Acupuncture is a procedure originating in ancient China involving the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body. It is based on traditional Chinese medicine theories of balancing qi or life energy along meridians. Potential benefits include pain relief, prevention and treatment of disease, and addressing both physical symptoms and their emotional causes. Common conditions treated with acupuncture include pain, digestive issues, weight control, and addiction. Research also suggests acupuncture may improve rates of pregnancy and live birth when used alongside in vitro fertilization. While acupuncture has been practiced in Iran for around 20 years, training and equipment still often comes from abroad.
The document discusses biorhythms and how the body's physical and mental states cycle throughout the day in regular patterns. It notes that biorhythms affect individuals from birth throughout life. The three main biorhythmic cycles are physical, emotional, and intellectual. Good sleep is important for regeneration and recovery, and different people have different natural sleep patterns as either "larks" or "owls". The biological clock controls daily cycles in organ function and energy levels throughout the day and night.
Homeopathy is a natural medical system developed in the late 18th century. It is based on the principle that "like cures like," meaning a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can cure similar symptoms in a sick person when given at a very low dose. Homeopathic remedies are highly diluted, sometimes to the point where no molecules of the original substance remain. Homeopathy can treat a wide range of conditions with minimal side effects through individualized diagnosis and treatment. However, it remains controversial due to skepticism about how extremely diluted substances could have any medical effect.

The Physiology of Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar)Peeyush Bhargava
This document summarizes a study that used PET/CT imaging to identify the skeletal muscles activated during sun salutation (Surya Namaskar). The study found the most intense uptake and activation in the shoulders and anterior abdominal muscles, specifically the deltoid, infraspinatus, triceps, serratus anterior, and rectus abdominis muscles bilaterally. Other muscles that showed increased uptake included the tibialis anterior. This indicates that sun salutation primarily exercises the shoulders and abdominal muscles. The study provides evidence that PET/CT imaging can effectively identify muscle recruitment during yoga exercises.

Breast cancer: Post menopausal endocrine therapyDr. Sumit KUMAR
Breast cancer in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) status is a common and complex condition that necessitates a multifaceted approach to management. HR+ breast cancer means that the cancer cells grow in response to hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. This subtype is prevalent among postmenopausal women and typically exhibits a more indolent course compared to other forms of breast cancer, which allows for a variety of treatment options.
Diagnosis and Staging
The diagnosis of HR+ breast cancer begins with clinical evaluation, imaging, and biopsy. Imaging modalities such as mammography, ultrasound, and MRI help in assessing the extent of the disease. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining of the biopsy sample confirm the diagnosis and hormone receptor status by identifying the presence of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) on the tumor cells.
Staging involves determining the size of the tumor (T), the involvement of regional lymph nodes (N), and the presence of distant metastasis (M). The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system is commonly used. Accurate staging is critical as it guides treatment decisions.
Treatment Options
Endocrine Therapy
Endocrine therapy is the cornerstone of treatment for HR+ breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The primary goal is to reduce the levels of estrogen or block its effects on cancer cells. Commonly used agents include:
Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs): Tamoxifen is a SERM that binds to estrogen receptors, blocking estrogen from stimulating breast cancer cells. It is effective but may have side effects such as increased risk of endometrial cancer and thromboembolic events.
Aromatase Inhibitors (AIs): These drugs, including anastrozole, letrozole, and exemestane, lower estrogen levels by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, which converts androgens to estrogen in peripheral tissues. AIs are generally preferred in postmenopausal women due to their efficacy and safety profile compared to tamoxifen.
Selective Estrogen Receptor Downregulators (SERDs): Fulvestrant is a SERD that degrades estrogen receptors and is used in cases where resistance to other endocrine therapies develops.
Combination Therapies
Combining endocrine therapy with other treatments enhances efficacy. Examples include:
Endocrine Therapy with CDK4/6 Inhibitors: Palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib are CDK4/6 inhibitors that, when combined with endocrine therapy, significantly improve progression-free survival in advanced HR+ breast cancer.
Endocrine Therapy with mTOR Inhibitors: Everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor, can be added to endocrine therapy for patients who have developed resistance to aromatase inhibitors.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is generally reserved for patients with high-risk features, such as large tumor size, high-grade histology, or extensive lymph node involvement. Regimens often include anthracyclines and taxanes.

PGx Analysis in VarSeq: A User’s PerspectiveGolden Helix
Since our release of the PGx capabilities in VarSeq, we’ve had a few months to gather some insights from various use cases. Some users approach PGx workflows by means of array genotyping or what seems to be a growing trend of adding the star allele calling to the existing NGS pipeline for whole genome data. Luckily, both approaches are supported with the VarSeq software platform. The genotyping method being used will also dictate what the scope of the tertiary analysis will be. For example, are your PGx reports a standalone pipeline or would your lab’s goal be to handle a dual-purpose workflow and report on PGx + Diagnostic findings.
The purpose of this webcast is to:
Discuss and demonstrate the approaches with array and NGS genotyping methods for star allele calling to prep for downstream analysis.
Following genotyping, explore alternative tertiary workflow concepts in VarSeq to handle PGx reporting.
Moreover, we will include insights users will need to consider when validating their PGx workflow for all possible star alleles and options you have for automating your PGx analysis for large number of samples. Please join us for a session dedicated to the application of star allele genotyping and subsequent PGx workflows in our VarSeq software.

1. What is organ clock:
Human body mechanism is a miracle and always it sticks to
nature. In Chinese medicine, diagnosis and the treatment are based
on the dynamic theory of the energy flow. This energy flow is
continuous in our body in a particular path which is termed as
‘meridian’ and the energy is called Qi (pronounced ‘Chi’). When this
flow of energy is blocked by any means, our 12 organs in our body
face deficiency /stagnation of Qi which result diseases and disorders.
‘Acupuncture therapy’ is nothing but removing this blockage by
stimulating definite points in the path of the meridian through
needling/warming up the points, thus influencing Qi for smooth flow
throughout the body.
2. A circadian rhythm is roughly 24 hour cycle in the physiological
processes of all living beings, including plants, animals, fungi and
cyanobacteria. In a strict sense, circadian rhythms are endogenously
generated, although they can be modulated by external cues such as
sunlight and temperature. The circadian rhythm is a cycle, often
referred to the "body clock", that tells our bodies when to sleep, rise,
eat--regulating many physiological processes. This internal
body clock is affected by environmental cues, like sunlight and
temperature.
3. In acupuncture philosophy the circadian rhythm is slightly
different. Here it is based on the flow of Qi, the vital energy and it is
specifically called Organ clock and not body clock.
Organ clock theory in Acupuncture therapy is, the Qi (vital
energy) circulates in the body enters into each of the 12 inner organs
and the flow remains at its peak for approx. 2 hours in same cyclic
order.
The energy enters the Lung (organ) meridian (also called Channel)
at 3:00 AM, when a day starts originally. Symptoms of particular
organ is shown at that particular time, it is an alarm to the patient
and good diagnosing point to an acupuncturist. As said above the Qi
is at its peak in Lung meridian for 2 hours till 5:00 AM. This is the
reason why an asthmatic patients suffers maximum in 3:00 to 5:00
AM.
An Acupuncturist takes the advantage of the organ clock theory
and treat the patient accordingly. The treatment is to balance the
vital energy flow in our body. So that excess/stagnated energy is
transferred by seduction of the specific points and lacking energy is
gain by tonification acupuncture point meant for that.
Of course this theory surprises at first sight, but in practical Bio-
rhythmic activity can be identified. A day always starts at 3:00 AM
which is the time for Lungs, the foremost organ. It is the practise of
sages and mongs at earlier times used to wake up at 3:00 AM, which
is defined as Brahmamuhuratha time probably this particular time is
good for breathing exercise, so that Lung will gain more energy from
universe and later it travels to other organ it cyclic order
continuously.
4. By diagnosing the patient’s symptoms which shows severe for
lung disorders at its organ clock time, a single point in Lung Channel
is stimulated at this time to cure the lung disorders. Apart from this
lung disorder patient will have disturbed sleep, like cough, sneezing
or nasal congestion at this time. So both the diagnosis and
treatment, the organ clock helps a lot.
Next to lung is large intestine time 5:00AM to 7:00 AM. Vital
energy in Large intestine channel is at its peak. During this 2 hours
period bowl movement is very comfortable if through habit our body
clock is tuned to this particular time to empty the bowl, because Qi is
at its ‘Yang’ state (Explained in following blog). Proper evacuation is
needed, if failed, particular acupuncture points are needled to take
care of the problem.
Next to Large Intestine is the Stomach time 7:00AM to 9:00
AM. As the energy flow is its peak, function of the stomach is at its
maximum level with all enzymes and segregations to digest the food
in full swing. Hence easy digestion and less indigestion related
problems can be anticipated. This is the right time to have our
breakfast. And stomach and its related functional tissues come to
slow down or to halt stage beyond 9:00 AM. If a patient has gastritis,
acidity, loss of appetite, headache etc due to indigestion problem,
then acupuncture therapist treat the condition with relevant
acupuncture point. And acupuncturist would prefer 7:00 AM to 9:00
AM for this treatment.
The flow of vital energy takes the path of Spleen from 9:00AM
to 11:00 AM, the time when the digested food is absorbed and this is
the time converted glucose from carbohydrate are taken to the
tissue cells for energy. Hence persons with diabetics feel very tired
and sleepy during this interval. This is one of the indication of
diabetic symptoms in later life.
5. From 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM the preference of Qi goes to Heart.
Heart patients experience odd feeling this period. Cardiac problems
and its symptoms indicates that the heart is unable to cope up with
its routine. Usually cardiac patient sweat a lot and feel suffocation.
Mental worries and an uncomfortable thoughts engulf.
From 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Small Intestine owns the energy flow.
Small Intestine is for digestion. Allergies, muscles, soft tissues, lips,
mouth and general tonification related disorders . Symptoms of
these problems may rise in this gap. If there is no enough food for
digestion at small intestine at this period the feeling weak is
inevitable due to lack of insufficient food energy.
Likewise from 3:00PM to 5:00PM is the time for Urinary
Bladder, Spinal problem and symptoms of sense organs, kidney and
urinary problems are indicative at this time.
From 5:00PM to 7:00PM is for Kidney, the mother of all internal
organs. Acupuncturists take advantage of this period to treat all
chronic problems in our body. Patients suffering from Alopecia have
good results when treated by stimulating kidney points at this time.
From 7:00PM to 9:00PM is for Pericardium. The Heart is
enclosed in a fibroserous sac termed Pericardium. In acupuncture
Pericardium is consider as a separate organ. The vital energy Qi is its
maximum at this period. Anxiety and Psychiatric problems of cardiac
patients are dealt with acupoints at this time.
From 9:00PM to 11:00PM is the time for Triple Warmer (TW).
In Chinese medicine it is ‘Sanjiao’. It has no equivalent in modern
western medicine, this concept is hence less familiar. Full function
and details of Triple warmer will be given in our future blogging.
Triple warmer is an imaginary organ, however, it is considered as one
of the twelve vital organ as per Chinese medicine. TW controls the
endocrine system, reproductive organs and temperature in our body.
6. Most of the infertility problems are treated with mid-day mid-night
theory.
From 11:00PM to 1:00AM is the time for Gall bladder. Beyond
its bile segregation function, Gall Bladder abnormality as per Chinese
medicine are indicative of indigestion, Insomnia and muscular pain.
The last period 1:00AM to 3:00PM in organ cycle, is for the
Liver. Which stores energy to our body. If any disturbance in
receiving the vital energy to Liver, its function is badly disturbed. As a
result very weak feel and burning of eyes are evidence. Patients are
advised to have good undisturbed sleep during this period
The Organ clock cycle starts again with Lung organ between
3:00AM to 5:00AM. Thus the cyclic flow takes 24hours to complete
for all 12 internal organ of the body.
