Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) has been established under the Jammu and
Kashmir Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Act, 1999, an Act of the J&K State Legislature
(ACT No. XII of 1999 dated 12th May 1999) as an autonomous, highly Technical & fully
Residential University. The University started functioning as an academic unit in Aug 2004
and was inaugurated on 19th August 2004 at the hands of the then His Excellency President
of India Dr. A.P. J. Abdul Kalam. The University is approved by UGC under Section 2(F) &
Section 12(B) of UGC Act of 1956. It has four colleges and fourteen schools imparting
education in field of engineering, sciences and humanities. The technical programs of the
University are recognized by AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education) while
architecture program is recognized by Council of Architecture.
The College of Management has two constituent Schools i.e. School of Business and School
of Business Economics. These Schools offer two Year full time M.B.A. program, and
M.B.A. (Business Economics) program besides offering PhD programs, respectively. Smart
classes, excellent class-rooms, seminar halls, rich library facilities, computer laboratory, high
speed internet labs, research based softwares, online journal access are some of the facilities
which support our mission of quality MBA education. Experienced faculty members, deeply
involved in research are at the core of each School. Each school offers a variety of fields of
specialisation including Human Resource Management, Finance, Marketing & Information
Technology, Econometrics etc. This gives the students a wide variety of choice coinciding
with their career plans.
Education at COM emphasizes on general management skills and critical business thinking
which students learn from faculty, scholars and the prevailing scholastic environment.
Students are equipped with special domain knowledge like Finance, Marketing, Supply
Chain, Human Resource Management and Econometrics. Students are given ample
opportunity to cultivate creativity and exploit innovations in the work culture. Visits of
people from corporate world and academia are part of our curriculum to apprise the students
of the corporate needs and the latest developments in theory. Industrial visits and trainings
are arranged to simulate the ground realities of corporate work and culture into their minds.
College of Management (COM) recognizes the changing face of business and accordingly
address this in our teaching pedagogy and course curriculum. COM has created a distinctive
place among the region’s successful business schools by combining rigorous course work
with industry out reach, thought leadership with up to date teaching, and valued traditions
with innovation.
3. Introduction to the Seminar
The value chain today is important since it helps in understanding the future linkages of
growth not at the level of local economy but also from local to regional and from regional to
global. It creates a competitive advantage of the changes that are happening at the global
level to ensure better avenues of the resources as well as the mobilization of the resources.
The value networks are manageable to contribute towards the organizational efficiency and
productivity. Value chain can be effectively used for organizational alliances as deliberate
strategic moves. The strategic input of the value chain analysis thus provides for the inter-
firm linkages for the competitive advantage.
The Value Chain plays a key role in understanding the need and scope for systemic
competitiveness. The analysis and identification of the core competencies lead to the strategic
focus areas of the firm. It further helps the firm to identify the current and future sources of
core competencies that would lead the firm to outsource the functions where it has no
distinctive competencies, behaviour of the input determinate over the output, sources of
innovation and up gradation and also improvement in the overall performance of the firm.
Objective of Seminar
The main purpose of the seminar is to create a platform for the knowledge building
and dissemination in the area of value chain and its strategic dimensions. The aim of current
seminar is to share the information and knowledge in field of value chain and its strategic role
in gearing the organizational efficiency. The seminar would deal in the key result areas of the
4. value chain analysis, the forecasting tools for the value chain, and its growing importance for
making the best of globalization. It would also address the possibilities of value chain as a
heuristic device as well as the analytical tool. The value chain as such has three basic
elements such as (a) the repositories of transferable (b) governance for better output (c)
different types of value chain.

The Seminar would cover following themes.

Use of value chain analysis in creating a lean and effective enterprise for

Call for Papers:
The seminar invites academicians, researchers, and practitioners who have a keen learning
desire in the area of strategy and value chain analysis to participate in the seminar. The
seminar will have both invited and contributed papers. The organizing committee invites
research papers with reference to the seminar themes from leading researchers from academic
institutions, research organizations, Non-government organizations (NGOs), civil societies,
industries, and government officials etcetera from all over India. A special session will be
planned for young research scholars, especially those who are continuing their Ph.D. in areas.
There will also be a provision of the poster presentation of the some selected papers on
additional charges. The selected papers would be published in the special issue of
“Arthanveshan”, a biannual refereed Journal of College of Management.
Guidelines for Submission of Papers:
The contributors will have to send an abstract of maximum 300 words to the
Organising secretary on or before 4th August 2012 preferably by an e-mail
nscomvc@gmail.com The abstract paper may ideally have four sections i.e
introduction/rationale, objectives, data and methodology and results.
The full papers must reach to us on or before the respective deadlines. The fully
accepted paper should be of maximum 6000 words including tables, figures
(properly incorporated in the text) and references.
The front page of the manuscript must indicate the name of the author, affiliation
and correspondence address, and conform to the following generic format:
5. Abstract, introduction, literature review, methodology, findings / discussion,
conclusion/implications and references.
Papers should be typed in MS Word using TIMES NEW ROMAN, FONT 12
with 1” top and bottom, 1.25” left and right as the margin and spaced double.
The title should be placed at the centre, capitalized and in bold, Font 16. All sub-
headings should be left justified, capitalized and in bold, Font 14.
Reference must follow Harvard Referencing style. All references should be at the
end of the text in alphabetical order.
All abstracts and full papers will be acknowledged upon receipt, and will go through a
blind review process by our selected committee members. The accepted papers for
presentation will be intimated to the first/ corresponding author should there be more
than one author.
Each of the participants/co-authors is required to pay the registration fee separately,
should the co-author/s also wish to participate in the conference.
The authors should certify that the abstract and full papers sent for the conference are not
under concurrent consideration at any other conference or journal. The selection of papers
for publication shall be the sole discretion of the review committee
Registration:
The registration fee for the conference is as follows:

The Registration fee would include: Seminar Kit, High Tea/Tea, and Seminar Lunch only.
Additional charges Rs. 100/- per paper would be charged for papers selected for poster
presentation. Also the selected certain papers can be allowed for presented in absentia.
Registration fee should be sent through the demand draft in favour of “Registrar SMVD
University, Katra”, payable at Katra, along with the registration form.
In case of scholar registration, copy of identity card or any other proof of being scholar duly
attested by the Head of the Department/Institution is mandatory to be produced at the time of
formal registration, on the day of inauguration.

Date for intimation of acceptance of abstract: 16th August 2012
Last date for acceptance of full paper: 25th August 2012
Last date for the acceptance of registration form: 28th August 2012
6. Accommodations:
Accommodation to the participants will be provided as per university norms within the
University campus, subject to availability for the duration of seminar. The accommodation

How to Reach SMVDU:
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University is situated 40 Km North of Jammu in the scenic
surroundings of Trikuta foothills, near the holy town of Katra in District -Reasi. The Campus
is situated close to the beautiful tourist resort of Jhajjar - Kotli. One can reach SMVDU
campus by local or private transport from Jammu.
Option 1: Catch Taxi Directly from Ralway Station / Bus Stand / Airport directly to
University Campus (Distance approximately 45 Kms.)
Option 2: Board bus from Jammu Bus Stand/Railyway Station plying to Udhampur/
Katra but alight at Domel (Approx. 39 Kms.). Board Mini Bus from Domel to
University (Approx. 6 Kms.)
