WHAT IS A SENTENCE?
A sentence is a group of words that expresses
a complete thought. It has at least one
subject and one predicate.
How many types of sentences are
there?
There are four types of sentences.
Thefourtypesofsentences
are:
Declarative sentence- A declarative sentence
makes a statement. It is punctuated with a
period (.)
Exclamatory sentence- An exclamatory
sentence expresses strong feelings, great
emotion, or excitement. It is punctuated with an
exclamation mark (!).
Imperative sentence- An imperative sentence
gives a command or makes a polite wish. It is
punctuated with a period or exclamation
mark(./!)
Interrogative sentence- An interrogative
sentence asks a question. It ends with a
question mark (?).
Examples ofthefourtypesofsentencesare:
Declarative- Red is my favorite color.
Exclamatory- What an interesting story!
Imperative- Please lower your voice.
Interrogative- Are you a student at this school?
