The Beatles Sgt. Pepper Essay
Sergeant Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band, recorded in 1967, is to date the number one Rock
and Roll album ever recorded. Sgt. Pepper s is considered to be the first concept album. There are
many things that brought about the creation of The Beatles most influential album. Before The
Beatlesbegan the recording process of Sgt. Pepper s they had retired from touring. This gave the
group ample time to experiment with different instruments, recording techniques and drugs. The
album cover also sparked a revolution in itself. Many bands took notice of the creative elements of
Sgt. Pepper s and learned from them. The Beatles had been touring virtually nonstop since they
came to America. The band decided to call it quits after their 1966... Show more content on

The wah wah pedal is now a standard for all rock musicians. As a result of The Beatles being the
number one band in the world, they had access to the industries latest recording tools. Perhaps
one of the most important recording tools used by the band in recording was automatic double
tracking or ADT. This device allowed the band to flawlessly double any given sound. ADT was
used mostly on vocals to enhance the sound of the singer. The Beatles also used an innovative
tool known as the Dolby noise reduction system (Dolby NRS). This device reduced the build up
of noise during the over dubbing process. Dolby NRS is still widely used in the field of music
recording. In an effort to find a new sound, The Beatles cracked open an amplifier and put a fan
inside. Just as talking into a fan distorts a voice, the band found that it has the same effect on an
instrument. Many of the sounds were added onto the tracks randomly which makes the album
virtually impossible to rerecord or perform live. Drugs played a role in the recording of Sgt.
Pepper s. The group was notoriously known to experiment with the drugs LSD and Marijuana. The
entire album has debatable drug references, but the one thing that can not be argued is that the
entire group was high on these drugs throughout the recording process. The record has many sounds
that will be used later in the psychedelic

The Negative Consequences Of Noise Pollution
Ahmed Sami Hassan
Dr. Clark
ENG 1101
06 June 2015 Noise Pollution What is the Noise Pollution? The term noise pollution used to define
unwanted sounds that come from many sources such as barking dogs, loud music; vehicles, aircraft
and rail transport; air conditioners, factories; amplified music and construction work released into
the environment. Noise pollution has adverse effects on both human health and environment.
One of the most obvious negative consequences of prolonged exposure to noise is hearing loss.
Studies show that people who have been regularly exposed to intense noise, due to the nature of
their work, have decreased hearing sensibility, compared to those who have worked in more quiet
conditions. The most disturbing source of noise pollution stems from traffic (Healthy Hearing).
Elevated sound levels cause changes in the structure of the inner ear which results in irreversible
hearing loss.
The Studies found any sound levels crosses the 70dB mark; it becomes noise for the ear. Noise
levels above 80 decibels produce damaging effects to the ear. When ear is exposed to extreme
loud noise (above 100 decibels) for a considerable period of time, it can cause irreparable damage
and lead to permanent hearing loss. Sleep Disturbances is one of the noise pollution effects that
can deter your overall well being. Noise can interrupt a good night s sleep, and when this occurs,
the person feels extremely annoyed and uncomfortable. People deprived of uninterrupted sleep
show a sharp dip in their energy levels which often results into extreme fatigue. This can
considerably decrease a person s ability to work efficiently. Noise pollution may also lead to
mental health problems. Exposure to loud sound can result in elevated stress levels as well as
stimulate violent behavior. A constant noise in the vicinity can also trigger headaches, make people
tense and anxious, and disturb emotional balance. Another effect of noise pollution is on
cardiovascular issues. Studies have shown that high intensity sound cause a dramatic rise in blood
pressure as noise levels constrict the arteries, disrupting the blood flow. The heart rate (the number
of heartbeats per minute) also increases. These sudden abnormal changes in

The Human Papillomavirus ( Hpv ) Essay
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the
United States among teens and young adults (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
2015). HPV is known to attack epithelial cells and as many as 75% to 80% of males and females
can become infected in their lifetime (Merck Sharp Dohme Corp., 2012). There are many
different strains some of which cause no symptoms and others that can cause genital warts, as well
as various types of oropharyngeal and/or anogenital cancers. There are currently three vaccines
licensed by the FDA since 2006 Cervarix, Gardasil, and Gardasil 9. These vaccines are a 3 dose
series recommended for routine use among girls and boys at ages 11 and 12, and ages 13 26 for
those who have not previously been infected. Although these vaccines do not protect against all
HPV strains, they do protect against the two most common high risk (cancer causing) strains
types 16 and 18. In addition to preventing types 16 and 18, the Gardasil vaccine protects against
the two most common low risk (genital warts causing) strains and the Gardasil 9 vaccine protects
against five additional cancer causing strains, as well as the other strains previously mentioned.
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015)The purpose of the Bauldur Felskov et al
(2014) study was to assess the efficacy of the HPV vaccineagainst cervical lesions by comparing the
incidence trends before and after the vaccination program was first implemented.

How Did Pythagoras Influence The Ancient World
Pythagoras was from c. 580 B.C. c. 500 B.C., known as Pythagoras of Samos. He was a famous
Greek philosopher, religious leader, and mathematician best known for his work on geometry is
the Pythagorean theorem, a^2+b^2=c^2. He and his followers created a secret society which was
known as the Pythagoreans. They explored, discovered, and proved a lot of the principles, ideas,
and concepts of mathematics. Pythagoraswas an excellent man who made many important
discoveries in different areas of mathematics and science. Those discoveries influenced the ancient
world as well as today. And, people continue to apply them today.

It states that for any right triangle, the square of the hypotenuse length c is equal to the sum of the
squares on the two shorter leg lengths a and b which is written as a^2+b^2=c^2 (Pickover, 2009, p.
40). An ancient Chinese text on mathematics, the Chou Pei also gives an evidence that the Chinese
knew about the Pythagorean theorem many years before Pythagoras or one of his followers
(Joseph, 2000, p. 180). The Pythagorean discovered and first proved it, so that the theorem is
named after Pythagoras.
Pythagoras Proof:
Let a and b be the legs, and c be the hypotenuse of the given right triangle. Each big square below
has a+b as its side. The left big square is separated into six pieces. They are the two squares one
with a as its side and one with b as its side, and four right triangles congruent to the given triangle.
The right big square is separated into five pieces. They are the square with the hypotenuse, c as its
side and four right triangles congruent to the given triangle. Then we write out the area for each
big square. Since they have congruent sides, they areas will be congruent (Head, 1997, p.

This Face Changes The Human Story Analysis
Since Naledi has human and australopithecines features I think she should be placed 2 3 million
years ago. I believe Naledi was an early Homo that was in the early stages of the body evolving. In
the article This Face Changes the Human Story. But How? it states that Parts of the skeletons
looked astonishingly modern. But others were just as astonishingly primitive in some cases, even
more apelike than the australopithecines. That means that in that certain group you had a mix of
modern humanlooking and ape like creatures. They were most likely fond of each other like a
family which is why they put them in what seems a burial site. If it is a burial site, then it must
have been in that area for quite some time. Once all the bones were laid

This is a risk that can be understood and managed with proper thought and investment. Political
risks are the complications businesses and governments may face as a result of political
decisions or any political change that changes the expected outcome and value of a given
economic action by changing the probability of achieving business objectives. Political risk
faced by firms can be defined as the risk of a strategic, financial, or personnel loss for a firm
because of such nonmarket factors as macroeconomic and social policies (fiscal, monetary, trade,
investment, industrial, income, labour, and developmental), or events related to political
instability (terrorism, riots, coups, civil war, and insurrection). For a business, the implication for
political risk is that there is a measure of likelihood that political events may complicate its pursuit
of earnings through direct impacts (such as taxes or fees) or indirect impacts (such as opportunity
cost forgone). As a result, political risk is similar to an expected value such that the likelihood of a
political event occurring may reduce the desirability of that investment by reducing its anticipated
returns. There are both macro and micro level political risks. Macro level political risk looks at non
project specific risks. Types of risk include government currency actions, regulatory changes,
sovereign credit defaults, corruption, war declarations and government

Tone, Symbols In Sylvia Plath s Poem, Daddy
In Sylvia Plath s free verse poem, Daddy, she describes her hatred towards her deceased father.
Plath uses tone, figures of speech, and symbols to illustrate her extreme anger and female protest
towards the man that raised her. Sylvia Plath has a dark, bitter tone in Daddy. She recalls all the
pain that her father has put her through, even after his death. The hatred in her tone deepens
throughout the poem. She starts by explaining that when she was twenty [she] tried to die/And get
back, back, back to [her father] (Plath 58 59), but by saying Daddy, daddy, you bastard, I m through.
(Plath, 80), she declares her disgust. It is apparent that Plath has frustration towards men, claiming

Plath uses allusions to the former dictator of Germany, Hitler, in her poem Daddy . She
describes her dad with words such as Luftwaffe (Plath 42), Aryan eye, bright blue (Plath 44), and
German tongue (Plath 16), connecting him to the Nazis. She illustrates her father having a neat
mustache (Plath 43), which is similar to Hitler s infamous mustache. Plath uses sarcasm by
saying that Every woman adores a Fascist, / The boot in the face, the brute/ Brute heart of a brute
like you. (Plath 48 50), joking that women love the controlling wicked men like Hitler. She also
compares her father to the devil himself. She looks at a picture she has of him, and describes A
cleft in [her father s] chin instead of [his] foot/ But no less a devil for that (Plath 53 54),
connecting the cleft in his chin to a cleft in a hoof of the Devil. Lastly, she models the man she
was with for Seven years, if you want to know (Plath 74) as a vampire. Plath states that this man
drank [her] blood for a year (Plath 73), draining and dominating her just as a vampire would do
with his victims. She compares her father to a vampire as well, saying, There s a stake in [his] fat
black heart (Plath 76), destroying him just as it would a blood sucking

with a giant wave of international airline capacity with a 46% increase in competitor capacity
since 2009. Three main competition was Virgin Australia as they were trying to expand their fleet
during that year, so Qantas lost some customers who went to fly with Virgin instead. This could
possibly have to do with the Malaysian airline plane MH370 which went missing. Passengers could

Korean Wave

of people who belong to a particular cultural group. This interview is carried out to understand
their perception of the sub culture. The people chosen for this oral interview are Helen Xu who
comes from China and Hana Yamata who comes from Japan, and both of them are big fans of
Korean culture. In order to present their experiences of Korean Wave, this paper will be divided

This culture is often called individualism. Moreover, Hofstede (1980), noted that power distance
in a culture, which means the difference between the lowest and highest member. Highest member
refer to a person or a group always makes the decision; people who always have input is belong to
lowest member. For example, Korean drama considers family oriented stories in which father has
the power in the family, and other members of family usually defer to him. However, in Western
society, parents cultivate their child to be more creative, and give them more freedom to choose
their future education and career. Therefore, In Western culture, a child can make such decisions
himself, while, in Korean culture, children are more likely to defer to their father. Futhurmoer,
Western modernity and Asian traditions has formed striking comparison. In 18 century, Western
societies had rised the evolution of post modernity that suggests the end of original culture, art,
subject and history. The production of post modernity includes the internet, cars, digital computers
and so on (Venn Featherstone, 2006, p.462). Modernity refers a new way of lifestyle and social
system. Asian traditions advocate the beliefs, rituals, morals, values and customers in which human
being have been passed down from their ancestors (O Shannessy Minett, 2008, p.33). Especially,
Taoism and Confucianism have had a profound impact on Asian socities, such

NCAA Athletic Salaries
NCAA Athletic Salaries In today s society many athletes are being advertised by their schools!
This is happening so that the school can produce more money. However with all of this
advertising, what does the athlete get in return? This question is the ongoing talk of the NCAA.
Should athletes get paid an annual salary or should they resist this idea? Many big time athletes
on the collegiate level are being used to make more of a profit for their respected schools. Due
to this there has been an uproar of whether the athletes should get a pay for their names being
used. As an athlete of the NCAA I strongly agree on athletes getting a deferred payment of $5,000.

(Solomon 1) In the NCAA there are many laws that prevent the athletes from doing certain things.
These laws are called the Laws of Amateurism . In general, amateurism requirements do not allow
salary for participating in athletics, or prize money above actual or necessary expenses (NCAA
Center). However Judge Claudia Wilken partially granted class action status in a lawsuit concerning
the use of college athletes names and likenesses. U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken ruled the
plaintiffs, including former and current Division I men s basketball players and Football Bowl
Subdivision players, will be allowed to challenge the NCAA s current restrictions on what athletes
might receive in exchange for playing sports. The ruling sets up the prospect of a fundamental
change in scholarship rules and the concept of amateurism (Berkowitz 3). This would help athletes
to be able to fight for the compensated pay. Another reason athletes should get deferred payments
is because, it could eliminate the problem of Under the Table Money being taken. Under the Table
Money is the money athletes get from fans or other supporters for their good performance. The
allowance of the annual salary will give the athletes reason

Neil Armstrong Accomplishments
Neil Armstrong: From Planes to Rockets Neil Armstrong s love for anything that could fly in the
air was clearly evident. Armstrong achieved things that most people could only dream of, and did
them in a calm and humble way. Although Neil Armstrong is recognized as the first man to ever set
foot on the moon, he would spend the rest of his life setting many goals for the space and aviation
programs. These goals would certainly show the greatness of mankind and how far we have come.
Armstrong s achievements proved to be a bright spot at the end of the difficult decade of the 1960 s
during which American suffered the murder of a president, the Vietnam War, and a lot violence.
Neil Armstrong was born into a middle class family that moved around a lot when he was
younger. On August 5th, 1930 in the little town of Wapakoneta, Ohio Stephen and Viola
Armstrong gave birth to their newborn son Neil. Neil s father was a state auditor, who traveled
the state s counties to examine their financial records. Since it took around a whole year to audit
each county s books, Armstrong and his family moved quite often. As a young boy Neil had a
very exciting and adventurous life but would develop a sense of security and calmness. During his
younger years Neil became very interested in planes. At 2 years old, 1932 Armstrong went to the

British Columbia s Coastal Temperate Waters
British Columbia s coastal temperate waters are known to be highly productive marine
environments. Primary production plays the largest role in these environments, and is dictated by
geophysical fluids in the vertical and horizontal directions (Camargo et al., 2014).It is especially
important to study and understand the characteristics of these oceanographic profiles, as it is this
primary production that will have large impacts on species diversity and marine food web
assemblages. Saanich Inlet, Satellite Channel, and Haro Strait are all located in close proximity
on the Southern tip of Vancouver Island, B.C. Saanich Inlet is a long fjord with a width of 7.2
kilometers, and is characterized by its deep, 215 meter basin. It is here, that hypoxic to anoxic
waters are found, which are uniquely replenished with oxygenrich waters on an annual basis
during the late summer and early fall (Anderson and Devol, 1973). Because of it s sheltered
orientation on a North to South axis, Saanich Inlet receives very little wind and tidal mixing, giving
it a sturdy, stratified water column wherein phytoplankton blooms are able to thrive during spring
and many other parts of the year, further contributing to the anoxic deep waters (Gargett et al.,
2003). This deep basin in Saanich Inlet rises up to a shallower sill located at the North end of the
fjord, which leads to Satellite Channel. Satellite Channel is known to have increased nutrient
concentrations at the surface year round

Incident Management Case Study
Since the early 1800 s the Federal government has been involved with assisting local disasters by
supplying financial assistance to those communities that had been destroyed by fire. A fire rippled
through a New Hampshire town in 1803, and that was the first instance of Federal government
assistance after a local disaster. Throughout the years, legislation has continued to provide funding
to areas that have been devastated by fire.
In 1934, the Flood Control Act was birthed into legislation. The Flood Control Act allowed the U.
S. Army Corps of Engineers to develop control of the design, as well as construct build flood control
projects. In March 2004, the Department of Homeland Security permitted the National Incident

It has caused delayed response time to fires. There have been individuals injured as well as lives
being lost. The quality of life will be lessened and the risk of life will be much greater. If a fire
department is closed, that would mean that extra pressure would be placed on the remaining
opened fire departments. Overload would be intact and the stress level of the firefighters will
increase. Because of budget cuts and the closing of some fire stations, and the laying off of
firefighters and civilians, the 9 1 1 calls will not stop, the calls will continue to come. And again,
that will place pressure on the remaining fire departments and its firefighters. Early intervention
can possibly sot the escalation or it could certainly de escalate a fire. With that in mind, it will in
turn commence to saving lives and property. Travel time plays a critical role in responding to a

budget cuts and the next fire station was located 8 miles away, the chances for injuries, loss of
property, or even death is much

Aggression In Martha Stewart And Everybody Loves Raymond
On the television there is way too much negativity that influence the youth and adults mind when
we do not even know what is going on. The three television programs I observed had the
following: physical, verbal, and relational (bullying). In the television show Martha Stewart she
had few aggression in her show. In The Fairly Oddparents, it had way more aggressionthan Martha
Stewart and Everybody Loves Raymond. Now Everybody Loves Raymond has fewer more tv
agressions than Martha Stewart. What is put on the televisionfor the young and adults has an affect

The show Martha Stewart had not so much physical aggression in the show. When it came to
verbal there was a lot more aggression there. The relational (bullying) was less than the verbal
aggression. There was only two tally mark that rated the physical aggression for this show. In
physical aggression Martha Stewart will act like a celebrity and just joke around thinking it would
not hurt them and think it is a harmless game. For verbal aggression there was six tally marks that

The Role Of Women In Matthew LewisThe Monk And The Italian
Matthew Lewis The Monk differs from Ann Radcliffe s The Italian in its portrayal of women.
Since both The Monk and The Italian feature prominent female religious leaders, comparing the
different ways The Monk and The Italian portray this specific group of women sheds light on each
author s attitude toward female agency. The latter refers to the ability to exercise control in
pursuing individual goals. Both The Monkand The Italian depict tyrannical head nuns abusing their
agency. However, the horrific descriptions and exclusive focus on diabolical nuns in The Monk
exudes a pessimistic attitude towards female agency as invariably leading to catastrophes. By
contrast, The Italian reveals a more optimistic attitude towards female agency through its more
subtle depiction of the cruel nuns and its acknowledgement of benevolent nuns, proposing that
female agency can be channeled to good causes. In The Monk, the Prioress abuses her agency in
tyrannical ways. The Prioress imprisons women and rules by fear, oppressing the women within her

Name: Katelynn Maxwell Date: December 8, 2014
Abstract
The purpose of the PCR Technology experiment was to determine the size of each of our visible
DNA fragments as well as approximating the amount of tandem repeats our DNA has. In order to
determine all that did, we started by spitting in a tube and then spinning our cheek cells in a
clinical centrifuge. Once the centrifuge was done spinning our cells, we placed them into a
microfuge. Later, we put the microfuge into a boiling bath as well as ice. We obtained a PCR
tube with a bead and then added contents to it and had it placed in a thermal cycler. We also
created a ladder as well as positive and negative controls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Worst Of Family Dynamics
I have recently experienced the worst of family dynamics. Admitted to our floor was a elderly
lady that was admitted with a urinary tract infection. This woman had many other comorbidities
that consisted of diabetes, congestive heart failure, large stage four pressure ulcer that overlaid the
sacrum and coccyx and was bedridden due to the effects of two major strokes. Her daughter was
power of attorney and provided all of her mothers care in the home environment. This is a healthy
familytrait but became an unhealthy one the moment the mother was admitted for care. Her
daughter would not allow the nurses to perform the necessary interventions prescribed and require
for her mother.
She was demeaning to all staff, doctors, case managers,

The Impact Of Reality Television And Its Impact On Society
Reality television is an addicting phenomenon that graces millions of televisions daily. From
shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Life of Kylie, and Love and Hip Hop to series like
My Strange Addiction, Hoarders, and My 600 lb Life, reality TV has left its mark and impacted
today s society in more ways than one. It has slithered into mass media to dominate lives and focus
on real events or situations that have long term effects on its viewers. This brand of television
serves as a reflection of society and often exploits its participants if not glamorizes a certain
lifestyle that may seem unattainable to its viewers. For example, the Kardashians represent success
and the achievement of the American dream that, to many, is elusive. Through the dramatization of
mental illness, Hoarders exploits its viewers and reinforces the perception of these people as
outsiders which lead to further marginalization and hiding of hoarding behavior. Shows that look
down on and criticize certain lifestyles, such as Hoarders, function as a cautionary story and is put
out to the public as a warning of how not to live. Lifestyle themed programs are also connected to
broader campaigns, orchestrated by private and public partners to promote desired behaviors such
as delayed parenting and healthy eating (Oullette). With this program, A E tends to sensationalize
these people and sends the message to its audience that this behavior is monstrous and should be
avoided at all costs. A E chooses to dramatize the manifestation of hoarding as opposed to using the
platform to get to the root of hoarding for both the viewers and the hoarders themselves. Although
some episodes are less offensive than others, Hoarders exploits its subjects and interferes with the
viewer s potential for empathy. The ordinary celebrity promised by television, and the incitement to
perform the real for ratings, accentuates these possibilities and constraints, and raises important
questions about whether ordinary people are empowered or exploited through nonfiction and reality
programming (Oullette). Instead of encouraging proper treatment it presents hoarding as something
that is impossible to relate to and rather than sympathize, viewers are

Higher Education for Military Personnel
Education has always been a huge benefit for military personnel. Not only too further one s career,
but for those that wish to seek employment after their time in service. Now employers look more
favorable toward both the experience that men and women get from the service and to include the
education they receive during or after their enlistment. Mostly due to the fact that they are driven to
always do better for themselves and their career. They also have the discipline and respect to adapt
to whatever the future may bring.
In the state of Ohio there are close to 400 colleges and universities, but among them are only 96
schools that are considered veteran friendly. Within those schools they just do the bear minimum

what are some of these schools doing to support some of our nations finest men and women? What
within the northwest Ohio region should veterans be looking for when selecting a college?
To really absorb the difference of a university that is considered veteran friendly and those that are
not, future students need not look no further then that of their surrounding area: Owens Community
College, Bowling Green University, Toledo University, and Franklin University. These are some of
the top rated schools for veterans that provide programs where other schools are lacking.

Freedom Chile, 2014). This makes Chile s economy the 7th free economy in the index of 2014.
The total ranking is a bit lower than previous year. There is a change, to be more precise it s a
positive change in the investing figures of Chile. Chile is considered at a very high position with
regards to its economic freedom in Southern and the Central parts of America. Chile s economy has
been constantly considered as one of the most freely run economies in its 20 year old history of

freedom, freedom for investing and financial ease of freedom. Looking at Chile s high levels of
efficient operations, monetary freedom and business freedom has improved efficiently as well.
Chile is considered worldwide leader in economic freedom. It continues to go by the concept of

Choosing Life Over Death, Kindness Over Killing Essay
Choosing life over death, kindness over killing. It s simple really. Practice what you preach.
However, to most it is viewed as extreme, somewhat ridiculous? What I believe is extreme is
consuming decomposing flesh and pretending to embrace peace while we make violence,
suffering, torture and death a daily part of our lives. Eating fruits and veggies... extreme? Not so
much. I believe it comes down to compassion. The basic concept that most people have been
taught since birth. As Arthur Schopenhauer says compassion is the basis of morality . In its
simplest form it is just kindness, at the least respect. Yet all day we make choices that define us,
our beliefs and morals, who we are what we support and whether or not we realise the enormity of
these decisions, they all have ethical implications for which we are accountable. My decision is
veganism. In recent times the popularity of veganism has risen greatly, but so has the negative
views surrounding it. In the articles Do animal lovers need to be vegan? (Telegraph UK, Peter
Wedderburn, 11 Aug 2015) and Meatis more than just dead animals (Peter Schaller, Feb 14, 2015),
the concept of veganism is discussed in regards to compassion. In this article I will discuss the
three reasons why I believe true kindness and compassion means omitting all animal products from
your life.
Firstly, eating a plant based diet is showing compassion to your own body. The book The China

Title: Presence of L2 accent in L3 Acquisition
1. Introduction:
Second language acquisition (L2) has been often regarded as an important stage for language
learning after acquired the first language. However, it is evident that Third Language Acquisition
(L3) has become increasingly important and it is a new and hot topic for many scholars due to
the multilingual culture in nowadays society. Over the past few decades, many scholars have
investigated that L3 acquisition is more specific as L3 learners have already had an L2 in mind
which they acquired certain linguistic knowledge. Gut (2009) mentioned that the learners could
apply the previous language learning experience onto the learning process of a new language.
Thus, L3 learners are more competitive as they became bilingual speaker after the acquisition of
two languages and they are able to draw more linguistic competence and cognitive skills and
perform better than monolingual speaker. In addition, Lipinska (2015) stated that L3 pronunciation
research is still an undeveloped topic to be investigated and more research are required to

The Death Penalty Should Be Used For Every State
The death penalty is an extremely controversial topic. The death penalty should be in use for every
state. Ever since America became a nation, Americans have argued about it. There are many people
who agree and disagree over the use of it. The government is deemed to punish criminals, but the
main question is to what extent. Capital punishment, such as the death penalty, should be used as a
deterrent for crime. The death penalty is mostly institutionalized in the Southern and Midwestern
states; Texas has instituted it the most. While there are many ways for one to find oneself on death
row, homicide is the most common of these. Treason and kidnapping are also prevalent examples
of crimes that could land one on death row. The punishment for a criminal depends upon the
complexity, and seriousness of the crime. If one were to commit a crime of that extremity, one
should have a penalty that is equivalent to ones crime. In ancient history, criminals were brought to
an arena to be killed in public games. Also, being nailed to a cross, beheading and hangingwere
other penalties for the serious crimes committed. These are all different ways of carrying out the
death penalty, but they are out dated . One never sees the death penalty used the way they were in
ancient times anymore. Executions were once public events of high drama. In the colonial times
executions were considered to be celebrations for the community by uniting the good people against
the face of evil. Hangings

The Impact of North American Writers on United States Citizens
When we ask ourselves what makes us American, we must look to our past. As a United States
settler, we each have a job to fulfill in this country. We view ourselves as the alpha and as a
beautiful country. North American writers have had a crucial influence on modern day citizens
with dissertations like the Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key, John F. Kennedy s Address
to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association, and the story about Pocahontas by Paula Gunn
Allen.
To begin with, the Star Spangled Banner (Key 433) is the national anthem of the United States of
America. Not only does it bring dignity to myself, but to many others. The song s name is to
resemble the flag of the United States. When the British locked Francis Scott Key on their boat with
two other Americans, Francis Scott Key witnessed tragedy on Fort McHenry. The next morning, the

Philosophy of Nursing Practice Essay
Compassion and Caring: My Philosophy of Nursing Practice In nursing, it is important to have a

others, and various lengths of stay expected. The nurse will encounter different cultures and beliefs
in their practice, some contrary to their own. Their philosophy of nursing will be evident with how

I knew that I did not want to be like that, but that I wanted to take care of sick people and be there
for them. I wanted to be the nurse that was able to have a conversation with her patients and still

Essence of Nursing The core of nursing is and should be knowledgeable patient care. The nurse
should be well rounded and possess enough knowledge to know not only the technical aspect of
patient care, but also how to tend to the patients emotional needs. Kagan, Smith, Cowling Chinn
(2009) say It can be argued that the overemphasized focus on technological and medical
interventions rather than on services underpinned by caring practices and humanist nursing
values puts the health of all humans at risk (p. 75). While medical interventions are necessary,
the nurse is responsible for carrying out those interventions in a humane and caring way. If the
focus is on the technical side of nursing, the patient as a person is easily forgotten. I believe that
to truly care for a patient, the nurse must act as a patient advocate. In more recent times, the
nurses role as a patient advocate is expanding and becoming more widely recognized. Influential
authors have shown that nurse s role is to speak up for a patient when they are not able to speak
up for themselves. Ann Hamric (as cited in Mahlin 2010, p. 248) says that a nurse s

economy was characterized by a complete lack of resources due either to stagnating production or
extensive exporting of materials. Both relative and absolute shortages were widespread in the
Soviet Bloc and Poland, in particular, contributing to the severe economic crisis that unfolded
throughout the 1980s. The Formation of Solidarity and the Emergence of the Third Way, 1980
1982 Ever since Poland became officially incorporated into the Soviet Bloc and the PZPR usurped
power within the one part political system, there were numerous instances of anti communist
opposition that invariably encountered repression and persecution at the hands of the pro Soviet
government. In the context of the present discussion, however, the roots of concerted effort to
undermine or reform the state regulated socialist economy can be traced back to the emergence of
Solidarity, the first Polish trade union that was not under a direct

Mount Vesuvius Essay
E ver since the ancient Greeks settled in the area in the 8th century B.C., the region around mount
Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples attracted wealthy vacationers who wanted to soak up the sun and
beautiful scenery. By the time of the first century A.D., the town of Pompeii, located about five
miles from the mountain, was a flourishing resort for Rome s most distinguished citizens. Elegant
houses and elaborate villas lined the paved the many streets. The biggest and most well known
eruption of the volcanoknown as Mt. Vesuvius happened 1,937 years ago. Mount Vesuvius
laid waste
to the city of Pompeii in 79 A.D.. The city was buried quickly by volcanic ash which made the city
a well preserved snapshot of life in a Roman city. Pompeii was slowly recovering from a major
earthquakethat rocked the city in February of 62... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This slab window allows heat from the Earth s mantle layer melt the rock of the African plate
building up pressure that causes violent explosive eruptions. In the past, Mount Vesuvius has had
a roughly 20 year eruption cycle, but the last serious eruption was in 1994. Seismic activity was
so common in the area, citizens paid little attention in early August of 79 when several quakes
shook the earth beneath Herculaneum and Pompeii. People were unprepared for the explosion
that took place shortly after noon on the 24th of August. A citizen watching from the town of
Misenum approximately 13 miles away (21 Kilometers), known by the name of Pliny described
the massive debris cloud. It resembled a Mediterranean pine more than any other tree. Like a very
high tree the cloud went high and expanded in different branches...sometimes white, sometimes
dark and stained by the sustained sand and ashes. In Pompeii, ash blocked the sun by 1 in the
afternoon and the people frantically tried the clear the heavy ash from the various rooftops as it
fell at a staggering 6 inches per

Recycling At The United Kingdom
Recycling is a process that continues to develop and become more popular within waste
management. As there is a wide amount of literature relating to this topic the following review will
focus in on aspects such as recycling behaviours and recycling in the curriculum.
Recycling in the United Kingdom
Recycling is the method by which waste is collected and processed into raw materials, which in
turn are processed into new products (Prestin and Pearce, 2010). This helps the UK comply with
the EC Landfill Directive targets that state to reduce the quantity of municipal waste going to
landfill sites (Kurz et al, 2007). The primary goal of recycling schemes is to increase the amount
of material that is collected and recycled, meaning that less waste is going to disposal (Lane and
Wagner, 2013). Woodard et al (2004) stated that the percentage of households in the United
Kingdom involved in recycling needed to continue to increase to reach the national target of
recycling household waste, therefore local authorities got involved in incentives, which is
discussed later in the review. (Woodard et al, 2004). A main concern in modern society is the
current state of the environment; it is a topic that is frequently examined in research. It has been
found that people want to act in a way to enhance sustainability in the environment and recycling is
a fairly simple behaviour which has a major impact on this. Recycling is also economically feasible
whilst having great impacts on the

Community Analysis Essay
Imagination plays a crucial role in creating communities and its identity. Fiction, in this case will
cover both absolute fabrications and biases in the discourse of history s narration. History can be
malleable in the hands of narrators, which they use to unite their audience into a common
interpretation of their history. Alicia Barber, The author of the essay, Local Places, National
Spaces: Public Memory, Community Identity and Landscape at Scotts Bluff National Monument,
talks about two community s disagreement on a tourist spot s proper use and maintenance. Barber
analyzes the community s relations to the landmark and how it affects the discourse of history s
narration, the malleability of public memory, and how it all connects with... Show more content on

The community in this case refers to the local community s role in the history being
commemorated. Their particular behaviour in staking their claim in history can be described as a
group s narcissism in their history s narration. A group s patriotism to a place would not exist if
there was nothing to be proud of, and sometimes, for such histories to exist, the narrative of the
stories have to be bias. Their discourse lies within storyteller s allegiances and favouritism to certain
groups. The local community s (the neighbouring towns: Gering and Scottsbluff) role as an activist
community who are the ones who primarily interact with the landmark will be emphasizes. The
national community s role in the landmark s development might be downsized or simply not fall in
favour of the narrator s discourse. Nationalism is a fiction that bends history. Conversions of
fictions into history and history into perceived fiction powers patriotism, and on the extreme end
nationalism. Ignatieff states nationalism s propaganda on Serb radio about the Croats sets the stone
for the ignorance they need in order to separate themselves from the Croats, and to perceive their
differences as threats to their over embraced uniqueness. Nationalism is a fiction: it requires the
willing suspension of disbelief. To believe in nationalist fictions is to forget certain realities

The Rise Of The Pentecostalism Movement
In this paper I will be discussing the rise of the Pentecostalism movement and briefly how it has
changed the world through its rapid outspreading around the world. Most do not know the great
impact that this movement had on the world. I hope to introduce this movement in this paper and
why it is important to Church History.
Roots of Pentecostalism Pentecostalism has its roots in Wesleyan notions of conversion and the
higher life advocates. Both of these brought out a belief in a second experience that happened after
salvation. They, John Wesley and John Fletcher, called this baptism in the Holy Spirit
. It also has its
origins in the evangelical faith healing movement that was lead by Charles C. Cullis. This
movement focused on healing and the physical well being through miraculous acts. Another was
the early church of Corinth and the Day of Pentecost. The Great Awakening was also apart of the
beginning of this movement through its heartfelt salvation through Jesus Christ. The baptism of the
Holy Ghost streamed out of England through John Wesley s thoughts on entire sanctification.
Another group, Calvinist, who emphasized on a total transformation in their life after conversion.
Through all these influences and divine healing led people to believe that this experience after
conversion that was said to happen was through baptism of the Holy Ghost. Mainly rooted in the
Fourfold Gospel. Another reason this movement took root was because it embodied all the

Chapters 1 and 2 Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil...
Summary Essay of Amusing Ourselves to Death
This is a breakdown of Neil Postman s Amusing ourselves to death (1985), which must be written
to explain the effects that high volume of emails, text messages, video games, and internet
television has on the human race and the way we think. In the first chapter of the book The
Medium is the Metaphor Postman (1985) begins his argument that he presents through out the
book. Postman (1985) explains how knowledge is no longer gained from print, but from visual.
This change is dramatic and irreversibly and the two print and visual can not accommodate one
another. In chapter 2 Postman (1985) lays out a plan for the book. Postman (1985) rants and raves
about how television is evil and has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Backing up his attestations, he gives several examples. Native Americans communicating long
distances using smoke signals, they could likely not have had philosophical communication. The
limitations of the form affect what can be realistically communicated. As another example
President Taft was a fat man, one who would more than likely not be elected today because of his
appearance. However, in a world without television he would be elected due to his intelligence and
political arguments which held more clout than appearance. Postman s (1985) most important
example the news of the day could not exist without proper media to give it expression (p.7).
Even though corruption has always occurred amongst the human race, it was not as bearing on a
person s everyday life until media made it possible for them to be communicated at a faster pace. In
this chapter Postman explains how we have turned from the Age of Typography to the Age of
Television and how the young require all communication to be in the form of entertainment (p.8).
He implies that our form of speaking works through media metaphors which do not tell us what the
world is like, but instead tells us what it is like without telling us anything. They limit and regulate
what the world must be (p.10).
Postman (1985) then speaks about the clock and how it serves as a metaphor for the way we look
at the world, moments turning into other moments. The clock serves as a conversation man has

What Are The Stereotypes Of Teen Drivers Essay
Teen Drivers over time have become three times more likely to become involved in a fatal
vehicular accident. This statistic often leads to the negative stereotype of teen drivers. However,
one must ask why are teens more likely to be involved vehicular accidents rather than any other age
group. It would seem that they might have quicker reaction times, and even the ability to pay
attention to the road and others around them more. However, these young drivers often attend
school for eight hours, participate in extracurricular activities, and then some teens even work part
time even full time jobs. Therefore, they drive later and later, creating difficulties on top of the lack
of experience, for example exhaustion, and distractions whether the... Show more content on

Some suggestions have been to increase the driving age to twenty one and older, however, the lack
of experience would be heightened with a possible increase of driving under the influence since
the legal drinking age is twenty one. Therefore, instead of raising the driving age why doesn t
the state, or even community create a mandatory Driver s Ed class, one for learning about
driving and another for actually driving. This is due to the idea that teens are more likely to see
the errors of their classmates and not want to make the same mistake, or see what to do in certain
situations that a teen might not know about. For example, the majority of teens aren t actually
taught about what to do in case one s car starts hydroplaning, which is crucial for not only the
driver but anyone around them on the road safety. This is due to how the cars wheels have no
traction on the ground and if they accelerate, or brake they could lose control of their car even
more so than they already had. Thus, providing a mandatory class for graduation for students aged
sixteen through nineteen will give them the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge, so that
they have a decreased chance of being involved in an

Key Players Of The Industry
7.4Key Players of the Industry:
In Courier Segment:
This is the primary business segment of UPS. It has positioned itself to be the leader in U.S.
domestic operation of this segment. This segment of the industry is fairly concentrated in
global level as well as in the domestic level in the U.S. Top 3 large companies make over 43% of
global market share. This is mostly due to the competitive requirements such as large capital,
complex and integrated network, expertise, and technology. These factors are very difficult to
bring together in a short time horizon. This also creates entry and exit barrier into this industry.
The followings are some of the key players of this industry segment. UPS: In 2014, UPS had a
22% of global market share in Time Definite International Shipments , and 52% of market share in
U.S. domestic package delivery segment. FedEx: FedEx is the closest competitor of UPS in terms
of their similarity in operational style, service offerings (also include freight and logistics service),
target customers, and to some extent prices. FedEx also serves all 220 countries and territories that
UPS serves which intensify their rivalry for market share, first mover status, most profitable
customers, most suitable partners, and other arrangement with the country specific regulatory
bodies, pressure groups, and unions. FedEx s global market share in Time Definite International
Shipments in 2014 was 26%, and 30% of market share in U.S. domestic package delivery

  • 2. The Beatles Sgt. Pepper Essay Sergeant Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band, recorded in 1967, is to date the number one Rock and Roll album ever recorded. Sgt. Pepper s is considered to be the first concept album. There are many things that brought about the creation of The Beatles most influential album. Before The Beatlesbegan the recording process of Sgt. Pepper s they had retired from touring. This gave the group ample time to experiment with different instruments, recording techniques and drugs. The album cover also sparked a revolution in itself. Many bands took notice of the creative elements of Sgt. Pepper s and learned from them. The Beatles had been touring virtually nonstop since they came to America. The band decided to call it quits after their 1966... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The wah wah pedal is now a standard for all rock musicians. As a result of The Beatles being the number one band in the world, they had access to the industries latest recording tools. Perhaps one of the most important recording tools used by the band in recording was automatic double tracking or ADT. This device allowed the band to flawlessly double any given sound. ADT was used mostly on vocals to enhance the sound of the singer. The Beatles also used an innovative tool known as the Dolby noise reduction system (Dolby NRS). This device reduced the build up of noise during the over dubbing process. Dolby NRS is still widely used in the field of music recording. In an effort to find a new sound, The Beatles cracked open an amplifier and put a fan inside. Just as talking into a fan distorts a voice, the band found that it has the same effect on an instrument. Many of the sounds were added onto the tracks randomly which makes the album virtually impossible to rerecord or perform live. Drugs played a role in the recording of Sgt. Pepper s. The group was notoriously known to experiment with the drugs LSD and Marijuana. The entire album has debatable drug references, but the one thing that can not be argued is that the entire group was high on these drugs throughout the recording process. The record has many sounds that will be used later in the psychedelic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Negative Consequences Of Noise Pollution Ahmed Sami Hassan Dr. Clark ENG 1101 06 June 2015 Noise Pollution What is the Noise Pollution? The term noise pollution used to define unwanted sounds that come from many sources such as barking dogs, loud music; vehicles, aircraft and rail transport; air conditioners, factories; amplified music and construction work released into the environment. Noise pollution has adverse effects on both human health and environment. One of the most obvious negative consequences of prolonged exposure to noise is hearing loss. Studies show that people who have been regularly exposed to intense noise, due to the nature of their work, have decreased hearing sensibility, compared to those who have worked in more quiet conditions. The most disturbing source of noise pollution stems from traffic (Healthy Hearing). Elevated sound levels cause changes in the structure of the inner ear which results in irreversible hearing loss. The Studies found any sound levels crosses the 70dB mark; it becomes noise for the ear. Noise levels above 80 decibels produce damaging effects to the ear. When ear is exposed to extreme loud noise (above 100 decibels) for a considerable period of time, it can cause irreparable damage and lead to permanent hearing loss. Sleep Disturbances is one of the noise pollution effects that can deter your overall well being. Noise can interrupt a good night s sleep, and when this occurs, the person feels extremely annoyed and uncomfortable. People deprived of uninterrupted sleep show a sharp dip in their energy levels which often results into extreme fatigue. This can considerably decrease a person s ability to work efficiently. Noise pollution may also lead to mental health problems. Exposure to loud sound can result in elevated stress levels as well as stimulate violent behavior. A constant noise in the vicinity can also trigger headaches, make people tense and anxious, and disturb emotional balance. Another effect of noise pollution is on cardiovascular issues. Studies have shown that high intensity sound cause a dramatic rise in blood pressure as noise levels constrict the arteries, disrupting the blood flow. The heart rate (the number of heartbeats per minute) also increases. These sudden abnormal changes in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Human Papillomavirus ( Hpv ) Essay The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States among teens and young adults (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). HPV is known to attack epithelial cells and as many as 75% to 80% of males and females can become infected in their lifetime (Merck Sharp Dohme Corp., 2012). There are many different strains some of which cause no symptoms and others that can cause genital warts, as well as various types of oropharyngeal and/or anogenital cancers. There are currently three vaccines licensed by the FDA since 2006 Cervarix, Gardasil, and Gardasil 9. These vaccines are a 3 dose series recommended for routine use among girls and boys at ages 11 and 12, and ages 13 26 for those who have not previously been infected. Although these vaccines do not protect against all HPV strains, they do protect against the two most common high risk (cancer causing) strains types 16 and 18. In addition to preventing types 16 and 18, the Gardasil vaccine protects against the two most common low risk (genital warts causing) strains and the Gardasil 9 vaccine protects against five additional cancer causing strains, as well as the other strains previously mentioned. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015)The purpose of the Bauldur Felskov et al (2014) study was to assess the efficacy of the HPV vaccineagainst cervical lesions by comparing the incidence trends before and after the vaccination program was first implemented. ... An ancient Chinese text on mathematics, the Chou Pei also gives an evidence that the Chinese knew about the Pythagorean theorem many years before Pythagoras or one of his followers (Joseph, 2000, p. 180). The Pythagorean discovered and first proved it, so that the theorem is named after Pythagoras. Pythagoras Proof: Let a and b be the legs, and c be the hypotenuse of the given right triangle. Political risks are the complications businesses and governments may face as a result of political decisions or any political change that changes the expected outcome and value of a given economic action by changing the probability of achieving business objectives. Political risk faced by firms can be defined as the risk of a strategic, financial, or personnel loss for a firm because of such nonmarket factors as macroeconomic and social policies (fiscal, monetary, trade, investment, industrial, income, labour, and developmental), or events related to political instability (terrorism, riots, coups, civil war, and insurrection). For a business, the implication for political risk is that there is a measure of likelihood that political events may complicate its pursuit of earnings through direct impacts (such as taxes or fees) or indirect impacts (such as opportunity cost forgone). As a result, political risk is similar to an expected value such that the likelihood of a political event occurring may reduce the desirability of that investment by reducing its anticipated returns. There are both macro and micro level political risks. Macro level political risk looks at non project specific risks. Many big time athletes on the collegiate level are being used to make more of a profit for their respected schools. Due to this there has been an uproar of whether the athletes should get a pay for their names being used. As an athlete of the NCAA I strongly agree on athletes getting a deferred payment of $5,000. U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken ruled the plaintiffs, including former and current Division I men s basketball players and Football Bowl Subdivision players, will be allowed to challenge the NCAA s current restrictions on what athletes might receive in exchange for playing sports. The ruling sets up the prospect of a fundamental change in scholarship rules and the concept of amateurism (Berkowitz 3). This would help athletes to be able to fight for the compensated pay. Primary production plays the largest role in these environments, and is dictated by geophysical fluids in the vertical and horizontal directions (Camargo et al., 2014).It is especially important to study and understand the characteristics of these oceanographic profiles, as it is this primary production that will have large impacts on species diversity and marine food web assemblages. Saanich Inlet, Satellite Channel, and Haro Strait are all located in close proximity on the Southern tip of Vancouver Island, B.C. Saanich Inlet is a long fjord with a width of 7.2 kilometers, and is characterized by its deep, 215 meter basin. It is here, that hypoxic to anoxic waters are found, which are uniquely replenished with oxygenrich waters on an annual basis during the late summer and early fall (Anderson and Devol, 1973). Because of it s sheltered orientation on a North to South axis, Saanich Inlet receives very little wind and tidal mixing, giving it a sturdy, stratified water column wherein phytoplankton blooms are able to thrive during spring and many other parts of the year, further contributing to the anoxic deep waters (Gargett et al., 2003). • 20. The Role Of Women In Matthew LewisThe Monk And The Italian Matthew Lewis The Monk differs from Ann Radcliffe s The Italian in its portrayal of women. Since both The Monk and The Italian feature prominent female religious leaders, comparing the different ways The Monk and The Italian portray this specific group of women sheds light on each author s attitude toward female agency. The latter refers to the ability to exercise control in pursuing individual goals. Both The Monkand The Italian depict tyrannical head nuns abusing their agency. However, the horrific descriptions and exclusive focus on diabolical nuns in The Monk exudes a pessimistic attitude towards female agency as invariably leading to catastrophes. By contrast, The Italian reveals a more optimistic attitude towards female agency through its more subtle depiction of the cruel nuns and its acknowledgement of benevolent nuns, proposing that female agency can be channeled to good causes. In The Monk, the Prioress abuses her agency in tyrannical ways. The Prioress imprisons women and rules by fear, oppressing the women within her convent. She consider[s] [women of rank] quitting the Convent, as a disgrace thrown upon it and will use every artifice to avoid [that] (169). Not only does she imprison women, she also subdues them by fear as seen by how Mother St. Ursula describes her fear that her every action [is] observed, [her] every step [is] traced and that [she is] constantly surrounded by the Superior s spies (273). From shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Life of Kylie, and Love and Hip Hop to series like My Strange Addiction, Hoarders, and My 600 lb Life, reality TV has left its mark and impacted today s society in more ways than one. It has slithered into mass media to dominate lives and focus on real events or situations that have long term effects on its viewers. This brand of television serves as a reflection of society and often exploits its participants if not glamorizes a certain lifestyle that may seem unattainable to its viewers. For example, the Kardashians represent success and the achievement of the American dream that, to many, is elusive. Through the dramatization of mental illness, Hoarders exploits its viewers and reinforces the perception of these people as outsiders which lead to further marginalization and hiding of hoarding behavior. Shows that look down on and criticize certain lifestyles, such as Hoarders, function as a cautionary story and is put out to the public as a warning of how not to live. Lifestyle themed programs are also connected to broader campaigns, orchestrated by private and public partners to promote desired behaviors such as delayed parenting and healthy eating (Oullette). With this program, A E tends to sensationalize these people and sends the message to its audience that this behavior is monstrous and should be avoided at all costs. A E chooses to dramatize the manifestation of hoarding as opposed to using the platform to get to the root of hoarding for both the viewers and the hoarders themselves. Although some episodes are less offensive than others, Hoarders exploits its subjects and interferes with the viewer s potential for empathy. The ordinary celebrity promised by television, and the incitement to perform the real for ratings, accentuates these possibilities and constraints, and raises important questions about whether ordinary people are empowered or exploited through nonfiction and reality programming (Oullette). Instead of encouraging proper treatment it presents hoarding as something that is impossible to relate to and rather than sympathize, viewers are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Choosing Life Over Death, Kindness Over Killing Essay Choosing life over death, kindness over killing. It s simple really. Practice what you preach. However, to most it is viewed as extreme, somewhat ridiculous? What I believe is extreme is consuming decomposing flesh and pretending to embrace peace while we make violence, suffering, torture and death a daily part of our lives. Eating fruits and veggies... extreme? Not so much. I believe it comes down to compassion. The basic concept that most people have been taught since birth. As Arthur Schopenhauer says compassion is the basis of morality . In its simplest form it is just kindness, at the least respect. Yet all day we make choices that define us, our beliefs and morals, who we are what we support and whether or not we realise the enormity of these decisions, they all have ethical implications for which we are accountable. My decision is veganism. In recent times the popularity of veganism has risen greatly, but so has the negative views surrounding it. In the articles Do animal lovers need to be vegan? (Telegraph UK, Peter Wedderburn, 11 Aug 2015) and Meatis more than just dead animals (Peter Schaller, Feb 14, 2015), the concept of veganism is discussed in regards to compassion. • 29. The Death Penalty Should Be Used For Every State The death penalty is an extremely controversial topic. The death penalty should be in use for every state. Ever since America became a nation, Americans have argued about it. There are many people who agree and disagree over the use of it. The government is deemed to punish criminals, but the main question is to what extent. Capital punishment, such as the death penalty, should be used as a deterrent for crime. The death penalty is mostly institutionalized in the Southern and Midwestern states; Texas has instituted it the most. While there are many ways for one to find oneself on death row, homicide is the most common of these. Treason and kidnapping are also prevalent examples of crimes that could land one on death row. The punishment for a criminal depends upon the complexity, and seriousness of the crime. If one were to commit a crime of that extremity, one should have a penalty that is equivalent to ones crime. In ancient history, criminals were brought to an arena to be killed in public games. Also, being nailed to a cross, beheading and hangingwere other penalties for the serious crimes committed. These are all different ways of carrying out the death penalty, but they are out dated . One never sees the death penalty used the way they were in ancient times anymore. Executions were once public events of high drama. In the colonial times executions were considered to be celebrations for the community by uniting the good people against the face of evil. The nurse should be well rounded and possess enough knowledge to know not only the technical aspect of patient care, but also how to tend to the patients emotional needs. Kagan, Smith, Cowling Chinn (2009) say It can be argued that the overemphasized focus on technological and medical interventions rather than on services underpinned by caring practices and humanist nursing values puts the health of all humans at risk (p. 75). While medical interventions are necessary, the nurse is responsible for carrying out those interventions in a humane and caring way. If the focus is on the technical side of nursing, the patient as a person is easily forgotten. I believe that to truly care for a patient, the nurse must act as a patient advocate. In more recent times, the nurses role as a patient advocate is expanding and becoming more widely recognized. • 42. The Formation Of Solidarity And The Emergence Of The Third... The entire process of planning was thereby compromised since it no longer relied on rational calculation. As a consequence, enterprises frequented ended up with surplus of resources, which they would either hoard or exchange for other materials. The inefficient planning practices characterized by bargaining and hoarding led to what Katherine Verdery calls the economy of shortage (21). She notes that the shortages were relative when sufficient resources existed but were misplaced or poorly allocated due to inefficient planning. Shortages were absolute when the economy was characterized by a complete lack of resources due either to stagnating production or extensive exporting of materials. Both relative and absolute shortages were widespread in the Soviet Bloc and Poland, in particular, contributing to the severe economic crisis that unfolded throughout the 1980s. The Formation of Solidarity and the Emergence of the Third Way, 1980 1982 Ever since Poland became officially incorporated into the Soviet Bloc and the PZPR usurped power within the one part political system, there were numerous instances of anti communist opposition that invariably encountered repression and persecution at the hands of the pro Soviet government. In the context of the present discussion, however, the roots of concerted effort to undermine or reform the state regulated socialist economy can be traced back to the emergence of Solidarity, the first Polish trade union that was not under a direct ... • 43. Mount Vesuvius Essay E ver since the ancient Greeks settled in the area in the 8th century B.C., the region around mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples attracted wealthy vacationers who wanted to soak up the sun and beautiful scenery. • 44. Recycling At The United Kingdom Recycling is a process that continues to develop and become more popular within waste management. As there is a wide amount of literature relating to this topic the following review will focus in on aspects such as recycling behaviours and recycling in the curriculum. Recycling in the United Kingdom Recycling is the method by which waste is collected and processed into raw materials, which in turn are processed into new products (Prestin and Pearce, 2010). This helps the UK comply with the EC Landfill Directive targets that state to reduce the quantity of municipal waste going to landfill sites (Kurz et al, 2007). The primary goal of recycling schemes is to increase the amount of material that is collected and recycled, meaning that less waste is going to disposal (Lane and Wagner, 2013). Woodard et al (2004) stated that the percentage of households in the United Kingdom involved in recycling needed to continue to increase to reach the national target of recycling household waste, therefore local authorities got involved in incentives, which is discussed later in the review. (Woodard et al, 2004). A main concern in modern society is the current state of the environment; it is a topic that is frequently examined in research. It has been found that people want to act in a way to enhance sustainability in the environment and recycling is a fairly simple behaviour which has a major impact on this. Recycling is also economically feasible whilst having great impacts on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Community Analysis Essay Imagination plays a crucial role in creating communities and its identity. Fiction, in this case will cover both absolute fabrications and biases in the discourse of history s narration. History can be malleable in the hands of narrators, which they use to unite their audience into a common interpretation of their history. Alicia Barber, The author of the essay, Local Places, National Spaces: Public Memory, Community Identity and Landscape at Scotts Bluff National Monument, talks about two community s disagreement on a tourist spot s proper use and maintenance. Barber analyzes the community s relations to the landmark and how it affects the discourse of history s narration, the malleability of public memory, and how it all connects with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The community in this case refers to the local community s role in the history being commemorated. Their particular behaviour in staking their claim in history can be described as a group s narcissism in their history s narration. A group s patriotism to a place would not exist if there was nothing to be proud of, and sometimes, for such histories to exist, the narrative of the stories have to be bias. Their discourse lies within storyteller s allegiances and favouritism to certain groups. The local community s (the neighbouring towns: Gering and Scottsbluff) role as an activist community who are the ones who primarily interact with the landmark will be emphasizes. The national community s role in the landmark s development might be downsized or simply not fall in favour of the narrator s discourse. Nationalism is a fiction that bends history. Conversions of fictions into history and history into perceived fiction powers patriotism, and on the extreme end nationalism. Ignatieff states nationalism s propaganda on Serb radio about the Croats sets the stone for the ignorance they need in order to separate themselves from the Croats, and to perceive their differences as threats to their over embraced uniqueness. Nationalism is a fiction: it requires the willing suspension of disbelief. To believe in nationalist fictions is to forget certain realities (Ignatieff ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Rise Of The Pentecostalism Movement In this paper I will be discussing the rise of the Pentecostalism movement and briefly how it has changed the world through its rapid outspreading around the world. Most do not know the great impact that this movement had on the world. I hope to introduce this movement in this paper and why it is important to Church History. Roots of Pentecostalism Pentecostalism has its roots in Wesleyan notions of conversion and the higher life advocates. Both of these brought out a belief in a second experience that happened after salvation. They, John Wesley and John Fletcher, called this baptism in the Holy Spirit . It also has its origins in the evangelical faith healing movement that was lead by Charles C. Cullis. This movement focused on healing and the physical well being through miraculous acts. Another was the early church of Corinth and the Day of Pentecost. The Great Awakening was also apart of the beginning of this movement through its heartfelt salvation through Jesus Christ. The baptism of the Holy Ghost streamed out of England through John Wesley s thoughts on entire sanctification. Another group, Calvinist, who emphasized on a total transformation in their life after conversion. Through all these influences and divine healing led people to believe that this experience after conversion that was said to happen was through baptism of the Holy Ghost. Mainly rooted in the Fourfold Gospel. Another reason this movement took root was because it embodied all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Chapters 1 and 2 Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil... Summary Essay of Amusing Ourselves to Death This is a breakdown of Neil Postman s Amusing ourselves to death (1985), which must be written to explain the effects that high volume of emails, text messages, video games, and internet television has on the human race and the way we think. In the first chapter of the book The Medium is the Metaphor Postman (1985) begins his argument that he presents through out the book. Postman (1985) explains how knowledge is no longer gained from print, but from visual. This change is dramatic and irreversibly and the two print and visual can not accommodate one another. In chapter 2 Postman (1985) lays out a plan for the book. Postman (1985) rants and raves about how television is evil and has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Backing up his attestations, he gives several examples. Native Americans communicating long distances using smoke signals, they could likely not have had philosophical communication. The limitations of the form affect what can be realistically communicated. As another example President Taft was a fat man, one who would more than likely not be elected today because of his appearance. However, in a world without television he would be elected due to his intelligence and political arguments which held more clout than appearance. Postman s (1985) most important example the news of the day could not exist without proper media to give it expression (p.7). Even though corruption has always occurred amongst the human race, it was not as bearing on a person s everyday life until media made it possible for them to be communicated at a faster pace. In this chapter Postman explains how we have turned from the Age of Typography to the Age of Television and how the young require all communication to be in the form of entertainment (p.8). He implies that our form of speaking works through media metaphors which do not tell us what the world is like, but instead tells us what it is like without telling us anything. They limit and regulate what the world must be (p.10). Postman (1985) then speaks about the clock and how it serves as a metaphor for the way we look at the world, moments turning into other moments. The clock serves as a conversation man has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. What Are The Stereotypes Of Teen Drivers Essay Teen Drivers over time have become three times more likely to become involved in a fatal vehicular accident. This statistic often leads to the negative stereotype of teen drivers. However, one must ask why are teens more likely to be involved vehicular accidents rather than any other age group. It would seem that they might have quicker reaction times, and even the ability to pay attention to the road and others around them more. However, these young drivers often attend school for eight hours, participate in extracurricular activities, and then some teens even work part time even full time jobs. Therefore, they drive later and later, creating difficulties on top of the lack of experience, for example exhaustion, and distractions whether the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some suggestions have been to increase the driving age to twenty one and older, however, the lack of experience would be heightened with a possible increase of driving under the influence since the legal drinking age is twenty one. Therefore, instead of raising the driving age why doesn t the state, or even community create a mandatory Driver s Ed class, one for learning about driving and another for actually driving. This is due to the idea that teens are more likely to see the errors of their classmates and not want to make the same mistake, or see what to do in certain situations that a teen might not know about. For example, the majority of teens aren t actually taught about what to do in case one s car starts hydroplaning, which is crucial for not only the driver but anyone around them on the road safety. This is due to how the cars wheels have no traction on the ground and if they accelerate, or brake they could lose control of their car even more so than they already had. Thus, providing a mandatory class for graduation for students aged sixteen through nineteen will give them the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge, so that they have a decreased chance of being involved in an ...
