Abstract
From 2018 through 2021, Wildfires have emerged as one of the most destructive and deadly forces impacting energy resiliency around the globe. Dramatic new policy measures have been implemented in different jurisdictions with decidedly mixed results. Even less clear is whether these policy measures will truly ensure safe, reliable, and affordable energy------along with a modicum of reliability. This presentation will provide a detailed overview of the costs of wildfires within a resiliency framework, focusing upon California, Australia and other highly impacted geographic areas. Existing policy responses such as the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) program in California will be evaluated for efficacy. Evolving policies will also be reviewed----especially those that hold material potential to mitigate risk. Finally, for those areas with high wildfire risk, electricity market responses in the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector will be explored in detail. To what degree has wildfire risk expedited the shift from centralized utility electricity generation to distributed and/or third-party C&I electricity generation? Has this shift focused upon specific technologies (i.e. storage vs renewables vs fossil fuel generators). The presentation will assess
whether these market shifts are mitigating wildfire risks or simply creating greater complexity and variability.

Climate change is a better term than global warming because it describes changes beyond rising temperatures. If temperatures continue increasing, it will have disastrous consequences globally. The main cause is a rise in CO2 emissions from burning fossil fuels and other human activities. This is causing sea levels to rise and more extreme weather, threatening more people with issues like droughts and starvation. Both individuals and governments need to take action to reduce emissions and mitigate the effects through sustainable energy use, carbon limits, and adaptation measures like flood defenses.

It defines weather as short term conditions in a limited area, while climate describes average conditions over long periods of time in a wide area. Climate is influenced by various biotic and abiotic factors. Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide occur naturally but human activities like burning fossil fuels have increased their levels, causing global warming. Evidence of climate change includes melting glaciers and ice cores, tree ring data, and changes in plant and animal ranges and behaviors. Individual actions like conserving energy and reducing waste can help address climate change.

- 27. Most families live in apartments, using electrical heating and cooking gas and only a few use air conditioning.
- 28. Through the weeks there is a decrease in electricity use. This is odd, because January was one of the coldest months this Winter. Could it be that people have become more aware of the need to save energy?
- 29. The school measurements display some irregularities that may be explained by the fact that there has been some maintenance work being done at school.
- 30. MEETING WITH AN EXPERT On 16th of December 2010, we had a Meeting with an Expert in Energy Resources. We invited an Expert from Institute Jacques Dellors, who came to talk to us about “Energy Resources and Climatic Changes”. She informed us about the energy resources that our country exploits. The concern is about ecological consequences of fossil resources, namely in climatic changes.
