Examples Of Foil Characters In Romeo And Juliet
Romeo Mercutio Character Foil The play Romeo Juliet presents a few specific character foils. The
characters Romeo Mercutio develop a unique foil; Mercutio, the player, and Romeo, the lover. Both
characters have unique characteristics that set themselves apart, but all in all, bind them together.
Romeo is one of the main characters in the play. Romeo is romantic and has a passion to love
and be loved. He uses words to express his love. Firstly, for example, in Act 1 Scene 5, If I
profane with my unworthiest hand, this holy shrine, the gentle sin is this; my lips, two blushing
pilgrims, ready stand. To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss. (W. Shakespeare 837) Romeo
longs to be with Juliet, and in a way, invites her to his love. ... Show more content on

He is a player and has a different outlook on love. Primarily, in Act 1 Scene 4, Mercutiosays If love
be rough with you, be rough with love; Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down. (W.
Shakespeare 829) He suggests that Romeo disregard love, and in addition, to have sex to get
over it. Also, one possible reason that Mercutio despises love is that he s possibly heartbroken.
Secondly, in Act 1 Scene 4, he describes Queen Mab as one who gives people what they want, in
her dreams. For example, On courtiers knees, that dream on curtsies straight; O er lawyers
fingers, who straight dream on fees; O er ladies lips, who straight on kisses dream. (W.
Shakespeare 830) These dreams are insignificant, and as a result, Mercutio tells Romeo about
Queen Mab; his dreams about Juliet are insignificant. Finally, Mercutio is apparently jealous of
Romeo. Throughout Romeo and Juliet, his lines label him as a pessimistic non lover. In Act 2
Scene 4, Mercutio says Alas, poor Romeo! He is already dead, stabbed with a white wench s
black eye, shot through the ear with a love song, the very pin of his heart cleft with the blind
bow boy s butt shaft. And is he a man to encounter Tybalt? (W. Shakespeare 858) He says that of
all Romeo has been through, he can t even go up to Tybalt. So, Mercutio is possibly jealous of
Romeo because he can t

Jim Butcher s Storm Front
Jim Butcher, in his novel Storm Front , employs a style similar to the hard boiled detective
novel. The protagonist of the novel, Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden (a wizard) who helps
the Chicago police department with a case that transcends mortal creativity or capability , is
confronted with many obstacles in his investigative duties. Harry is a detective who keeps getting
himself in deeper and worse circumstances and conditions. He gets ambushed, beaten up by
people involved in his investigations. He fights harder and never gives up. Also, Harry with his
confrontational attitude as a hard boiled detective makes a lifelong enemy of a vampire madam
called Biamca who wants her secrets kept. Another style as similar to the hard boiled

Analysis of Internet Protocols and Infrastructure Essay
Analysis of Internet Protocols and Infrastructure Introduction:
Network: Anything reticulated or decussated at equal distances, with interstices between the
intersections. A Dictionary of the English Language
SECTION : 1
1.1 WHAT IS A NETWORK?
A) What is a network?
A network is simply a collection of machines connected in some way that allows them to
communicate with each other and share information. To do this the machines have to be connected
in some way that allows communication, and have an agreed upon a language to talk when they do
communicate.
Components of a network might include individual hosts, some form of communications hardware,
a network protocol and a collection of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
В·WAN (wide area network)
Much larger than a LAN and all machines are not directly connected. WANs will generally have a
lower throughput than a LAN. All of the LANs on the CQU campus connect and form a WAN.
1.4 SOME MORE DEFINITIONS
Like any field of computing, networking has its own terminology. This section provides definitions
for some of the terms you ll come across.
В·Packets and datagrams
Many networking protocols transmit information as packets. Information being sent across the
network is divided into small (hundreds of bytes usually) chunks of data, called packets. The
networking software at the sending end will break the outgoing data into packets. When the packets
arrive at their destination the networking software on the receiving machine will put them all back
together.
In some cases not all the packets will arrive at the destination using the same route. The packets
may also arrive out of order, packet 50 might arrive before packet 49. The networking software
handles all of this.
Under TCP/IP packets are often referred to as datagrams. Ethernet, on type of networking
hardware, refers to packets as frames
В·Routing
The art of deciding which route data from one machine takes to get to another. In many cases their
are multiple different possible routes that can be taken and the routing software must decide which
to take.

There are several ways that juvenile delinquency is measured in which each way consists of
advantages and disadvantages within the scope of measuring crimes and delinquency. The several

from the law enforcement agencies based on three detailed part of crime groups. The crime data are
group in three categorized topics starting with the crimes that are known to the police, the number
of arrests made, and the person arrested. Crimes known to the police consist of the data which the
crimes are known to the police whether it was from public citizen reporting or were discovered by
the law enforcement agency themselves. The collected data containing the number of arrests consist
of individuals committing the crime accounting for individual that may be arrested more than once

Essay about Switzerland
Switzerland
Switzerland is best described by conveying an understanding of its geography, political, economic,
cultural and social environments. The geography of the country has had a significant impact on its
way of life. Switzerland is bordered by Germany in the north, Austria and the Principality of
Liechtenstein in the east, Italy in the south and France in the west. This represents many significant
European cultures converging on Switzerland the German speaking region, the French and the
Italian. Two thirds of the Swisspopulation lives in the Plateau, between Lake Geneva and Lake
Constance, in 30 percent of the country s surface area. There are 450 people to every 1 km2

Tasks which do not expressly fall within the province of the Federation are handled at the next
lower level, i.e. by the cantons.
The head of state is the federal president; the post is purely ceremonial and rotates annually among
the members of the Federal Council.
A Federal Council (the executive authority) of seven members elected individually for a four year
term by, but not necessarily from, the two houses of parliament in joint session. After the
formation of the coalition between the four major political parties in 1959 (the so called magic
formula), the Federal Council was made up of two members each from the Social democratic
Party, the Radical Democratic Party and the Christian Democratic Party, as well as one member of
the Swiss People s Party. Following the federal election on October 19th 2003, the distribution of
seats in the Federal Council changed, with the Swiss People s Party increasing its number of seats
to two, leaving the Christian Democratic Party with one seat.
Switzerland is divided into 26 cantons. There are German speaking and French speaking cantons,
one Italian speaking canton and cantons in which both German and French are spoken. In one
canton (GraubГјnden) German, Italian and Rhaeto Romanic (Rumantsch) are spoken.
Each canton has its own constitution, its government, its parliament, its courts and its laws, though
they must, of course, be compatible with those of the Confederation. The cantons enjoy a great

Control Over The Mind In George Orwell s 1984
Charles Darwin, founder of theory of evolution, once said, The highest possible stage in moral
culture is when we recognize that we ought to control our thoughts. If the highest point is control
over thoughts, then the lowest point must be when individuals have no control over their own
minds. This is evident through Ingsoc regime s philosophy on thoughtcontrol in Orwell s 1984
where people don t have freedom of thought. Another example which demonstrates how control
over mindleads to corruption of humanity itself is through Stanley s criticism on 1984 where he
illustrates that by controlling what is in minds of people government puts one in a stage of
unconsciousness which helps gov abuse people as mindless machine. Moreover, North Korea and
ISIS government s manipulation of children s mind proofs that these children loose morals as a
result of being dictated these thoughts and having it controlled by gov without even knowing it.

The Discovery Of A Business Model Innovation
The disruptive business models are those that surprisingly manage top to make new markets and
disrupt the existing markets. To discover these innovations, it requires a level of innovativeness and
open mindedness that will enable one to create new influential innovations. The discovery of a
business model innovation usually starts with customer value propositions and customer segment.
The business model brings about logic and provides vital data that demonstrates how a company
can formulate itself and provide valuable input to customers. Furthermore, it facilitates the setup of
revenue allocation, the costs and the various profit margins that the business delivers (Colovic,
2012).Furthermore, these different issues are also interrelated and, therefore, offer a competitive
advantage besides bringing in huge profit margins. Business models also provide a business design
and outlay that defines how the particular company can convert the various payments received into
profits, and help the company to excel as an innovation and as a business model, as well as to
understand the different business design options according to the customer needs and the various
technological advances. To develop a successful business model, one has to ensure that the
competitive advantage of the company remains a permanent part of it and that this model is
difficult to duplicate and redo. The business model brings about the financial and organizational
architecture of the particular business. The

The Case Of William Marbury Deserved The Commission Or Not
This case was a case for the ages that challenged the very decision of our newly elected president.
The former President Adam after a grueling election has lost and in order to maintain the legacy of
the Federalist, he began to appoint justices to the Supreme Court. These judges were appointed by
the president and confirmed by the Senate, but unfortunately for these justices, the letters that
confirmed the appointment never reached the potential justices. Adams was working quickly to
push the appointments through, but unfortunately he ran out of time and Jefferson took office.
Jefferson saw the appointment letters on his desk and discarded them. One of the potential justices
was William Marbury and he sued the president for his Supreme Court appointment. His goal was
to have the court to order a writ of mandamus, which if completed, would order a government
official to fulfil their official duties. The Chief justice presented three questions that needed to be
decided by the court. The first issue addressed was whether William Marbury deserved the
commission or not. The court opened the questioned if the law had a remedy for the situation. The
final question was whether the writ of mandamus the appropriate legal action in the case. These
questions were debated and the court confirmed that Marbury deserved the commission, but they
found that the Judiciary Act of 1789 which allowed the court to submit the very writ of mandamus
Marbury needed was unconstitutional. According

Young Goodman Brown Research Paper
The way the theme of evil is shown in Young Goodman brown is through the adventure in the
forest. In most stories the forest is always symbolized with a negative effect. It is shown with evil
and something bad to become which is the case in Goodman Brown. As he journeys out of his little
town to go for his adventure he leave his wife which is named Faith, showing symbolism of evil to
come through the adventure through the forest. Predmore states, As he leaves Faith he knows that
hes night journey has an evil purpose (251). This shows that GoodmanBrown is leaving his faith

Before Goodman Brown ventures out his journey is seen as a peaceful good one but as soon as
he enters the forest everything begins to turn left for him. Hawthorne uses negative nouns to
explain the forest, which you could portray as evil He had taken a dreary road, darkened by all
the gloomiest trees of the forest (Hawthorne, 453). This then shows the contrast between light
and dark which would be explained as good vs evil. According to Hurley in Heart Of Darkness
Goodman Brown s alliance with evil is suggested by contrasting images of light and dark which
intimate a symbolic opposition between good and evil. The forest holds such a strong symbol of
fear and evil that terms like devil witch were commonly used to describe what Goodman Brown
was feeling or seeing There may be a devilish Indian behind every tree, said Goodman Brown to
himself. (Hawthorne, 453) The setting of this short story was in Salem, Massachusetts which

Organizational Culture As A Key Aspect That Influences...
Introduction
Engineering management is the science and art of organizing, staffing, planning, controlling and
directing work processes so as to obtain and achieve shared objectives and goals. Again, in
organizational culture, the discipline mainly deals with five human resources that include
machines, money, materials and time. When all that is obtained, an engineer in management should
inculcate the proper, efficient and effective utilization of resources in a short period with minimal
costs. For that purpose, in organizational culture, engineering management is considered as art
because it utilizes the skills and techniques of engineers doing work activities. Moreover, it is

Consequently, the values are passed on from one generation or a group of people to another through
imitation and communication. In academic study and education, organizational culture comes forth
as one of the key issues in both organizational theory and management. In corporate life, cultural
aspect is central in all aspects of organizational life. For that reason, how engineers in an
organization think, feel, value and act are aided by ideas, meanings and beliefs of cultural nature.
The success of an engineering manager is being judged continuously on qualitative measures
concerning the work elements of human workers. Cultural change mechanisms together with other
management equipment should ably aid construction managers. In so doing, concepts like just in
time, continuous performance improvement and total quality management should be viewed as
being integral to cultural change efforts. For that purpose, the measures mentioned earlier require
an engineer to be skilled at methods, tools and techniques of qualitative issues. In general, this
activity involves systematizing and formulating the company s resources to implement on the
objectives set in the planning stage (Vincenti 66). Managers ought to gather employees and discuss
the plans for the upcoming schedules. Information must be dispersed to the various markets so they

Essay 1 Person Centred Therapy
Evaluate the claim that Person Centred Therapy offers the therapist all that he/she will need to treat

Introduction
In this essay I will look at the claim that Person Centred Therapy offers the therapist all that he/she
will need to treat clients. Firstly, I will outline what Person Centred therapy is and look at what its
originator, Carl Rogers , theories behind this approach are. I will then discuss some of the criticisms
that have been made about Person Centred Therapy, and weigh them up to evaluate the strengths
and weaknesses of this therapeutic approach. In the conclusion I will reflect on my learning, and on
my own experiences and opinions.

This complete acceptance, without judgement and criticism, is important for a client to start to
value and accept themselves. In order for a therapist to be able to show unconditional positive regard
, they need to know, accept and value themselves and be in touch with their own values and morals.
I think that the more a therapist is accepting of who they are themselves, the better they will be able
to accept and respect their clients.
Congruence
Congruence can be explained as genuineness, being honest or real with the client. Congruence is
the state of being of the counsellor when her outward responses to her client consistently match the
inner feelings and sensations which she has in relation to the client. (Mearns and Thorne, 1999,
p84) The client must perceive the therapist as being real, in order to develop trust. Again this
requires a good awareness and self knowledge of the therapist.
Criticisms on Person Centred Therapy
Rogers himself was aware of the criticism expressed about his theories by people who prefer other
therapeutic approaches. He describes in Chapter 5 in his book Client Centred Therapy, three
questions raised by other viewpoints . One of the questions from therapists with a psycho analytical
orientation is how a Person Centred therapist deals with transference , which is the repetition by the

Hadri Homosexuality In Ancient Rome
Hadrian was a Roman emperor who had an intriguing biographical background that after many
centuries fascinates society. Hadrian was known as a compassionate and traveling emperor because
he concentrated on the rebirth of the Roman Empire. He is notable for his passion for Greek art,
literature, philosophy, architecture and more prominently his obsessive infatuation of an otherwise
unimportant man, Antinous.
Hadrian s parent died while he was a child and Emperor Trajan raised him. Young Hadrian grew
in splendor within the walls of the imperial palace and made rapid progress in his career. With
success on his side, Trajan, adopted Hadrian as his son and appointed him successor of the Roman
Empire. His diplomatically arranged marriage to Vibia Sabina was far from a marriage of love and

Social attitudes about homosexuality in ancient Rome differed remarkably to those assumptions of
the contemporary Western civilization. The Greeks and Romans had no concept of homosexuality
or heterosexuality; the ancient world was exceptionally tolerant of homosexuality, or more
specifically bisexuality, as these relationships had been present even in Trajan s reign. Male
prostitutes were appropriately common on the streets, however, what was of great consequence
within the sexual relationship between two men were age and the status of sexual dominance and
sexual submission (Potts). Men were free to take part in sexual behaviors with other men without
any perceived loss of social status, provided that the older male of higher status was in the
commanding position. This status reflected on ones manhood and masculinity, the role of the

The Short Story Of The Decameron
The Decameron: Day four story two
Here ends the third day of the Decameron and the fourth day begins: under the reign of
Philostrato, the stories are about people whose love has ended in tears (249). In the second story
of the fourth day, our story teller Pampinea is more inclined to delight rather than dispirit her
audience. While staying within the days brief, she challenges the blind obedience to the kings
hand by using her wit to forge a tragic comic relief tale. Before beginning her story, Pampinea
feels it is of urgency to take the time to set up her feelings about the clergy. She reveals that her
story allows her to demonstrate the lengths to which the religious orders go in their hypocrisy
(265). Clergyman, with their feeble facade, are courteous when they are out begging others to
show them mercy when they show no mercy to people who have commited the same sins that
they have committed themselves. They spend their whole lives receiving instead of giving. While
others have to strive in order to be allowed into heaven, clergyman seem to take on the role as
rightful landowners of heaven, assigning each departing soul a better or worse place according to
the amount of financial generosity they allow to them. With that being said, Pampinea is able to

Interpreting The Song Halo
CHOICE
The hit song Halo was performed by BeyoncГ© Knowles. Ryan Tedder (lead vocalist of
OneRepublic), Evan Bogart and BeyoncГ© composed it. Halo will always be one of my
favorite BeyoncГ© songs because she sings it with such a powerful voice that fits with the song
and the lyrics, also not to mention the deep meaning behind the song. The great storyline and
bold lyrics was a huge factor in choosing to analyze this song. I like to listen to BeyoncГ© songs
and some of my favorites are: 7/11, If I were a Boy, Flawless, Loveon Top and Lemonade. In my
opinion, BeyoncГ© is and always will be a music legend. MEANING
Halo is a song about a woman who had been hurt by a past relationship and built walls around
herself so she would never experience heartbreak again. ( Remember those walls I built? Well,
baby they re tumbling down ) But then she meets a guy who she calls her angel or saving grace

The song starts off with a choir singing and violins playing softly. One of the key factors in the
mood of the song is the background music. Throughout the song the singers keep echoing halo
with the instruments also playing and BeyoncГ© always finds a way to match her voice to the
rhythm and tone of the music. This also creates a loud sound. I wouldn t consider Halo as a sad
song, more so moderate and full of compassion. The instruments used are: violin, cello, piano,
keyboard and bass drums. The instruments used give off a warm sentimental tender feeling when
combined with BeyoncГ© s voice and the background

The Influence of the Media in Shaping the Public s Understanding of Crime
With the rise of the mass media throughout the world, predominantly the Western world, the issue
of media influence has become a serious one. Due to media s primary obsession with crime and
violence, it definitely has a negative influence on shaping peoples understanding of crime by
exaggerating it. A branch of media which always exaggerates on some crime e.g. terrorist attacks

It is clear that crime constitutes a major realm of societal concern.
Initial focus in this essay will be on how influential media is on peoples understanding of crime
through exaggeration. The subject of Cohen s and Hall et al work on moral panic will be largely
touched upon. A basic understanding Wilkins theory would be mentioned, finally a conclusion
would be drawn up.
Maguire (2002) Mass media representations of crime, deviance, and disorder have been a
returning cause of concern. Two competing anxieties can be discerned in public debate, and both
are reflected in a large research literature. On one hand the media are often seen as fundamentally
subversive, on the other as a more or less subtle form of social control.
Those who see the media as subversive see media representation or crime themselves as a
significant cause of offending. This has been a constantly recurring theme. A different concern
about media representation of crime has worried liberals and radicals. To them the media are the
cause not of crime itself but of exaggerated public alarm about law and order, generating support for
repressive solutions. Cohen (1972) states the fundamental theme of the radical

In the personal essay My Mothers Tongue (1990), Amy Tan, widely known author explains her
insights on language and culture identity using details and memories from her own life
experiences. Tan conceals that the language in which her mother used with her was the language
that helped shape the way [she] saw things, expressed things, made sense of the world (1208) and
in the process it made her who she is today as an author. Tan illuminates the euro centricity of the
Master Narrativeby retelling stories of her mother being treated poorly because of her broken or
limited English. She recalls many past experiences where her mother suffered from bad service and
treatment from restaurants, stockbrokers, and even hospitals. Using examples from her personal
life Tan gets her point across about language and culturecharacteristics in order to show how
Chinese culture is affected by the master narrative and also encourages others to include a variety
of cultures in order to overcome bias opinions. Tan s apparent audience can be ranged from the
child of an immigrant to a doctor and offers an authentic and rich portrayal of Chinese history

Children Viewing Violence on Television Essay
Children Viewing Violence on Television
In virtually all American households, a television is present. Through this electronic device, the
public receives different messages. The main use of the television is for entertainment purposes.
The programs on television usually mirror and enhance the different aspects of American culture.
People ranging from infants to elderly adults watch television, the subject matter that is appropriate
for these different age groups varies. Yet, television is indiscriminate of age presenting any topic to
whoever chooses to view it. The television of today contains various aspects of society and

In 73 percent of violent scenes, the perpetrators go unpunished possibly leading children to
assume violence is successful and acceptable. About half of the violent acts on television show no
harm to the victim and more than half show no pain. Handguns are involved in one out of every
four violent confrontations. Surprisingly, children s programs often present violence as funny and
rarely shows long term consequences for violent actions. These programs viewed by children do
not offer violence in an appropriate context ( TV Violence and Kids 234).
As noted on the National Coalition on Television Violences homepage one can see the effects of
television violence on children simply by observing kids at any playground. These children are
pretending to be Batman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Power Rangers. These are the heroes
of today s children. These heroes are not chosen due to character, but by physical strength. The
strongest and most violent are usually chosen by young people as the heroes to imitate. These

Rob Parson s performance assessment
The performance assessment of Rob Parson should be separated into two parts, the external

So if I were Nasr, for the first goal I would first go through the feedback from the 360 degree
performance appraisal with Rob Parson. After going through both the strength and weakness
sated on the feedback, I would give my own assessment to him and talk about his exceptional
performance and production. Next, I would ask Parson how he feels about his job situation and
possibly suggest ways in which he can change. In this area, I would like look more closely at his
situation (those situation he breaks the rule) .For example, Parson think that in the fast
changing business world, it is difficult to make a consensus with his co worker before he takes
action. And I would determine what should be the best action to take when face such situation.
Then I would discuss the promotion with Rob Parson. I would explain to Parson that he needs
to possess certain management and leadership skills in order to be eligible for that position. I
would say that if he keeps up his production and creates goals to improve these skills, then he will
be able to get the promotion. I would make sure that my tone will not to be too aggressive so that
we don t lose him, but also not too weak in emphasizing the organization s values and culture.
The promotion can be used as a developmental goal for Rob Parson to achieve if he is willing to set

The Duality of Man in Literary Works and Critical Essays
Unseen Ties: Codependency and Fallout in the Dual Brain interpreted from Literary Works and
Critical Essays The lifelong struggle for control and recognition of the human mind has been a
popular and evolving science since the late nineteenth century. Many notable authors, scientists, and
laymen have been fascinated with the study since then. Robert Louis Stevensonis one of the more
notable authors to write about dual personalities with his short story, Markheim, and the novella,
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The latter of these two stories has inspired the study
of multiple personalities more than any other work of fiction, and perhaps any work of nonfiction.
According to Anne Stiles, [Stevenson s wife] traces her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the title provides irony in respect to murder
being an aggressive act, and hiding being something less. Stevenson s use of Utterson, who is a
dry, skeptical, and narrow minded character to narrate the story suffers irony itself, considering
the story is quite fantastic and irrational. Also, with Dr. Lanyon being the closest person
historically to Henry Jekyll, Lanyon is in the dark the longest, being the last to meet Ed Hyde.
Ironically, being the last to meet Mr. Hyde, he becomes the first to learn Jekyll s dark secret, as
Hyde comes out of the closet. The title that the author gives to the doctor, Henry Jekyll, M.D,
D.C.L, LL.D, F.R.S, gives the reader the impression that this is a very well educated, stable,
busy, and important person (Stevenson 470). Clearly, a man with those responsibilities would
have a full life, and no need to create an evil twin. This proves to be untrue, and the basis for the
story. This exemplifies the old adage; you can never have too much, especially if what you have
isn t making you happy. Henry Jekyll s desire to live unchecked is responsible for the creation of
Hyde. This in turn leads to the decision to commit suicide as the only way to prevent Hyde from
continuing his destructive ways. This demonstrates the ironic nature of the ego and the id.
Depending on the perspective, control of the Jekyll/Hyde beast becomes subjective.

Drugs Control Lives
Drugs Control Lives The long lasting effects on drugs can be destructive. Once you ve become
hooked on drugs they can make you do things you never thought would happen. It always starts
out just wanting to try it to see what it does to you, but usually once you ve started it becomes a
habit. A habit that you start having no control over, and before you know it you ve lost everything
that was important to you. People I know have become victims to drugs and it is sad to see the
outcome from choosing drugs to rule your life. Because of drug use, people hurt their family

Parents that use drugs usually fight and argue in front of their children and are generally
abusive. This could lead to their child being a bully at school or constantly trying to start fights
and talk back to their teachers. Children that grow up around drugs are more likely to try drugs
at a young age. This could lead to them taking the drugs to school and trying to give or sell them
to friends. I ve heard a lot about youngers kids going to whitfield county schools that have
brought drugs to school and ended up getting caught. These kids end up being expelled from
school or being sent to a juvenile correctional facility. Kids that grow up this way end up being
the same as their parents, because that s all they have known their whole lives. Choosing to let
drugs control your everyday life can completely destroy you. Not only will it hurt you, but also
your family and friends who truly care about you. It will make you lose your job, your friends,

Essay On The Father Figure In Romeo And Juliet
A father figure is someone who is respected for his paternal qualities and may be an emotional
substitute for a father. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story where a pair of
star cross d lovers take their lives when their feuding families prevent them from being together.
When Romeo and Juliet fall in love, Friar Lawrence plays a pivotal role acting as a father figure
which influences several actions in the play. Friar s role as a father figure in Romeo and Juliet
is central to understanding his support for Romeo s love for Juliet, his advice for Romeo to go
to Mantua, and his guidance for Juliet to fake her death. Friar s acceptance for Romeo s love for
Juliet is one way that Shakespeare portrays his role as a father figure in the play. An example of
this can be seen in Act 2, Scene 3 when Friar reprimands Romeo just as a father would for being
out all night and falling in love with another girl. The Friar states, Young men s love then lies
/ Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes. Friar says this to Romeo when he has fallen in love
with a girl named Juliet so soon after being in love with Rosaline. This proves how Friar acts as
a father because he cares for Romeo and his well being even though he is not his son. He takes
the time to understand Romeo s situation and give him some useful advice on what his next
steps should be. Friar s support for Romeo s love is just one way Shakespeare portrays his
fatherly figure in the tragic play of Romeo and Juliet. Secondly, Friar is at his most fatherly when
Romeo has killed Tybalt and is distressed about being banished. The Friar tells Romeo to go to
Mantua and be patient until things have settled down in the town of Verona. After some time has
passed and fixed some issues, Friar tells Romeo that the two lovers can once again be reunited. He
states: But look thou stay not till the watch be set, For then thou canst not pass to Mantua, Where
thou shalt live till we can find a time To blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends, Beg pardon of
the Prince, and call thee back With twenty hundred thousand times more joy Than thou

Grendel As A Hero Essay
The Old English epic Beowulf is the earliest recorded poem in Old English. The story is set in
Scandinavia with the antagonist Grendel. Gendel is a monster and an insensitive character.
Grendel was born into a monster and was cursed his entire life. Although Grendel was strong he
wasn t very brave because he only attacks at night when the guards are asleep. He has many
characteristics that a monster would have. First and foremost, he was raised to be evil, and never
had the chance to be good. Also whenever he would hear joy, he would be filled with anger and
hatred. Grendellikes killing people he doesn t feel any remorse after killing people. An example
from the story that shows this is Snatched up thirty men, smashed them unknowing in their beds
and out with their bodies (Genesis,pg 4). Talking about Grendel ties in with our next evil
antagonist known as Cain. Cain is the son of Adam and Eve. He was a farmer who was jealous of

Chivalry In Today s Society
In today s society when the word chivalry is discussed we usually think back to medieval times
where knights were atop horses in shining armor. What is chivalry? Chivalry is the act and
responsibility of a person to have respect and courtesy in everyday situations. Although in today s
world we assume that it was only a thing from the past, an old relic from the time of knights and
castles, but really chivalry is still alive and prominent in modern times.
If you go to a restaurant or store today you will most likely see some examples of someone being
chivalrous. For example, at a restaurant you may see someone pull out another s chair or not have
their elbows on the dinner table while they eat, this shows manners and respect while eating. At
stores you may see someone hold open the door for someone to go through or see two strangers
help each other with groceries; this is what being chivalrous in our world looks like. What this all
shows are that even though we aren t aware of it at the time chivalrous acts are always happening
around us wherever we go and that in fact chivalry is not dead. These acts whether consciously
made or unconsciously made just show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But in today s world it is highly unlikely for someone to die over something like chivalry.
Although both eras have completely different interpretations of being chivalrous where one
would die over it and the other just thinks of it as another daily thing, they can both relate to how
chivalry has stood the test of time. For instance, during medieval times one of the main points of
chivalry was being respectful and courteous to ladies, the same can be said about chivalry in
modern times because in today s world we think of chivalry mainly when we are with the
opposite sex. This just shows how ideals from before are still around today even if they have
changed a bit, it shows how chivalry is indeed not

Oj Simpson Reflection
After watching O.J. Made in America, I gained a different perspective of O.J Simpson and the
understanding of how society was back in the early 50 s. When I had first heard of O.J Simpson
it was not about football or him being in movies, it was about how he had brutally murdered his
wife at the time and her lover. Along with hearing about how he had brutally murdered the two,
it was known how he was self centered, very egocentric and would try to talk his way out of
everything which the film had stated. In the beginning of the film it showed O.J Simpson in
court, being asked if he was first arrested at the age of 46. Then instantly moved forward to how
his football career started. I feel like the director did this to show how O.J was before the
allegation of him being convicted of manslaughter. High school he was known for football and
eventually a college recruiter scouted him from the University of South California. Furthering
his fame with football he was known in college for the run . The run was when USC was playing
against UCLA. When USC was losing badly within 11 minutes O.J made a touch down making
the win for USC. Finally From there the New York Buffalo s coach recruited him where later on
he had retired from the football fame to now being an actor.Although the majority of the film in
Part 1 was of O.J s football career it also showed how heavy segregation, police brutality, and the
civil rights movement were. The documenter stated how significant segregation was

The Technique of Grafting in Agriculture
I. INTRODUCTION
The technique of grafting dates back to the beginning of agriculture. Although it can be labor
intensive, grafting has continued to be used in fruit and nut trees because of the immense benefits.
Different plants produce different qualities of fruits and nuts, and not always consistently. And,
because tree fruits are nearly impossible to reproduce from cuttings, grafting has become the most
popular technique for fruit tree propagation. Grafting helps to produce a superior and highly valued
crop (Hartmann, Kester, Davies, Geneve, 2011). New markets continue to require grafted and
budded plants for improved plant quality, fruit yield, superior forms, and better adaptation to greater
ecological ranges (Hartmann et al. 2011).
This paper will take a closer look at the technique of grafting, where it originated from, its
developments over time, and the impact it has had on agriculture.
II. DEFINITION Grafting can be described as the natural or deliberate fusion of plant parts so
that vascular continuity is established between them and the resulting genetically composite
organism functions as a single plant (Mudge, Janick, Scofield, Goldschmidt, 2009). In other
words, it involves taking part of one tree and attaching it to part of another tree. For example, a
section of a stem with leaf buds might be inserted into the stock of a tree. Many times one plant is
selected for its roots, called the stock or rootstock, and the other plant is selected for

Comparing King Lear And The Confessions By Saint Augustine
While King Lear and Edmund are unable to reach truth, in The Confessions by Saint Augustine,
Augustine is able to discover truth through divine intervention and his experiences. Augustine s
Confessions is essentially a narrative of Augustine s search for truth and his journey towards
discovering it. His delight in truth...[and] unwilling[ness] to be deceived (32) drives him to seek for
truth, and his multitudes and layers of questions reflect his thirst for truth. Augustine asks questions
such as How should the Godwho made heaven and earth come into me? (14) and How did [God]
make heaven and earth (226). Through questions, Augustine wrestles with issues including the
nature of God and man, the origin of sin in man, and the relationship... Show more content on

In King Lear, characters mainly struggle with finding truth about themselves and other people
and separating truth from deception, while in The Confessions, Augustine struggles with
theological and moral truths. These truths, though different, are able to be found if we are
willing to look for them. From Augustine, we see that truth is given to us; it is right in front of
us, and if we seek it like Augustine did, we are able to discover it. While, we cannot always say
that we have found truth, we can say that we have gotten closer to truth. What we see as true will
evolve, but that is just the process of getting us closer to the real truth. In King Lear, readers have
clear view of the truth, but some of the characters are unable to see the truth because of their
unwillingness to accept it. Saint Augustine, Lear, and Edmund all show that truth requires
acceptance from us. Saint Augustine had to learn to accept the scriptures and overcome his lust,
Lear had to overcome his pride in order to come to a better understanding of himself and those
around him, and Edmund was unable to respond appropriately to reality because of the wealth and
titles he wanted for himself. While truth can be found, sometimes we are unable to see truth
because we don t want to accept it. By rejecting the truth, we try to create our own realities and
believe what we want to believe rather than what truth is telling

A Catalyst For Evil In Lord Of The Flies
A Catalyst for Evil in Lord of the Flies Over time, people can grow twisted and evil through their
experiences. Evil is knowing you are doing wrong or wanting to do something wrongful. In Lord
of the Flies, the characters convey Philip Zimbardo s theory of anonymity, conformity, and
boredom by demonstrating how those three theories can be a catalyst for evil. Philip Zimbardo is
a psychologist who once was the president of American Psychological Association. Anonymity is
the first catalyst for evil in Philip Zimbardo s theory that is demonstrated by the school boys in
Lord of the Flies. These facts can be found in Lord of the Flies and Finding Hope in Knowing the

The kids in Lord of the Flies and the police force in Finding Hope in Knowing the Universal
Capacity for Evil both provide evidence of the evil of boredom. Evil began with Jack being
bored with just hunting and keeping the fire going, so he tried to change things up. When he
did, he caused issues such as Piggy s death. Right after the death he screamed at Ralph I m Chief
he also said There isn t a tribe for you anymore! The conch is gone (Golding 181). Jack meaning
behind this is there is no order left. In the Finding Hope in Knowing the Universal Capacity for
Evil the University of Stanford did a risky experiment that Philip described. Zimbardo says,
Boredom is a powerful motive for evil (Dreifus). He even went on to describe some of the evil
acts the guards did to the prisoners: starving them, not allowing them to sleep, dragging their
naked bodies in the yard, and more. The biggest thing is that the prisoners were heavily beaten
(Dreifus). Beating people is an evil thing, so in conclusion, boredom can grow to be an evil

Freud s Theory Of The Oedipus Complex By Sigmund Freud
INTRODUCTION
Oedipus Complex
The Oedipus complex otherwise called mother fixation is a mental inclination of a man. This
term is used by Sigmund Freud as a part of his hypothesis of Psychosexual Stages of Development
to depict a kid s emotions of yearning for his mother and jealousy and outrage towards his father.
Basically, a kid feels like he is in rivalry with his father for possession of his mother. He sees his
father as a rival for her considerations and affections.
Greek Mythology
Oedipus King is about the story of Oedipus who murders his father and weds his mother, which is
the prototype of the Oedipus complex in Psychology. The protagonist or the hero of the tragedy is

Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo has a lot of hidden meaning in the story. Most people can interpret stories in
different ways than others, especially children. I interpret that, in Finding Nemo, Marlin not
only wants what is best for Nemo, but what is best for the both of them. Don t be stubborn and
not listen to your parents because they always know what s best for you. I think Marlin s
definition of what s best for them is a little different than most. He wants to rebuild their colony
by repopulating. As a child I viewed this as just a regular movie, like every child would. No kid
is going to know the reproductive process of clown fish. I used to think that it was about
friendship between Nemo and Dory, and that if you re in times of need, there will always be a
friend that will help you, no matter where you are. It was my favorite movie due to these reasons: it
made me happy that Nemo wasn t going through it alone. Everyone views things differently.
Most people interpret Finding Nemo in a whole entirely different way. It is meant to be portrayed
as expressing the type of things a father would go through to save his son. The theme of this
movie is to not be stubborn and listen because your parents always know what s best for you. Most
people would picture it this way, but there is an entirely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why People Should Have The Right To Rescue Services
Yes, I believe people should have the right to rescue services even if they put themselves at their
own risks for multiple reasons. My first reason is that it s their job to protect and serve everyone
including people who put themselves at their own risk. The next reason is everyone is always
putting themselves at their owns risks when they step outside the door. My final reason is service
members want to help all people.
Have you ever wondered why rescue services exist? If you answered yes you probably came up
with to rescue people so here s the main question, why would some get rescued but not others if
we re all putting ourselves at danger? Part of being a rescue service member is to help people
who are in danger so whether you re putting yourself at a risk or others are putting you at risk you
should still have the right to rescue services. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Video game and the benefit it has on children Since the turn of the Millennium, Video game
began to solidify itself as a leading source of entertainment and as a result it also became widely

you just need basic features of a smart phone, you do not need to pay premium for extra features
of the fancy yet expensive one such as HTC One M8 or SamSung Galaxy S5. It is such a waste
when you actually do not need those fancy features. Furthermore, the shiny, smooth and catchy

Fortunately, you need to pay only extra $50 to get 64 GB version, quite a good deal when you
compare it with other phones. 4G LTE One of the things you need to consider when you decide
to buy OnePlus One is that its 4G LTE does not work on every network. You better check out the
list of bands that the One supports: 1, 3, 4, 7, 17, 38 and 40, the list of 4G LTE networks in your
country to see whether it works or not. Since you cannot try, you had better be careful with it
unless you want to regret your decision. However, it is not a big deal if you do not use 4G,
maybe you cannot utilize the fast data speed but you are still able to make calls, using 3G, Wi Fi
and so on. The only thing that disappoints you is you paying for what you do not use. It is such a
waste. Software and features Based on Android KitKat 4.4, the OnePlus One runs on

Advantages Of Binary Options
correcttrade.net What Are Binary Options? Guide for Newbies August 3rd, 2016
Headline: What Are Binary Options A Complete Guide for the Newbies
Unlike conventional forms of trading, binary options trading is a fairly simple way to earn high
payouts within a short time period. Traders choose an asset (e.g. Apple stock, Gold, GBP/USD
currency pair, S P 500 index), decide on a trade amount, and predict whether the asset price will
go up or down at the expiration time. If the trader predicts that the asset value would rise at the
expiration time, he executes a Call option. On the contrary, he places a Put option if he predicts
the asset price will fall. He gets a pre determined payout if his prediction is correct. If the
prediction is incorrect, he loses a part of his investment.
What are the advantages of binary options?
Binary options trading offers several advantages in contrast to the traditional forms of trading. Here

portfolio by executing trades on multiple assets simultaneously.
Extended trading hours: Another advantage of binary options trading is the ability to enjoy
extended trading hours. Brokers who offer a wide range of assets enable the traders to trade
around the clock, as the U.K, U.S., and the Asian markets do not open and close at the same time
and have different trading hours. This lets the users constantly execute binary options trades on the
assets listed at all these international markets within a span of 24 hours.

Eddie Aikau Research Paper
Being a native to Hawaii was a helpful push towards legendary status for Eddie Aikau. The act of
riding waves with a wooden type board originated in Western Polynesia over three thousand years
ago (The Origins of Surfing). The first Polynesian settlers to land in Hawaii were said to be skilled
in simple surfing, and after a few hundred years of riding waves in Hawaii, the well known
Hawaiian form of the sport emerged (The Origins of Surfing). Eddie Aikau propelled in surfing
because of his love for the ocean, his job as a lifeguard, and his first surfing competitions.
Eddie Aikau s love for the ocean shined through on a surfboard. Most people enjoy the ocean in
the summer months when the ocean is placid and family friendly but Eddie loved the ocean all
year around. (Pasulka). When it came to surfing, it was never a competition for Eddie. Surfing
for Eddie was a connection to the ocean and the ancestral roots that were found within each
wave he rode (Rolland). Surfing was symbolized as being one of the last traditional arts that the
Hawaiian people practiced, and when Eddie surfed, it was a revival for his people every time he
was in the water (Rolland). The ocean symbolized so much for Eddie Aikau and ... Show more

Essay about Lessons in Leadership in Demian
Lessons in Leadership in Demian
In Demian, Hesse uses a comparison to the Biblical story of Cain and Abel to convey his ideas
about those who are different. The idea arises again and again, causing the reader to look at it
from a very unique perspective. Through this comparison, the reader begins to see the mark of
Cain as a positive symbol as the mark of those who would lead the world into the future of mankind,
without fear.
When Emil Sinclair first meets Max Demian, he sees that Demian is not like anyone he has ever
known. Unconsciously, he views Demian as having a mark something that sets him apart from the
others. Sinclair isn t sure if it is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is important in explaining how both Demian and Sinclair are so separate from the others:
they bear this metaphorical mark. This explains, also, the characters in the book toward which
Sinclair is drawn Frau Eva, Pistorius, Beatrice; all people whom are different from the herd. This
notion of superiority is supported constantly throughout the novel, but never quite so clearly as
when Demian demonstrates his inherently stronger will. He somehow scares Kromer, Sinclair s
childhood tormentor, away; he stares down the Confirmation class teacher in order to sit wherever
he likes. Being so much stronger and bolder than others, he is capable of exerting his will over
theirs. This is a product of that which his mark implies.
People such as these do, in fact, exist in the real world. They are not just creations of an
imagination in application to the Biblical tale of Cain and Abel. Though the difference in these
stronger, perhaps better, people is not quite so apparent in reality as in Demian, they do bear the
same sort of mark. These people are the ones who show no fear, who innovate and create without
concern for the standards of others. They write novels such as Demian and The Fountainhead; they
sculpt statues like the Madonna della Piet aacute;. They are wise, intelligent, and bold.

Essay On Genre Analysis
How I approached writing my Genre Analysis:
I approached my genre writing based on Writing in the Health Sciences guidelines for research
papers. Since my chosen paper was a research paper, I looked for the sections in a research paper
that included the abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, and references.
This helped me decide what needed to be in each section so I could elaborate on if it was included
or was not.
How I found my sources:
I started out by going through articles on google scholar and found the one that made me most
interested. I have known people that have smoked during pregnancy and what happened to their
child so I wanted to see if children could potentially have asthma from their mom smoking. ... Show

Here I also stated if my paper had that convention and if they had any variation in a research paper
regarding to Writing in the Health Sciences. This helped me write my paper because we were to
describe each convention in our genre analysis so it gave me a start. It also helped me analyze
the effectiveness of the genre which was step 4 in our paper. Here in step 4 I think was my most
difficult part in the paper because after gaining your input on that you should not say I believe I
understand why it sounds more confident. I will now write my ideas as such, but then when
proofreading go back and delete it because it sounds better stating why x causes y.
What went well in my Genre Analysis:
After receiving your comment on my genre analysis paper, I noticed that I did have a lot of
information in my paper. I went over the minimum word count because I felt that it was necessary
because I wanted to incorporate the information from the study into my paper. What also went
well in my paper was that I appropriately cited information in APA, which included in text
citations and references. If I did these wrong, I wish you could tell me since from my
understanding I did them right and want to do well on the test paper.
What did not go well in my Genre

Foils In Romeo And Juliet
What is a foil? Right away some may think of the aluminum sheets to cover or make things out
of. When thinking of a foil in the literature language, it creates a whole different mindset. A foil is
when two characters personalities are completely opposite from one another to accentuate each
other. William Shakespeare, writer of the love story Romeo and Juliet uses foils greatly among the
Montagues and Capulets. The Montagues and Capulets are the two families who have a rivalry
with each other. Their hate for each other causes a lot of unnecessary drama especially when it
comes between the love of young Romeo and sweet Juliet. Foils do make the story more interesting
to show how one can change another with a different personality. Mercutio

Impossibility Of Moral Responsibility Analysis
The Illusion of Free Will or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Embrace the Basic Argument
Arguments pro et contra the possibility of free will inevitably attempt to answer the question on

impossible, but it necessarily follows, whether or not determinismturns out to be true or false. It is
my contention that Strawson s argument is correct, and it is impossible for us to be responsible

Essay Biography of Edgar Allan Poe
Biography of Edgar Allan Poe
Many authors literary works are often influenced by their own personal life experiences. Among
these authors is Edgar Allan Poe, one of the most inventive writers of prose and poetry in the
nineteenth century. The juxtaposition of Poe s life and work is most evident in the morbid
personalities and melancholy themes of his literary compositions, similar to those of his life.
Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 19, 1809. His mother, Elizabeth
Arnold Poe, had been widowed at eighteen, and two years after his birth she died of tuberculosis
at the age of twenty four. Poe s paternal grandfather had been a wealthy man, but his father, David
Poe, had left the family to become an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many ways she became the mother he had lost so many years ago. (Meyers, 1992, p.17).
Tragically, Jane Stanard was dying from a malignant brain tumor. By the spring of 1824 she was
confined to her bed and Edgar was not allowed to see her. When she died insane on April 28,
Edgar was devastated. Like his mother, she had deserted him, dying a painful death at a young
age. Helen became Edgar s ideal woman unattainable, beautiful, and doomed. In Edgar s mind,
beauty was now forever linked with death. (Meyers, 1992 p.17).
Perhaps as a way of holding in to the memory of Jane, Poe composed To Helen, which eloquently
describes his beloved, and the beauty and purity he saw in her. In the first of the poem s three
stanzas, Poe compares Helen s beauty to the ships of Nicea, a city near the Sea of Marmara. In
the second stanza he refers to her Naiad airs. According to Greek and Roman mythology a naiad
is a spirit that occupies springs, fountains rivers, and lakes. Her Naiad airs, we are told, have
brought the poet home To the glory that was Greece/ And the grandeur that was Rome. In the
poem s last stanza, he refers to Helen as Psyche, a Greek personification of the soul. Poe s ode to
his first love, written at the youthful age of just fifteen, is one of his most famous compositions.

Compare Fahrenheit 451 And Lamb To The Slaughter
She s Had Enough
Does the strength of a marriage have any influence on the length one spouse will go to to protect
the other? Mildred, in Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, and Mary, in Lamb to the Slaughter, a
short story by Roald Dahl, both have marriages that are falling apart. This eventually led both of
the wives to betray their husbands. While some differences between Mildred and Mary are
evident, the similarities are striking. Mildred embraced the bizarre norms of her dystopian society,
and Mary defied the typical role of a 1960 s wife. In both stories, the fragility of their marriages
ultimately caused both wives to betray their husbands in fatal ways.
In both the novel and the short story, Mary and Mildred s marriages are collapsing. Although both
Mary and Mildred may recognize that their marriages are weak, both pretend that everything is fine.
In Fahrenheit 451, Montag, Mildred s husband, realizes that he and Mildred don t know much
about each other and he says, Funny, how funny, not to remember where or when you met your
husband r wife (Bradbury 43). This scene doesn t faze Mildred as she can t comprehend the failure
of their marriage. Similarly, in Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary s marriage continues to crumble as
Patrick comes home and says, I know it s kind of a bad time to be telling you, but there is simply
no other way which implies that he has bad news for her. Patrick then tells Mary that he wants a
divorce (Dahl 381). Just like Mildred, Mary purposely

  • 11. The Case Of William Marbury Deserved The Commission Or Not This case was a case for the ages that challenged the very decision of our newly elected president. The former President Adam after a grueling election has lost and in order to maintain the legacy of the Federalist, he began to appoint justices to the Supreme Court. These judges were appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate, but unfortunately for these justices, the letters that confirmed the appointment never reached the potential justices. Adams was working quickly to push the appointments through, but unfortunately he ran out of time and Jefferson took office. Jefferson saw the appointment letters on his desk and discarded them. One of the potential justices was William Marbury and he sued the president for his Supreme Court appointment. His goal was to have the court to order a writ of mandamus, which if completed, would order a government official to fulfil their official duties. The Chief justice presented three questions that needed to be decided by the court. The first issue addressed was whether William Marbury deserved the commission or not. The court opened the questioned if the law had a remedy for the situation. The final question was whether the writ of mandamus the appropriate legal action in the case. These questions were debated and the court confirmed that Marbury deserved the commission, but they found that the Judiciary Act of 1789 which allowed the court to submit the very writ of mandamus Marbury needed was unconstitutional. This then shows the contrast between light and dark which would be explained as good vs evil. According to Hurley in Heart Of Darkness Goodman Brown s alliance with evil is suggested by contrasting images of light and dark which intimate a symbolic opposition between good and evil. The forest holds such a strong symbol of fear and evil that terms like devil witch were commonly used to describe what Goodman Brown was feeling or seeing There may be a devilish Indian behind every tree, said Goodman Brown to himself. In The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the title provides irony in respect to murder being an aggressive act, and hiding being something less. Stevenson s use of Utterson, who is a dry, skeptical, and narrow minded character to narrate the story suffers irony itself, considering the story is quite fantastic and irrational. Also, with Dr. Lanyon being the closest person historically to Henry Jekyll, Lanyon is in the dark the longest, being the last to meet Ed Hyde. Ironically, being the last to meet Mr. Hyde, he becomes the first to learn Jekyll s dark secret, as Hyde comes out of the closet. The title that the author gives to the doctor, Henry Jekyll, M.D, D.C.L, LL.D, F.R.S, gives the reader the impression that this is a very well educated, stable, busy, and important person (Stevenson 470). Clearly, a man with those responsibilities would have a full life, and no need to create an evil twin. This proves to be untrue, and the basis for the story. This exemplifies the old adage; you can never have too much, especially if what you have isn t making you happy. Henry Jekyll s desire to live unchecked is responsible for the creation of Hyde. This in turn leads to the decision to commit suicide as the only way to prevent Hyde from continuing his destructive ways. This demonstrates the ironic nature of the ego and the id. • 30. Essay On The Father Figure In Romeo And Juliet A father figure is someone who is respected for his paternal qualities and may be an emotional substitute for a father. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story where a pair of star cross d lovers take their lives when their feuding families prevent them from being together. When Romeo and Juliet fall in love, Friar Lawrence plays a pivotal role acting as a father figure which influences several actions in the play. Friar s role as a father figure in Romeo and Juliet is central to understanding his support for Romeo s love for Juliet, his advice for Romeo to go to Mantua, and his guidance for Juliet to fake her death. Friar s acceptance for Romeo s love for Juliet is one way that Shakespeare portrays his role as a father figure in the play. An example of this can be seen in Act 2, Scene 3 when Friar reprimands Romeo just as a father would for being out all night and falling in love with another girl. The Friar states, Young men s love then lies / Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes. Friar says this to Romeo when he has fallen in love with a girl named Juliet so soon after being in love with Rosaline. This proves how Friar acts as a father because he cares for Romeo and his well being even though he is not his son. He takes the time to understand Romeo s situation and give him some useful advice on what his next steps should be. Friar s support for Romeo s love is just one way Shakespeare portrays his fatherly figure in the tragic play of Romeo and Juliet. Secondly, Friar is at his most fatherly when Romeo has killed Tybalt and is distressed about being banished. The Friar tells Romeo to go to Mantua and be patient until things have settled down in the town of Verona. After some time has passed and fixed some issues, Friar tells Romeo that the two lovers can once again be reunited. Gendel is a monster and an insensitive character. Grendel was born into a monster and was cursed his entire life. Although Grendel was strong he wasn t very brave because he only attacks at night when the guards are asleep. He has many characteristics that a monster would have. First and foremost, he was raised to be evil, and never had the chance to be good. Also whenever he would hear joy, he would be filled with anger and hatred. Grendellikes killing people he doesn t feel any remorse after killing people. • 33. Chivalry In Today s Society In today s society when the word chivalry is discussed we usually think back to medieval times where knights were atop horses in shining armor. What is chivalry? Chivalry is the act and responsibility of a person to have respect and courtesy in everyday situations. Although in today s world we assume that it was only a thing from the past, an old relic from the time of knights and castles, but really chivalry is still alive and prominent in modern times. If you go to a restaurant or store today you will most likely see some examples of someone being chivalrous. For example, at a restaurant you may see someone pull out another s chair or not have their elbows on the dinner table while they eat, this shows manners and respect while eating. At stores you may see someone hold open the door for someone to go through or see two strangers help each other with groceries; this is what being chivalrous in our world looks like. What this all shows are that even though we aren t aware of it at the time chivalrous acts are always happening around us wherever we go and that in fact chivalry is not dead. These acts whether consciously made or unconsciously made just show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although both eras have completely different interpretations of being chivalrous where one would die over it and the other just thinks of it as another daily thing, they can both relate to how chivalry has stood the test of time. For instance, during medieval times one of the main points of chivalry was being respectful and courteous to ladies, the same can be said about chivalry in modern times because in today s world we think of chivalry mainly when we are with the opposite sex. This just shows how ideals from before are still around today even if they have changed a bit, it shows how chivalry is indeed not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Oj Simpson Reflection After watching O.J. Made in America, I gained a different perspective of O.J Simpson and the understanding of how society was back in the early 50 s. When I had first heard of O.J Simpson it was not about football or him being in movies, it was about how he had brutally murdered his wife at the time and her lover. Along with hearing about how he had brutally murdered the two, it was known how he was self centered, very egocentric and would try to talk his way out of everything which the film had stated. In the beginning of the film it showed O.J Simpson in court, being asked if he was first arrested at the age of 46. Then instantly moved forward to how his football career started. I feel like the director did this to show how O.J was before the allegation of him being convicted of manslaughter. High school he was known for football and eventually a college recruiter scouted him from the University of South California. Furthering his fame with football he was known in college for the run . The run was when USC was playing against UCLA. When USC was losing badly within 11 minutes O.J made a touch down making the win for USC. Finally From there the New York Buffalo s coach recruited him where later on he had retired from the football fame to now being an actor.Although the majority of the film in Part 1 was of O.J s football career it also showed how heavy segregation, police brutality, and the civil rights movement were. • 35. The Technique of Grafting in Agriculture I. INTRODUCTION The technique of grafting dates back to the beginning of agriculture. Although it can be labor intensive, grafting has continued to be used in fruit and nut trees because of the immense benefits. Different plants produce different qualities of fruits and nuts, and not always consistently. And, because tree fruits are nearly impossible to reproduce from cuttings, grafting has become the most popular technique for fruit tree propagation. Grafting helps to produce a superior and highly valued crop (Hartmann, Kester, Davies, Geneve, 2011). New markets continue to require grafted and budded plants for improved plant quality, fruit yield, superior forms, and better adaptation to greater ecological ranges (Hartmann et al. 2011). This paper will take a closer look at the technique of grafting, where it originated from, its developments over time, and the impact it has had on agriculture. II. DEFINITION Grafting can be described as the natural or deliberate fusion of plant parts so that vascular continuity is established between them and the resulting genetically composite organism functions as a single plant (Mudge, Janick, Scofield, Goldschmidt, 2009). In other words, it involves taking part of one tree and attaching it to part of another tree. For example, a section of a stem with leaf buds might be inserted into the stock of a tree. Many times one plant is selected for its roots, called the stock or rootstock, and the other plant is selected for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In King Lear, characters mainly struggle with finding truth about themselves and other people and separating truth from deception, while in The Confessions, Augustine struggles with theological and moral truths. These truths, though different, are able to be found if we are willing to look for them. From Augustine, we see that truth is given to us; it is right in front of us, and if we seek it like Augustine did, we are able to discover it. While, we cannot always say that we have found truth, we can say that we have gotten closer to truth. What we see as true will evolve, but that is just the process of getting us closer to the real truth. In King Lear, readers have clear view of the truth, but some of the characters are unable to see the truth because of their unwillingness to accept it. Saint Augustine, Lear, and Edmund all show that truth requires acceptance from us. Saint Augustine had to learn to accept the scriptures and overcome his lust, Lear had to overcome his pride in order to come to a better understanding of himself and those around him, and Edmund was unable to respond appropriately to reality because of the wealth and titles he wanted for himself. While truth can be found, sometimes we are unable to see truth because we don t want to accept it. • 50. Foils In Romeo And Juliet What is a foil? Right away some may think of the aluminum sheets to cover or make things out of. When thinking of a foil in the literature language, it creates a whole different mindset. A foil is when two characters personalities are completely opposite from one another to accentuate each other. William Shakespeare, writer of the love story Romeo and Juliet uses foils greatly among the Montagues and Capulets. The Montagues and Capulets are the two families who have a rivalry with each other. Their hate for each other causes a lot of unnecessary drama especially when it comes between the love of young Romeo and sweet Juliet. Foils do make the story more interesting to show how one can change another with a different personality. Mercutio ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Impossibility Of Moral Responsibility Analysis The Illusion of Free Will or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Embrace the Basic Argument Arguments pro et contra the possibility of free will inevitably attempt to answer the question on whether or not moral responsibility is possible. In Impossibility of Moral Responsibility philosopher Galen Strawson attempts to show proof that, not only is moral responsibility impossible, but it necessarily follows, whether or not determinismturns out to be true or false. It is my contention that Strawson s argument is correct, and it is impossible for us to be responsible for our actions. As a result, it is equally impossible to be morally responsible for those same actions. The consequence is simple; free willis an illusion. We hang tight to... It could be the case that we have played that opponent before and we understand their beliefs, desires, and predisposed psychological structure. This model can also be used to explain why some people act differently in a similar situation. They are a product of their beliefs, desires, and our predisposed psychological structure. In contrast, it would be odd to think our actions were not a result of these beliefs, desires, and predisposed psychological structures. That would relegate the actions people make to being a consequence of randomness and chance. Therefore, You do what you do because of the way you are. 5 Premise (1) seems self ... • 53. Essay Biography of Edgar Allan Poe Biography of Edgar Allan Poe Many authors literary works are often influenced by their own personal life experiences. Among these authors is Edgar Allan Poe, one of the most inventive writers of prose and poetry in the nineteenth century. The juxtaposition of Poe s life and work is most evident in the morbid personalities and melancholy themes of his literary compositions, similar to those of his life. Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 19, 1809. His mother, Elizabeth Arnold Poe, had been widowed at eighteen, and two years after his birth she died of tuberculosis at the age of twenty four. Poe s paternal grandfather had been a wealthy man, but his father, David Poe, had left the family to become an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In many ways she became the mother he had lost so many years ago. (Meyers, 1992, p.17). Tragically, Jane Stanard was dying from a malignant brain tumor. By the spring of 1824 she was confined to her bed and Edgar was not allowed to see her. When she died insane on April 28, Edgar was devastated. Like his mother, she had deserted him, dying a painful death at a young age. Helen became Edgar s ideal woman unattainable, beautiful, and doomed. In Edgar s mind, beauty was now forever linked with death. (Meyers, 1992 p.17). Perhaps as a way of holding in to the memory of Jane, Poe composed To Helen, which eloquently describes his beloved, and the beauty and purity he saw in her. In the first of the poem s three stanzas, Poe compares Helen s beauty to the ships of Nicea, a city near the Sea of Marmara. In the second stanza he refers to her Naiad airs. According to Greek and Roman mythology a naiad is a spirit that occupies springs, fountains rivers, and lakes. Her Naiad airs, we are told, have brought the poet home To the glory that was Greece/ And the grandeur that was Rome. In the poem s last stanza, he refers to Helen as Psyche, a Greek personification of the soul. Poe s ode to his first love, written at the youthful age of just fifteen, is one of his most famous compositions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Compare Fahrenheit 451 And Lamb To The Slaughter She s Had Enough Does the strength of a marriage have any influence on the length one spouse will go to to protect the other? Mildred, in Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, and Mary, in Lamb to the Slaughter, a short story by Roald Dahl, both have marriages that are falling apart. This eventually led both of the wives to betray their husbands. While some differences between Mildred and Mary are evident, the similarities are striking. Mildred embraced the bizarre norms of her dystopian society, and Mary defied the typical role of a 1960 s wife. In both stories, the fragility of their marriages ultimately caused both wives to betray their husbands in fatal ways. In both the novel and the short story, Mary and Mildred s marriages are collapsing. Although both Mary and Mildred may recognize that their marriages are weak, both pretend that everything is fine. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag, Mildred s husband, realizes that he and Mildred don t know much about each other and he says, Funny, how funny, not to remember where or when you met your husband r wife (Bradbury 43). This scene doesn t faze Mildred as she can t comprehend the failure of their marriage. Similarly, in Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary s marriage continues to crumble as Patrick comes home and says, I know it s kind of a bad time to be telling you, but there is simply no other way which implies that he has bad news for her. Patrick then tells Mary that he wants a divorce (Dahl 381). Just like Mildred, Mary purposely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
