Treatment - Goodnight
By Bushra
Summary
• Genre: A short film that is approx. 3-5 minutes long
• Duration: My project should take no more than 6 months to complete
• Target Audience: 15 – 35 Male/Female. Preferably a student, that enjoys
hanging out with their friends, hobbies such as watching movies at the
cinema or the home. They get a thrill out of watching scary movies with
their friends because it gives them something to talk about and creates a
motive for the night. They also enjoying watching things that would make
them think about the outcome and to be disillusioned at to what can
possible happen so they can say ‘I told you so’.
• Secondary research - By watching One minute such as tuck me in that
allow me to understand the theme of physiological horror e.g Tuck me in.
TV shows such as ‘Luther’ which also helped me in understanding, how
camera shots were used in confined and constricted areas, this helped me
with ideas in how I should potentially film my production.
• Primary research - made by myself included gathering information to
the conventions of a Horror movie. I went through the sub genres of horror
conventions, and what would potentially appeal to me more (comedy and
psychological horror). I analysed the locations of common areas horror
films are usually filmed in to follow the conventions such as dark parks.
Outline
• Couple (boy – Bryan and girl - Steph) on a late night date and are seen walking
outside, away from their local movie theatre. They are in mid conversation about how
the movie they just watched went. After a long night, the boy (Bryan) calls it a night
and kisses her on the forehead ‘goodnight’.
• From that moment when they both make their separate ways, going in opposite
directions, eyes begin to follow Steph as she makes her way home there are eyes
watching her the whole way home, she then calls her friend to pass time and they
begin to talk about the adventurous day Steph has just had. A couple minutes into
her conversation the phone is cut, and Steph is left with a hung phone frightened.
• At a point Steph has the feeling someone is following her along with the camera, so
she beings to fasten her pace, she reaches her front door and is reviled. There's
another shot of an eye looking through the key hole when she is immediately
approached by a dark hand covering her mouth and holding her whilst she is in a
struggle for him to let go. When her front door is opened there is a shout
‘SURPRISE’.
Visual elements
Lightning – used would be natural from the surroundings of the
character to preserve the fact it is suppose to be realistic. The natural
lighting when in the alley would not be minimised or maximized
because this would disregard the fact it is suppose to be seen as
genuine. This allows the audience to have a sense and understanding
of the position of the character at the time. It also relates well to the
conventions followed in psychological horror.
Camera Movement – Many shaky and canted angles. There would
be close ups to show emotion and a few long shots to exaggerate how
far she is for her destination (home)
Editing – Sharp cuts between Steph and the eyes lurking that watch
her, this is to increase the tension as she suspects someone/something
to be following her.
Setting – Dark alley/park, bus stop, cinema entrance
Actors – Kamle, Mo – (Steph : 5’5 Olive skinned, dark brown mid
length hair, 17, female, student ) (Bryan: 5’9 Dark skinned, 17, male,
student)
Props – A phone, keys
Costume – Casual clothing, preferably dark clothing
Audio Elements and Rationale
Soundtrack – Psycho score, No music is needed
Effects – Walking footsteps, getting louder. The sound of keys, being
clashed together, in result of panic, whilst trying to open the door.
The reason why I chose this idea was because it follows the conventions of
horror regarding the dark scenery and isolated scenes. My planning and
creative skills used in this idea are a compatible match in making horror
have a thrill and a plot twist at the end that was surely was expected. Also,
because the shots allow the film to follow holistically – the shot types get
closer to the character after each shot. For example the establishing shot
starts off with an extreme long shot, emerging into a long shot when the
characters begin their dialogue, this is so the audience are able to see the
background and understand the scene immediately without the characters
having to talk. After a close up of the person watching Steph to gain an
understanding of her emotions as she is aware she is now being followed,
it goes into a POV shot, so we are able to capture what she is feeling.
Other information
The requirements of resources we will use in our group would consist of
different locations, including: a bus stop, front door to a house, dark
park/alley, outside an alley. No extra costume or props are necessarily
needed, as it has a sense of reality therefore everything we use daily
would be used.
Some constraints we might encounter, would be when all the members
of my group are free to meet up to finally record the final production.
However, this would be overcome by planning and booking ahead of
time. There is no budget held and the cost should be free.
The ethical considerations to consider would be confidentiality, there
are certain things that need to be kept secret so other companies don’t
copy the idea and it has not ruined the story for the audience.

  • 5. Audio Elements and Rationale Soundtrack – Psycho score, No music is needed Effects – Walking footsteps, getting louder. The sound of keys, being clashed together, in result of panic, whilst trying to open the door. The reason why I chose this idea was because it follows the conventions of horror regarding the dark scenery and isolated scenes. My planning and creative skills used in this idea are a compatible match in making horror have a thrill and a plot twist at the end that was surely was expected. Also, because the shots allow the film to follow holistically – the shot types get closer to the character after each shot. For example the establishing shot starts off with an extreme long shot, emerging into a long shot when the characters begin their dialogue, this is so the audience are able to see the background and understand the scene immediately without the characters having to talk. After a close up of the person watching Steph to gain an understanding of her emotions as she is aware she is now being followed, it goes into a POV shot, so we are able to capture what she is feeling.
  • 6. Other information The requirements of resources we will use in our group would consist of different locations, including: a bus stop, front door to a house, dark park/alley, outside an alley. No extra costume or props are necessarily needed, as it has a sense of reality therefore everything we use daily would be used. Some constraints we might encounter, would be when all the members of my group are free to meet up to finally record the final production. However, this would be overcome by planning and booking ahead of time. There is no budget held and the cost should be free. The ethical considerations to consider would be confidentiality, there are certain things that need to be kept secret so other companies don’t copy the idea and it has not ruined the story for the audience.
