Background on the song
The album artwork for the singleWill.i.am (left) and Usher (right) performing“OMG” is a hip hop/R&B song by American recording artist Usher. OMG also features will.i.am who also produced and wrote the song, a member of pop group Black Eyed Peas who are also associated with the same genre as Usher. OMG\"
topped charts in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States and the video was directed by Anthony Mandler, who also shot videos for similar artists Drake, Rihanna and Jay-Z. Anthony Mandler said this about the concept and meaning behind the cinematography: \"
The concept was to create a world where we put Usher in a space where he does what I think he does better than anyone else in the world, which is perform at a level and magnitude of a superstar and take us, the viewer, whether audible or visually, on a journey, not a ride.
The Music Video
Our video is going to be performed in a nightclub called The Showroom which is based in Hartlepool, and based from previous experiences, we are aware that they have lights and the atmosphere needed for a video of this caliber. Sean McNicholas will be the young male dancing in our video as we are aware of his talent in dancing, which will give the effect of a stereotypical R&B video. He has his own choreography planned and practiced, and we are also going to include a main female who will follow his every move in an attempt to win him over.
Jason Derulo’s costume in Ridin’ SoloCostume – Smart Casual is the attire we are going to use in the video, as the video will be set in a nightclub, therefore the audience would expect the artist to be dressed relatively smart. Our idea of the smart casual look comes from various videos such as Jason Derulo’s “Ridin’ Solo” and Ne-Yo in “Beautiful Monster”. We have taken inspiration from these artists and videos because they are of the same genre and background. Along with the idea of smart casual, we also will be changing costumes for different scenes throughout the video. The females in the video will be the centre of the male gaze, so they will be wearing revealing clothing to attract the male audience.
Although we are doing an R&B genre, the dancing and choreography will be that of moves performed by Michael Jackson in the video for “Rock My World” which is smooth and demanding.
Michael Jackson’s “Rock My World”
Ne-Yo (Center) in Beautiful Monster
Below is an example of shots we are going to use in conjunction with the music and lyrics:
“Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh” will consist of both a change in shot and lighting effects, which will attract the audience and also give the video a professional vibe.
