Due to current situation in Syria a significant number of children dropped out of school.
In 2016 and 2017 Memac Ogilvy Syria in collaboration with Unicef country office launched nation wide communication campaign to encourage parents and children to go back to school.
2. Background
According to the Unicef five years report on the Syrian children’s situation, Syria’s schooling
rates have hit rock bottom.
Syria had lost more than a quarter of its schools, more than 6000 damaged by the violence.
Finding space in over-crowded classrooms is only the first hurdle. Many lack the right papers to
enroll. Some are ashamed to catch up in classes with younger students, after years spent out of
school.
Objective
- is to create a nationwide campaign where school students across Syria are addressing their
friends/neighbors/cousins who aren’t attending school for various reasons.
- Increase school enrolment rate.
3. THE GREAT 74.
If 74% of kids are going to school, the majority can definitely influence, support and encourage
the minority of students (the 26%) and their parents of the benefits of going/sending their
children back to school.
The communication will portray actual students talking to their ‘absent peers’
and calling them by name (more personal, genuine and touching), comforting them, telling
them how much they miss them, and reminding them of their childhood dreams and promises.
4. Results
Increase of school enrolment rate from 60% to 68% between 2014/15 and 2015/16 school
years.
Syrian Ministry of Education utilizes all forms of communication to ensure improved school
enrollments rates IDP, children with disabilities and parents are more aware of the learning
programs and eased enrollment process.
