Hearing disability, if managed at the right time, with the right technology
and the right medical assistance, there is no reason for an individual to suffer
the consequences of hearing disability. Today science has developed to such
an extent that almost every individual with hearing difficulty can be
helped with hearing technology. It may be via the help of hearing
aids, middle ear implants, cochlear implants, or brainstem

soon the patient takes a decision to seek help. As I
said, if an individual is made aware and if we are
able to intervene at the right time, hearing loss
need not be a disabling condition.
Which hearing aid is best for any
particular type of hearing loss
and lifestyle?
There is no such thing as the best hearing
aid. Every hearing aid will help to a certain
degree. However, there are technological
differences within hearing aids that offer
differing amounts of benefits. If a patient’s
lifestyle and hearing needs are limited, for
example, able to hear conversations at home a
basic hearing aid should suffice. On the contrary,
if the patient leads a semi-active lifestyle and steps
out of home on a regular basis to places like markets,
banks, etc. then a patient will require slightly advanced
hearing aids. However, if a patient has very demanding
listening needs owing to very active social interactions for example
- meetings and group discussions then patient will benefit the most from
the latest technology of hearing aids. Technology selection is based not just on
patients’ lifestyles but also on their type and severity of hearing loss and most
importantly their brain’s ability to filter and process different degrees of hearing

Unfortunately in India, insurance
companies do not cover the
cost of hearing aids.
What does the future of health technology
look like?
The future of hearing health technology will get
more personalised. The patient will become an active
participant in selection of the technology and will be
able to manage and manipulate various parameters of
their medical device independently. The patient and
doctor relationship will move towards partnership
wherein both of them will play an equal role and share
responsibilities to manage the health condition.
Please tell us if there is a useful solution
to the current COVID19 scenario as it
impacted a lot especially on disabled?
Solutions are evolving, today we can carry out basic
hearing tests via the help of the internet of things
(IoT), and we are also able to fine-tune patients’
hearing devices via internet. This has helped patients
because the physical visits to the clinic have been
reduced.
Do I want to use my smartphone to
manage my hearing aid?
It is not mandatory, but if used it can help patients
to manage their devices better, for example, they can
make adjustments to their hearing aids sound output,
noise filtering, connect via bluetooth to make and
receive calls and listen to music. They can also use the
mobile device to connect to clinics for fine-tuning of
their hearing aids over the internet via video calls.

anything like that in karate,” he jokes, “but yoga brought

His passion in yoga developed exponentially over time,
and he began teaching yoga to a small group of pupils
in 1994. This was only the beginning of his career as a
teacher. When he first began training pupils, he never
charged them any fees since he was always concerned
with providing the finest possible experience for them,
and all he asked in return was for them to leave the
session with a smile on their faces. As he grew in fame,
he was cast in a number of local and foreign films. In
fact, in Jackie Chan’s ‘KungFu Yoga,’ he was renowned
as the levitating yogi.

Everything fell into place in 2006, when Mr. Rahul
Mangal, another personal friend of his, offered them a
spare space on the bottom level of his condominium.

began as a typical yoga training facility quickly became
a sensation in the Jaipur region. They now have a global
network of more than 60,000 to 75,000 people with
whom they provide a variety of courses and coaching

Odisha is one of the richest states in India in terms
of minerals. The state’s major minerals are iron, coal,
bauxite, manganese, nickel, chromite, limestone,
dolomite, graphite, ornamental stones, coastal sand,

Water Reserves

of the river is 858 km. Hirakud Dam in Sambalpur,
Burla was built on the Mahanadi River. The Indravati
Dam was built in Jeypore.
The dams are used for electricity generation,
hydropower and irrigation. The river forms the
Cuttack delta, from which many tributaries flow,
such as Kathjodi, Kuakhia, Birupa. In addition to
Mahanadi, there are other rivers in the state, such
as Submarekha, Budhabalang, Baitarani, Brahmani,
Rushikulya, Bansadhara. The two largest lakes in the
state are Chilika and Anushpa. Both lakes are major
tourist attractions and offer quality fish breeds.
Forest
Southwest and northeast monsoon winds cause
heavy rainfall in the state. The state offers a wide
variety of forests due to its geographic location.
There are forests like evergreens, monsoons, tides,
and mountains in this state. These forests have many
tree and plant species that have made this state one of
the most important forest resources in the country.
Currently, about 32 percent of the state is forested.
The state forest features trees like Teak, sal, shisu,
khaira, etc. along with bamboo in the plant. About
eighty percent of the state’s forests are deciduous.
This type of forest offers many valuable tree species
for residential and commercial use. In addition, the
forest also offers an abundance of Kenduleves for the
bidi industry.
There are many nature reserves in different parts of
the state to protect wildlife. Similipal in Mayurbhanj,
Badrama in Sambalpur is famous for its tigers and
other animals. Chilika is known as a bird sanctuary.
