How many jobs can one person have? One, two, three? Well, Seamus McSporran
had 14 jobs at the same time until he retired in the year 2000.
Seamus McSporran lived on Gigha – a small island near Scotland – most of his life.
He was the police officer on the island and he worked at the only shop there. He
also worked at the post office in the shop. But that’s not all. Seamus had a small
hotel, too. He was the chef there and he also washed the dishes and did the laundry.
Seamus wasn’t a doctor or a dentist, but he helped the 100 people on the island
because he was the ambulance driver. The ambulance was also a school bus and a
taxi. So Seamus drove the children to school and he took tourists around the island
in the taxi.
Seamus worked 15 hours a day, seven days a week for 35 years. At the age of 62,
he decided to retire because he was very tired. Seamus and his wife went to live a
quiet and calm life in Scotland.
