Campaign Research

Liverpool Culture
Campaign
In 2008, Liverpool was declared the "European
Capital of Culture" holding a festival of activities
which lasted 52 weeks featuring music, theatre
performances, musicals, parades and even
appearances from Sir Paul Mccartney and Ringo
Starr, although not together and appearing only for
separate events.
This celebration and award for Liverpool proved
monumental in improving the city's reputation and
boosting the economy from a rise in tourism in order
for people all over the world to see and experience
the culture of a city with such a sudden rise of good
reputation.
Knowsley Sports and Culture
Campaign
The Knowsley Sports and Culture Campaign is another culture award
within Merseyside to celebrate the achievements and talents of those
within the community.This is for people who help inspire others with
great achievements or work tirelessly to encourage and promote
sports and culture within their community.
These awards were given to the likes of volunteers, coaches, junior
achievers, school sports teams, sports clubs and even people who
have recovered from serious injuries or illnesses. Showcasing the
strength, passion and talent the people in the community have for
sports and the arts that make their culture unique.
Manchester Culture Awards 2019
The Manchester culture awards won in 2019, helped recognize
Manchester as the second largest creative city in Europe after
London, with a GVA to the city's economy of £1.4 billion.
The event is intended to celebrate the culture and talents of the
local community. Hosting shows, projects and events all to do
with visual art, music, theatre, digital art, dance, literature,
photography, craft, etc. Attracting people to see what the
community is capable of and what they are truly passionate
about within their culture that they deem worthy of funding and
of awards.
Scottish Culture Awards-
Edinburgh University
The Scottish CultureAwards, held in
Edinburgh in 2018 is a celebration of the
nation's culture within arts and media,
honouring key figures from music, dance,
comedy, film, television and theatre.
Including events and shows from people
such as DanielAbercrombie, David
Heyman, Caroline Deyga and Kirsty Finlay.
The achievements of those shortlisted for
awards across these categories serve as
inspiration to aspiring creative figures in
the Edinburgh university in order to
nurture and encourage the skills and
knowledge of next generation of people
working in the creative industry.
Hull 2017- UK
City of Culture
IN 2017, Hull was named the UK city of
culture by the Department for Digital,
Culture, Media and Sport.This was won
from parades, films, peformances, art
pieces, etc.
Despite being often overlooked and
forgotten when compared to other
cities such as Liverp0ol or London, Hull
proves to be a place of great historical
and cultural significance. Home of
philosophers such as William
Wilburforcem writers and activists such
as Mary Woolstonecroft and novelist
Stevie Smith.
The events consist mainly of street
festivals and parades showing art from
museums and even firework shows.
Drawing massive crowds of tourists and
boost to the economy that Hull finally
deserves.
Reading Cultural Awards
The Reading Cultural Awards is an event which best
acknowledges and awards the art, culture and heritage of
the community. Giving awards from a number of
categories including favourite Reading performance, best
venue, Organization of theYear and Business Champion of
the Arts
These awards recognize both the individual and collective
excellence in the arts and culture of the community, and
how the attitude of arts in the community enriches it's
culture and makes Reading a much more vibrant,
passionate place to live and work in.
Culture Campaign Logo
Research
When making a culture campaign, it is important to ensure the logo is
b0th vibrant and represents the community/ the culture that is being
awarded. Such as the Liverpool EuropeanCapital of Culture logo,
which faintly shows the outline of buildings in Liverpool City Centre,
demonstrating the importance we place on iconic architecture and
sightseeing locations.
Another example could be the Scottish CultureAwards from 2018, in
which the world 'Culture' in the logo is made up of paint palettes,
writing quill, theatre masks, dancing legs, etc.This shows a largely
diverse number of arts to appreciate within the culture and how all-
encompassing the culture is for any aspiring artists.
Ideas for my own Culture
Campaign Award
For the city of Liverpool, I would hold an award
for Young Artist of theYear, this would include
nominees within the visual arts, dance, drama,
singing, creative writing, etc.This is intended to
recognize and reward accomplishments from
the youth within the Liverpool community,
demonstrating the passion and enthusiasm for
art and the culture they come from passing on
to the younger generations.
Visual Arts
For the culture award, I will decide to
choose the winner within the category of
visual arts.
The visual arts consist of artistic pieces
that are appreciated through sight and
visuals, such as paintings, sculptures,
photography, film-making, etc.
The award is being given in order to
promote and congratulate the skill and
passion the youth have for visual arts,
showcasing the sheer amount of talent
from the young Liverpool community.
Galleries/Venues
In order to draw in people for the culture campaign and awards, we
would open galleries and venues with all the best visual art on display
for the public to come in and see.These galleries would include a
wide range 0f paintings, drawings, sculptures of different styles and
artistic visions ranging from modern art, abstract art, realism, etc.
The people visiting will also be able to vote regarding the art they
see, deciding the venue with the most welcoming atmosphere, the
best exhibition, the art piece most representative of the culture, as
well as categories for each kind of art piece, such as best realistic art
piece, best modern art piece, etc.
Murals
Another exhibition of the Liverpool
community we could promote are the
art murals all around the city. We can
promote these all as tourist
attractions, allowing for a vote of
which the public deem the best and
most iconic for the Liverpool
community, and give an award for its
promotion of our culture to the wider
world.
Artists
Most importantly, the campaign will give an
award for young and adult artist of the year,
promoting the different artists and their
work with promotional videos and
campaigns on the contestants, eventually
deciding upon the winner of best artist,
therefore promoting more tourism and more
attraction to the community for people to
see the winner's art and the exhibitions in
person.

Unit 21 culture campaigns research

  • 1. Unit 21 -Capital of Culture Campaign Research Kieran Riley Year 13- Digital Media A-Level
  • 2. Liverpool Culture Campaign In 2008, Liverpool was declared the "European Capital of Culture" holding a festival of activities which lasted 52 weeks featuring music, theatre performances, musicals, parades and even appearances from Sir Paul Mccartney and Ringo Starr, although not together and appearing only for separate events. This celebration and award for Liverpool proved monumental in improving the city's reputation and boosting the economy from a rise in tourism in order for people all over the world to see and experience the culture of a city with such a sudden rise of good reputation.
  • 3. Knowsley Sports and Culture Campaign The Knowsley Sports and Culture Campaign is another culture award within Merseyside to celebrate the achievements and talents of those within the community.This is for people who help inspire others with great achievements or work tirelessly to encourage and promote sports and culture within their community. These awards were given to the likes of volunteers, coaches, junior achievers, school sports teams, sports clubs and even people who have recovered from serious injuries or illnesses. Showcasing the strength, passion and talent the people in the community have for sports and the arts that make their culture unique.
  • 4. Manchester Culture Awards 2019 The Manchester culture awards won in 2019, helped recognize Manchester as the second largest creative city in Europe after London, with a GVA to the city's economy of £1.4 billion. The event is intended to celebrate the culture and talents of the local community. Hosting shows, projects and events all to do with visual art, music, theatre, digital art, dance, literature, photography, craft, etc. Attracting people to see what the community is capable of and what they are truly passionate about within their culture that they deem worthy of funding and of awards.
  • 5. Scottish Culture Awards- Edinburgh University The Scottish CultureAwards, held in Edinburgh in 2018 is a celebration of the nation's culture within arts and media, honouring key figures from music, dance, comedy, film, television and theatre. Including events and shows from people such as DanielAbercrombie, David Heyman, Caroline Deyga and Kirsty Finlay. The achievements of those shortlisted for awards across these categories serve as inspiration to aspiring creative figures in the Edinburgh university in order to nurture and encourage the skills and knowledge of next generation of people working in the creative industry.
  • 6. Hull 2017- UK City of Culture IN 2017, Hull was named the UK city of culture by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.This was won from parades, films, peformances, art pieces, etc. Despite being often overlooked and forgotten when compared to other cities such as Liverp0ol or London, Hull proves to be a place of great historical and cultural significance. Home of philosophers such as William Wilburforcem writers and activists such as Mary Woolstonecroft and novelist Stevie Smith. The events consist mainly of street festivals and parades showing art from museums and even firework shows. Drawing massive crowds of tourists and boost to the economy that Hull finally deserves.
  • 7. Reading Cultural Awards The Reading Cultural Awards is an event which best acknowledges and awards the art, culture and heritage of the community. Giving awards from a number of categories including favourite Reading performance, best venue, Organization of theYear and Business Champion of the Arts These awards recognize both the individual and collective excellence in the arts and culture of the community, and how the attitude of arts in the community enriches it's culture and makes Reading a much more vibrant, passionate place to live and work in.
  • 8. Culture Campaign Logo Research When making a culture campaign, it is important to ensure the logo is b0th vibrant and represents the community/ the culture that is being awarded. Such as the Liverpool EuropeanCapital of Culture logo, which faintly shows the outline of buildings in Liverpool City Centre, demonstrating the importance we place on iconic architecture and sightseeing locations. Another example could be the Scottish CultureAwards from 2018, in which the world 'Culture' in the logo is made up of paint palettes, writing quill, theatre masks, dancing legs, etc.This shows a largely diverse number of arts to appreciate within the culture and how all- encompassing the culture is for any aspiring artists.
  • 9. Ideas for my own Culture Campaign Award For the city of Liverpool, I would hold an award for Young Artist of theYear, this would include nominees within the visual arts, dance, drama, singing, creative writing, etc.This is intended to recognize and reward accomplishments from the youth within the Liverpool community, demonstrating the passion and enthusiasm for art and the culture they come from passing on to the younger generations.
  • 10. Visual Arts For the culture award, I will decide to choose the winner within the category of visual arts. The visual arts consist of artistic pieces that are appreciated through sight and visuals, such as paintings, sculptures, photography, film-making, etc. The award is being given in order to promote and congratulate the skill and passion the youth have for visual arts, showcasing the sheer amount of talent from the young Liverpool community.
  • 11. Galleries/Venues In order to draw in people for the culture campaign and awards, we would open galleries and venues with all the best visual art on display for the public to come in and see.These galleries would include a wide range 0f paintings, drawings, sculptures of different styles and artistic visions ranging from modern art, abstract art, realism, etc. The people visiting will also be able to vote regarding the art they see, deciding the venue with the most welcoming atmosphere, the best exhibition, the art piece most representative of the culture, as well as categories for each kind of art piece, such as best realistic art piece, best modern art piece, etc.
  • 12. Murals Another exhibition of the Liverpool community we could promote are the art murals all around the city. We can promote these all as tourist attractions, allowing for a vote of which the public deem the best and most iconic for the Liverpool community, and give an award for its promotion of our culture to the wider world.
  • 13. Artists Most importantly, the campaign will give an award for young and adult artist of the year, promoting the different artists and their work with promotional videos and campaigns on the contestants, eventually deciding upon the winner of best artist, therefore promoting more tourism and more attraction to the community for people to see the winner's art and the exhibitions in person.
