Sentence
• A sentence is a
group of words

complete thought.
• Ex: Tom is going to
play.
Fragment
• A fragment is a
group of words
that does NOT
express a complete
thought.
• Ex: Around the
corner.
There are 4 types of
sentences.
• Declarative
• Exclamatory
• Interrogative
• Imperative
Declarative
• A declarative
sentence is a
sentence that
makes a statement.
• Ex. Jan is a
student.
Exclamatory
• An exclamatory
sentence is a sentence
that is said with
strong feeling or
emotions. (always ends
with an exclamation
mark)
• Ex. What a shame!
Interrogative
• An interrogative
sentence is a sentence
that ask a question
and always end with a
question mark.
• Ex. What is your
name?
Imperative
• An imperative
sentence is a
sentence that is a
command.
• Ex: Go to your
room.
Write each sentence and decide if
it is a declarative, exclamatory,
interrogative or imperative.
• Take out the trash.
• My house is just around the corner.
• Can you come over after school
today?
• I saw a shooting star!
