Who was the “King of Rock and Roll”? Elvis Presley! Elvis (1935-1977) was a singer,
guitarist and actor from the USA. His songs were very popular from the 1950s until
the 1970s, and people still love them today. Over the years, there were 77 Elvis
songs at number one in the music charts – more than for Michael Jackson or
Madonna.
Graceland was Elvis’ home from 1957 to 1977 – the last year of his life. It’s in
Memphis, Tennessee in the USA. Today, Graceland is a popular museum with many
items from Elvis’ life. Every year, more than 600,000 people visit it.
Graceland is amazing. It’s got eight bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a living room, a
dining room, a kitchen, a games room, a music room and a media room with three
TVs. There is also a “jungle” room with a green carpet and orange lamps.
There are many other interesting things to see at Graceland, too, for example, Elvis’
22 cars, his two aeroplanes and his gold albums.
