20. introduction
Train to Busan is a unique and diverting zombie film. For
decades, movies about the undead have essentially built
on a foundation of fear of our fellowman but “Train to
Busan” takes that a step further by building on the idea
that, even in our darkest days, we need to look for each
other. The story begins when Seok-woo, a divorced fund
manager, is a workaholic and absentee father to his
young daughter, Su-an. For her birthday the next day, she
wishes for her father to take her to Busan to see her
mother. They board the KTX at Seoul Station. Others on
the same train are tough working-class husband Sang-
hwa and his pregnant wife Seong-kyeong, a high school
baseball team, rich-yet-egotistical COO Yon-suk, elderly
sisters In-gil and Jon-gil, and a homeless man who is
experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder.
21. As the train departs, a convulsing young woman boards
the train with a bite wound on her leg. The woman soon
becomes a zombie and attacks a train attendant, who
then also turns into a zombie. The infection quickly
spreads throughout the train. Baseball player Yong-guk, a
girl named Jin-hee who has a crush on him, and several
passengers manage to escape to another car. News
broadcasts report zombie outbreaks throughout the
country. The train stops at Daejeon, but the surviving
passengers find that the city has also been overrun, and
they hastily retreat back to the train, splitting up into
different train cars in the chaos. The conductor restarts the
train to head to Busan, where a successful quarantine
zone has reportedly been established.
22. A blocked track at East Daegu train station forces the survivors to stop
and search for another train. In the process, Seok-woo, Seong-kyeong,
Su-an, and the homeless man are separated from Yong-guk and Jin-hee.
Yon-suk escapes after pushing the train attendant to be killed by the
zombies, then does the same with Jin-hee. Heartbroken, Yong-guk stays
with Jin-hee and is soon bitten by her. The train conductor starts a
locomotive on another track but is also killed by zombies while trying to
save Yon-suk. The homeless man sacrifices himself to let Su-an and
Seong-kyeong escape with Seok-woo into the train the conductor had
activated. They encounter Yon-suk in the motorman's cab, on the verge
of turning into a zombie, having been bitten when the train conductor
saved him. Seok-woo fights him off, but is himself bitten. He puts Su-an
and Seong-kyeong inside the engine room and shares his last words
with his daughter before moving outside. As he zombifies, he thinks of
the first time he held his daughter in his arms and throws himself off the
locomotive with a smile.
23. Su-an and Seong-kyeong get off at Busan and
begin walking through a train tunnel. On the
other side of the tunnel are soldiers stationed to
defend the perimeter against zombies. Unable
to see the new arrivals clearly, the soldiers at
the checkpoint are instructed to shoot them.
However, the soldiers then hear singing, which
makes them realize the newcomers are human:
it is Su-an, tearfully singing the song that she
had wanted to perform for her father at the
beginning of the film, now singing it to honor his
sacrifice.
24. Body
The film “Train to Busan” is a action, suspense-thriller movie that
is being praised by many because of its unique story between a
father and his daughter. We agree with the context of this film
that a parent will do anything to secure their child lives to the
point that they can sacrifice anything for them. Just like the main
character in the film, Seok-woo sacrifice himself by letting the
zombie infect him and throwing himself off the train so that his
daughter can survive. The movie also shows that when it comes
to survival, the true color of a person is revealed. It’s either they
are only for themselves or desire to help others. In the film we
can see that yonsuk is a selfish man, he will do anything to save
himself just like pushing someone to save him from being
infected by a zombie.
25. Different emotions were also enclosed in this movie-
disappointment, sadness, bravery and love. First
disappointment because CEO implemented his pride and
selfish to others for his own sake. Second, sadness
because the Sanghwa has the desire to help others in the
way that he holds and fight the zombies so that others can
survive instead of letting the zombies thru, sanghwa
sacrifices himself by bring infected. Lastly affection, a
people will do things they never thought they capable of
doing when it comes in this kind of situation. In the scene,
were seok-woo, sangwa and yonguk fight against the
zombies to fetch their loved ones in the bathroom and of
course all people are scared of being infected but because
of love they are able to face the zombies without hesitation,
they are brave enough to fight their loved ones.
26. conclusion
Overall, the film was spectacular and knowledgeable. It
allows us to reflect on ourselves and it shows values and
lessons that we can apply in our daily life. It shows
forgiveness, beauty of nature, and love. When we forgive,
we are free from our anger and bitterness. Seok-woo from
being selfish to selfless, he learned to figure out how to
absolve his heart. Life is full of risks, fears, pain and
sacrifices. Out of all the obstacles that they have faced, it
all goes down to one thing-love. Life without love loses the
essence of it. Love shows us the realization of our abilities
as humans. It also makes us vulnerable.
27. One cannot simply survive without the help of other.
People depend on those around them. In this movie,
survival is the topmost goal. But in survival also comes
great sacrifices. Some become egocentric while others
were willingly prepared to offer their life for the safety of
someone else. What is done with sacrifice is done with
love. Sometimes people do things out of their league
because of this. Though there may be times we feel like
giving up, love encourages us. It fulfills the footprints that
our risks, fears, pain and sacrifices have left out. In the
end, love is what keeps us going.
