Smart beacons use wireless technology to connect to nearby devices without internet and provide location-based information to attract potential customers. They are small devices that can be placed throughout businesses like stores and airports. By tracking customer movement, smart beacons allow businesses to see where customers spend most of their time and target inventory and sales to certain areas. They also send promotional messages and information about new products to customers within their wireless range.

Building Sticky Brand Loyalty with a Connected Product StrategyMark Benson
Presented at IoT Evolution 2016 in Las Vegas by Mark Benson on January 27th, 2016.
ABSTRACT: The stickiness of a connected product brand is a combination of user experience UX relevance and the degree to which the product garners trust. As such, the product design process should carefully consider the UX to ensure that product features and usage modes are relevant, easy to understand, and enjoyable to use. By looking at a case study of an award-winning smart device enabled garage door controller by Genie called the Aladdin Connect as an illustration, we’ll examine how connected products are (A) becoming the new normal for consumers, (B) closing the intimacy gap between OEMs and consumers, and (C) enabling competitive interoperability in a way that is changing the competitive landscape and influencing consumer buying decisions.

The document discusses how design can be approached using Agile principles by being iterative, part of product strategy, and delivering learnings with a flexible process. It provides examples of activities like research, sketches, wireframes and testing hypotheses to explore design options. The process involves discovery sprints, design ownership from start to finish, and opportunities for feedback and flexibility between phases. The goal is a healthy design process that can be challenged to continuously improve.

The document discusses various methods for measuring user experience (UX), including observing how users interact with an application, listening to their feedback, and analyzing usage data. It recommends conducting task-based observations of users thinking out loud and recording their screens. Surveys can gather general feedback, while specialized questions should avoid bias. Eye tracking and usage logs provide objective data on what users look at and do. Heuristic evaluation involves rating an app against usability best practices. Together, these methods support continuous UX improvement.
Risky business: Guide to Risk ManagementMichael Le
This document provides an introduction to risk management. It defines risk as the probability of an undesired event multiplied by its consequences. There are various types of risk, including market risk, credit risk, and operational risk. Risk is measured using techniques like value at risk and profit and loss. Credit ratings are important but not always reliable indicators of risk. Effective risk management requires understanding potential risks from diverse sources, quantifying exposures, and implementing systems to monitor and report on risk.
Rethinking Kållered │ From Big Box to a Reuse Hub: A Transformation Journey ...SirmaDuztepeliler
"Rethinking Kållered │ From Big Box to a Reuse Hub: A Transformation Journey Toward Sustainability"
The booklet of my master’s thesis at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. (Gothenburg, Sweden)
This thesis explores the transformation of the vacated (2023) IKEA store in Kållered, Sweden, into a "Reuse Hub" addressing various user types. The project aims to create a model for circular and sustainable economic practices that promote resource efficiency, waste reduction, and a shift in societal overconsumption patterns.
Reuse, though crucial in the circular economy, is one of the least studied areas. Most materials with reuse potential, especially in the construction sector, are recycled (downcycled), causing a greater loss of resources and energy. My project addresses barriers to reuse, such as difficult access to materials, storage, and logistics issues.
Aims:
• Enhancing Access to Reclaimed Materials: Creating a hub for reclaimed construction materials for both institutional and individual needs.
• Promoting Circular Economy: Showcasing the potential and variety of reusable materials and how they can drive a circular economy.
• Fostering Community Engagement: Developing spaces for social interaction around reuse-focused stores and workshops.
• Raising Awareness: Transforming a former consumerist symbol into a center for circular practices.
Highlights:
• The project emphasizes cross-sector collaboration with producers and wholesalers to repurpose surplus materials before they enter the recycling phase.
• This project can serve as a prototype for reusing many idle commercial buildings in different scales and sizes.
• The findings indicate that transforming large vacant properties can support sustainable practices and present an economically attractive business model with high social returns at the same time.
• It highlights the potential of how sustainable practices in the construction sector can drive societal change.
