This document describes UNIFORMAT II, a standardized classification system for building elements used for specifications, cost estimating, and cost analysis. UNIFORMAT II classifies elements into four hierarchical levels, with Level 1 being the broadest groups (e.g. substructure, shell, interiors) and Level 4 being the narrowest sub-elements. The classification aims to provide consistency in economic evaluations over time and across projects. The document proposes adding a fourth level of sub-elements and provides examples and guidance for applying UNIFORMAT II in design, cost estimating, and life-cycle cost analysis. It also introduces a standard format for presenting elemental cost summaries to support project decision making.
