High Rates Of Employee Turnover Essay
High rates of employee turnover can have a negative effect on an organization. This subject has
received attention from human resource professionals, senior management and other industrial
psychologists. Employee attrition is sometimes intractable and one of the most expensive human
resource challenge which most companies face. An organization makes a lot of investments in their
employees in terms of induction, recruitment, their development and training, retaining and
maintaining them within the organization. Manpower is instrumental for the technology industry
and employee turnover is a challenge in Amazon. In an increasing competitive technology
landscape, the technology industry should come into terms the need for restructuring in aspects
matching industry growth and career progression opportunities. There is a necessity to give the
high labor turnover Amazon experiences attention and arrive at benchmark practices that will solve
the administrative and operational challenge the high levels of employee turnover pose. This paper
will evaluate and analyze the impact of employee turnover using the analytical and creative problem
solving in Amazon Virtual Contact Center. The information that this report will provide will enable
Amazon to promote strategies that will reduce the high rates of employee turnover while at the
same time optimize staff retention by enhancing job satisfaction, organizational commitment,
quality service, recruitment, productivity and excellence.

Essay about Julia s Food Booth
Julia s Food Booth
Julia Robertson is a senior at Tech, and she s investigating different ways to finance her final
year at school. She is considering leasing a food booth outside the Tech stadium at home football
games. Tech sells out every home game, and Julia knows, from attending the games herself, that
everyone eats a lot of food. She has to pay $1,000 per game for a booth, and the booths are not
very large. Vendors can sell either food or drinks on Tech property, but not both. Only the Tech
athletic department concession stands can sell both inside the stadium. She thinks slices of cheese
pizza, hot dogs, and barbecue sandwiches are the most popular food items among fans and so these
are the items she would sell.

From this she has discovered that she can expect to sell at least as many slices of pizza as hot
dogs and barbecue sandwiches combined. She also anticipates that she will probably sell at least
twice as many hot dogs as barbecue sandwiches. She believes that she will sell everything she can
stock and develop a customer base for the season if she follows these general guidelines for demand.
If Julia clears at least $1,000 in profit for each game after paying all her expenses, she believes it
will be worth leasing the booth.

Comparing Jesus Christ In Steinbeck s Jim Casy
Jim Casy, a martyr and leader with a large following, reflects the sacrifices of Jesus Christ for the
downtrodden by uniting the less privileged and rebelling against the religious constrictions of their
time. Jim Casy parallels Jesus Christ in many ways throughout the novel. Steinbeck purposefully
gave Jim Casy the same initials as JesusChristin order to signify the link between these two
influential figures. Jim Casy, like Jesus Christ, is consistently willing to sacrificehimself for the
greater good. When a scuffle ensues between Tom Joad and a police officer in Hooverville, Jim
Casey offers take the blame: Somebody got to take the blame. I got no kids. They ll jus put me
in jail, an I ain t doin nothin but set aroun (266 267). Jim does not want Tom to be arrested
because Tom has broken parole, Jim recognizes that there would be less suffering if he takes the
blame, so he does. Jim is watching out for someone he cares for deeply, and is willing to make a
sacrifice for Tom. He would rather be punished than see another person be punished more than
himself. Jim believes that since he s got no kids, it would be better for him to be in jail as
compared to Tom because Tom has a family and is someone s son. Jim values family and wants
to keep the Joad family together and since he does not have his own family and does not have a
present father, Jim believes it would be better for him to be in jail as opposed to Tom. Jim thinks
that his life is less important than some

Fight Or Flight Theory
There are three different theories that are used when talking about how we react to stress through
the physiological aspect or the psychological aspect. The first is part of the physiological aspect
of stress called the Cannon Fight or Flight theory which was proposed in 1914. Fight or Flight
response is a physiological stressresponse that evolved to help organisms to survive immediate
danger. The theory states that when an organism, human being or animal, faces imminent danger
(acute stressor) the body arouses quickly and is ready to act via two different systems. They are the
sympathetic nervous systemand the endocrine system. The sympathetic nervous system stimulates
the adrenal medullawhich is part of the endocrine system and is the region that produces the
hormones such as adrenaline and noradrenaline. These hormones increase heart rate, blood flow,
and glucose levels to prepare the body for an emergency. This response from the body suggests that
the body knows how to protect itself and reach homeostasis. These two systems work together to
either fight against the danger or flight away from the danger. Lord, King and Pfister in 1976
studied the Fight or Flight response in animals through a very unethical study. They administered
chemicals on male hooded Wistar rats which inhibited the neurotransmitters from functioning
normally. This made it very difficult for the rats to escape an electric shock. The results of the study
suggest that the Flight or Fight response

The Optimal Strategy For Player One
a)The optimal strategy for player one to pursue would be to defect under any circumstance. If
player one were to cooperate, that minimum and maximum return would be one and three
respectively. Whereas if player one were to defect the minimum points he or she would earn is
two, and the maximum could potentially be four. b)Like player one, player two would benefit
most if he or she chose the strategy of defection. Similar to the situation in question a, the
maximum and minimum reward of defection outweighs the benefits of cooperation. If player
two, like player one, were to choose cooperation, and element of trust must be present if the goal
was to yield the maximum three points. It is human nature to be cautious and therefore, without
any communication or social bond, there is no reason to trust the other player. Ultimately, a
strategy of defection is the most practical and rewarding approach to pursue. c)If the player one
had no doubt that player two would chose to cooperate, the game becomes more difficult. Now
that the shadow of doubt has been removed from player one s reasoning, the approach behind
player one s strategy is primarily fueled by motives. If player one s motive is to secure the
maximum points that he or she should choose to defect, if however, player one s motives hinge
on a belief in ethics or morality than he or she would most likely cooperate. Seeing as the purpose
of the game is to maximize his or her payout, the most prudent strategy for player

Classical Fencing Research Paper
Fencing is an outlet for personal expression. For many, it is a way of life. However, this this way
of life is dying out. There is much debate about classical fencing vs. Olympic fencing. Olympic
fencing uses much of the same equipment but is very different from classical fencing. Making
many believe that classical fencingis the way of the past.
The earliest depiction of fencing can be found in a relief in the temple of Medin at Habu, near
Luxor in Egypt. The temple was built by King Ramses III in about 1190 BC. This relief shows a
match between two fencers with their sword points covered and the swordsmen are wearing
masks tied to their wigs, large bib, and padding over their ears. This is shown in a carving from
Egypt, along with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Epee, or the Rapier, Was used mainly in Spain and Italy. Wrestling moves were coordinated
with fencing moves to help fencers be formidable against several opponents. It has a long thin
blade with a sharp edge and a vented basket for a hand guard. This became a favored weapon for
dueling with the entire body of the opponent being the target area. The rapiers of this time were
edged, yet this was to keep opponents from grabbing the blade, and would not be used to slash until
much later. Shortly after 1471, dueling was banned by the Catholic Church. Spanish conquests
brought fencing around the world, and that turned fencing into a sport. Sometime in the 18th
century a French school of fencing, improved the sport into what we know now.
Olympic Fencing, is a sport in which two athletes battle with a rapier style sword. In Olympic
fencing there are three categories, Foil, Г©pГ©e and sabre, all of them having different weapons
and target area. Foil requires that the opponent be hit in center of the body, with the tip of the
sword, whereas with Г©pГ©e you can hit anywhere on the body, but still with only the tip. With
sabre you must hit somewhere in the upper body of the opponent, with anywhere on the blade.
Since you can hit with anywhere on the blade, rounds of sabre fencing are very

##ymbolism And Guilt In The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara...
People face difficult and life altering challenges every day. Some of the bad times are more
complex and affect more people than other types can. A challenge can start out as a family trying
to help the less fortunate, but then take a turn for the worse. Even if it wasn t a specific person s
fault, he or she still feels guilty. In The Poisonwood Bibleby Barbara Kingsolver, the author uses
symbolism and allusions to prove the theme everyone has and deals with guiltdifferently. For
starters, Barbara Kingsolver uses a lot of symbolism, especially rain. According to Thomas C.
Foster s How to Read Literature Like a Professor, it is stated that rain can be restorative and
cleansing (Foster 83). In more simpler terms, rain symbolizes rebirth and happiness. However in
this story, the rain symbolizes hard times and guilt. Nelson told Adah it was our offenses that
brought on this rainy season (Kingsolver 172). If rain in The Poisonwood Bible meant rebirth and
cleansing, the theme of guilt would not be as pronounced.
The Price Family is very religious and has a strong belief in God. Therefore, it only makes sense to
have allusions throughout the story. Allusions bring the theme across because it helps the readers
to see what happens when someone is guilty. For instance, if the girls do something they are not
supposed to do the father, Nathan, would tell the girls you have The Verse (Kingsolver 59). The
Verse is a punishment to make them feel guilty for something wrong they

Essay On Angus Calves
This experiment will be conducted using fifty Angus calves born within 2 weeks of the same date.
To insure the calves are born within this time frame the calves will be collected from cows that
have been inseminated from the same bull at the same time and tested positive for pregnancy. These
calves will be castrated with the Short scrotum method with the use of a rubber ring. This method
involves restraining the calf, preferably in a squeeze chute, and taking a tool to expand the tight
rubber band and placing both testicles through the band. While doing this the band must be firmly
against the naval at the base of the scrotum before releasing the rubber band. Twenty five of the
calves will be castrated at a week old. The other twenty five will be castrated at the age of... Show

The calves after weening will be started on the same nutrition plan. The calves will start out on a
diet of fifty percent orchard grass hay and fifty percent alfalfa hay at three percent of the calves
body weight per day. The alfalfa will provide the amount of protein needed that the calves
needed in early growth. The orchard grass will help prevent bloat from an all alfalfa diet and
provide essential nutrition as well. This will last for the next three days. After the first three
days grain (12% sweet feed) will be introduce at two pounds a day along with the same amount
of hay for another three days. After this period every three days another pound of grain will be
added until the calf is eating 6 to 8 pounds of grain per day. This should amount to a 50/50
mixture of grain and hay. The calves will be weighed weekly to adjust the amount of hay given
to maintain the 3% body weight of hay. Once the calves have adjusted to a grain diet the ration
will be changed at a 10% increase in grain every 7 days until an 80/20 ratio of grain to hay. Along
with this diet the calves will be given sufficient amounts of fresh

How Is John D Rockefeller A Captain Of Industry
To describe John D. Rockefeller in one word would be an extremely difficult, if not impossible,
thing to do. Rockefeller was known by so many things in his time and still today; a captain of
industry who revolutionised the American economy with new business practices and keen
management of what he controlled, a robber baron who lied and cheated his way to the top with
back room dealings and taking advantage of the most disadvantaged of people. In his early life,
Rockefeller grew up in Richmond, New York with his two brothers and two sisters about 20
years before the start of the Civil War as the child of Eliza Davison and William Avery
Rockefeller. His father was con artist who spent most of John s life traveling selling his various
elixirs and his mother was a devout Baptist who John said shaped his life and most of his
religious views for the rest of his life. Towards the end of his life, Rockefeller had built up a
beyond substantial fortune but, seeing as how he was now retired from the oil industry and had no
desire to invest into a new business, he decided to follow Andrew Carnegies Gospel of Wealth by
donating the bulk of his wealth to charity. John D. Rockefellerwas truly a man who was almost
undefinable despite the simple black and white labels that most people and historians have pinned
upon him, as we examine his life it can be determined that Rockefeller was neither an evil man
nor a good one but someone who lived his life in the grey. To begin the look at

FINANCIAL MARKETS AND INSTITUTIONS
A Strong Financial System Is Necessary for a Growing and Prosperous Economy
Financial managers and investors don t operate in a vacuum they make decisions within a large and
complex financial environment. This environment includes financial markets and institutions, tax
and regulatory policies, and the state of the economy. The environment both determines the
available financial alternatives and affects the outcomes of various decisions. Thus, it is crucial that
investors and financial managers have a good understanding of the environment in which they
operate. History shows that a strong financial system is a necessary ... Show more content on

To make good decisions, financial managers must understand the environment and markets within
which businesses operate. Therefore, in this chapter we describe the markets where capital is
raised, securities are traded, and stock prices are established, as well as the institutions that operate
in these markets. Because the overall objective of financial managers is to maximize shareholder
value, we also take a closer look at how the stock market operates, and we discuss the concept of
market efficiency.

For example, some insurance companies allowed brokers to keep premiums for as much as a year
before remitting them to the insurance companies. The brokers invested these premiums and
earned interest on them, and this gave them an incentive to steer business to these companies rather
than to insurance companies whose policies might be better for the brokers clients.

The Importance Of Genetic Transformation
Genetic transformation is when an organism is given genes that it is able to express from the
foreign DNA (Weedman 111). Genetic transformation is used widely today, especially in
agriculture where organisms are genetically altered to meet the food demands from corns color to
squash size. When transferring genes you need a competent cell which is the cell that is going to
express the foreign DNA(Weedman 111). There are three ways to transfer DNA, transformation
where the competent cell takes DNA from the surrounding environment, conjugation where two
bacteriajoin and transfer DNA, and then there is transduction where virus or vector carries DNA
from a foreign organism to another (hammiverse.com...na). In our experiment we used transduction,
using a vector. There are three ways to make the competent cell permeable. There is projectile
bombardment when a genegun is used to coat the competent cell with DNA, there is
electroporation when electric pulses are used to increase permeability and then there is heat shock
when you rapidly change the temperature of the environment the competent cell is in from low to
high temperatures making the permeability of the cell membrane more profound (Weedman 111).
We used the heat shock method in our experiment to increase the permeability of E.coli. In the
case of our experiment the competent cell is E.coli. E.coli is known for its ability of horizontal
gene transfer which is the transfer of genes from a foreign organism and is not

Limiting The Use Of Pesticides In Silent Spring By Rachel...
In the book, Silent Spring by Rachel Carson warns people about the use of insecticide. When
people use pesticide to kill insects it leads to problems because it would transfer from people to
animals. Carson shows us when the earth is contaminated with pollution, it is going to take
generation after generation to fix. When the chemicals were discovered to make pesticides it was
founded by an accident. People started to use pesticides to kill insects, but the pesticidestarted to
make people and animals to get sick or die. The pesticide would enter the body animals or people
and it would transfer to the offspring of the animals or human beings. According to Carson
pesticide would go to the water supply where people drink from and get sick or die. Carson
suggests that we should not stop using pesticide, but to limit our usage of pesticide. I agree with
Carson that we should limit the use of pesticides. People around the world she cut back on the
usage of pesticides because it hurts the health of human beings, animals, and water supply.... Show

Rachel Carson says, In Florida, two children found an empty bag and used it to repair a swing.
Shortly thereafter both of them died and three of their playmates became ill. The bag had once
contained an insecticide called parathion, one of the organic phosphates; tests established death
by parathion poisoning (28). In this quote, Rachel Carson shows us that two little kids die from
playing with an empty bag lying on a swing set. The pesticides were in the empty bag which
killed the two kids. Carson shows us that by just a bag can have the pesticide that can kill a person.
The usage of pesticide should be limited because is can harm the health of human

PRINCIPLES DERIVABLE FROM THE CASE
The law of the place were the property is situated (Lex situs) determines the characterization of
property when problems arise, if things that are physically movable are moved from a jurisdiction
which regards them as legally immovable to a jurisdiction which regards him as legally movable.
The new lex situs determines their character as held in the case of Re Hoyles.
Shares and securities are deemed to be situated in the place where between the shareholder and the
company, they can be effectively dealt with according to the law under which the company was
incorporated as held in R v WILLIAMS and BRASSARD v SMITH.
For equitable conversion to apply based on the principle of equity, which regards as done that
which ought to be done, there must be an obligation or a direction for sale as regards sale of land.
No country takes notice of the revenue laws of another. HOLMAN v JOHNSON per Lord

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA v TAYLOR by the House of Lords. This principle is applicable on
the basis that the settled Land Act 1882, section 22(5) applicable in Ireland by virtue of the Irish
free state constitution is only applicable in Ireland and cannot be extended to apply to matters
relating to English revenue that is English shares securities, which are to be governed by English

Oscar Wilde s The Picture Of Dorian Gray
Corruption can do many things. It can lead to unstable lifestyles, pollute minds and bring on the
downfall of just about anything or anyone. One of the best examples would be from the story,
Dorian gray by Oscar Wilde. This story showed a young Dorian living his innocent life, only to be
surrounded and influenced by the corrupt society around him and would ultimately lead to his
demise. It is not easy to define corruptionas a whole. But to narrow it down, corruption is mainly
associated with bribery and it takes many forms. Corruption has been a part of human society
since the earliest times. Fraud, embezzlement, theft, bribes are all great examples. Corruption has
progressively increased and is now just about everywhere in our society, the evil nature of it will
only lead to failure and collapse. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, The author Oscar Wilde
demonstrates the corruption of youth by taking the initial innocence of Dorian and turning his
values completely immoral under the control of Lord Henry, Dorians friend mainly through the
use of symbolism. Even though he looks as youthful and innocent his portrait reveals his truly
aging and corrupt soul, this and failure in Dorian not taking responsibility for any of his own
actions is what ultimately drives him insane and leads to his death. Dorian s transition from an
innocent character to a degraded and corrupted being can be shown by the author s use of showing
his true color. It demonstrates the pureness of Dorian s

As a child, I owe credit to Lisa Simpson for setting me on the path to social justice, activism,

On the other hand, some people do not believed in god typed things. To explain this objection, and
how the two forms of cosmological argument evade it, I ll use a simple, generic statement of the
cosmological argument: (1) Everything that exists has a cause of its existence. (2) The universe
exists.
Therefore:(3) The universe has a cause of its existence.
(4) If the universe has a cause of its existence, then that cause is God.
Therefore:(5) God exists. This argument is subject to a simple objection, introduced by asking,
Does God have a cause of his existence? If, on the one hand, God is thought to have a cause of
his existence, then positing the existence of God in order to explain the existence of the universe
doesn t get us anywhere. Without God there is one entity the existence of which we cannot
explain, namely the universe; with God there is one entity the existence of which we cannot
explain, namely God. Positing the existence of God, then, raises as many problems as it solves,
and so the cosmological argument leaves us in no better position than it found us, with one entity
the existence of which we cannot explain. If, on the other hand, God is thought not to have a cause
of his existence, i.e. if God is thought to be an uncaused being, then this too raises difficulties for
the simple cosmological argument. For if God were an uncaused being then his existence would

Abstract
Traditionally families were defined by their faithfulness and conventional sex roles. The roles of
men and women were structured according to the traditional family roles. It was believed that the
father s role was to work in the office the whole day as the mother stays at home to attend to house
hold chores. For many years traditional marriage was the cornerstone of almost all societies, an
important institution for the passing on of values and taking care of children. That was then, the
present is experiencing changing roles, and fathers opt for staying at home as mothers pursue their
careers.

What involves staying at Home?
The decision for one to become a stay at home dad may encompass a lot than what meets the eye.
A father considering remaining at home may look at many factors including his earning power
as compared to that of the spouse. Work attire, commuting costs, daycare costs and other
working expenses. A slight repetitive flaw is rooted along with the idea of house husbands
(McKay 4). Regardless of whether the decision of men to become primary care givers is by
choice or by force, the fact is that these men take on the care giver role and perform it with a
sense of commitment to the well being and health of their families. However, the sad thing is
that as they go about their duties, they are met with quizzical looks and criticized for taking on
the role of fathers who are responsible and take good care of their children and keep their families
home running smoothly. This does not mean that all stay at home parents including mothers are
ideal parents, it only suggests that men also can be effective as women in taking care of their
families despite the way the society views what is normal and acceptable gender role performance.
According to Frank, in his book, The Involved Father, he argues that fathers are just doing what
mothers have been doing all along and that is domestic house work. The only difference is that in
the present day,

The Drought Of The Western United States
WP 4
The drought in the western United States is a nationwide concern that directly affects every person
in California. It is every person s responsibility to use water sustainably and no college, including
the University of Southern California, is an exception. Rather than lagging behind sustainable water
usage, USC should be at the forefront of it. On the surface of USC s environmental sustainability
campaign, it seems as if they are making sweeping changes; however directly under the first
layer of facts there are holes in their plan. If USC made small changes to both their resident hall
and landscaping water use, they could not only save money but also better USC s
environmentally friendly status. Regardless of whether or not California is in a drought, USC
should still strive to be a model for water sustainability because it would not only better the
school s reputation of being a green university, but it would also save money. From a wider
scope of things, water usage is important for more reasons than solely the drought in California.
As the world s population nears 7.4 billion people, more people are born each day compared to
how many pass away. Looking at the world s total volume of water, only 2.5% of it is drinkable
fresh water. Furthermore, 70% of that freshwater is frozen. With an every increase population like
the one we have today, it is likely that water will become the most important resource to mankind.
The problem lies in the way the fresh water is

Palmata Case Study
A study by Ritchie, 2006 illustrated how a temperature increase initiates a temporal shift within
A.palmata mucus isolates, from beneficial bacteria to dominance by members of the genus Vibrio,
suggesting that protective mechanisms employed by this species are lost under warmer
conditions. Increased temperatures lowering coral resistance, thus, increasing disease
susceptibility is well documented (Bruno, 2007; Muller et al, 2008), as is the rise in ocean heat
content (Figure 3). Figure 3: Time series showing seasonal and annual average of global upper

Both species affected emphasise asexual fragmentation at the expense of dispersive sexual
reproduction therefore, recovery is further strained due to the reproductive strategies (Aronson
Precht, 2001). In addition to this, two pesticides commonly incorporated into African dust have
been found to interfere with the settlement of coral larvae (Virginia et al, 2003). Management
Strategies Responsive management plans are limited due to a lack of effectual diagnosis
methods. Protective statuses such as being listed on the IUCN can act as a buffer following
outbreaks, and it has been shown the decreased damage from human impacts via the designation
of Marine Protected Areas (MPA s) lowers disease prevalence in corals (Lamb et al, 2015; Groner
et al, 2015), yet despite this, implementing effective preventative and conservation methods remains
a cause for concern. Trial studies have shown antibiotic treatments to be successful in supressing
transmission of WBD, specifically with the use of Ampicillin and Tetracycline, although the latter
being less efficient (Kline, 2011) and Paromomycin has been shown to arrest the disease
completely (Sweet et al, 2014). Genetic research has shown that gene flow is regionally restricted
in both Acropora species; Hemond and Vollmer, 2010, identified mitochondrial DNA sequence data

SARS, also known as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, caused a major epidemic in 2002
2003. The virus had originated in the middle east area from a mammal group handled and bred
in the first effect area. The virus had developed and was transmitted to the people handling the
animals. The handlers would contract the virus and then would spread it to others around them.
The disease was able to be transferred or passed on to others by means of close contact and or the

of the affected areas, about twenty percent of the people who contracted the virus were healthcare
workers, such as doctors, nurses, family doctors and specialist. The spreading of the virus seemed
to follow its own pattern. The first stage would start with infected people coming to the hospital

Iran Contra Crack Cocaine
Did you know in December 1985 news broke of cocaine (crack) being trafficked by the Contras
into inner city neighborhoods especially predominantly black neighborhoods? That fueled the
crack epidemic in the 80 s and 90 s. This scandal shaped then President Ronald Reagan (1981

The Use of Hand Hygiene Interventions and Techniques to Prevent Nosocomial Infections
Studies have continued to prove hand hygiene to be the most effective technique for eliminating
nosocomial infections. Treatment facilities are experiencing multidrug resistant organisms at an all
time high due to a lack of proper infection prevention protocol. Nosocomial infections are the most
common complication that can arise during a hospital stay (Insert citation). A majority of
developing countries are facing multidrug resistant organisms caused by the lack of infection
prevention protocol and a large amount of pressure to provide health care in poor living and
treatment conditions. Over use of antibiotic treatment is part of the reason large numbers of
multidrug resistant organisms are appearing in the healthcare environment. Implementing more
stringent infection prevention protocol, assessing health care facilities use of proper infection
control, and critically analyzing use of antibiotics will aid in elimination of nosocomial infections
and decrease the average hospital stay.
According to the evidence based clinical practice guidelines on the guidline.gov website, there are
three standard principles of hand hygiene. The first is using a hand washing technique with
decontamination agents, such as soaps or

Sleepless in Seattle a Film Directed by Nora Ephrons
There are times in life when love is taken for granted. People fall in love for many different
reasons, some for money, some for convenience and others simply because their family approves
of the marriage. Then there are those who fall in love because they truly are in love and have
found the love of their life. Does that only happen once in a lifetime? Most believe so, but for
some lovecan happen more than once. They say that, People who have truly loved once are more

Annie s transition begins while she is driving in the car and a talk show comes on. She finds
herself totally consumed by a young boy who has lost his mother and his father who is so
desperately grieving. She listens to Jonah and Sam on the radio and is taken up in the moment.
The writer uses many words repeatedly in this film all of which are an indication to what is
happening to the character. As she is listening to Sam speak about meeting his wife for the first
time, he says, I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. It was like ...magic.
(IMDb) This word strikes a chord in her because she has heard this word before, when her
mother was speaking about meeting her father for the first time. She is beginning to see a
pattern. She mutters the word, Magic the same time Sam does. The seed is planted and now
will begin to grow. Sam sits on the bench with the phone next to his ear and speaks to Dr.
Fieldstone. Jonah has begun this conversation with his phone call into the radio station, however
now he sleeps on his father s lap. Sam continues to spill his heart out for all of America to hear.
Dr. Fieldstone asks Sam what was so special about his wife. He continues, Well, it was a million
tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together...
and I knew it. I knew it the very first time I touched her.

The Toronto Road Safety Commission understands the growing safety epidemic on the streets of
Toronto. The safety of all citizens is our top priority. The problem is not being fully addressed
and the citizens of the city are at risk. Road traffic injuries put a threat on public health and
deserve attention now. On average there is more than one pedestrian death a week. In the first
15 days of 2018 there have been seven deaths related to the road. This puts the city at a 250%

David Cameron s First Speech as Prime Minister
This political speech made by United Kingdom s new prime minister David Cameron in May
2010 could be considered the beginning of a new era in the politics of the country because, for

(born in London in 1966) was elected leader of the Conservative Party in December 2005. He has

defence, gay rights and abortion. He has a fresh, young and moderate image. The conservative

that the poor will be the most affected by the measures. During the campaign Labour, Liberal and
Conservatives agreed on the need to cut spending, but the proposal of Cameron was the hardest.
At the same time, the Tories thought the reforms had to start immediately, while the Labour
preferred to wait a year until the economic recovery was consolidated. Indeed, some fear that the
spending review will not help UK to get out of the crisis, and they claim that the present
difficulties are only an excuse to reduce the power of the state (an important principle in the
Conservatives ideology). On the other side, Conservatives think that the private sector will be able
to support the economy and will be reinforced, in spite of the cutback in spending. It is beyond
doubt that the financial crisis has affected deeply all Europe, and that something had to be done to
reduce the number of British citizens living on the governments subsidies. But it is not that clear

The Importance Of A Well Prepared Environment
Maria Montessori inadvertently created an alternative to traditional schooling. She did this by
allowing her pupils the opportunity to learn through action rather than repetition. Montessori had
five main principles: respect for the child, sensitive periods, the prepared environment, auto
education, and the teacher s role. In this paper I will discuss the prepared environment thoroughly
and how a well prepared environment can positively affect each student in the 3 6 classroom. I
will, in reflection, discuss the negative outcomes that may arise from an ill prepared classroom.
Sensitive periods are blocks of time in a child s life when the child is absorbed with one
characteristic of the environment to the exclusion of all others (Lillard, 1972, p.33). These
sensitive periods are: a need for order, the use of the hand and tongue, the development of walking,
a fascination with minute and detailed objects, and a time of intense social interest (Lillard, 1972,
p.33).
The first, and most prevalent in a classroom, of the sensitive periods is the need for order which
begins within the first year of life. Rules and routine are important in a newborn s day;
consistency is key to a happy baby (Knestrict, 2015). Rules and routine in a newborns day gives
them the knowledge that their caretakers are able to be relied on. They know they ll get fed and
changed when need be, they ll be put to bed when they re tired and even get to see new faces

Rights Fees in Sport Essay
The steadfast rule when it comes to sports and rights fees is that it s the business of
entertainment. The dollars are going to go where the value is. With Rights fees, networks pay
fees to have the rights to a particular broadcast, for example march madness, the NFL or the
Olympics. Rights fees are determined by the value a certain property holds, this is determined by
the ratings. The most important ratings market world wide is undisputedly the North American,
and in particular the US market as we will later discuss with the Olympic media coverage. With in
the US it is a battle field to increase ratings because of the dollar value associated with the

But as aformentioned the rating speak volumes and while the NBA is very popular in the US,
from a network point of view March Madness, NCAA basketball is a winner. CBS is paying $6.2
billion dollars over a 12 year period to ensure their TV rights. As this is one of basketball s major
properties and wanted by advertisers who are trying to target a very specific demographic.
However, there is a problem with increasing rights fees being paid by networks, funds are not
bottomless. At a certain point the sports industry will plateau and as we are seeing financial
resources are being pulled from sports with lower rating to finance the network s bid for the
highly rated events like the Superbowl. This is also known as a zero sum industry, where one
event/league will benefit while another suffers. The NFL is currently taking in about $550
million/year from 4 different networks respectively. The price tag is not that high because of the
extensive amount of game air time, but because of the perceived value. Networks are teaming up
with their own programming to compliment the short NFL season to bring in more ad spots and
rightly so. The NFL as a league also knows the value of their product and realizes that networks
are still willing to pay these incredible rights fees. After all the networks are already paying twice
as much as their last contracts. However, who suffers in the zero sum game? The worst case or

whisperings and the champagne and the stars... on weekends his Rolls Royce became an
omnibus, hearing parties to and from the city between nine in the morning and ling past midnight..
scrubbing brushes and hammers and garden shears, repairing the ravages of the night before.
(3.1). The high glamour of Gatsby parties was loved by all around the community, Gatsby was
seen as the mysterious high class man who was elegant with expensive personal items which
exemplified his class, and throwed the best parties, his status was amazing and he strived to keep
that up because it was important to him. Commenting on the idea of status, a report was written
about Social Class and Status in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby stated, Gatsby s success is
dependent on the fact that he did not follow the rules of society. In A Corruption of Character
(2008), by Halmstad University. this provides a visualization that Gatsby was different from those
in a society, which made him stand out more when he hosted insane parties, making his status in the

Leave The Past Behind
As the matter of fact, the racial diversity in the world is increasing day by day. However, people
just need to find out how to live comfortably with other of different history s background. It is true
that the process to overcome the past between nations and the discrimination between races takes an
amount of time. Nevertheless, people nowadays are opening a new chapter of life. In reality,
people all over the world now do not think about the painful past, the war or whatsoever anymore;
instead, they start to shake hand, make business or lifting embargoes which last decades. In the
essay, Vietnamese Youths No Longer Look Homeward which was written by Nancy Wride focuses

For example, the trading door between two countries had opened widely. In a short word, in the
essay Wride defined the 1.5 generation and explained the reasons for why young Vietnamese
immigration are not looking at the past anymore. According to the essay, author defined young
Vietnamese who now are living in the United States as 1.5 generation. The term is talking about
young Vietnamese people who were originally born in Vietnambut they grown up in America.
And because these people grew up in America, this group of people tends to have a little bit
difference in the way of thinking or to no longer look at the past to decide what to do for the
future. In the essay Wride wrote: Generally, they have not inherited their parents hatred of
Communism or qualms about trading with a former enemy. 1.5 generation is carefree about what
happened to their parents, to their ancestry, relatives and their people. Through several of 1.5
generation group s interviews, they are certain don t really want to talk about the painful past
which causes many lost for their parents, dead of their people anymore. According to Tran, twenty
two years old, he said his hatred toward Vietnam couldn t get to any place closer and be comparable
to that of his parents toward the Vietnam government. As Tran said, I might not be able to
remember the persecution they had to go through, and the corruption, the hardship the South had to

The Christian Influence on The Middle Ages Essay
In 312 CE, Roman Emperor Constantine achieved a victory at the Milvian Bridge. The night
previous to this battle, Constantine dreamt of a cross inscribed in hoc signo vinces, in this sign you
will conquer. As trivial as this dream may seem, it ultimately signified the beginning of the rise of
Christianity. With his victory, Emperor Constantine converted to Christianityand supported and
encouraged it throughout the empire. In 313 CE, another milestone occurred as the emperors, both
Constantine Iof the West and Licinius of the East, signed the Edict of Milan declaring that the
Diocletianic Persecution would end, and Christianity would be tolerated in the Roman Empire. This
religion began to flourish as people quickly converted from pagan... Show more content on

One of the most important contributors of this time was Saint Benedict of Nursia. To guide
Christians pursuing such a life, St. Benedict wrote Regula Benedicti, The Rule of Saint Benedict.
This book was composed of precepts for monks to follow as they lived in communal monasteries
under an abbot. Ideally, poverty, chastity, and obedience were the most sought after traits that one
should follow. Saint Benedict instructed monks to participate daily in written prayers, devotionals,
manual labor, and commanded a pledge of poverty, chastity, and obedience (Benedict).
Because these rules are not just spiritually beneficial, secular impacts were gained from the
monasteries way of life. Monks became a hero of the people of the medieval times in countless
ways. These monks were examples to all of a righteous way of living. When monks devoted their
lives to God, others saw the devotion exemplified in daily life. The humility the monks strived for
implicated a humble heart , serious and humble speech , doing nothing except what is commended
by his superiors , and being content with the worst of everything (Benedict). This lifestyle could
infinitely increase the quality of life for any person as it provided an example for people to
become helpful, moral citizens, regardless of religious affiliation. As Christianity and monasteries
became more popular amongst people, monks traveled to

Causes And Consequences Of Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes are significant groups of arthropods that inhabit aquatic habitats. They are probably
adverse arthropods, which transmits wide range of pathogens that cause drastic deadly diseases
such as human malaria, dengue, filariasis, viral encephalitis (Leopoldo 2008). Zika virus, another
mosquitoe borne infection was first reported in Brazil by Pan American Health Organization in
2015. After the identification, the Zika virus has spread tremendously all around America. The
illness begins with mild symptoms lasting up to a week after being bitten by vector mosquito.
However, an infection during pregnancy may cause certain neurological anomalies like
microcephaly and several other brain defects (Plourde Bloch 2016).Thus control of mosquitoes
becomes the need of the hour to prevent wide epidemic infections. However, it is difficult to
control and prevent severe consequences created by mosquito species (Aneesh 2009).
Currently a total of 3549 recognized mosquito species belonging to subfamily Culicinae are
reported all over the world (Harbach 2016). Out of this more than hundred species of mosquitoes

Restorative Justice Case Study
Introduction
Over the course of both my undergraduate and master s programs in Negotiation, Conflict
Resolution, and Peacebuilding (NCRP), I have wanted to further study the concept of Restorative
Justice. Though it has surfaced several times throughout my NCRP coursework, it has mostly been
in the context of international conflict. Thus, I have often wondered how Restorative Justice might
work in a more local context. That local context revealed itself in my current role as one of two
fathers of a first grader in a school in Long Beach. Helena, our six year old daughter, attends a
small private school with 160 students in grades K 8. The school community regards itself as
being a large, caring, tight knit extended family, while the administration has been explicit in
stating that the incidence of bullying on the campus is little to none. Our experience as a family in
the nearly two years that we have been part of the community has been otherwise. Here are three
bullying scenarios that we ve experienced or heard of occurring in our school community:
In our first year, two male classmates called our daughter fat when she was in Kindergarten.
Later that same year, a female classmate teased another dark skinned, African American girl in her
class for having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

worked well together towards a very positive outcome. Prompted by a proactive teacher, the parents
communicated with each other regarding the situation that same night, while each of the boys
wrote our daughter an apology letter. The teacher mediated the conflict between the children
immediately after the incident, when the boys asked for forgiveness and everyone gave each other
a hug. Our relationship with the other two families ended up stronger as a result of the

Providing Your Puppy Or Dog With An Indoor Kennel Crate
Providing your puppy or dog with an indoor kennel crate can satisfy many dogs need for a den
like enclosure. Besides being an effective housebreaking tool (because it takes advantage of the
dog s natural reluctance to soil its sleeping place), it can also help to reduce separation anxiety, to
prevent destructive behavior (such as chewing furniture), to keep a puppyaway from potentially
dangerous household items (i.e., poisons, electrical wires, etc.), and to serve as a mobile indoor dog
house which can be moved from room to room whenever necessary.
A kennel crate also serves as a travel cabin for your dog when traveling by car or plane.
Additionally, most hotels which accept dogs on their premises require them to be crated while
in the room to prevent damage to hotel furniture and rugs. Furnishing Your Puppy s Crate: Toys
and Treats: Place your puppy s favorite toys and dog treats at the far end opposite the door
opening. These toys may include the Tuffy , Billy , Kong , Nylabone or a ball. Toys and balls
should always be inedible and large enough to prevent their being swallowed. Any fragmented
toys should be removed to prevent choking and internal obstruction. You may also place a
sterilized marrow bone filled with cheese or dog treats in the crate. Bedding: Place a towel or
blanket inside the crate to create a soft, comfortable bed for the puppy. If the puppy chews the
towel, remove it to prevent the pup from swallowing or choking on the pieces. Although most

Reaction Paper On Spinoza
The question of emotions and how they relate to rational thought is certainly not new. There are
several authors who have already occupied themselves with the interplay of emotions and
rationality in the decision making process (Lowenstein Lerner, 2003; Damasio, 1988 1994 just to
name a few). In order to address this question, I decided to turn to one of the greatest thinkers of
Western thought: Spinoza. Re reading the 4th part of his magnum opos Ethics, which carries the
title Of HumanBondage or the strength of emotions , I could not but think of some central aspects
of Kahneman Tversky s work on heuristics, bias, framing effects and prospect theory. Given the
chronological gap between the works of Kahneman Tversky and Spinoza s Ethics I was impressed
by the actuality inherent to Spinoza s thought. In this paper, I m going to argue that Spinoza s 4th
part of Ethics anticipates some of the key findings of Kahneman Tversky and offers an interesting
perspective on how to develop... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Ethics, which overall consists of five main parts and is inspired by the strict science of
geometrics, he develops a system of thought which addresses the relationship of god and nature,
body and mind and the conditions and possibilities of a good human life. Thereby, he opposes
Descartes mind body dualism and develops his own line of thought contrasting Descartes dualism
with his own concept of parallelism of body and mind. While rational thought as the attribute of
human mind has been considered for a long time as being superior to emotions, Spinoza argued
that both the mind and the body were parallel attributes (call them manifestations) of the very
same substance (Damasio, 1988: 12). As much as his take on the role of emotions is determined
by his other main concepts of parallelism and conatus, the 4th part of his Ethics is considered to be
key to be able to understand the other parts of Ethics (Liessmann, 2003:

The Negative Effects Of Pornography
With the surge of wider spread accessibility to the internet on mobile phones and laptops comes a
surge in the accessibility and viewing of pornography. Much research has been done to study how
such an increase in pornography consumption is impacting the marriage relationship. Some findings
have indicated that users incur serious negative effects, including a 25% higher divorce rate, are
101% more likely to be unfaithful to a spouse, and were 12% less likely to describe their marriageas
very happy (Doran Price, 2014). Interestingly, various studies have also noted that the effects may
be different for men than they are for women, stating that for women who viewed pornographyin
ranges between 2 3 times a month and once a day or more, their marital quality was actually
higher than those who never viewed pornography... (Perry, 2017). Considering such
contradictory findings, it can be difficult for couples to know how pornography use plays into a
healthy marriage, if it does at all. Pornography use, at the very least, has been shown to create
conflict and stress between spouses if the non using partner is more religious or has negative
views surrounding pornography. Is has also been linked with lower self esteem in women. The
affects of this activity must be viewed not only through an individual lens, but through a couple s
view. Taking such a view may reveal that regardless of the empirical outcomes of porn use,
perceptions, even, can have a serious negative impact

  • 3. Essay about Julia s Food Booth Julia s Food Booth Julia Robertson is a senior at Tech, and she s investigating different ways to finance her final year at school. She is considering leasing a food booth outside the Tech stadium at home football games. Tech sells out every home game, and Julia knows, from attending the games herself, that everyone eats a lot of food. She has to pay $1,000 per game for a booth, and the booths are not very large. Vendors can sell either food or drinks on Tech property, but not both. Only the Tech athletic department concession stands can sell both inside the stadium. • 4. Comparing Jesus Christ In Steinbeck s Jim Casy Jim Casy, a martyr and leader with a large following, reflects the sacrifices of Jesus Christ for the downtrodden by uniting the less privileged and rebelling against the religious constrictions of their time. Jim Casy parallels Jesus Christ in many ways throughout the novel. Steinbeck purposefully gave Jim Casy the same initials as JesusChristin order to signify the link between these two influential figures. Jim Casy, like Jesus Christ, is consistently willing to sacrificehimself for the greater good. When a scuffle ensues between Tom Joad and a police officer in Hooverville, Jim Casey offers take the blame: Somebody got to take the blame. I got no kids. They ll jus put me in jail, an I ain t doin nothin but set aroun (266 267). Jim does not want Tom to be arrested because Tom has broken parole, Jim recognizes that there would be less suffering if he takes the blame, so he does. Jim is watching out for someone he cares for deeply, and is willing to make a sacrifice for Tom. He would rather be punished than see another person be punished more than himself. Jim believes that since he s got no kids, it would be better for him to be in jail as compared to Tom because Tom has a family and is someone s son. • 5. Fight Or Flight Theory There are three different theories that are used when talking about how we react to stress through the physiological aspect or the psychological aspect. The first is part of the physiological aspect of stress called the Cannon Fight or Flight theory which was proposed in 1914. Fight or Flight response is a physiological stressresponse that evolved to help organisms to survive immediate danger. The theory states that when an organism, human being or animal, faces imminent danger (acute stressor) the body arouses quickly and is ready to act via two different systems. They are the sympathetic nervous systemand the endocrine system. The sympathetic nervous system stimulates the adrenal medullawhich is part of the endocrine system and is the region that produces the hormones such as adrenaline and noradrenaline. These hormones increase heart rate, blood flow, and glucose levels to prepare the body for an emergency. This response from the body suggests that the body knows how to protect itself and reach homeostasis. These two systems work together to either fight against the danger or flight away from the danger. Lord, King and Pfister in 1976 studied the Fight or Flight response in animals through a very unethical study. They administered chemicals on male hooded Wistar rats which inhibited the neurotransmitters from functioning normally. This made it very difficult for the rats to escape an electric shock. The results of the study suggest that the Flight or Fight response ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Optimal Strategy For Player One a)The optimal strategy for player one to pursue would be to defect under any circumstance. If player one were to cooperate, that minimum and maximum return would be one and three respectively. Whereas if player one were to defect the minimum points he or she would earn is two, and the maximum could potentially be four. b)Like player one, player two would benefit most if he or she chose the strategy of defection. Similar to the situation in question a, the maximum and minimum reward of defection outweighs the benefits of cooperation. If player two, like player one, were to choose cooperation, and element of trust must be present if the goal was to yield the maximum three points. It is human nature to be cautious and therefore, without any communication or social bond, there is no reason to trust the other player. Ultimately, a strategy of defection is the most practical and rewarding approach to pursue. c)If the player one had no doubt that player two would chose to cooperate, the game becomes more difficult. Now that the shadow of doubt has been removed from player one s reasoning, the approach behind player one s strategy is primarily fueled by motives. If player one s motive is to secure the maximum points that he or she should choose to defect, if however, player one s motives hinge on a belief in ethics or morality than he or she would most likely cooperate. Seeing as the purpose of the game is to maximize his or her payout, the most prudent strategy for player ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Classical Fencing Research Paper Fencing is an outlet for personal expression. For many, it is a way of life. However, this this way of life is dying out. There is much debate about classical fencing vs. Olympic fencing. Olympic fencing uses much of the same equipment but is very different from classical fencing. Making many believe that classical fencingis the way of the past. The earliest depiction of fencing can be found in a relief in the temple of Medin at Habu, near Luxor in Egypt. The temple was built by King Ramses III in about 1190 BC. This relief shows a match between two fencers with their sword points covered and the swordsmen are wearing masks tied to their wigs, large bib, and padding over their ears. Wrestling moves were coordinated with fencing moves to help fencers be formidable against several opponents. It has a long thin blade with a sharp edge and a vented basket for a hand guard. This became a favored weapon for dueling with the entire body of the opponent being the target area. The rapiers of this time were edged, yet this was to keep opponents from grabbing the blade, and would not be used to slash until much later. Shortly after 1471, dueling was banned by the Catholic Church. Spanish conquests brought fencing around the world, and that turned fencing into a sport. Sometime in the 18th century a French school of fencing, improved the sport into what we know now. Olympic Fencing, is a sport in which two athletes battle with a rapier style sword. In Olympic fencing there are three categories, Foil, Г©pГ©e and sabre, all of them having different weapons and target area. Foil requires that the opponent be hit in center of the body, with the tip of the sword, whereas with Г©pГ©e you can hit anywhere on the body, but still with only the tip. With sabre you must hit somewhere in the upper body of the opponent, with anywhere on the blade. Since you can hit with anywhere on the blade, rounds of sabre fencing are very ... • 8. ##ymbolism And Guilt In The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara... People face difficult and life altering challenges every day. Some of the bad times are more complex and affect more people than other types can. A challenge can start out as a family trying to help the less fortunate, but then take a turn for the worse. Even if it wasn t a specific person s fault, he or she still feels guilty. In The Poisonwood Bibleby Barbara Kingsolver, the author uses symbolism and allusions to prove the theme everyone has and deals with guiltdifferently. For starters, Barbara Kingsolver uses a lot of symbolism, especially rain. According to Thomas C. Foster s How to Read Literature Like a Professor, it is stated that rain can be restorative and cleansing (Foster 83). In more simpler terms, rain symbolizes rebirth and happiness. However in this story, the rain symbolizes hard times and guilt. Nelson told Adah it was our offenses that brought on this rainy season (Kingsolver 172). If rain in The Poisonwood Bible meant rebirth and cleansing, the theme of guilt would not be as pronounced. The Price Family is very religious and has a strong belief in God. Therefore, it only makes sense to have allusions throughout the story. Allusions bring the theme across because it helps the readers to see what happens when someone is guilty. For instance, if the girls do something they are not supposed to do the father, Nathan, would tell the girls you have The Verse (Kingsolver 59). The Verse is a punishment to make them feel guilty for something wrong they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rockefeller was known by so many things in his time and still today; a captain of industry who revolutionised the American economy with new business practices and keen management of what he controlled, a robber baron who lied and cheated his way to the top with back room dealings and taking advantage of the most disadvantaged of people. In his early life, Rockefeller grew up in Richmond, New York with his two brothers and two sisters about 20 years before the start of the Civil War as the child of Eliza Davison and William Avery Rockefeller. His father was con artist who spent most of John s life traveling selling his various elixirs and his mother was a devout Baptist who John said shaped his life and most of his religious views for the rest of his life. Towards the end of his life, Rockefeller had built up a beyond substantial fortune but, seeing as how he was now retired from the oil industry and had no desire to invest into a new business, he decided to follow Andrew Carnegies Gospel of Wealth by donating the bulk of his wealth to charity. John D. Rockefellerwas truly a man who was almost undefinable despite the simple black and white labels that most people and historians have pinned upon him, as we examine his life it can be determined that Rockefeller was neither an evil man nor a good one but someone who lived his life in the grey. Because the overall objective of financial managers is to maximize shareholder value, we also take a closer look at how the stock market operates, and we discuss the concept of market efficiency. 1 For example, some insurance companies allowed brokers to keep premiums for as much as a year before remitting them to the insurance companies. The brokers invested these premiums and earned interest on them, and this gave them an incentive to steer business to these companies rather than to insurance companies whose policies might be better for the brokers clients. 19843_05_c05_p141 172.qxd 12/7/05 9:43 AM Page 143 Chapter 5 Financial Markets and Institutions 143

Genetic transformation is used widely today, especially in agriculture where organisms are genetically altered to meet the food demands from corns color to squash size. When transferring genes you need a competent cell which is the cell that is going to express the foreign DNA(Weedman 111). There are three ways to transfer DNA, transformation where the competent cell takes DNA from the surrounding environment, conjugation where two bacteriajoin and transfer DNA, and then there is transduction where virus or vector carries DNA from a foreign organism to another (hammiverse.com...na). In our experiment we used transduction, using a vector. There are three ways to make the competent cell permeable. There is projectile bombardment when a genegun is used to coat the competent cell with DNA, there is electroporation when electric pulses are used to increase permeability and then there is heat shock when you rapidly change the temperature of the environment the competent cell is in from low to high temperatures making the permeability of the cell membrane more profound (Weedman 111). We used the heat shock method in our experiment to increase the permeability of E.coli. In the case of our experiment the competent cell is E.coli. One of the best examples would be from the story, Dorian gray by Oscar Wilde. This story showed a young Dorian living his innocent life, only to be surrounded and influenced by the corrupt society around him and would ultimately lead to his demise. It is not easy to define corruptionas a whole. But to narrow it down, corruption is mainly associated with bribery and it takes many forms. Corruption has been a part of human society since the earliest times. Fraud, embezzlement, theft, bribes are all great examples. Corruption has progressively increased and is now just about everywhere in our society, the evil nature of it will only lead to failure and collapse. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, The author Oscar Wilde demonstrates the corruption of youth by taking the initial innocence of Dorian and turning his values completely immoral under the control of Lord Henry, Dorians friend mainly through the use of symbolism. Even though he looks as youthful and innocent his portrait reveals his truly aging and corrupt soul, this and failure in Dorian not taking responsibility for any of his own actions is what ultimately drives him insane and leads to his death. Dorian s transition from an innocent character to a degraded and corrupted being can be shown by the author s use of showing his true color. It demonstrates the pureness of Dorian s ... The Cosmological Argument for the Existence of God The cosmological argument for the existence of god According to St. John 8:31 32 said, If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth shall set you free . This sentence is come from the bible, but I am not a christian, so I do not really understand what this means. I guess it was talking about if people believe in god, and trust his words, and in the end the will get the freedom. For many of christians, they believes in god, but many of the treatises of theologians and Christian philosophers can shed much light on the existence of God, the problem of evil and other objections raised by modern unbelievers. So, what I going to talk about is cosmological argumentfor the existence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, some people do not believed in god typed things. To explain this objection, and how the two forms of cosmological argument evade it, I ll use a simple, generic statement of the cosmological argument: (1) Everything that exists has a cause of its existence. (2) The universe exists. Therefore:(3) The universe has a cause of its existence. (4) If the universe has a cause of its existence, then that cause is God. Therefore:(5) God exists. This argument is subject to a simple objection, introduced by asking, Does God have a cause of his existence? If, on the one hand, God is thought to have a cause of his existence, then positing the existence of God in order to explain the existence of the universe doesn t get us anywhere. Without God there is one entity the existence of which we cannot explain, namely the universe; with God there is one entity the existence of which we cannot explain, namely God. Positing the existence of God, then, raises as many problems as it solves, and so the cosmological argument leaves us in no better position than it found us, with one entity the existence of which we cannot explain. If, on the other hand, God is thought not to have a cause of his existence, i.e. if God is thought to be an uncaused being, then this too raises difficulties for the simple cosmological argument. For if God were an uncaused being then his existence would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stay at Home Fathers Running Head: STAY AT HOME DADS Stay at Home Dads Name: Course: College: Tutor: Date: Abstract Traditionally families were defined by their faithfulness and conventional sex roles. The roles of men and women were structured according to the traditional family roles. It was believed that the father s role was to work in the office the whole day as the mother stays at home to attend to house hold chores. For many years traditional marriage was the cornerstone of almost all societies, an important institution for the passing on of values and taking care of children. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What involves staying at Home? The decision for one to become a stay at home dad may encompass a lot than what meets the eye. A father considering remaining at home may look at many factors including his earning power as compared to that of the spouse. Work attire, commuting costs, daycare costs and other working expenses. A slight repetitive flaw is rooted along with the idea of house husbands (McKay 4). Regardless of whether the decision of men to become primary care givers is by choice or by force, the fact is that these men take on the care giver role and perform it with a sense of commitment to the well being and health of their families. However, the sad thing is that as they go about their duties, they are met with quizzical looks and criticized for taking on the role of fathers who are responsible and take good care of their children and keep their families home running smoothly. This does not mean that all stay at home parents including mothers are ideal parents, it only suggests that men also can be effective as women in taking care of their families despite the way the society views what is normal and acceptable gender role performance. According to Frank, in his book, The Involved Father, he argues that fathers are just doing what mothers have been doing all along and that is domestic house work. • 25. The Drought Of The Western United States WP 4 The drought in the western United States is a nationwide concern that directly affects every person in California. It is every person s responsibility to use water sustainably and no college, including the University of Southern California, is an exception. Rather than lagging behind sustainable water usage, USC should be at the forefront of it. On the surface of USC s environmental sustainability campaign, it seems as if they are making sweeping changes; however directly under the first layer of facts there are holes in their plan. If USC made small changes to both their resident hall and landscaping water use, they could not only save money but also better USC s environmentally friendly status. Regardless of whether or not California is in a drought, USC should still strive to be a model for water sustainability because it would not only better the school s reputation of being a green university, but it would also save money. From a wider scope of things, water usage is important for more reasons than solely the drought in California. As the world s population nears 7.4 billion people, more people are born each day compared to how many pass away. Looking at the world s total volume of water, only 2.5% of it is drinkable fresh water. Furthermore, 70% of that freshwater is frozen. With an every increase population like the one we have today, it is likely that water will become the most important resource to mankind. The problem lies in the way the fresh water is ... Management Strategies Responsive management plans are limited due to a lack of effectual diagnosis methods. Trial studies have shown antibiotic treatments to be successful in supressing transmission of WBD, specifically with the use of Ampicillin and Tetracycline, although the latter being less efficient (Kline, 2011) and Paromomycin has been shown to arrest the disease completely (Sweet et al, 2014). Treatment facilities are experiencing multidrug resistant organisms at an all time high due to a lack of proper infection prevention protocol. Nosocomial infections are the most common complication that can arise during a hospital stay (Insert citation). A majority of developing countries are facing multidrug resistant organisms caused by the lack of infection prevention protocol and a large amount of pressure to provide health care in poor living and treatment conditions. Over use of antibiotic treatment is part of the reason large numbers of multidrug resistant organisms are appearing in the healthcare environment. Implementing more stringent infection prevention protocol, assessing health care facilities use of proper infection control, and critically analyzing use of antibiotics will aid in elimination of nosocomial infections and decrease the average hospital stay. On the other side, Conservatives think that the private sector will be able to support the economy and will be reinforced, in spite of the cutback in spending. • 36. The Importance Of A Well Prepared Environment Maria Montessori inadvertently created an alternative to traditional schooling. She did this by allowing her pupils the opportunity to learn through action rather than repetition. Montessori had five main principles: respect for the child, sensitive periods, the prepared environment, auto education, and the teacher s role. In this paper I will discuss the prepared environment thoroughly and how a well prepared environment can positively affect each student in the 3 6 classroom. I will, in reflection, discuss the negative outcomes that may arise from an ill prepared classroom. Sensitive periods are blocks of time in a child s life when the child is absorbed with one characteristic of the environment to the exclusion of all others (Lillard, 1972, p.33). These sensitive periods are: a need for order, the use of the hand and tongue, the development of walking, a fascination with minute and detailed objects, and a time of intense social interest (Lillard, 1972, p.33). The first, and most prevalent in a classroom, of the sensitive periods is the need for order which begins within the first year of life. The night previous to this battle, Constantine dreamt of a cross inscribed in hoc signo vinces, in this sign you will conquer. As trivial as this dream may seem, it ultimately signified the beginning of the rise of Christianity. With his victory, Emperor Constantine converted to Christianityand supported and encouraged it throughout the empire. In 313 CE, another milestone occurred as the emperors, both Constantine Iof the West and Licinius of the East, signed the Edict of Milan declaring that the Diocletianic Persecution would end, and Christianity would be tolerated in the Roman Empire. To guide Christians pursuing such a life, St. Benedict wrote Regula Benedicti, The Rule of Saint Benedict. Ideally, poverty, chastity, and obedience were the most sought after traits that one should follow. Saint Benedict instructed monks to participate daily in written prayers, devotionals, manual labor, and commanded a pledge of poverty, chastity, and obedience (Benedict). • 50. Restorative Justice Case Study Introduction Over the course of both my undergraduate and master s programs in Negotiation, Conflict Resolution, and Peacebuilding (NCRP), I have wanted to further study the concept of Restorative Justice. Though it has surfaced several times throughout my NCRP coursework, it has mostly been in the context of international conflict. Thus, I have often wondered how Restorative Justice might work in a more local context. That local context revealed itself in my current role as one of two fathers of a first grader in a school in Long Beach. Helena, our six year old daughter, attends a small private school with 160 students in grades K 8. The school community regards itself as being a large, caring, tight knit extended family, while the administration has been explicit in stating that the incidence of bullying on the campus is little to none. Our experience as a family in the nearly two years that we have been part of the community has been otherwise. Here are three bullying scenarios that we ve experienced or heard of occurring in our school community: In our first year, two male classmates called our daughter fat when she was in Kindergarten. Later that same year, a female classmate teased another dark skinned, African American girl in her class for having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 51. Providing Your Puppy Or Dog With An Indoor Kennel Crate Providing your puppy or dog with an indoor kennel crate can satisfy many dogs need for a den like enclosure. Besides being an effective housebreaking tool (because it takes advantage of the dog s natural reluctance to soil its sleeping place), it can also help to reduce separation anxiety, to prevent destructive behavior (such as chewing furniture), to keep a puppyaway from potentially dangerous household items (i.e., poisons, electrical wires, etc.), and to serve as a mobile indoor dog house which can be moved from room to room whenever necessary. A kennel crate also serves as a travel cabin for your dog when traveling by car or plane. Additionally, most hotels which accept dogs on their premises require them to be crated while in the room to prevent damage to hotel furniture and rugs. Furnishing Your Puppy s Crate: Toys and Treats: Place your puppy s favorite toys and dog treats at the far end opposite the door opening. These toys may include the Tuffy , Billy , Kong , Nylabone or a ball. Toys and balls should always be inedible and large enough to prevent their being swallowed. Any fragmented toys should be removed to prevent choking and internal obstruction. You may also place a sterilized marrow bone filled with cheese or dog treats in the crate. Bedding: Place a towel or blanket inside the crate to create a soft, comfortable bed for the puppy. If the puppy chews the towel, remove it to prevent the pup from swallowing or choking on the pieces. Although most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Reaction Paper On Spinoza The question of emotions and how they relate to rational thought is certainly not new. There are several authors who have already occupied themselves with the interplay of emotions and rationality in the decision making process (Lowenstein Lerner, 2003; Damasio, 1988 1994 just to name a few). In order to address this question, I decided to turn to one of the greatest thinkers of Western thought: Spinoza. Re reading the 4th part of his magnum opos Ethics, which carries the title Of HumanBondage or the strength of emotions , I could not but think of some central aspects of Kahneman Tversky s work on heuristics, bias, framing effects and prospect theory. Given the chronological gap between the works of Kahneman Tversky and Spinoza s Ethics I was impressed by the actuality inherent to Spinoza s thought. In this paper, I m going to argue that Spinoza s 4th part of Ethics anticipates some of the key findings of Kahneman Tversky and offers an interesting perspective on how to develop... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Ethics, which overall consists of five main parts and is inspired by the strict science of geometrics, he develops a system of thought which addresses the relationship of god and nature, body and mind and the conditions and possibilities of a good human life. Thereby, he opposes Descartes mind body dualism and develops his own line of thought contrasting Descartes dualism with his own concept of parallelism of body and mind. While rational thought as the attribute of human mind has been considered for a long time as being superior to emotions, Spinoza argued that both the mind and the body were parallel attributes (call them manifestations) of the very same substance (Damasio, 1988: 12). As much as his take on the role of emotions is determined by his other main concepts of parallelism and conatus, the 4th part of his Ethics is considered to be key to be able to understand the other parts of Ethics (Liessmann, 2003: ... • 53. The Negative Effects Of Pornography With the surge of wider spread accessibility to the internet on mobile phones and laptops comes a surge in the accessibility and viewing of pornography. Much research has been done to study how such an increase in pornography consumption is impacting the marriage relationship. Some findings have indicated that users incur serious negative effects, including a 25% higher divorce rate, are 101% more likely to be unfaithful to a spouse, and were 12% less likely to describe their marriageas very happy (Doran Price, 2014). Interestingly, various studies have also noted that the effects may be different for men than they are for women, stating that for women who viewed pornographyin ranges between 2 3 times a month and once a day or more, their marital quality was actually higher than those who never viewed pornography... (Perry, 2017). Considering such contradictory findings, it can be difficult for couples to know how pornography use plays into a healthy marriage, if it does at all. Pornography use, at the very least, has been shown to create conflict and stress between spouses if the non using partner is more religious or has negative views surrounding pornography. Is has also been linked with lower self esteem in women. The affects of this activity must be viewed not only through an individual lens, but through a couple s view. Taking such a view may reveal that regardless of the empirical outcomes of porn use, perceptions, even, can have a serious negative impact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
