The Intel X58 chipset connects Intel Nehalem processors using the QuickPath Interconnect (QPI). Unlike traditional northbridges, the X58 does not have a memory interface since Nehalem processors have an integrated memory controller. The X58 communicates with processors via high-speed QPI and with peripherals like PCI-E via the ICH southbridge. It supports dual processors and high-speed communication between components. The X58 provides improved graphics performance with PCI-E 2.0 and enhanced storage and audio capabilities.
