Geo-Information Visualizations of Linked Data. Linked Data provides an ever-growing source of geographically referenced data for application development. In this paper, we analyse the workflow behind the development of such an application. Using two examples based on worldwide development aid and refugee data, we discuss the steps from locating data for use and data integration, up to the actual visualization in a web-based application. At each step, we discuss the skill set required for completion and point to potential challenges. This includes RDF, SPARQL, HTTP requests, HTML, and JavaScript. We conclude the paper by putting our case study in the context of GIScience curriculum development.

Presentation Location and Context World, 2015. Palo Alto, CA November 3-4, 2015.
Abstract: Creating useful local context requires big data platforms and marketplaces. Contextual awareness is relevant to location based marketing, first responders, urban planners and many others. Location-aware mobile devices are revolutionizing how consumers and brands interact in the physical world. Situational awareness is a key element to efficiently handling any emergency response. In all cases, big data processing and high velocity streaming of location based data creates the richest contextual awareness. Data from many sources including IoT devices, sensor webs, surveillance and crowdsourcing are combined with semantically-rich urban and indoor data models. The resulting context information is delivered to and shared by mobile devices in connected and disconnected operations. Standards play a key role in establishing context platforms and marketplaces. Successful approaches will consolidate data from ubiquitous sensing technologies on a common space-time basis to enabled context-aware analysis of environmental and social dynamics.
10 Insightful Quotes On Designing A Better Customer ExperienceYuan Wang
In an ever-changing landscape of one digital disruption after another, companies and organisations are looking for new ways to understand their target markets and engage them better. Increasingly they invest in user experience (UX) and customer experience design (CX) capabilities by working with a specialist UX agency or developing their own UX lab. Some UX practitioners are touting leaner and faster ways of developing customer-centric products and services, via methodologies such as guerilla research, rapid prototyping and Agile UX. Others seek innovation and fulfilment by spending more time in research, being more inclusive, and designing for social goods.
Experience is more than just an interface. It is a relationship, as well as a series of touch points between your brand and your customer. Here are our top 10 highlights and takeaways from the recent UX Australia conference to help you transform your customer experience design.

It is a distinct pleasure for me to write in support of my student, Jackie Pang. He studied in my lab for about three years, during which time I witnessed his research achievement and outstanding leadership.
Jackie entered my lab when he was a junior student. At first He had difficulty accepting the strict attendance and assignments. But soon, he learned to manage his time, work in group situations and enjoyed the opportunity to learn from his older peers.
In the past two years, Jackie took a great deal of work in the projects. Even so, he spent most of the rest of time doing research and published several technical reports and papers including one journal paper in both scientific visualization and information visualization.
Jackie is an outstanding student of wide interests. He has won many awards on math, physics and informatics. He also received many honors from many cities, colleges and societies.
Jackie has a lively and enquiring mind. When he comes up with a new idea, he always writes it down and discusses its feasibility with his peers. He also has strong practice ability and done a lot of pioneering work in team building and infrastructure construction. Last year, he developed a website for us to review papers online and created a wiki site for his group to share their experience.
Jackie is also very kind and willing to help his classmates. He always collects materials from the web and sends them to others after putting these materials in order. He is also careful and responsible, and can express clearly.
Since Jackie has long since become the most valuable member of my lab, and a role model for his newer classmates, I recommend him to your fellowship program with absolute confidence.
Thank you for the opportunity of correspondence.

2012 Education Track, Designing and Developing a New Online Graduate Geospati...GIS in the Rockies
Designing and developing a new online graduate geospatial program presents a unique opportunity to shape an innovative curriculum. Given that most Master’s degree programs are comprised of 12 classes or 36 credits, building a graduate level geospatial program requires significant thought and compromise. This is particularly true in geospatial education in which the curriculum must mirror the cross-disciplinary nature of the geospatial profession. This paper describes the design and development of a new online geospatial graduate program at American Sentinel University. Our Master of Geospatial Information Systems (MGIS) was designed for working professionals who have domain expertise in fields other than GIS. The MGIS will provide these individuals with the geospatial skills and knowledge necessary to incorporate geospatial concepts and practice into their professional lives. Students that end their studies upon completion of the initial 5 classes (15 credits) will be awarded a GIS Graduate Certificate. Overall, our program consists of courses that are designed to blend core geospatial fundamentals with dynamic geospatial technologies and GIS applications. The program courses will be discussed in the context of advice from industry experts, advisory boards, geospatial competency models and accrediting standards. Finally, strategies for assessing and maintaining program quality and relevancy will be outlined.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
