This document provides an overview of the College Positive Volunteer program, which trains college students to promote college access and readiness to K-12 youth. The goals are for volunteers to understand how to have conversations about post-secondary options, know they are a resource not an expert, and utilize the toolkit. Barriers to college access for youth include a lack of social capital, college knowledge, academic preparation, and affordability. Benefits of college include higher lifetime earnings and employment, better health, and civic engagement. College access programs benefit youth, institutions, the state, and volunteers.

 A College Positive Volunteer is a college
student who is aware of how they impact the
college readiness and enthusiasm of the youth
they interact with as they volunteer in local
communities.

8. What is College Access?
 Encouraging and helping K-12 youth consider, plan for, and
attend postsecondary institutions after high school
 Efforts are often aimed at underrepresented students,
especially low-income and first-generation (or first in their
families to go to college) students. However, the goal is
college access for all.
 CPV is one of the many college access programs in Michigan
