Sam Houston was elected president again in 1841. He tried to reduce government spending and balance the budget but was unsuccessful. Houston pursued peaceful relations with Indian tribes, establishing frontier trading posts and signing treaties. However, tensions with the Comanche remained. Houston also had to send troops to East Texas to end the violent Regulator-Moderator War between two feuding groups over land disputes and weak law enforcement in the area.
