2. Ocean Data View:
Ocean Data View (ODV) is developed by Alfred Wegener Institute (Prof. Rainer
Schlitzer) a computer program for the interactive exploration and graphical display of
oceanographic and other geo-referenced profile, sequence or gridded data.
ODV MP is Multi-Platform. The software is available for Windows (9x/NT/2000/XP),
Linux, UNIX, and Mac OS X systems.
ODV data collection and configuration files are platform independent and can be
easily exchanged between all supported systems. ODV lets you maintain and analyze
large sets of station data on inexpensive and portable hardware.
You can produce high-quality station-maps, general property plots of one or more
stations, scatter plots of selected stations, property sections along arbitrary cruise
tracks and property distributions on general iso-surfaces including making the
animations. ODV supports display of original scalar and vector data by colored dots,
numerical data values or arrows.
In addition, two fast gridding algorithms (Quick Gridding & Variable resolution
Gridding) provide estimates on automatically generated rectangular grids, and allow
color shading and contouring of tracer fields along sections and on iso-surfaces. A
large number of derived quantities can be calculated on-the-fly. These variables may
be displayed and analyzed in the same way as the basic variables stored on disk.

3. TsunAWI is Tsunami Waves model which developed at Alfred Wegener
Institute (Behrens et al., 2007). We are now still improving its performances
since the end of year 2008 it will be an open source publicly.
TsunAWI is available modeling software for simulating tsunamis using Initial
conditions from Rupture Generator (Babeyko, 2007) *, and includes also
source computation according to Okada’s scheme (Okada, 1985)*, deep
ocean wave propagation with nonlinear shallow water theory, and
inundation by a dry node concept, all in one seamless methodology.
It achieves this seamless incorporation off all three phases of tsunami
modeling by employing an unstructured triangular finite element mesh.

4. ODV Installations for Linux (SUSE 10):
1. Open VMware Player to start KDE 3.5.5 on openSUSE 10.2
2. Copy files from http://172.19.3.123/share/ to i.e Desktop
- odvmp_3.3.2_linux-i386.tar
- odvmpop_coastglobhr1.tar
- run_odv.txt
4. Create folder /odvmp in /home/sysop/
5. Extracts tar files & copy run_odv.txt to /home/sysop/odvmp
6. Copy files from /home/sysop/odvmp/bin_linux-i386 to /home/sysop/bin
- odvmp
- odvmp_suse10
7. Using konsole: cd /home/sysop/odvmp/bin_linux-i386/ typing odvmp
then press ENTER to run ODV

5. Plotting TsunAWI results:
1. Using ODV, please open your running results,
netcdf files (*.nc) from
/home/sysop/tsunawi_padang/run/
2. Then we will practising together ^_^

7. ANOTHER EXERCISE
Plotting precalculated TsunAWI results in ODV Windows:
1. Copy precalculated netcdf files (*.nc) from
http://172.19.3.123/share/TSUNAWI_RESULTS/
2. Paste netcdf files (*.nc) to the folder odv_local
3. Repeat the plotting steps just like you‘ve been done in
ODV Linux SUSE 10.2 ^_^
