the human rights of older people and
the United Nations Principles of independence, participation, dignity, care and self fulfillment. It
moves from the assumption that older people are passive (a needs based approach) to the idea that
people should be afforded equality in all areas as they age (a rights based approach) ( Active

MPLS works by prefixing packets with an MPLS header, containing one or more labels . This is
called a label stack. Each label stack entry contains four fields: в—Џ A 20 bit label value. в—Џ A 3
bit Traffic Class field for QoS (quality of service) priority (experimental) and ECN (Explicit
Congestion Notification). в—Џ A 1 bit bottom of stack flag. If this is set, it signifies that the
current label is the last in the stack. в—Џ An 8 bit TTL (time to live) field. These MPLS labeled
packets are switched after a label lookup/switch instead of a lookup into the IP table. As mentioned
above, when MPLS was conceived, label lookup and label

The Characteristics Of The Inner Planets In The Solar System
The Solar System
A solar system is defined as a star together with a group of celestial bodies that are held by its
attraction and revolve around it. Our specific solar system contains the inner planets, the outer
planets, and other celestial bodies like moons, comets, and asteroids. All of these things revolve
around the sun in repeating cycles and add to the to beauty of the place in which we live, Earth
which is the only life sustaining inner planet.
The Inner Planets are the planets that are closest to the sun. These planets include Mercury, Venus,
Earth, and Mars, which are made of solid, dense rock. Even though these planets are composed of
similar materials, they all have unique characteristics that set them apart from other planets.
Mercury is the first planet in the solar system. It was named after the Roman messenger god
because it has the fastest orbit around the sun. Mercury is also the smallest planet in our solar
system with a diameter of only 3,031 miles. Because Mercury is so small, its gravitational pull is
very weak. Mercury s atmosphere is so small that it can be compared to artificial vacuums of
earth. Because the atmosphere is so thin, its temperature differs greatly between day and night. The
average temperature on Mars during the day is 800В°F and at night it is 350В°F. The temperature
difference is really what sets it apart from other planets (Watters 53 55).
Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system with a temperature of 900В°F. It seems

Progreso Financiero
Progreso Financiero faces two critical problems. First, it is falling significantly short of its sales
forecasts (Exhibit 4), causing concern for investors and employees of the company. Second,
Progreso has not yet identified a clear path to profitability. There are four key drivers to
underperformance at Progreso Financiero: poor salesanalytics systems, improper human resource
management, poor managerial decision making and ineffective compensation incentives. The
collective result of these shortcomings is that Progreso s sales employees are highly unmotivated

Lastly, Progreso s agreement with Sears forced it to offer its customers a form of payment (gift
cards) that limited their spending flexibility and made the offering less attractive overall. While
expanding to merchant accounts increased overall volume of sales, it did so at the expense of its
sales employees. As shown in Exhibit 1, Progreso s merchant launch in September 2007
immediately precipitated a decline in its loan per employee ratio, well below the commission
threshold level. Previously AEs were able, on average, to reach or surpass 15 loans per month but
after the merchant launch, loans per month declined to 7 per month on average. Despite this,
Progreso made no change to its commission incentive structure to accommodate for the
differences in sales velocity by channel. Progreso faces two key challenges going forward. It
must satisfy investors by proving that it can meet its aggressive sales forecasts and it also must
outline a clear path towards profitability. Currently Progresso is spending more to acquire a
customer (~$177 CPA, Exhibit 3) than it is earning in downstream value from customers acquired
(~$100 CLV, Exhibit 2). In order to improve profitability of its customers, Progreso either needs to
increase the margins per loan transaction or improve its retention

Disadvantages Of Fair Trade Coffee
In Canada, coffee represents 18% of all consumed beverages, making it the second most popular
drink in Canada, water being the first. Fair trade coffee ensures that the coffee farmers who
produce Canada s second most popular beverage are paid fairly. Fair trade coffee is a partnership
that relies on the collaboration of coffee producers, traders, buyers, and consumers to produce
equitable and sustainable changes in the way we trade coffee (Liberman, S., R.N. 2008). Fair trade
certification was developed in 1988 to guarantee that farmers are paid a stable minimum price
for their product and to empower small scale coffee producers (Cole, N. L., Brown, K. 2014).
However, due to a growing market, fair trade coffee certification is losing sight of its original goal
to help create fair trade circumstances for small scale coffee producers.
The Fair Trade for All implementation which aims to increase the market for fair trade coffee
beans by allowing coffee plantations, who produce large amounts of coffee, to become fair trade
certified. However, supply for fair trade coffee is larger than the demand. This makes it much
harder for small coffee producers to sell their coffee as they must compete with large coffee
plantations who can produce much more coffee, ultimately putting small scale coffee producers at
a disadvantage (Cole, N. L., Brown, K. 2014).
Fair trade certified farmers are paid more for their coffee beans than non certified farmers,

Rise Of Humanity Dbq
Rise of Humanity The Renaissance was a period of discovery and somehow turned the world
upside down. The Middle Ages were dominated by the Roman Catholic Church with a focus on the
sinful man, few people owned land and most were illiterate. During the 1300 s, education started to
increase because improvements in farm production increased product, this allowed serfs and lords
to move to towns. The invention of the printing press spread the Renaissanceand humanist thinking
because books, bibles, and ect. were now available to common men. The Renaissance changed
man s view of the world in at least three ways: an emphasis on individualism, how one s life
should be lived and scientific discoveries. To begin with, the clearest reason of the break with the
tedious Medieval culture comes from the visual arts. To illustrate, images: Madonna Enthroned

The University of Oklahoma is rated as a yellow light university, and Oklahoma State University
is rated as a red light university. According to FIRE, a yellow light university is one with policies
that could somewhat easily be able to restrict a limited amount of protected expression. This type of
speech code has a clear approach to what content is prohibited, like content regarding alcohol or
drugs. A red light, what OSU was rated, means that the institution has at least one policy that clearly
and substantially restricts freedom of speech. The universityrestricts access to their speech codes
by requiring a login and password, which impedes prospective students from seeing what is
prohibited. FIRE believes that this action alone is deceptive and serious enough to give the
university a red light rating. In one case at OSU, a pro life club called Cowboys for Life was

Acidosis vs. Alkalosis There are many factors that keep the human body functioning on a normal
level. One of the factors is a person s pH level. In a regularly functioning body a human s blood pH
level should stay around 7.4, a level between 7.35 and 7.45 is considered normal. Anything above
7.45 or below 7.35 is considered dangerous. If the pH level is above 7.45 it is considered alkaline,
while anything below 7.35 is considered acidic. In most cases the body has compensatory

If the respiration rate is too slow, more CO2 is retained with each breath instead of it being
removed as it is during regular breathing. Other causes of respiratory acidosis can be chest injuries
(that cause the chest to not be able to rise enough for normal respirations), abuse or overuse of
sedative or depressive type drugs (which slows the breathing rate), and chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (which causes damage of lung tissue over time, making full breathes
impossible). Some of the symptoms that can occur in a person that is in respiratory acidosis can
be that the person is confused, has shortness of breath, has skin that is red or flushed, and fatigue

to aid a person s lungs or breathing. In some instances, a patient might be given oxygen or be put

Spongy Bone Essay
Bone is made up of two types of structure which are the compact bone and the spongy bone.
Compact bone lies over spongy bone and makes up most of a bone s diaphysis, it consist of
compactly arranged osteons which is the Harvesian system. Compact bone able to protect, supports
and resist stress. Spongy bonemakes up most of the mass short, flat and irregular bones and is also
found at the epiphyses of long bones. It stores marrow and provides some support. The size of the
bone grow throughout childhood and adolescence as our body produces more bone than it loses.
At some point in life, human will be at their peak bone mass density (BMD) which is the end of
the bone growth. For normal human being, the BMD usually stays constant as the break down and
regeneration of bone is equal. However, for certain people, the bone loses is more than the

Cancellous bone is more active and is broken down and regenerated more quickly than compact
bone. Because of this, cancellous bone is more likely to be affected when the break down and
regeneration of bone are out of balance in osteoporosis. The cells that are responsible for the
BMD to stay constant is osteoblasts and osteoclasts. The function of osteoblasts is that it
produces new bone matrix in a process called ossification while osteoclasts are cells that remove
and recycle bone matrix. For a normal bone, there is a balance between the action of osteoblasts
and osteoclasts but in osteoporotic bone, the activity of the osteoclasts in removing bone matrix is
faster than the osteoblasts can form a new bone matrix. This results in a net bone lose.
Osteoporosis can also lead to thinning of both the compact bone and cancellous bone which makes

his impact during the battle between the armies of Arthur and that of Mordred. But in Malory s Le
Morte d , Arthur could be seen more as a traitor who wants to lure Guinevere into marrying by
proposing to her after Arthur had engaged her hands in marriage. Arthur could be seen as the hero
in both versions as the future of the kingdom solely rest upon his shoulders coupled with the
support of the Lady of the Lake. However, some people argue that Lancelot is the hero due to his
bravery.
The events that were recorded in both stories differ in its interpretations. The issue of land disputes
between King Arthur and Mordred was recorded differently. In the Excalibur, King Arthur was
reluctant in allocating his share of the empire to Mordred and this led to series of dispute between
both of them, While in Le Morte d Arthur, it was accounted that King Arthur was willing to
voluntarily allot his share of the empire to

The Role Of Role Portrayal And Facade Is Essential For...
Roles are played depending on the audience set before the actor, who must decide the
characteristics they want to portray. These societal roles are often manipulated in a manner by
which the actor feels as though they have control towards an end goal they wish to achieve.
However, the roles are not always met in the way expected and the traits in the role an individual
plays results in either personal destruction or salvation. In Shakespeare s Henry IV, the
importance of role portrayal and facades is essential for Prince Henry/Hal, King Henry and
Falstaff because not only does it set their images in the public perception, but it allows the reader
to see a glimpse into the true mind of the character. Prince Hal has a reputation so... Show more

The war is just about to take place and it is certain that many lives will be lost from the battle,
but despite the prince s likely fear, he makes an offer to his father where he suggest that he will,
to save the blood on either side, try fortune with [Henry Percy] in a single fight (Shakespeare
V.i.99 100). He made the choice to challenge his foil to save the lives of many others, despite it
putting his own life at a great risk. He spoke bravely to his father before the battle in risking his
own, and demonstrated great leadership. The moment where he chose to offer his own life for
the sake of many others proved Hal s willingness to be an honourable leader. However, despite all
of Hal s efforts to be the best man possible, his father still perceives him to be the reckless and
unfit son who disappointed the family. Though he failed to impress his father, Hal did succeed in
impressing many others and set forth the premise for his future reign as King after his father, his
role ultimately leading to his salvation in the eyes of others. Unlike Hal, King Henry s role consist
of three qualities that radiate kingship, the traits being composed, assertive and commanding.
Despite these traits being essential to kingship, they ultimately lead to the court turning against
King Henry and planning a rebellion against him. When discussing news of war and casualties in
his throne room, Henry remains composed and finds the positive points in the situation rather the

Healthcare s Application Of Petronio s Communication...
Healthcare s Application of Petronio s Communication Privacy Management Theory
Communication privacy management theory (CPM) developed by Sandra Petronio in 1991, is
a theory about how people make decisions regarding how they reveal and/or conceal their
private information. CPM functions on the premise that individuals maintain and manage
privacy boundaries in their interpersonal communications depending on the perceived weight of
ones benefit and cost of disclosure (Bridge Schrodt, 2013). The purpose of this paper is to
demonstrate how CPM through the use of three operational theories plays a significant role in
our lives and our interpersonal communications. At its core are three operational theories that act
as guiding principles, they are simple in nature and easily defined how ownership forms
personal rules for disclosure; how we coordinate and control disclosure and relational turbulence
that occurs when individual boundary rules are at odds (Griffin, 2009, p. 121). We will explore
each theory and provide real life applications utilizing examples of how healthcare organizations
and providers use CPM in their practice. Privacy Ownership Through the use of privacy
boundaries to divide private and public information CPM contends that when we disclose private
information we depend on a rule based management system to control the level of accessibility and
privacy boundaries to govern self disclosure. As a way to manage privacy boundaries individuals

Abigail Adams Book Critique In the novel, Abigail Adams: A Revolutionary American Woman,
Charles Akers portrays the life of a strong, revolutionary woman named Abigail Adams. She was
known as the first lady of the United States under John Adams and she played an indirect role in
influencing the American Revolution. She is called one of the founders of the country for her
revolutionary thinking and her being a rights activist. Abigail Adamsfaced many hardships
throughout her life. She was the daughter of a minister and had two sisters and a brother. In the
1700 s, children did not have a high survival rate due to the amount of diseases and nothing to
treat them with. Abigail Adams said in her old age that she was always sick (Akers 5). This
reminds people how tough life was in the 1700 s and how easy it was to pass away from a mere
cold. Abigail also did not have any education growing up. Women, in the colonial era, were not
supposed to have an education and were supposed to watch the kids, cook, and clean. Readers of
this book learn that many women back then were illiterate and were self taught, if they had any
education. Abigail did find a love for literature due to her sister s spouse, Richard Cranch. He
influenced her love for literature at a young age and she started to become more literate. Along with
the disease and educational deficiency, women were considered as property. A young womancould

Summary Of Franz Kafka s Metamorphosis
ID # 3And it was like a confirmation of their new dreams and good intentions when at the end of
their ride, their daughter stood up first and stretched her young body. The last few lines of Franz
Kafka s, Metamorphosis, points out that Gregor is not the only one in the family that undergoes
changes of some kind. There are two other changes that have happened throughout the story. When
Gregor turns into the bug, his familyrealizes that he can no longer support them. Here it seems to
be like Gregor dying was an answer to their prayers. When it says, And it was like a confirmation
of their new dreams and good intentions, they could now move on with their lives and start
over. Since Gregor dies, his family realizes they would all have to get jobs. This made them feel
safe. His family went from being sad to being very happy with their new life. The other
transformation that happened was how Grete went from a little girl to a woman. When Grete
starts to take care of Gregor, she slowly starts to become more mature. The very last line of the
story, Their daughter stood up and stretched her young body, represents how she has a nice, young
body and she is mature enough to find a husband. She transformed into a woman, just as Gregor
transformed into a beetle, and his family into a happier one.

Poehler Antique Mall In Empori Unpacking The Object
1.Unpacking the Object
What is this object? An antique wooden chair
What does the object look like? Antique, old, worn wood. There are curvy edges on the backrest
portion. The wood is very worn on the seat part, and there is a lot of dust on the chair. The right
side of the chair is broken in a jagged break.
Where did you obtain this object? I found this at the Poehler Antique Mall in Emporia, KS. The
antique mall is located on Commercial Street.
Where can you find similar objects? At this antique store, there were tons of old chairs. You could
find more there. I would assume that a lot of antique stores have old pieces of furniture like this
chair. There are probably a lot of these types of chairs in older style homes. They could be found in
table and chair sets, or they could be possibly found in a church.
What is it made of? Wood and screws.
Who made it? Back in history the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found this object because I like upcycling. Taking old antique items and turning them into
something more modern and useful. I think restoring an object and making it personal to yourself.
Who or what does this object represent? I think this object represents middle class people. Often
the middle class is overlooked and are considered average. This chair is overlooked too because
it is a piece of furniture that almost everyone has, and we don t often think about how the chair
got there or how the chair was made. I think this is similar with a lot of people in the world.
Many people go unnoticed. I hope that by adding color to this old chair, will be like the colorful
personalities many people have, which makes them stand out above others.
What does this object mean to you? I became invested in this chair, I spent a lot of time and
money on this project. I hope the chair will add a new style to my room. It means something
special to me because I took something old and gave it a new look, but the object still does the same

Molloy Response Essay
Samuel Beckett s Molloy is divided into two parts. The first part begins with the narrator, Molloy,
who is being driven to write for an unknown reason and by an unknown person. At the end of the
first paragraph, Molloy says: Here is my beginning (Beckett 8). Molloy s account of what happens
isn t organized as a narrative; in a way; Molloyis Beckett s portrait of what would happen if
someone who didn t tell stories was compelled to tell one. He begins not even with the pseudo
quest of going to see his mother but with some observations of two people, A and C. From there,
he tells of the pleasures of being on his bicycle, which he says he will not call a bike. It is after
these accounts that he reveals a fraught relationship with his mother;... Show more content on

It wasn t until I listened to the audiobook while driving. I don t know what it is, but I think being
so concentrated on driving and listening to the story at the same time really helped me focus on
what the story was about. My opinion of the novel as a work of imaginative literature would be that
Molloy can be interpreted in many ways; some may have interpreted Molloy in a completely
different way than I did. Personally, I found the novel to have many depressing and unfortunate
events, but someone else may have thought of these events differently. Molloy is definitely one
of those novels that can have different meaning depending on who s reading it. I remember
listening to the novel while my boyfriend was asleep thinking to myself Oh man what in the
world is going on in this story? and once I put the recording on pause my boyfriend woke up and
asked me why did I turn it off because he was actually enjoying the novel in his sleep. I thought that

Midas Touch From Greek Mythology
My favorite Myth is The Midas Touch from greek Mythology. The Moral of the story is that
riches are not the most important thing in life. The way this myth goes is that a satyr a half man
half goat parties to hard one night and finds himself drunk. While he was drunk he fell asleep in a
rosebush of the Palace where the king Midaslives. While he was asleep the next morning Princess
Zoe went outside and found him sleeping there and thought he was a normal goat but in reality he
was a satyr and he was ugly.
The princess called the gardener over and told him to take the thing out but then king midas
appeared and saw the creature and wanted him to stay. For the next week king Midas had
treated the satyr as a high honored guest everyone was not fond of this especially since he
barged into the palace kitchens and demanded food and wine. All the while the king treated him
like any other one of the royal family no one knew why and no one really wanted to know. For
about a week everyone dealt with it but after that they decided to end it and they kicked the satyr

Low Voter Registration
One of the primary causes for low voter turnout in the United States is low voter registration. In
order to vote in state, local, or federal elections, citizens are required to be registered by a certain
date before the election. People can register in person, by visiting a state affiliated election facility,
or by mailing their registration forms, postmarked no later than the registration date. Additionally,
only 31 states including the District of Columbia give voters the option of registering online.
Considering this fact and that we are living in an age with great technological advances, 31 states
is far too few. Hence, New York s inability to modernize voter registration
and reach out to new
voters effectively lowers the number of registered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bad news is that all of these policies need to be approved by the state legislature which
notoriously has had a track a record for stalling and not allowing many of these changes to be
implemented. For instance, in 2014 the Democrat controlled State Assembly passed legislation
that would establish 2 weeks of early voting, but the Republican controlled State Senate blocked
the legislation from passing. Similarly, the battle for same day registration in the state legislature
has been ongoing since 1988, when current Governor Andrew Cuomo s father, Mario Cuomo
was the Governor of New York and had suggested making registration deadlines as late as
possible. He had also appointed a special task force to study voter turnout and come up with a
solution to resolve low voter turnout. The special task force ultimately proposed implementing
same day registration to the state legislature. The existing power struggle between Democrats and
Republicans in the state government have made it all, but impossible for voter registration reform.
However, New York s future looks bright as there are more and more state officials speaking up
and getting on board with many of the proposed registration

Introduction
In Spike Lee s Do the Right Thing, the story takes places in 1989, another year in the long
struggle for equality for African Americans. The film portrays the racial tensions between locals of
the neighborhood and an Italian American family in the majority Black and Hispanic neighborhood
of Bedford Stuyvesant (Bed Stuy) in Brooklyn, New York. Spike Lee shows us what a day in the
life of the Brooklyn neighborhood consists of and throughout the movie he portrays several
different aspects of a modern urban neighborhood, using the many unique personalities of the
characters in the movie.
Plot Summary

Jade and works as a delivery man at a local pizza shop, Sal s Famous Pizzeria. Sal is the Italian
American owner of the pizza shop where Mookie works along with Pino and Vito, Sal s sons.
Mookie and Vito are friends, but Pino is portrayed to be prejudice towards Black people. Pino

Chen. Tang Lung has been sent to Italy to help with a problem at Ms. Chen s restaurant, the
problem being thugs that want her to sell her property. The restaurant has been losing business
due to the thugs scaring away the customer. This is where Tang Lung comes to rescue, he is the
hero that comes in and saves the day. He gets rid of the thugs and manages to save the restaurant
from being sold. As seen in the, Way of the Dragon, Tang Lung s profile is that of a smaller
framed Chinese man, who saves the day with his Chinese boxing. This example ties in and
reveals some ideas of race because it goes against the White Knight Theory that all the heroes
must consist of being Caucasian, tall and muscular. Throughout the evolution of Bruce s life and
his movies, much ideas of gender are also portrayed in many several ways. An idea of gender,
specifically female gender roles can be viewed by analyzing his first movie, The Big Boss. In
The Big Boss, the female role of Chiao Mei portrays how women and what role they played in
society back in that time. Out of the entire family of different cousins, which predominantly
composed of males, Chiao Mei is the only female in the household. Her character in the movie
plays a role of a typical household wife, who cooks, cleans, and serves all the males. She also

throughout the movie with her actions. An example of this can be seen

Everyone is faced with struggles throughout their life; however people find their own unique
ways to thrive through hardships. In the short story Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst you learn about a
child named Doodle born with a medical condition but through not giving up, being brave,
working hard, he was able to overcome some challenges. Only, to be pushed too far to death by his
older brother who did not want to pull his brother in a wagon.
With a family already preparing to bury this little baby boy in a coffin before he would see three
months Doodle has other ideas of when his life will come to an end. Wanting nothing else in the
world the narrator wanted a brother who was just as athletically capable as him, only with great
fight would that be possible. Everyone from the family knew that he would never be all straight
in the head. However, one afternoon as I watched him him, my head poked between the iron
post of the foot of the bed, he looked straight at me, and grinned. I skipped through the rooms,
down the echoing halls, shouting, Mama, he smiled. He s all there! He s all there! and he was.

Challenges Faced By The Crowd Funding
CROWD FUNDING As a young Indian, I always want India to be filled with people of new
innovative, creative and productive ideas and thoughts. And I strongly believe that if these
thoughts can be made into actions with the advancements in Information technology, it can heal
India s soaring problems like unemployment, illiteracy to an extent. But recent reports on India s
ease of doing business rankings is very alarming. Even after 20 years of economic reforms, India
slipped from 131st position in 2013 to 134th position in 2014.Among BRICS countries, India is
doing the worst. And among the issues faced by Small, Medium Enterprises which includes
startups, credit issues is a main concern. In a recent secondary research done by me in finding
credit issues of SMEs, results showed that out of all SMEs, 92.77% have no financeor self finance.
This has really affected the growth of SMEs in India. Even after increase in number of venture
capitalists/angel investors to protect new ideas, this result shows that time has been exceeded to
find a sustainable solution for this issue.
It is said that: The mob rushes in where individuals fear to tread by B.F. Skinner in Walden
Two.This has proved true, with the arrival of new idea of financing: Crowd Funding . Crowd
funding is: the collective cooperation, attention and trust by people who network and pool their

  • 2. Sulphuric Acid Production Should Not Be Banned Essay example Sulphuric Acid Production Should Not Be Banned Background Information Acids and bases are chemical compounds with certain properties, and are classified according to several different definitions. There are clear distinctions between the two types of compounds, and although they share some similarities in their physical and chemical properties, their uses and applications vary greatly. Acidscan be described as having a sour taste, producing hydronium ions in water, forming a salt and water when reacted with a base and having a pH of less than 7. In contrast, bases follow the descriptions that; they taste bitter, produce hydroxide anions in water, feel soapy slippery and have a pH of more than 7. There are three chemistry based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1. Strong acid + strong base пѓ Salt + water e.g. HNO3 + LiOH пѓ LiNO3 + H2O In this reaction, the products are always a salt and water. The salt, in a reaction between a strong acid a strong base, always has a pH of 7.00. The produced ions will not react with the H2O. 2. Strong acid + weak base пѓ Salt e.g. H2SO4 + NH3 пѓ (NH4)2SO4 Usually, reactions between strong acids and weak bases do not result in water being formed, and instead only a salt is produced. This is because weak bases usually do not have hydroxide ions. 3. Weak acid + strong base пѓ Salt + water e.g. HNO2 + NaOH пѓ NaNO2 + H2O The reaction between a weak acid and a strong base results in the production of a basic salt, i.e. a salt with pH 7, and water. 4. Weak acid + weak base пѓ Salt e.g. HNO2 + HN3 пѓ NH4NO2 The pH of the solution formed from the reaction of a weak acid with a weak base depends on the relative strengths of the reactants. For example, if the acid HClO has a Ka of 3.4 x 10 8 and the base NH3 has a Kb = 1.6 x 10 5, then the aqueous solution of HClO and NH3will be basic because the Ka of HClO is less than the Ka of NH3. (Helmenstine, 2004) Production of Sulphuric Acid Sulphuric acid, in its anhydrous form, cannot naturally occur on Earth; however, the natural formation of sulphuric acid does occur, rarely, in a few different circumstances. One natural occurrence of sulphuric acid happens due to the sulphur dioxide gas produced by volcanoes. Sulphur ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Character And Theme In Rip Van Winkle In Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle, Rip s character is closely correlated with the theme of nature and its prominence over the ever changing world. The story is set in the Kaatskill Mountains, an important setting with a luminance that does not falter throughout. Similarly, Rip is immediately described as a respectable and well liked man in his mountainous setting. Right off the bat, the two can be easily associated. The magical elements in the story cause Rip to fall asleep for twenty years, and upon waking, he is in a world completely changed by the progression of time. However, despite the extreme alterations, only Rip and the nature that he is so familiar with are able to prevail, remaining ultimately unaffected by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Almost as soon as the grand setting is told, the designation of the story itself, the character Rip Van Winkle, is introduced. He is depicted ideally as well, said to be simple and widely liked, and most importantly good natured. Without hesitation, it is stated that he is a descendant of a family who played a more than respectable role in the history that helped to capture and establish the land that is now his mountainous village. He is recognized as more than the average citizen already, perhaps one of great influence, not unlike the nature itself. He was, moreover, a kind neighbor and an obedient henpecked husband. Indeed, to the latter circumstance might be owing that meekness of spirit which gained him such universal popularity, (Irving 702). Despite this constant distressing of his spouse, made eminent in the opening pages, Rip was able to ignore the chronic squabbling and seek elsewhere for loyal friendships, which in turn, boosted his regard. After some time, however, the nagging became overbearing, and he was forced to flee to the highest peak of the mountains where he would be surrounded by nature, and thus was at ease with himself. However, Irving introduces a twist; the nature of the mountains cast a magical command upon Rip and forced him into a sound sleep for twenty years. When he awoke Rip found himself an old man in a place that was, at first, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Reciprocity And Kawelka Relationship The act of reciprocity, the mutual act of giving and receiving; giving more than you are taking. A quote that really captures the true meaning of reciprocity is, People gave with the expectation of taking and took with the expectation of giving (Harris 1989). This is seen across many different cultures and time periods. Nevertheless, they are not all the same, and may not generate equivalent types of relationships, for social and personal value. In this essay we will look at two separate acts of reciprocity; how they work, and what they provide. First, a look into the Gebusi sister exchange, and then into the Kawelka s moka ceremony. Everyone desires connection, whether that be through friendships or sexual relations. Community and the desire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among the Kawelka tribe, reciprocity serves as a way of gaining prestige and shaming rivals (Cronk 1988). This form of exchange serves as way of social superiority. Their ritual is called the moka; this is a very important ceremony to their tribe. The reason why Ongka so wanted to give his big moka, is that only by giving can he earn fame and status for his tribe and for him (Niarn 1974). The moka ceremony is a formal interaction in which one man gives more than he received from another, as a pay back of debt, as well as a trump to their social status. However, the return of the moka cannot happen after a long period of time, doing so immediately would serve as a desire to cut the strings and end the relationship. It is expected that the debt will be repaid when the time comes, if it is not the one who has not repaid the debt will lose their support and status as a big man . The goal of the moka is to eventually become a big man , also known as a tribal leader (Cronk 1988). After one big moka was thrown by Ongka, that included several hundreds of pigs, a truck, thousands of dollars and more, he told the recipient of his moka, I have won. I have knocked you down by giving so much (Cronk 1988; Nairn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Legacy Of Darius The Great Darius I ,also known as Darius the Great, was the third king who reigned from 550 486 BCE during the Achaemenid Empire. While he lived, Darius held the empire at its peak, which stretched from the river Nile and parts of Northern Greece to the Indus River Valley. One of the most major events in Darius s life was his expedition to discipline Athens and Eretria for their support in the Ionian Revolt. He made his empire larger by vanquishing Thrace and Macedon, and occupying Scythia. He also arranged his empire, by splitting it into provinces and placing governors to rule over it. Darius organized a new financial system, along with making Aramaic the official language of the empire. He further worked on establishment projects throughout the empire. Darius also formulated a codification of laws for Egypt. He order the carving of the cliff face Behistun Inscription, an autobiography of great modern linguistic significance. Darius also started many massive architectural projects including magnificent palaces in Persepolis, and Susa. Darius was born as the eldest of five sons to a leading figure of power in Persia named Hystaspes. Herodotus of Halicarnassus wrote that after a dream that seemed to predict Darius reign, King Cyrus became suspicious of the son of Hystaspes, who was about twenty at that time and had been left behind in Persia because he was too young for war (Herodotus) . • 7. Essay On Sekou Sundiata Many times I have struggled to express myself. A plethora of ideas would be trapped inside my head. Sometimes I would be at a loss of words and couldn t explain my thoughts verbally or on paper. No matter how much effort I put in, my words wandered off and I could find no method of portraying my emotions. After many failed attempts, I finally found something that could express what I feel and what I want others to feel. It s music. Performance poet, Sekou Sundiata, is able to clearly express himself in a way where others can understand him by incorporating poetry with music. Both Sundiata and I were searching for a way to share our life experiences in a creative yet understandable format; we accomplished that through music. In the film... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Sundiata changes his tone of voice, sometimes it s too low that you cannot hear him or it s too high which hinders ones hearing. Also, the way he uses the microphone disrupts the cleanliness of his voice. If the microphone is too close to his mouth it may sound scratchy. If it s is too far away then it s difficult to hear him. Lastly, Sundiata changes the speed of his voice frequently. For example, in Sundiata s poem Space from The Circle Unbroken is a Hard Bop, he is speaking extremely fast and it s hard to catch his words. As a result, the audience is unable to comprehend his words, which lead to failure of drawing a connection to his poems. These magic tricks seem superfluous and revoke his audience from understanding his words. Although this supports the idea that Sekou Sundiata is not able to clearly connect with his audience, there are more ways he does connect with them. Sundiata s magic tricks help him connect with the viewers because they draw attention. He also connects really well with his audience by reflecting on his past. Sundiata talks about human rights and black freedom which relates and interests many people. Lastly, he reflects on his childhood in Harlem which many people who grew up at that time and place could relate to as well. • 9. Theme Of Oedipus Rex And The Kite Runner Over the history of man, stories have been told in many fashions, but even through all that time some basic elements of storytelling hold true. For example, even though Oedipus Rex and The Kite Runner were written hundreds of years and hundreds of miles apart, they still have similarities. They both use irony, suspense and other writing methods to present a story in an entertaining and thought provoking way. Also, between the two books they share major themes. The Kite Runner and Oedipus Rex share the theme of guiltand shame, as illustrated in the stories ironies, climax, and by the protagonist actions. Both stories are full of ironies that contribute to the guilt and shame theme. Oedipus Rex is a prime example of using dramatic irony to drive a story. Since the audience back when the drama was released, they would have known the outcome of the story. So, throughout the story the audience knows that he is guilty, as Oedipus follows down a path that will lead to this horrific realization. Much of this dramatic irony is what makes the guilt he feels at the end all the more painful, for the audience wishes does not find out. Also Oedipus s own accusations and condemnation against those guilty of the murder is ironic when he discovers that he is guilty. Likewise, The Kite Runner uses irony to further Amir s grief. The biggest form of irony in the book is the fact that Hassan was Amir s half brother. This adds an additional level of shame for Amir. Now, not only does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is the only American dramatist to ever win the Nobel Prize for literature. Before Breakfast is set in the Greenwich Village section of New York City, in a small one room flat on Christopher Street. The flat consists of a kitchen and dinning area. There are only two characters in this drama. Mrs. Roland who is the only speaking character and her husband Alfred. Alfred s hand is seen once in the play, but not much else. Mrs. Rowland, the protagonist, is portrayed as the stereotypical nagging wife. While a flat character, she is very realistic. Her level of diction implies her lack of education, she is also bitter towards her husband. Her bitterness is not unfounded. Alfred is of no help, Heaven knows I do my part and more going out sewing every day while you play the gentleman and loaf around bar rooms with that good for nothing lot of artists from the Square (Jacobs 1211). Mrs. Rowland s husband is adulterous and can not hold down a job. Mrs. Rowland loves her husband, although she does not like the way he treats her. She exhibited love by continually enabling him, paying the rent, providing food, and cleaning up after him. She regards Alfred s depression as laziness. Not that I ve got any doubts about your being lazy enough to stay in bed forever (Jacobs 1211). After learning Alfred s lover Helen, is pregnant, her frustration and disappointments only intensify. The Verbermockle Murder The Cold Blooded Murder of Mr. Verbermockle 54.3 percent of murder victims were killed by someone they knew (acquaintance, neighbor, friend, boyfriend, etc.), 24.8 percent were killed by a family member. The evidence shows that this is logically the case in the Verbermockle murder mystery. After allegedly finding Mrs. Verbermockle s husband unconscious on the bathroom floor, Mrs. Verbermockle calls her family doctor. In this paper I will discuss the aspects of a healing hospital, its relationship to spirituality, the challenges of creating a healing environment, and finally the biblical aspects of a healing hospital. What is a Healing Hospital? A healing hospital is a place that is patient centric and focuses on making the patient relaxed and allow healing in a peaceful environment. The three aspects of a healing hospital include a quiet environment, integrating technology into care, and providing compassionate care to patients. These components are beneficial to both hospital staff and patients. By providing a noise free environment caregivers are less apt to get distracted (Eberst, 2008, pg. 78). When hospital staff have a calm environment where they can think through situations, the right decision is more likely to be made. Distractions can be detrimental to the health of a patient. This is a highly controversial aspect of the Affordable Care Act that is currently up for debate. Under the latest version of the GOP tax reform bill, the individual mandate is up for elimination. Eliminating the individual mandate would ultimately cause healthier people to opt out of healthcare insurance. This would leave only unhealthy people being the ones who purchase health insurance, which in the long run would lead to higher healthcare costs. • 25. Review Of Robert Mundell s Trilemma Essay Section I: Exchange Rates Paper Robert Mundell s Trilemma, also known as the Impossible Trinity, states that a nation cannot realize monetary policy autonomy, free capital movements, and exchange rate stability at the same time. While either of the two goals can combine and actualize in any given period, as a simultaneous and three fold effort, each objective cannot coexist. Together they are simply incompatible. Thus, and holding true to the tradeoff nature of economics, Mundell s undisputed theory illustrates that in order for a nation to attain its preferred monetary goals it must give up one desired option. Nevertheless, it is no easy decision. Before any resolution is made, nations must invest substantial time and energy into understanding the consequences at stake because the policies that they do deicide to implement are not only felt at a national or international level but personally amongst those that they govern. To exemplify the tradeoffs that define the Trilemma s policy combinations, consider a nation with a long history of high inflation and a central bank that has limited credibility. Bearing in mind that low inflation is a primary macroeconomic goal amongst world powers and likened to symbolize economic stability, would not the aim of the nation be to promote steady financial growth through deflation? And while the costs of inflation are substantially high on their own, when coupled with uncertainty produced by an unreliable central bank the costs are only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Active Aging Essay Active aging is defined as the maintenance of positive subjective well being, good physical, social and mental health and continued involvement in one s family, peer group and community throughout the aging process (Hofer, 2016, p.1). Active aging promotes the vision of all individuals regardless of age, socioeconomic status or health fully engaging in life within all seven dimensions of wellness: emotional, environmental, intellectual/cognitive, physical, professional/vocational, social and spiritual ( What is Active Aging, 2017). Active does not just refer to the ability to participate in the workforce or be physically active. Older people who are ill, live with disabilities, and/or are retired from work can still be active participants in the lives of their families, peers, and communities. The goal of active aging is to extend healthy life and the quality of life for people as they age ( Active Ageing: A Policy Framework, 2002). The active ageing approach is based on the recognition of the human rights of older people and the United Nations Principles of independence, participation, dignity, care and self fulfillment. The Characteristics Of The Inner Planets In The Solar System The Solar System A solar system is defined as a star together with a group of celestial bodies that are held by its attraction and revolve around it. Our specific solar system contains the inner planets, the outer planets, and other celestial bodies like moons, comets, and asteroids. All of these things revolve around the sun in repeating cycles and add to the to beauty of the place in which we live, Earth which is the only life sustaining inner planet. The Inner Planets are the planets that are closest to the sun. These planets include Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars, which are made of solid, dense rock. Even though these planets are composed of similar materials, they all have unique characteristics that set them apart from other planets. Mercury is the first planet in the solar system. It was named after the Roman messenger god because it has the fastest orbit around the sun. Mercury is also the smallest planet in our solar system with a diameter of only 3,031 miles. Because Mercury is so small, its gravitational pull is very weak. Mercury s atmosphere is so small that it can be compared to artificial vacuums of earth. Because the atmosphere is so thin, its temperature differs greatly between day and night. The average temperature on Mars during the day is 800В°F and at night it is 350В°F. Through his themes, contrasts, and symbolism, McCourt creates a memoir that remains with the reader and teaches us all about the circumstances of life that he faced growing up in Limerick, Ireland. A red light, what OSU was rated, means that the institution has at least one policy that clearly and substantially restricts freedom of speech. Other causes of respiratory acidosis can be chest injuries (that cause the chest to not be able to rise enough for normal respirations), abuse or overuse of sedative or depressive type drugs (which slows the breathing rate), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (which causes damage of lung tissue over time, making full breathes impossible). Some of the symptoms that can occur in a person that is in respiratory acidosis can be that the person is confused, has shortness of breath, has skin that is red or flushed, and fatigue . There are several treatments for respiratory acidosis. Most include processes that are designed to aid a person s lungs or breathing. In some instances, a patient might be given oxygen or be put on a continuous positive airway pressure(CPAP) device . The CPAP device will push a continuous flow of air into the lungs which helps to open the alveoli in the lungs which will improve oxygenation. CPAP also is very useful for a constricted airway or a person with muscle weakness because it keeps the airway open which will assist in the person being able to maintain a more normal respiratory ... Healthcare s Application of Petronio s Communication Privacy Management Theory Communication privacy management theory (CPM) developed by Sandra Petronio in 1991, is a theory about how people make decisions regarding how they reveal and/or conceal their private information. CPM functions on the premise that individuals maintain and manage privacy boundaries in their interpersonal communications depending on the perceived weight of ones benefit and cost of disclosure (Bridge Schrodt, 2013). The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how CPM through the use of three operational theories plays a significant role in our lives and our interpersonal communications. At its core are three operational theories that act as guiding principles, they are simple in nature and easily defined how ownership forms personal rules for disclosure; how we coordinate and control disclosure and relational turbulence that occurs when individual boundary rules are at odds (Griffin, 2009, p. 121). We will explore each theory and provide real life applications utilizing examples of how healthcare organizations and providers use CPM in their practice. She was known as the first lady of the United States under John Adams and she played an indirect role in influencing the American Revolution. She is called one of the founders of the country for her revolutionary thinking and her being a rights activist. Abigail Adamsfaced many hardships throughout her life. She was the daughter of a minister and had two sisters and a brother. In the 1700 s, children did not have a high survival rate due to the amount of diseases and nothing to treat them with. Abigail Adams said in her old age that she was always sick (Akers 5). This reminds people how tough life was in the 1700 s and how easy it was to pass away from a mere cold. Abigail also did not have any education growing up. Women, in the colonial era, were not supposed to have an education and were supposed to watch the kids, cook, and clean. Readers of this book learn that many women back then were illiterate and were self taught, if they had any education. Abigail did find a love for literature due to her sister s spouse, Richard Cranch. He influenced her love for literature at a young age and she started to become more literate.
