Universal Design (UD) is an approach to creating inclusive environments and instruction that meet the needs of all people regardless of ability. It focuses on diversity, flexibility, and accessibility. The process of UD involves identifying the context and users, gathering input from others, establishing guidelines, implementing designs comprehensively, providing accommodations and support, and evaluating feedback. Key principles are using multiple means of representation, expression, and engagement. Proper implementation in the classroom uses flexible materials like digital tools, manipulatives, and visuals to meet varied student needs.
This power point was created by the Office of Special Programs in partnership with RESA (West Virginia Board of Education) based staff developed Support for Personalized Instruction (SPI) as a sub-set of Support for Personalized Learning (SPL) to specifically address the quality of the interactions that have been found through research to most directly move individual learners from where they are to where they need to be.
Is it conceivable that a course can be designed to reach students with varied learning styles and strengths? This session will explore the practical and concrete applications of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to curriculum and program design. It will also highlight the Scholar Program’s approach to professional development, mentoring, and evaluation in supporting higher education campuses to apply UDL and other strategies. The Scholar Program is part of the Disability & Diversity Project at SDSU – Interwork Institute, which conducts professional development and technical assistance activities for faculty, stafadministrators. The overall focus of the Project is facilitate the capacity of colleges and universities to meet the needs of its diverse student population, including students with disabilities. At the conclusion of the session, participants will have the opportunity to complete a Scholar application to be considered for the 2010-2011 academic year.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Acetabularia Information For Class 9 .docxvaibhavrinwa19
Acetabularia acetabulum is a single-celled green alga that in its vegetative state is morphologically differentiated into a basal rhizoid and an axially elongated stalk, which bears whorls of branching hairs. The single diploid nucleus resides in the rhizoid.
2. What is Universal Design?
Universal Design (UD) is an approach to teaching with the
goal of creating products and environments that are easily
accessible for all people with and without disabilities.
Adaptations and specialized instruction may be necessary.
High focus on diversity, inclusiveness, and flexibility.
3. Process of Universal Design
1.) Identify Application: decipher the situation and environment
you wish to apply universal design to.
2.) Identify Population: describe the population’s characteristics
ex. students, faculty, age, gender, height.
3.) Involve Others: Include other people in this process because
other perspectives can be helpful.
4.) Set Guidelines/Standards: Look at previous universal design
guidelines and set your own standards based on your
application.
4. Process of
Universal Design
5.) Apply: use the set guidelines in your design to every aspect
including all the components of your design such as staff training. This
is important in order to enhance the benefits for the individual.
6.) Accommodations: figure out how to improve the design to meet
the needs of every individual.
7.) Train/Support: Offer support and give training to the individuals
helping with the program ex. staff, instructors, volunteers.
8.) Evaluate: critique the design and ask for feedback from the
public as well as the people involved.
5. Principles of Universal Design
1.) Multiple Means of Representation: There is not one way to
represent an idea or lesson to students. Different students need
different methods that work best for them. Ex.) manipulatives
2.) Multiple means of action/expression: Students express their
knowledge in very different ways ex.)visually, verbally
3.)Engaging students: In order to be successful in the classroom, we
need to get our students actively involved in what they are
learning so that they can pull the most information possible from
the lesson.

6. Implementing UD in the
classroom
Use materials that are flexible such as…
-digital materials- variations in presentation
-manipulative objects-hands on ex.) blocks
-visuals
Example: a computer game for reading can
have different settings for the speed that the
text is read and settings that also ask different
tasks of the students depending on what they
struggle with.
7. Overall…
As teachers we need to ensure that we are not only paying
attention to the needs of students, but actually take charge by
implementing Universal Design Learning into the classroom because
this style of learning helps ensure that every student is on the same
page and excelling in their daily tasks.
When everyone can participate and contribute to the class, that is
when we know we are being successful as teachers.
