This presentation discusses deep bar and double cage rotors used in induction motors. Deep bar rotors have bars made of multiple parallel layers, allowing higher starting torque without reducing efficiency. The top layer has lowest impedance and carries most current at start up. Double cage rotors have an outer cage of high resistance material and inner cage of low resistance material. The outer cage provides high starting torque while the inner cage maintains efficiency at normal speeds. Applications include water pumps, lathes, and drilling machines where high starting torque is required.
