Globalization and advances in technology are changing education around the world. This is shifting the roles of students and teachers and moving society towards one based on information. It is shaping students to be "global citizens" with broad skills to apply in an increasingly competitive, global environment. However, some argue that contemporary education focuses too much on facts and career preparation, and not enough on cultivating wisdom and character. There is a need for education to balance global awareness with helping students learn how to live fulfilling lives.

Globalization runs at an
accelerating pace whereas
changes in the pattern of
education move at a snails speed.

and to a certain extent on knowledge
and hardly anything on heart and
wisdom.
