Clarence Danhof classifies the entrepreneurs
into four categories
Innovating
entrepreneur
Who introduces new goods, inaugurates new
method of production , discovers new market
&recognizes the enterprise.
Imitative
entrepreneur
Characterized by readiness to adopt successful
innovations inaugurated by successful innovating
entrepreneur.
Fabian
entrepreneur
Are characterized by very great caution
skepticism in experimenting any change in their
enterprise.
Drone
entrepreneur
Are characterized by refusal to adopt
opportunities to make changes in production
formulae even at the cost of severely reduced
returns.
On the basis of Behaviour
Solo operators These are the entrepreneurs who essentially work alone
and if needed at all, employ a few employees.
Active partners These are the entrepreneurs who start / carry on an
enterprise as a joint venture.
Inventors Such entrepreneurs with their competence and
inventiveness invent new products. Their basic interest lies
in research and innovative activities.
Challengers These are who plunge into industry because of the
challenges it presents. when one challenge seems to be
met, they begin to look for new challenges.
Buyers These are who do not like to bear much risk. To reduce
risk involved in a new enterprise, they buy the ongoing
one.
Life-Timers These entrepreneurs take business as an integral part to
their life. Eg: the family enterprise
On the basis of Use of Technology
Technical
entrepreneur
A technical entrepreneur is a Craftsman. His greatest
strength is his skill in production techniques.
Non-technical
entrepreneur
He is not concerned with the technical aspects of
products. He is concerned only with developing
alternative marketing strategies to promote the business.
Professional
entrepreneur
He is a very dynamic person. He is interested in
establishing a business enterprise, but not interested in
managing or operating it.
High-tech
entrepreneur
He is concerned with the application of high technology
in respect of production of goods. thus he is always
interested in experimenting the latest technology.
Low-tech
entrepreneur
He is not concerned with the se of technology.
Generally he is not ready to take up risk. hence, he
usually operates with a low technology.

Business
entrepreneur
He conceives an idea of a new product or service and starts a
business to materialise his ideas.
Trading
entrepreneur
He undertakes a trading activity and is not concerned with a
manufacturing activity.
Industrial
entrepreneur
He identifies the needs of customers and then starts industrial
units to manufacture products which satisfy their needs.
Corporate
entrepreneur
He is an individual who plans, develops and manages
corporate enterprise like a company or a trust.
Agricultural
entrepreneur
He undertakes agricultural activities like raising and marketing
of crops and fertilizers.
Retail
entrepreneur
A retail entrepreneur is the one who promotes and operates a
retail business.
Service
entrepreneur
He is a person who initiates various kinds of service activities
with an intention of earning income in the form of fees,
remuneration, etc.
On the basis of Gender
Men entrepreneur When business enterprises are owned, managed, and
controlled by men, these are called men
entrepreneurs.
Women entrepreneur It is the enterprise owned and controlled by a women
or women having a minimum financial interest of
51% of the capital and giving at least 51% of
employment generated in the enterprise to women.
On the basis of Scale of operations
Small scale
entrepreneur
He is the one who carries business or service
activities successfully on a small scale basis.
Medium scale
entrepreneur
He is engaged in promoting business units which
carry on business operations on a medium scale
basis.
Large scale
entrepreneur
He initiates and operates business activities on a
large scale basis.
On the basis of Ownership
Private
entrepreneur
He is the one who as an individual sets p a
business enterprise. He/she it’s the sole
owner of the enterprise and bears the entire
risk involved in it.
State entrepreneur When the trading or industrial venture is
undertaken by the state or the government ,
it is called state entrepreneur.
Joint entrepreneur When a private entrepreneur and the
government jointly run a business
enterprise, it is called joint entrepreneur.
