◉ 16917* Teacher education institutions in India cater to creating future
teachers. However, 70% students failed to clear central teacher test paper 1
(Class 1-5) and 83% failed to clear Paper 2 (Class 6-8) – (Year 2022)

◉ National curriculum framework for Teacher education (NCFTE) last updated in
2009. NEP. 2020 declared to draft a revised NCFTE 2021.
◉ The Verma Commission (2012)* and the NCERT have criticized the curriculum
and programme structure, saying that it only provides teachers with basic skills
and assumes that they will be able to apply their learning to any context.
◉ NEP2020 adopted by the Indian government supports online teaching at every
level.
