Social, Now? What Will (Finally) Change the World of Work?
Tim Walters: Despite great enthusiasm and some positive results, enterprise social tools and practices have failed to make a significant impact in terms of implementations, adoption, regular use, or business results. In this (abridged) keynote presentation from the Social Now conference in Amsterdam (April 2014), I argue that enterprise social will continue to falter as long as the focus is on 1) the tools and practices (the "build it and they will come" fallacy) or 2) the benefits for the employees (the "it's all about the people" fallacy). Rather, social business will flourish when it is used to address a fundamental shift in business conditions -- namely, the empowerment of consumers and the consequent need for all firms to master customer experience management (CEM).

While my previous talk in February focused on listening in social media (Part 1 & Part 2), this time I’ll be bringing folks on a journey through how social media strategies are created. Along the way, I’ll recommend the use of conversation filtering and analysis tools such as cotweet and JamiQ.

Social, Now? What Will (Finally) Change the World of Work?
Tim Walters: Despite great enthusiasm and some positive results, enterprise social tools and practices have failed to make a significant impact in terms of implementations, adoption, regular use, or business results. In this (abridged) keynote presentation from the Social Now conference in Amsterdam (April 2014), I argue that enterprise social will continue to falter as long as the focus is on 1) the tools and practices (the "build it and they will come" fallacy) or 2) the benefits for the employees (the "it's all about the people" fallacy). Rather, social business will flourish when it is used to address a fundamental shift in business conditions -- namely, the empowerment of consumers and the consequent need for all firms to master customer experience management (CEM).

Social Networking Websites

Overall social networking provides benefits of easy connections but also risks if not used carefully.
The story of Facebook.
Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook as an online social network for Harvard students called Thefacebook.com in 2004. It quickly spread to other universities and grew to hundreds of thousands of users. Zuckerberg hired employees and received funding to turn it into a company called Facebook. Over the next few years, Facebook added more features, saw rapid user growth into the tens and then hundreds of millions, and became a worldwide popular social media platform.
Facebook and Management strategies
Facebook was founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg and his Harvard classmates. It originated from a previous website called Facemash that Zuckerberg created in 2003 which allowed users to compare photos of Harvard students. In the early days, Facebook expanded from Harvard to other colleges and universities. Some of the major problems Mark Zuckerberg faced were criticism over stealing ideas, fundraising challenges, achieving critical mass of users, difficult decision making, and preventing privacy invasion. Over time, Facebook expanded its reach and used mergers and acquisitions to grow its business and services.

This study explores the implementation of Lean Management in the Sampling Section of RMG factories to enhance productivity. Drawing from a comprehensive literature review, theoretical framework, and action research methodology, the study identifies key areas for improvement and proposes solutions.
Through the DMAIC approach (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), the research identifies low productivity as the primary problem in the Sampling Section, with a PPH (Productivity per head) of only 4.0. Using Lean Management techniques such as 5S, Standardized work, PDCA/Kaizen, KANBAN, and Quick Changeover, the study addresses issues such as pre and post Quick Changeover (QCO) time, improper line balancing, and sudden plan changes.
The research employs regression analysis to test hypotheses, revealing a significant correlation between reducing QCO time and increasing productivity. With a regression equation of Y = -0.000501X + 6.72 and an R-squared value of 0.98, the study demonstrates a strong relationship between the independent variables (QCO downtime and improper line balancing downtime) and the dependent variable (productivity per head).
The findings suggest that by implementing Lean Management practices and addressing key productivity inhibitors, RMG factories can achieve substantial improvements in efficiency and profitability. The study provides valuable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers seeking to enhance productivity in the RMG industry and similar manufacturing sectors.
