WHATSAPP ● WhatsApp is a messaging app used by people in over
180 countries. Initially, people originally used WhatsApp
to send text messages to their family and friends. Brian
Acton and Jan Koum founded WhatsApp in 2009 after
they left their job at Yahoo!.
● The beginning of the journey was not a smooth one, but
they paved their way through like many other successful
entrepreneurs. Koum succeeded in developing the iOS
application and incorporated the ‘WhatsApp inc.’ in
California on 24th February 2009.
● Soon after realising the demand for an instant messaging
application, WhatsApp 2.0 was launched in its beta
stage. People loved the idea of logging in with just a
phone number and sending messages to contacts using
the internet instead of operator SMS plans.
SKYPE ● Skype was founded by Estonian developers Zahti Heinla, Priit
Kasesalu and Jaan Tallinn, Danish developer Janus Friis and
Sweden’s Niklas Zennstrom. The foremost voice-over-IP
service was launched in August 2003.
● The original Skype application permitted voice calls from PC
to PC and little else. Skype’s original logo was purple. Skype’s
0.9 Beta created the platform to permit calls to landlines from
PC’s on a fee schedule. Through the evolution of various
Skype upgrades, the company continued to experiment with
different colours before finally settling on the current blue
background.
● In November 2012, Microsoft announced that Skype would
become the main Microsoft messaging service, eliminating its
proprietary Messenger service. This launched a new surge in
Skype usage. Skype has established itself as the premier video
voice messaging platform.
VIBER
With over 200 million users worldwide, many of whom are in Asia,
Israeli messaging app Viber has established itself as a name to watch in
the messaging space throughout the continent.
● Viber got 100,000 users in the first 24 hours after launch. By
the end of the third day, it reached the millions. With every
platform that the company adds, it sees strong growth.
Everything it does for one of its user groups reflects the
virality of other user groups.
● Viber Media was founded in Tel Aviv, Israel, in 2010 by
Marco and Magazinnik, who are friends from the Israel
Defense Forces where they were chief information
officers.Marco and Magazinnik are also co-founders of the
P2P media and file-sharing client iMesh. The company was
run from Israel, with much of its development outsourced to
Belarus in order to lower labor costs. It was registered in
Cyprus. Sani Maroli and Ofer Smocha soon joined the
company as well.
SEO
Search Engine
Optimization
SEO stands for “search engine optimization.” In simple
terms, it means the process of improving your site to
increase its visibility when people search for products
or services related to your business in Google, Bing,
and other search engines. The better visibility your
pages have in search results, the more likely you are to
garner attention and attract prospective and existing
customers to your business.
1) Google
2) Bing
3) Yahoo
4) Microsoft
HISTORY OF SEO It is believed that SEO was born in 1991. Around this time, the
world’s first website was launched, and one quickly turned into
many as websites crowded the internet. So, there was a huge
need for structure and accessibility, and the world’s first search
engines were created.
In 1993, Excite revolutionized how information was categorized,
and in 1994, Alta Vista, Yahoo, and others joined the scene.
However, in 1996, SEO really took off when Sergey Brin and
Larry Page began building what would become the biggest, most
recognized search engine to date- Google
GOOGLE ● Google, in full Google LLC formerly Google Inc. (1998–
2017), American search engine company, founded in 1998 by
Sergey Brin and Larry Page, that is a subsidiary of the holding
company Alphabet Inc.
● More than 70 percent of worldwide online search requests are
handled by Google, placing it at the heart of most Internet
users’ experience. Its headquarters are in Mountain View,
California.
● Google began as an online search firm, but it now offers more
than 50 Internet services and products, from e-mail and online
document creation to software for mobile phones and tablet
computers. In addition, its 2012 acquisition of Motorola
Mobility put it in the position to sell hardware in the form of
mobile phones. Google’s broad product portfolio and size
make it one of the top four influential companies in the high-
tech marketplace, along with Apple, IBM, and Microsoft.
YAHOO ● Yahoo!, in full Yahoo! Inc., global Internet services
provider based in Sunnyvale, California, and owned by
Verizon Communications since 2017. It was founded in
1994 by Jerry Yang and David Filo, graduate students at
Stanford University in California.
● Yahoo! provides users with online utilities, information,
and access to other Web sites. Yahoo!, which includes
features such as a search engine, an e-mail service, a
directory, and a news branch, began as a simple
collection of Yang and Filo’s favourite Web sites.Yahoo!
battled Google—a major competitor in the search engine
industry—for many years in an attempt to claim a larger
share of the market.
