UbD is a framework for designing curriculum that focuses on developing student understanding and ability to apply knowledge. It involves planning curriculum backwards from the desired results - what students should know and be able to do. The UbD template consists of 3 stages: 1) Desired Results, which identifies goals, understandings, and essential questions; 2) Assessment Evidence, which involves performance tasks and other assessments; and 3) Learning Plan, which outlines learning activities and lesson plans. The goal of UbD is for students to understand concepts at a deeper level and be able to transfer their learning to new situations.
