A Hierarchical and Grid Based Clustering Method for Distributed Systems (Hgd ...iosrjce
In distributed peer-to-peer systems, huge amount of data are dispersed. Grouping of those data from
multiple sources is a tedious task. By applying effective data mining techniques the clustering of distributed data
is become ease and this decreases the hurdles of clustering due to processing, storage, and transmission costs.
To perform a dynamic distributed clustering, a fully decentralized clustering method has been proposed. HGD
Cluster can cluster a data set which is dispersed among a large number of nodes in a distributed environment
using hierarchal and grid based clustering techniques. When nodes are fully asynchronous and decentralized
and also adaptable to stir, then HGD cluster will apply. The general design principles employed in the proposed
algorithm also allow customization for other classes of clustering. It is fully capable of clustering dynamic and
distributed data sets. Using the algorithm, every node can maintain summarized views of the dataset.
Customizing HGD Cluster for execution of the hierarchal-based and grid-based clustering methods on the
summarized views is the main aim of the proposed system. Coping with dynamic data is made possible by
gradually adapting the clustering model.

understand nature, to explain events in nature,
and to use those explanations to make useful
predictions.
Science – an organized way of using evidence

3. Observation – involves using one or more of the
senses – Which are?
sight
hearing
touch
smell
taste
4. Data – information gathered from
observation.
Two types of observation –
Quantitative – involves numbers. Examples?
Qualitative – involves characteristics that
cannot be easily measured or counted.
Examples?
5. Inference – a logical interpretation based on
prior knowledge and experience.
Hypothesis – a possible explanation for a set of
observations or an answer to scientific
questions.
*It can be useful ONLY if it can be tested.
6. 5 Steps
1) Stating the Problem– Identify a problem to
solve.
2) Forming a Hypothesis- Example – Life can arise
from not living matter or spontaneous generation.
(Maggots appear on meat)
Hypothesis formulated by Francesco Redi in
1600s – Flies produce maggots.
7. 3) Setting Up a Controlled Experiment- Factors that
can be changed in an experiment are called
variables. Examples:
temperature, light, time
*A hypothesis should be tested by an experiment
in which only one variable is changed at a time. All
other variables should be kept unchanged, or
controlled.
Why? If multiple variables are changed, one would
not be able to tell which variable is
responsible for the observed results
8. Manipulated variable – the variable that is
purposely changed. (independent v.)
Responding variable – the variable that changes
as a result of the manipulated variable.
(dependent v.)

To make results more valid:

1) Living things are made up of units called
cells.
Cell – collection of living matter enclosed by a
barrier that separates the cell from its
surroundings.
Two types of organisms – multicellular and
unicellular

sexual reproduction – involves two different parents
(multicellular organisms)
asexual reproduction – involves only one

Metabolism – combination of chemical

Homeostasis – process by which organisms keep
their internal conditions relatively stable (breathing)

Branches of Biology
The many levels at which life can be studied include
molecules, cells, organisms, populations of a single
organism, communities of populations living in the
same area, and the biosphere.

collecting data and performing experiments.
Metric system – decimal system of
measurement whose units are based on
certain physical standards
scaled on multiples of 10.

Light microscopes produce
