Final Sketches
On my front cover I have put the banner at the very top of the page. The I put
the masthead across the page so it stands out to the audience. Then I out the
main headline below that to is it easy and clear for the reader to see. The
main image is in the middle taking up most of the space as this is what draws
attention to the magazine. The cover lines are next to the main image so
people to see them. Finally the barcode is at the bottom left so people can
buy the magazine.
The double page spread will
have the masthead at the
top left. Then the title of
the article will be
underneath the masthead
so people know what they

artist.
Masthead Ideas
Masthead

1. Vertex
2. H-H (Hip-Hop)
3. Mondo
4. Future
5. Fated
6. Unborn
7. President
8. State
For my magazine these were my ideas
for the masthead of the magazine. I
wanted to call my magazine something
meaningful and related to the country
of origin. So I chose the masthead
president as this relates to the country
if origin.
Justification of Masthead names
I have chosen ‘President’ as it relates back to
America and the genre of hip-hop came from
America as an underground urban movement
known as "Hip Hop" began to develop in the South
Bronx in New York City. It focused on emceeing (or
MCing), breakbeats, and house parties.
President is associated with someone of high status
connoting my magazine will equally be of high
status.
House Style - PRESIDENT
The color scheme to my first magazine is light blue and a light grey. As these
two colours contrast each other. The colour blue connotes loyalty highlighting
that my magazine will contain accurate information. The colour blue is easy to
see and connotes my magazine will have pure and trustful information. The
light grey denotes a neutral colour, the connotations behind the colour grey is
that it is quite cool and contemporary.
Furthermore, I will have social media logos on my page to keep up with the
brand identity and it is an example of cross-media convergence, ‘digital
natives’ (Prensky 2001) will like being “courted across multiple media
platforms” (Jenkins 2006).
Font Style
I have chosen this font
as it is similar to ‘Vibe’
but not as similar as the
other font. However this
font is more squashed
together. I also chose
this font because I think
that it is unique so
people will be able to
recognize it easily.
Bad Stories
by imagex
Images of Influence
When I came to thing about what my magazine was going tot look like, I
looked at some popular magazines that already exists to see what they were
doing to make their magazine popular. The magazine that I looked ta was
‘Vibe’ as they are a popular hip-hop magazine. I looked at their front covers
and I saw one I liked so I used the same layout as them. I copied the
masthead going across the top and the banner above this as I thought that
this looked appealing. Furthermore I used the same layout of the cover lines
as they stand out to the reader.
Mood board 1 – PRESIDENT
Interview Draft
Hello Tom How are you?
I am good thank you. How are you?
I’m good, how do you feel about your new album release?
I feel excited and can’t wait to see the response from the fans, it’s probably my best album yet with a couple of unheard bonus tracks. It will be released
sometime in 2017.
How long did it take to recorded the whole album?
It toke me quite a long time, about 3 years as I wrote the whole album myself. Also a lot of effort was put into each song and some personal stories are
included I them.
Are you looking to perform in upcoming festivals?
Yes, I would like to perform at one of the festivals in 2017 summer as I feel that would really boost my publicity and my new album. Also I think it would be
good seeing all my fans there supporting me. Also this will be my first festival I would have done.
Will you be promoting yourself before the festivals or concerts?
Yes I will talking about it on my social pages link Snapchat and Instagram to try and get as many fans only as I can. Also I will be giving away tickets on these
social media pages as well. I will be also going to radio stations taking about my new album and upcoming festival/concerts.
Will you be performing your new album there?
Well I’m hoping to, if it is well responded to I will be defiantly be performing it at a festival but it really depends on the response of the release. I also want
to publicize my album more and this will be the a good place to do this.
What has your friends and family said about your rise?
My family and friends are obviously proud of me for what I am doing. Also my close mates come with on tours and to festivals. Obviously, I've lost some
mates over doing this as I spent all my time in the studio and I never spent a lot of time with my mates just only my close ones that stuck by me.
What have the old mates said to you about this?
Well….. Ha ha they have just been saying that I’m cocky and and up my self thinking I’m so sick. It hasn't really effected me cause I have shut them out of
my life, however I have mentioned some lyrics so listen for them.
What has been your inspiration for making music?
Erm when I was younger I was always getting into to trouble at school and stuff and my mum used to tell me I was useless and I was never going get anyway
in life. So I wanted to prove to myself and to my family to I could actually make something out of my life, so I turned to music, so I went to my music teacher
and they gave me a studio to got to. Ever since then iv e been trying to pursue a career in music. Now I am here and I can say to my mum that I made
something out of my life and make myself proud.
Well thank you for your time and I hope to see you doing big things in the future
Yes, thank you for having on here I really appreciate it and it means a lot to me.
Graphic layouts
These are my graphic layouts fro my front
cover and DPS. Some of the conventions will
stay the same on my front cover. For
example where the masthead is placed it
will stay the same as this is what the reader
looks at to indicate what magazine it is, the
cove lines and the main image will stay in
the same place but obviously the content
will change every magazine. For my DPS the
thing that will stay the same is the
masthead in the top left. However the the
title of article, article and the main image
will change depending on the artists.
Photography Plan
Test Photography
This is the photos that I took for my front cover and DPS. For my front cover photo
is the second photo from the left and my DPS photo is the third photo from the left.
I chose to use these images as they looked the best on the front cover DPS.
Prop List
When taking the photos for my front cover and DPS
I used some props to take them. I used a camera
and the outfit that the person was wearing.
However the clothing didn’t cost any money
because it was the persons own clothes and I was
lucky enough to borrow the camera form my school
as the camera would be very expensive to buy.

In these tables above it shows what I will need to be able to create and run my
magazine. All of these aspects are very important to make and run the magazine as
you need all of them. Once I brought all the equipment once I wont have to buy
them again unless they break and then they need replacing.
Conclusion
In conclusion, in this LO I have gone over all the
aspect in my chosen magazine ‘President’. I
have been able to produce pre-production

Location Recce
Location
Time
Date
Why?
The photo shoot had been
taken place on the 6th of
February 2017 and it was
between 15:00 – 16:00
The photo shoot was taken on
this date because it was one of
the tomes when me and the
model had a chance to go out
and take the photos.
As for laws and regulations if I
had taken my photos outside in
a public area or in private
property or land I would have
had to get permission to use
that area. If it was in public and
I got a member of public in the
photo I would have to ask for
their permission.
Also I had to ask the model for
their permission to take and
manipulate the photo of them
for my front cover and DPS.
Picture Needed
Shot type
Props/Equipment
Lighting
Costume
Person
Why?
The shots used in my magazines
were mid shots and we didn't
use any props. Furthermore the
lighting used was natural.
During the photo shoot the
model changed positions to try
and get a good picture for the
front cover and DPS.
I think that the mid shot would
work better rather then any
close up shots as you can see
his outfit and his body langue.
Also with the natural lighting it
gives a better quality image. I
had the model change positions
a few times to get a good
picture for the front cover and
DPS as I didn't’t want it to be
the same photo as that would
make the magazine boring.
Permission Needed
Contact needed to be
made
Evidence of this?
The photo shoot was taken in a
place where there was no
permission needed to use the
area.
The reason why I took the
photo outside again a white
wall was so I could get the
natural lighting and with the
white wall it would be easier to
edit later on, on Photoshop, so
this saves time.
Hazards and risks
Location specific
Why?
The hazard risk was very low as
I took the photo in a hall way
and I didn’t use any props.
This is because there wasn’t
any hazards at all in the area I
took the photos.
Hazards at the work place
Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. This Act of Parliament is the main piece
of UK health and safety legislation. It places a duty on all employers "to ensure, so
far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work" of all their
employees. This requires:
• Safe operation and maintenance of the working environment,
plant and systems
• Maintenance of safe access and egress to the workplace
• Safe use, handling and storage of dangerous substances
• Adequate training of staff to ensure health and safety
• Adequate welfare provisions for staff at work.
This relates to my magazine as I created a fair and efficient production plan that
enables my workers to have the right amount of time off work and the specific
equipment to make sure they are comfortable when they are working. For example I
have got everyone in my workforce a chair to sit in and their desk each. This will
make sure they are comfortable working and this makes sure they wont get any
injuries from not having the right equipment.
Ethical & Legal Issues.
The Code- It is the cornerstone of the system of voluntary self-regulation to which
they have made a binding contractual commitment. It balances both the rights of the
individual and the public's right to know. This means that I would have to self-regulate
my magazine.
Accuracy- This is when the media company has to make sure that what they are
publishing is accurate towards the IPSO guidelines. However if the company is
inaccuracy when this must be corrected or they have to write an apology. However
the publisher could be sewed by the person they have accused if they have no
evidence of what they say. This means in my magazine I have to make sure that I
publish the correct information about people so it is accurate.
Privacy- This is when the editor has to be careful about what they are writing about
someone and they don’t expose any sensitive information. The code says that
‘Everyone is entitled to respect for his or her private and family life, home, health and
including digital communications’ so this means that if an editor mentions any of this
they can take action against them. For example my magazine cannot expose any of
this private information when writing about an artists without their permission.
However if the editor has consent from the person they are allowed to mention these
topics. This means that
Harassment- This is when the editor or journalists cannot engage in any form of
intimidation or harassment. This includes not persist in asking questions, telephoning
and if they are on someone's property and they are asked to leave they have to leave.
For example my magazine journalist cannot force someone into doing an interview
with them otherwise they could be persecuted.
https://www.ipso.co.uk/editors-code-of-
practice/
Regulatory Issues
Watermark
Content that usually has copyright can be referred to as Intellectual Property
(IP) and this is protected by the law. IP can be divided into two categories;
Industrial Property and Copyright. As well as IP on printed work (hard copies),
you can get a digital watermark which protects any copyrighted content from
any magazine online and in any digital format. For example ‘Q’ magazine have
digital copies for the people have subscribed for them and by having the data
protected someone cannot still that data. It is important to have this because
it means people will have to pay you to use your information/ ideas and the
company can also decline the use of their products if they wanted to. The
best way to protect your IP is to acquire a patent. However, this can take
several years to get and costs over $7000 in fees but it allows you to not have
your own work stolen by another person.
For example ‘Q’ magazine can put their logo on a image so when someone
else comes and wants to use it they have to go to ‘Q’ magazine and ask them
if they can use and the magazine company could ask them to pay them to use
it.
Regulatory Issues
Data Protection Act (1998)- Is an act of the United
Kingdom (UK) Parliament defining the ways in which
information about living people may be legally used
and handled. The main intent is to protect individuals
against misuse or abuse of information about them.
For example my magazine has to the very careful about
what they put into their magazines about a person they
are talking about, if they are not they could be sued by
the person and fined.
http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/UK-
Data-Protection-Act-1998-DPA-1998
Copyright
Copyright- is when there is a legal right which lasts for a certain
amount of years so you can’t print, publish, perform, film, or record
literary, artistic or musical material that already exists.
This is on the bottom of the ‘Q’ magazine website, this means that
everything this website belongs to Bauer Media. If anyone uses the
information or pictures on any of the Bauer Media websites they
will be persecuted for copyright. As all the stuff the any of the
Bauer Media websites belong to Bauer Media and you have to ask
permission of them to be able to use their photos or information.
The copyright act was changed in 1988 as the Design and Patents
act. This is when people have their own right to write and put their
own photos in a print. Also the person who toke the photo are able
to protect them so no one else are able to use them unless they
pay them or ask permission.
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/
copyright-acts-and-related-laws
Conclusion
In conclusion, in this LO I have been able to
assess locations, risks, and legal/ethical issues
relevant to their print media product ( my
magazine ‘President’), finding solutions to any
risks or issues identified.
Equipment
Before taking my photos for my front cover
and DPS I had to get some equipment to
ensure that my photos were the best quality
that they could as they have to look
professional for the magazine. The equipment
that I used to take the photos was a white
background and a Cannon camera. I used a
Cannon camera because this is a good camera
and produces good quality images. I used a
white background because it would make it
easy for me to edit in Photoshop.

PRODUCTION PLAN
LAUNCH DATE – SATURDAY 2nd SEPTEMBER
Desktop Publishing Skills
1. First I got my background colour placed in for the style I planned to use during my
plan. I put it into my front cover by using the gradient tool which allowed me to
2. Next I placed my main image in with it fully cropped and looking as clear as possible.
1. I then put in my barcode which consisted of placing an actual barcode along with
logos of other apps and finally the website address for the magazine.
1. After rearranging everything I then placed the magazines name on it along with the
side lines going across on top.
2. I then placed the remaining sidelines on the side of the image in bold to make them
stand out, I also placed in the main headline on top of the side lines to make it stand
out along with it being in a different font from the rest.
Post Production Skills
I made my front cover on Photoshop CS5.1 to
create my front cover on. This is because the
software is designed to edit images on, it has
special tools that help you manipulate the
photo. I chose this software because it was the
best software to use as there are many good
features such as the ruler tool to ensure that the
magazine dimensions are accurate.
Operating desktop publishing skills
• I first got all my dimensions right on the tab that allows me to adjust the
width and length of the pages.
• I then placed my two pages together and changed the colour of the
background that fits in with my house style.
• On the right page I drew 3 text boxes in 3 columns for the main article to
be placed in.
• Once the article was placed in I changed the colour of the questions and
made them stand out more
• I then put in the main headline of the article on top of the article so the
readers can see what it is about
• On the left page I placed another image of the artist I was doing with it
being slightly edited on Photoshop
• I then finally placed in the final details such as the writer of the article and
the photographer who took the image.
Conclusion
In conclusion, in this LO I was able to produce
materials for the use in an original print media
product. I look at what I had to get and do to be
able to create my front cover and DPS.
Deadlines
The reason why I have deadlines in my
production plan is because it means that I will
be on schedule to have my magazine published
on time for the publish date. This is so
everything is done efficiently and professionally.
This is important because my workforce has to
be organized to work well and on time.
Safe working practice
When taking my images for my front cover and DPS I had to
take into account the risks of taking the image and also editing
them.
Software risk assessment (Photoshop)
I wanted high quality and professional images, I made sure I
took quite a few photos so I had a few to choose form to see
what ones looked the best. When I was taking my images
where was no risks that could have happened because it was
in a hall way. I made sure that my images didn't’t pixilate, I do
this by holding down command T and held down shift whilst
resizing.
Proof Reading and Sub-editing
On my double page I made sure that I had proof
read all my work in case of any spelling mistake
and that it al made sense. This will ensure that
my article will be as professional as possible. It is
very important to proof read the work before it
is published as there must be no mistakes in the
magazine.
Colour
The color scheme to my first magazine is light blue and a light grey. As these two
colours contrast each other. The colour blue connotes loyalty highlighting that my
magazine will contain accurate information. The colour blue is easy to see and
connotes my magazine will have pure and trustful information. The light grey
denotes a neutral colour, the connotations behind the colour grey is that it is
quite cool and contemporary.
To maintain my house style I needed to make sure that I used the same colour
over and over again. I done this by using the eye dropper tool. The eye dropper
tool enables to get the exact same colour that I have used previously, this wil
prevent different shades being selected.
Furthermore, I will have social media logos on my page to keep up with the brand
identity and it is an example of cross-media convergence, ‘digital natives’ (Prensky
2001) will like being “courted across multiple media platforms” (Jenkins 2006).
Fonts
When choosing my fonts for my magazine I went
to www.dafont.com. This website is good
because it has a wide range of different fonts to
choose from and I chose the font Bad Stories by
imagex . I chose this font because it look like a
hip-hop font and it was unique. This font was
used for my masthead and in my DPS.
Final Front Cover
Masthead- is placed
along the top of the
magazine and behind
the main image. This is
because my magazine
of inspiration is like
this.
Main Image- is placed
at the centre of the
front cover in front of
the masthead.
Barcode- is placed at
the bottom lefts of
the front cover with
social media logos
Main Article- is placed
on the left side of the
magazine and it a lot
bigger then the other
cover lines to make
sure that the reader
knows that it is the
main article.
Banner- The banner is going across
the top, this is because my
magazine of inspiration has it.
Cover lines- these
are along the sides
of the magazine as
they wont be in the
way of the main
image.
Strapline- is under
the masthead as this
is where it is placed
on every magazine.
Final DPS
Masthead- this is on every
page so it keeps good house
styles.
Main title- This
is above the
main article so
the reader know
what it is about
before reading
it.
Main article- this is
about the artist who
is on the left of the
article.
Main image- takes up
a whole page which is
on the left of the
article and it gives
something for the
reader to look at.
Social media links-
this is the artists
social media so the
reader can go
there I look more
at the artist life.
Conclusion
In this LO I have edited the materials that I have
produced to be able to produce a final media
product. This includes what software that I used
and where I got my fonts from. I have also
explained why I chose the colours that I did.
Witness Statement
This is my witness statement, it includes what I did well in the pitch and what I could include
to make my pitch better. One of the things I could have done better was to include the target
audience for my magazines. This means I now have to go away and add my target audience
to my pitch presentation.

Masthead Ideas Masthead Names 1. Vertex 2.H-H (Hip-Hop) 3. Mondo 4. Future 5. Fated 6. Unborn 7. President 8. State For my magazine these were my ideas for the masthead of the magazine. I wanted to call my magazine something meaningful and related to the country of origin. So I chose the masthead president as this relates to the country if origin.
  • 8.
Justification of Mastheadnames I have chosen ‘President’ as it relates back to America and the genre of hip-hop came from America as an underground urban movement known as "Hip Hop" began to develop in the South Bronx in New York City. It focused on emceeing (or MCing), breakbeats, and house parties. President is associated with someone of high status connoting my magazine will equally be of high status.
  • 9.
House Style -PRESIDENT The color scheme to my first magazine is light blue and a light grey. As these two colours contrast each other. The colour blue connotes loyalty highlighting that my magazine will contain accurate information. The colour blue is easy to see and connotes my magazine will have pure and trustful information. Font Style I havechosen this font as it is similar to ‘Vibe’ but not as similar as the other font. However this font is more squashed together. I also chose this font because I think that it is unique so people will be able to recognize it easily. Bad Stories by imagex
  • 11.
Images of Influence WhenI came to thing about what my magazine was going tot look like, I looked at some popular magazines that already exists to see what they were doing to make their magazine popular. The magazine that I looked ta was ‘Vibe’ as they are a popular hip-hop magazine. I looked at their front covers and I saw one I liked so I used the same layout as them. I copied the masthead going across the top and the banner above this as I thought that this looked appealing. Furthermore I used the same layout of the cover lines as they stand out to the reader.

Interview Draft Hello TomHow are you? I am good thank you. How are you? I’m good, how do you feel about your new album release? I feel excited and can’t wait to see the response from the fans, it’s probably my best album yet with a couple of unheard bonus tracks. It will be released sometime in 2017. How long did it take to recorded the whole album? It toke me quite a long time, about 3 years as I wrote the whole album myself. Also a lot of effort was put into each song and some personal stories are included I them. Are you looking to perform in upcoming festivals? Yes, I would like to perform at one of the festivals in 2017 summer as I feel that would really boost my publicity and my new album. Also I think it would be good seeing all my fans there supporting me. Also this will be my first festival I would have done. Will you be promoting yourself before the festivals or concerts? Yes I will talking about it on my social pages link Snapchat and Instagram to try and get as many fans only as I can. Also I will be giving away tickets on these social media pages as well. I will be also going to radio stations taking about my new album and upcoming festival/concerts. Will you be performing your new album there? Well I’m hoping to, if it is well responded to I will be defiantly be performing it at a festival but it really depends on the response of the release. I also want to publicize my album more and this will be the a good place to do this. What has your friends and family said about your rise? My family and friends are obviously proud of me for what I am doing. Also my close mates come with on tours and to festivals. Obviously, I've lost some mates over doing this as I spent all my time in the studio and I never spent a lot of time with my mates just only my close ones that stuck by me. What have the old mates said to you about this? Well….. Ha ha they have just been saying that I’m cocky and and up my self thinking I’m so sick. It hasn't really effected me cause I have shut them out of my life, however I have mentioned some lyrics so listen for them. What has been your inspiration for making music? Erm when I was younger I was always getting into to trouble at school and stuff and my mum used to tell me I was useless and I was never going get anyway in life. So I wanted to prove to myself and to my family to I could actually make something out of my life, so I turned to music, so I went to my music teacher and they gave me a studio to got to. Ever since then iv e been trying to pursue a career in music. Now I am here and I can say to my mum that I made something out of my life and make myself proud. Well thank you for your time and I hope to see you doing big things in the future Yes, thank you for having on here I really appreciate it and it means a lot to me.

Graphic layouts These aremy graphic layouts fro my front cover and DPS. Some of the conventions will stay the same on my front cover. For example where the masthead is placed it will stay the same as this is what the reader looks at to indicate what magazine it is, the cove lines and the main image will stay in the same place but obviously the content will change every magazine. For my DPS the thing that will stay the same is the masthead in the top left. However the the title of article, article and the main image will change depending on the artists.

Prop List When takingthe photos for my front cover and DPS I used some props to take them. I used a camera and the outfit that the person was wearing. Location Recce Location Time Date Why? The photoshoot had been taken place on the 6th of February 2017 and it was between 15:00 – 16:00 The photo shoot was taken on this date because it was one of the tomes when me and the model had a chance to go out and take the photos. As for laws and regulations if I had taken my photos outside in a public area or in private property or land I would have had to get permission to use that area. If it was in public and I got a member of public in the photo I would have to ask for their permission. Also I had to ask the model for their permission to take and manipulate the photo of them for my front cover and DPS. Picture Needed Shot type Props/Equipment Lighting Costume Person Why? The shots used in my magazines were mid shots and we didn't use any props. Furthermore the lighting used was natural. During the photo shoot the model changed positions to try and get a good picture for the front cover and DPS. I think that the mid shot would work better rather then any close up shots as you can see his outfit and his body langue. Also with the natural lighting it gives a better quality image. I had the model change positions a few times to get a good picture for the front cover and DPS as I didn't’t want it to be the same photo as that would make the magazine boring. Permission Needed Contact needed to be made Evidence of this? The photo shoot was taken in a place where there was no permission needed to use the area. The reason why I took the photo outside again a white wall was so I could get the natural lighting and with the white wall it would be easier to edit later on, on Photoshop, so this saves time. Hazards and risks Location specific Why? The hazard risk was very low as I took the photo in a hall way and I didn’t use any props. This is because there wasn’t any hazards at all in the area I took the photos.

Hazards at thework place Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. This Act of Parliament is the main piece of UK health and safety legislation. It places a duty on all employers "to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work" of all their employees. This requires: • Safe operation and maintenance of the working environment, plant and systems • Maintenance of safe access and egress to the workplace • Safe use, handling and storage of dangerous substances • Adequate training of staff to ensure health and safety • Adequate welfare provisions for staff at work. This relates to my magazine as I created a fair and efficient production plan that enables my workers to have the right amount of time off work and the specific equipment to make sure they are comfortable when they are working. For example I have got everyone in my workforce a chair to sit in and their desk each. This will make sure they are comfortable working and this makes sure they wont get any injuries from not having the right equipment.

Ethical & LegalIssues. The Code- It is the cornerstone of the system of voluntary self-regulation to which they have made a binding contractual commitment. It balances both the rights of the individual and the public's right to know. This means that I would have to self-regulate my magazine. Accuracy- This is when the media company has to make sure that what they are publishing is accurate towards the IPSO guidelines. However if the company is inaccuracy when this must be corrected or they have to write an apology. However the publisher could be sewed by the person they have accused if they have no evidence of what they say. This means in my magazine I have to make sure that I publish the correct information about people so it is accurate. Privacy- This is when the editor has to be careful about what they are writing about someone and they don’t expose any sensitive information. The code says that ‘Everyone is entitled to respect for his or her private and family life, home, health and including digital communications’ so this means that if an editor mentions any of this they can take action against them. For example my magazine cannot expose any of this private information when writing about an artists without their permission. However if the editor has consent from the person they are allowed to mention these topics. This means that Harassment- This is when the editor or journalists cannot engage in any form of intimidation or harassment. This includes not persist in asking questions, telephoning and if they are on someone's property and they are asked to leave they have to leave. For example my magazine journalist cannot force someone into doing an interview with them otherwise they could be persecuted. https://www.ipso.co.uk/editors-code-of- practice/

Regulatory Issues Watermark Content thatusually has copyright can be referred to as Intellectual Property (IP) and this is protected by the law. IP can be divided into two categories; Industrial Property and Copyright. As well as IP on printed work (hard copies), you can get a digital watermark which protects any copyrighted content from any magazine online and in any digital format. For example ‘Q’ magazine have digital copies for the people have subscribed for them and by having the data protected someone cannot still that data. It is important to have this because it means people will have to pay you to use your information/ ideas and the company can also decline the use of their products if they wanted to. The best way to protect your IP is to acquire a patent. However, this can take several years to get and costs over $7000 in fees but it allows you to not have your own work stolen by another person. For example ‘Q’ magazine can put their logo on a image so when someone else comes and wants to use it they have to go to ‘Q’ magazine and ask them if they can use and the magazine company could ask them to pay them to use it.
  • 29.
Regulatory Issues Data ProtectionAct (1998)- Is an act of the United Kingdom (UK) Parliament defining the ways in which information about living people may be legally used and handled. The main intent is to protect individuals against misuse or abuse of information about them. For example my magazine has to the very careful about what they put into their magazines about a person they are talking about, if they are not they could be sued by the person and fined. http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/UK- Data-Protection-Act-1998-DPA-1998
  • 30.
Copyright Copyright- is whenthere is a legal right which lasts for a certain amount of years so you can’t print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic or musical material that already exists. This is on the bottom of the ‘Q’ magazine website, this means that everything this website belongs to Bauer Media. If anyone uses the information or pictures on any of the Bauer Media websites they will be persecuted for copyright. As all the stuff the any of the Bauer Media websites belong to Bauer Media and you have to ask permission of them to be able to use their photos or information. The copyright act was changed in 1988 as the Design and Patents act. This is when people have their own right to write and put their own photos in a print. Also the person who toke the photo are able to protect them so no one else are able to use them unless they pay them or ask permission. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/ copyright-acts-and-related-laws

Desktop Publishing Skills 1.First I got my background colour placed in for the style I planned to use during my plan. I put it into my front cover by using the gradient tool which allowed me to 2. Next I placed my main image in with it fully cropped and looking as clear as possible. 1. I then put in my barcode which consisted of placing an actual barcode along with logos of other apps and finally the website address for the magazine. 1. After rearranging everything I then placed the magazines name on it along with the side lines going across on top. 2. I then placed the remaining sidelines on the side of the image in bold to make them stand out, I also placed in the main headline on top of the side lines to make it stand out along with it being in a different font from the rest.

Operating desktop publishingskills • I first got all my dimensions right on the tab that allows me to adjust the width and length of the pages. • I then placed my two pages together and changed the colour of the background that fits in with my house style. • On the right page I drew 3 text boxes in 3 columns for the main article to be placed in. • Once the article was placed in I changed the colour of the questions and made them stand out more • I then put in the main headline of the article on top of the article so the readers can see what it is about • On the left page I placed another image of the artist I was doing with it being slightly edited on Photoshop • I then finally placed in the final details such as the writer of the article and the photographer who took the image.

The light grey denotes a neutral colour, the connotations behind the colour grey is that it is quite cool and contemporary. To maintain my house style I needed to make sure that I used the same colour over and over again. I done this by using the eye dropper tool. The eye dropper tool enables to get the exact same colour that I have used previously, this wil prevent different shades being selected. Furthermore, I will have social media logos on my page to keep up with the brand identity and it is an example of cross-media convergence, ‘digital natives’ (Prensky 2001) will like being “courted across multiple media platforms” (Jenkins 2006).

Fonts When choosing myfonts for my magazine I went to www.dafont.com. This website is good because it has a wide range of different fonts to choose from and I chose the font Bad Stories by imagex . I chose this font because it look like a hip-hop font and it was unique. This font was used for my masthead and in my DPS.

Final Front Cover Masthead-is placed along the top of the magazine and behind the main image. This is because my magazine of inspiration is like this. Main Image- is placed at the centre of the front cover in front of the masthead. Barcode- is placed at the bottom lefts of the front cover with social media logos Main Article- is placed on the left side of the magazine and it a lot bigger then the other cover lines to make sure that the reader knows that it is the main article. Banner- The banner is going across the top, this is because my magazine of inspiration has it. Cover lines- these are along the sides of the magazine as they wont be in the way of the main image. Strapline- is under the masthead as this is where it is placed on every magazine.

Final DPS Masthead- thisis on every page so it keeps good house styles. Main title- This is above the main article so the reader know what it is about before reading it. Main article- this is about the artist who is on the left of the article. Main image- takes up a whole page which is on the left of the article and it gives something for the reader to look at. Social media links- this is the artists social media so the reader can go there I look more at the artist life.

Witness Statement This ismy witness statement, it includes what I did well in the pitch and what I could include to make my pitch better. One of the things I could have done better was to include the target audience for my magazines. This means I now have to go away and add my target audience to my pitch presentation.
